I thought I would be eating eggs everyday....HA! I can barely get down one whole egg (scrambled) with cheese. This sucks, as I do NOT eat cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream or anything else of that texture. So breakfast is usually a protein shake,or watermelon.

I'm so happy, I just had to give an update. I am 5 weeks post op as of tomorrow and up until Saturday I was really starting to question whether or not this surgery was a good thing for me. I can now happily say it is. I woke up on Saturday feeling great! The pains, the nausea, the overall YUK feeling seemed to of vanished overnight. I was feeling so bad the week prior that I went in to see my doctor and they rushed me in for a CT scan. Turns out everything was good with the sleeve, I was taking longer to heal and that last stitch, the big one they talk about was giving me all the pain. Every time I moved, stretched, sat, stood or did anything it hurt like hell. It would literally stop me in my tracks. Turns out I also had a kidney infection so a round of antibiotics knocked that out. I kept reading peoples posts here about having patience and that everyone is different and most were feeling great by week 3. I was confused, I just seemed to be feeling worse as the weeks went on. Well I can say now, just listen to your own body! I have felt great these past 3 days, no pain, full of energy, able to get all my pills, potions and liquids in and I am starting to lose weight again. I was so happy I jumped on the scale this morning and I am down 53.5lbs from the start of my journey. I am also so happy to be off the Clear Liquids. i did that for 3 weeks pre surgery and for 4 weeks post surgery. i have completely indulged in creamy Soups, yogurt and Jello this week! Just remember if you hit a wall, slow down, listen to your own body and just be patient ...... this is a great thing we are all doing.

So...what's up with SALAD?
IndioGirl55 replied to morningoasis811's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Pam.. I am ok with salads too - I really don't have any no no's - sometime salami will stick a little - but I have had toast - grilled cheese - have rice most nites - only had pasta once in a great while and haven't in a long time - you get more rice for the calories than pasta.. I have pb'd on pudding or yogurt if eating too fast - for me that's what will bring on the pb being a little piggy and eating too fast.... -
There are plenty of threads listing menus, food ideas, etc, but I think you need to make a list of what you're eating and talk to your doctor. He might recommend a nutritionist to help you get on track. My doctor doesn't want us to chew our food to death or stick to soft foods, because at that point, you're interfering with the effectiveness of the band. If you can't eat the food your doctor advises, and it sounds like you can't, then he should be able to determine how much saline to remove. Sometimes, just a small amount is all it takes. Also, if you can have a fill under fluoroscopy, he can see how quickly - or not - the barium is going through. In my support group meetings, a couple of people said they had to mix the barium with cottage cheese (maybe yogurt) to get an accurate reading of their band flow. Sounds yucky, and it probably is, but if I were having trouble eating, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I am 9 months out and still need the help of miralax or colace weekly Constipation is definitely an issue for a lot of WLS patients. food ideas.....cold cuts, cheese sticks, eggs, Greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, avocado, ricotta cheese, hummus, edamame, spinach (make egg/spinach/cheese cups), portobello mushroom (portobello mushroom pizza or cordon bleu) (use the mushroom in place of the crust for the pizza and chicken for the cordon bleu) Perdue Shortcuts are AWESOME! They are already cooked chicken pieces and are great for a snack/lunch. I put them in a Fiber One Wrap or a low carb wrap 1/2 cup chicken, 1 ounce cheese and salsa and makes a great quesadilla. Now you are only 1 month out so you won't be able to eat all that, you could get two or three meals out of that, but so yummy!

I've just had bad, bad allergies. Sneezing a ton and sometimes feel a little pain in the port area but the doctor didn't seem too concerned about it. As far as pills go, try to get everything in liquid. I had to have a prescription rewritten even though I told them liquid before hand. You can take em by crushing them and then putting them in yogurt or SF pudding but it's such a pain. Tylenol Liquid Blast and I were good friends when I had a toothache.

My incisions are and have been hurting pretty bad, and even places where there are no incisions. It feels like my insides are ripping apart. I had a lot of the gas left over from surgery and it still is not all gone. I have also eaten yogurt and did not have a problem with the dairy...... I guess one of these days I will get to feeling half better. My follow up with the surgeon is tomorrow...

Im preop but making my way to the losers bench at a steady rate. So, reading everything here gave me ideas. Im headed to the bahamas for a week and wondered what to do with some foods in fridge since they would spoil. So I broke out the food processor. Using some low sodium beef broth and a partial jar of low fat beef gravy,I pureed and finely chopped some roast beef and peppered beef, stuck it in small portion freezer bags and froze it. We'll see how it holds up and it tasted really good to my preop taste buds..so if your bored with your pureed and mushies, this may be worth a try. Im sure other flavored meats would work as well with their coincided broths/liquids. Not so bland as baby foods. Just thought Id share for those who are sick of yogurt.

I had my consult and now my next step is to book my surgery date. I haveto do the pre-op diet for two weeks, like some of you I HATE cottage cheese. What yogurt should I stick to? I know I shouldn't have any with the fruit bottoms and it should be sugar/fat free. Is there any one type thats better then the others (not a big yogurt person).

Losing weight before sugery
JULESDARLN replied to ready4myboys's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has made me lose weight before surgery, my first visit was in January and he gave me 6mths to lose 60lbs. I have lost 40lbs so far and have one more month to go. He did not give me any drugs, but I do see a nutritionist and they put me on a 1200 cal diet, 60g of protein daily. I also cut out all sodas, I drink water only. Cut out fast food, sugar, pasta. I mostly eat chicken, fish, veggies, greek yogurt, and fruit. I also eat 5tbls of hemp seeds a day. they help keep me feeling full and have lots of health benifits. Good luck! -
I have one that's organic and good on all counts as fat as nutritional value! I just started eating solid food yesterday so I will wait awhile, but I just love Greek yogurt with granola! Things with the real food are going great! Just had some hummus with a few whole wheat crackers and it was heaven! So nice to chew again!!

Yes I too was very weak had my surgery on a Tuesday discharged on thur felt great went home woke up on Sunday extremely weak and shaky for close to a month I was told to eat a bit more often and to drink drink drink as much as possible I felt so awful I hung up on that woman lol I had to force myself it wasn't easy and made myself get up do small chores walk around house etc it sounds awful when u feel this way I know but just try a few mins at a time every little while and u will begin to feel better I put unflavored protein powder in my tea soup broth yogurt etc until I could eat more solid food too -
Did your nutritionist give you a list of foods for this stage? My guideline for mushies was that they should be the consistency of babyfood. Your stomach shouldn't have to do much churning for digestion, and mushies are just the next step in working your way back to softer then more solid foods. Mushies should be things like mashed potatos, yogurt, oatmeal, refried beans. I think the toast was too much too soon, heck scrambled eggs and toast is a regular breakfast, lol. I'm sure you didn't do any damage, but anytime you PB you need to have liquids for the next meal or two.....so take it easy today!

How are you getting to 1000/1200 cals a day?
SpideyMom replied to AlaskaGirl77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc doesn't limit me to 1/2 cup at each meal. He said if I am still hungry, eat a little more. I have to learn to listen to my body, which is quite challenging, but it is working out. Sometimes I eat a cup, sometimes (but rarely) I eat only 1/4 cup. My body knows what it needs. The other thing is, I often will add unflavored Protein powder to Soups, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. to boast my protein intake. You can get very good unflavored protein from unjury. One scoop adds 21 g. protein, 90 cal., and 0 grams of fat. And because you add it to food, it is staying in your upper stomach longer, as opposed to drinking it down, like Mamadot said. HTH! -

I can't keep anything down...
PenguinLovex8 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. I'm 3 weeks and 5 days post op. I've had a bumpy journey so far. 2 days after surgery I was doing great. Ready for discharge.. And right when I got up to sign the release I dislocated my kneecap, chipped it, and tore the connecting ligaments and tendons. So I got to stay in the hospital an additional 3 days. The first week or so at home went fine.. No vomiting, I was able to transition to full liquids with no problem.. Then I went for my 2 week check up. The surgeon said I looked great.. 25 pounds lighter, I felt awesome. As soon as I got home from the appointment everything changed. I started vomiting after every meal. But I could hold down milk and water.. So I was fine with it. I had a few bites of yogurt here and there.. And that was ok. All until yesterday. I can no longer eat or drink anything. Not even ice chips.. So what should I do? I haven't slept from the constant vomiting. I'm scared that I might of developed a stricture.. Even though I know it usually takes 4 weeks. Any advice? -
I'm still on mushies and 20 days post-op. I've been eating soup with a little more substance, added a cracker yesterday, cottage cheese, yogurt, fudgecycles, pudding, soft boiled egg smashed up with a little mayo & mustard is really good. I tried tuna salad today with mayo and mixed it really good. YUM I was told to gradually add things to my diet. By the end of 3 weeks the Dr. wants me to have tried bread and meat. I did "cheat" Friday. I had three french fries from McDonalds, but in my defense, I smashed them with a fork first and mixed them with ketchup! I keep telling myself this is the time to heal. If my head hunger gets too bad I go grab a SF popcycle and that can usually distract me. Good luck

Every day is different for me. I think everything I eat has at one time or another gotten stuck. Lunch seems to be the best time for me, mornings I'm tight, oatmeal after 9 am is usually ok, sometimes some yogurt. Lunch is fairly open with some restrictions, no bread. Cant tolorate it at all. Dinner is touch and go. Sometimes I eat whatever the family is eating, and sometimes it just ain't gonna happen and I bring out the soup. Good thing i love soup!

What are you eating post op?
auntjanny replied to LauraLei101's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5.5 weeks post op (every day matters!). I am back to work and can eat a little bit of anything although raw veggies like baby carrots is not good. I am still relying on a protein drink of some sort to get in easy protein but yogurt, eggs, and chicken are my mains. For breakfast I had 1 egg and half a piece of toast. Lunch and snack will be yogurt. I have had no slime incidents, but, came close with the carrots!! -
For the first week post, i was eating clear liquids; drinking rather. I was allowed to progress to semisolid foods beginning the 2nd week post op. At that time my eating consisted of refrained beans, low fat string cheese, yogurt, egg whites, sugar free pudding, 1% cottage cheese and various protein fortified desserts. I have been cleared to progress past semisolid foods at my discretion and will try fish today for dinner. Mahi mahi is one of my favorites!
-
Have you tried them?. I am on puréed foods and have started using this in my chicken salad instead of mayo. 25 calories, 1g fat, 2g carbs, 2g protein. I like the taste and I'm trying to squeeze in protein wherever I can.

It's hot and I'm nauseous and just can't eat!
Valentina replied to UpandAtom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When it's hot outside I make the following: I scoop Protein powder or one container of Greek yogurt I cup of frozen tropical fruit 10-12oz of calorie free liquid 4 ice cubes. Blend the jeepers out of it and enjoy a summertime smoothie--approx. 180cal and 15-24+gr of protein. Yummy and so cooling. Good luck and keep cool. Prayers going up. -
My soft spot was a runny nose and a sneeze...but that was when I was too tight. I had a slight unfeel and now I don't have the "trigger".... I have started eating Carb Conscious Supreme Protein Bars...they are DEE LISH US!!! They are big, so I eat 1/2 for breakfast with an Activia yogurt and 1/2 for lunch...they are 300 calories and 4g sugar--so rather than a snack--it's a meal replacement for me...If you like chocolate and carmel..this is the one for YOU!!!!
