Genepro.

Stayed home with supportive hubby who didn't get any fatty food or beer. I made a healthy veggie casserole for us as well as a hash brown casserole for him. He made himself some gammon and I just ate a few small servings of casserole throughout the day as well as sugarfree chai tea with GENEPRO and almond milk. Sucks not participating in usual traditions, but avoiding what I KNOW will be a huge temptation is the best thing for me. Hope everyone had a happy Tgiving! Any one ordered through Bariatric Pal before?
Lexington1020 posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I am starting to buy my supplements and I was curious if anyone bought their stuff exclusively through Bariatric Pal store and if they have tried GENEPRO Medical Grade Unflavored 30g Protein Powder - 2nd Generation. I am kinda overwhelmed as to what to purchase- also if any women can offer insight to the soft chews (as far as good flavor) I was going to buy the three pack- but then put it back and just stuck with berry. Any information is welcome! TIA! -
So I'm 2 days post LB...yay! Done Thurs the 16th. Overall doing well. I'm on a full liquid diet and they would like 50-60 Gm of Protein. So prior to surgery I got GENEPRO and unjury. I used both prior and noticed maybe a little gassy feeling. Today I made Soup with the Genepro mixed in. No problems. Had some Jello, no problems. Then about 3 hrs after the soup and an hour after the jello I got terrible gas pains! Like my prior labor pains, it was sooo bad. Took gas x, pain meds and laid down with a heating pad. So was this from the protein or the jello? Did it come back from surgery? I had very little gas pains today until this episode. My belly is still all bloated but not as painful.

I just got GENEPRO unflavored Protein and have tried it in a few things. I do not taste it and after thorough stirring it dissolves. Only a half teaspoon adds 5 grams of protein. I ordered on Amazon. If your worried about flavor, add it to strongly flavored items and just add a little. Those extra grams will add up and help you feel better. Good luck.

I started adding Genepro to my yogurt (Oikos Triple Zero) and I love that you can't taste it at all!

This is when it really hits home. You are going through food withdrawals. I just had a revision from band to sleeve and I’m 14 days post and feeling the same thing, just not as intense as the first time around. Just don’t push it, please. Let the internal incision heal. I also just had my 2 week dr visit today and 6 more days until mushy to semi solids. You can do this. You’ll make it through and look back and be glad you did. Protein helps keep you full. I hate shakes and put unflavored GenePro in my broth. It’s a little scoop that has 30 grams and it really keeps you from feeling hungry. I hope this helps!

I changed to Syntrax unflavored protein powder. Very slight smell in the container, but almost imperceptible in oatmeal. I won’t be buying Genepro again after I finish what’s left.

Just got around to trying the new Genepro gen 3. Not for me! I tried to hide it in my some sugar-free oatmeal and it clumped so bad I tossed it after just taking a few bites. Terrible!

Been using genepro for years, you can't put it in either extreme cold or hot. For example, after I add some almond milk to my coffee, it mixes perfectly. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

September 2016 - Happy 2nd Chance Birthday to US

@@jdg I use genepro and add to my food. 30g a scoop and it doesn't change the consistency or taste. I tried isopure plain and it was horrible. I'm in the process of trying to get away from shakes and get my protein from food. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
When does the nauseousness stop?
DarleneCh replied to Jlkhollins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely could not do the protein drinks after surgery either. Genepro (you can buy on amazon) has been a lifesaver. Truly tasteless and it dissolves in hot tea well. It is expensive - but worth every penny to me. Good luck - I hope the nausea gets better soon. -
Scared out of my mind
missvee66 replied to haleymarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going in June 8th. These Protein shakes are milk based and the protein powders don't dissolve well in Water. What do I do? I've heard GENEPRO dissolves better in water and it's tasteless. HELP???? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Protein Supplements after Sleeve Surgery
kharenzhee replied to Kaycee1971's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I swear by GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. You can add it to anything. 30 grams of protein for 1 tablespoon. Is it the texture or the taste of your shakes that is making you nauseous? If the texture, I agree that you can try making them thinner with more Water, and shaking or blending them with ice. If flavor is an issue, I love to add some PB2 powdered Peanut Butter to my shakes. Great flavor enhancer and it adds more protein. There are also high protein gelatins and puddings sold on BariatricPal Store that are good, but again, you can achieve something similar by mixing some Genepro (or other unflavored protein powder) into a s-f pudding or other food. Seriously, how do you get all of your protein in?!

I add Genepro to my coffee every morning. I love that it virtually vanishes into the cup - no taste or odor. -
Unflavored (or preferably flavorless) protein powders
careya123 replied to farooforever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've tried GenePro, Syntrax, and Unjury. GenePro is my favorite, but it does seem too good to be true. Unjury is fine, but my heart races when I use it. Have no idea why. Syntrax is my #2 favorite: it dissolves quite well before you even start stirring it. Go with Syntrax. -
At that point in my journey, most of my meals consisted of instant mashed potatoes made with powdered milk, GENEPRO (unflavored Protein powder), a little melted cheese and cayenne pepper. It wasn't a ton of protein, but with the 2TBSP meals nothing was going to be anyway. Not sure if you've tried any RTD (Ready to Drink) shakes or not, but they've been my saving grace since well before surgery and even today at 7 months out and past my goal. I love the Premier Protein strawberry flavor with Pure Protein banana a runner-up. Premier has 30g of protein in 11oz and Pure has 35g in the same 11oz. As MsUjima mentioned, Isopure is another option. I tolerated them before surgery, but afterwards they were too sweet and I couldn't choke them down. I ended up giving away the extra case I'd ordered because I couldn't deal with it. They're 40g of protein but in a 20oz bottle. If you're struggling to drink Fluid, the shakes give you more protein per ounce than the Isopure, but both are worth a try as it sounds like you just need something that works. Beyond that, it may be worth a call to your bariatric team as well. You could potentially have some other issue going on that they would have better questions to ask and advice to give depending on the answers.

I drink most of my Protein early in the day. I put mocha Protein powder in my decaf coffee for a nice frappe like drink and I also drink a Protein shake mid morning....that helps me get in 60g of protein before lunch and any more is a bonus. I usually have greet yogurt later towards the evening and you can get 12g of protein out of chobani. I have also read about others getting protein powders that are more like crystal light.... Maybe you would tolerate something like that better. I bought that GENEPRO people were talking about and it really is tasteless... The scoops are tiny and you can add it to anything.

Where does everyone buy GENEPRO? I'm just looking for the best price. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I use GENEPRO. It has no taste for me in hot drinks or thicker drinks. It also mixed well in oatmeal.

I am now using GenePro. No flavor I can detect, so one very small scoop in V8 works great. I do not like the milky taste of Bariatric Advantage. Right now I am adding Hershey's Unsweetened COcoa Powder with barely any calories, and. truvia, to shakes. By far my favorite protest shake.

Ladies...it will get better I promise! You just have to give it time...be patient with your new tummy.. I had my gall bladder and the sleeve done at the same time on 12/17/14..I had atleast 4 breakdowns...thought it was the worst decision of my life...I am still struggling with the protein and liquids but I am determined to get it right...b12 for energy it has helped me tremendously. ..make sure you are chewing chewing chewing...I still can't enjoy lots of foods but the ones I can I eat the heck out of them...lol...as soon as you feel full stop eating even if it is not the amount intended...let your tummy be your guide...I just ordered genepro on amazon going to try that... I am taking this (pic below) to help with hair loss until I can get my proteins right...can't tolerate shakes...I just woke up one day and things were better... I hope you both feel better soon!!!

Sample a variety. Think about if RTD or powdered better fits into your lifestyle and pocketbook. I was using almond milk, but stopped since it was too low of a Protein payoff for the carbs it contains. I already had a nutra bullet because I drink Protein shakes pre-gym. That may not be an expense you want to make if you won't use it after the early post-op stages. Popular brands are Premier Protein, unjury, GENEPRO, Isopure and Syntrax nectar. However there are a zillion other brands out there. Make sure you speak to your nutritionist about what they recommend. Mine wanted me to make sure that the one I chose either had whey or soy isolates since that is the most concentrated form of protein. She said to make sure to not get concentrates. She also gave me guidelines as to nutrition levels per serving. I think it was at least 15 gms Proteins, and no more than 6 gms of sugar. I would have to double check my binder to be sure. I found I needed some unflavored protein as the constant sweet of the drinks was too much for me after a week. Being able to have vegetable broth or non chunky Soup with a scoop of unflavored protein was a welcome break. I also liked the Isopure teas because I needed something non milk based. Save all receipts. Most stores will accept unused portions if you decide you do not like them. Since people are sharing, here's my iced coffee/mock frap/mock coolata recipe. I buy a med Dunkin Donuts coffee with cream. Cool then pour into ice cube trays. 1 scoop of CVS chocolate whey ¼ - ½ cup of FAGE 0% plain greek yogurt depending on taste 4 - 6 ice cubes (a traditional ice cube is ~ 1 ounce) just enough Water to blend. Throw the whole thing in the nutra bullet. Based on 6 cubes and ½ cup of yogurt your totals are: 242 calories 14 carbs 4 fat 39 protein 111 sodium 7 sugar If you want to cut calories and carbs try ¼ cup and 4 cubes. I do this for pre-gym, drink half and drink the rest post workout for recovery. At 39 gms of protein I have now gotten in most of my protein before noon.
