  1. FAT if you don't...so they say! Well I have been stuck at this freakin' plateau for at least 2 months! So I decided to start exercising, because after all with diet and exercise you should loose weight. Right? Well I have been going to the park walking and jogging...yes me jogging, panting, sweating, dying, and jogging. I have been jumping on the scale and guess what. It ain't loosong no weight. To be honest I can't say inches either. So this is my thought process, if I sit around and not loose any weight, why work out. I think that I may be the sorriest excuse for a bandster. I am almost a year out and I have a grand total loss of 45 pounds. I must admit that I have not been following the bandster guidelines to the "T" but I am restricted enough that the only thing that I can get down that's bad is star buck frappacinos, milk shakes, and ice cream; which I don't indulgen in that often. What is the deal!!!!!!!! I am getting so discouraged! Well let me back up. I have been doing the walking, running, jogging thing for about 2 weeks. Out of two weeks I have exercised 9 days. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am getting desperate. I am ready for the weight loss phase to be over....I am ready to move on to "maintain". I am open to any suggestions! :cry

    Define "eating around the band"...

I think you can do it with anything - any foods that are easy for you to eat, even if they're healthy. My DH and I are doing Lite n Easy at the moment, which is a home delivered diet. I wouldnt have said I ate around the band but give me the more solid foods - including bread rolls, etc and my intake has dropped dramatically. I really didnt realise how often I was eating, and how many things like soup, yogurt, cookies, cheese, stuff that packs calories but goes down easily. I thought I'd reached the end of my weight loss journey, now that I'm within the healthy weight range, but no, suddenly this week since I've started I"m losing like you do in the first week of ANY diet. I really believe now that I can get down to 60 something kilos, a weight I've never ever been in my adult life. I've always said that bread was a good diet food for me - wholegrain, low GI bread because it fills me up SO much and whenever I have a period of eating sandwiches or rolls for lunch I lose weight. But I dont bother because who wants to make half a sandwich? Well its all made for me and the more difficult foods are working. So yeah, I guess I was indeed eating around my band.
  3. Hi! I had a lapband on 5/4/07 by Dr. Korus. I did well in the beginning and had lost 60 lbs. For the last six months, I do not get filled up and have been eating much more. I have gained 10 pounds. I have had 5 adjustments with no success-the last one being on 5/13. I had an endoscopy and he thought the band might have been up a little high; however, I was the first patient he ever did with an band. I had another adjustment with barium swallow and Dr. Korus felt that the band looked fine. Does anyone have this problem and any suggestions on what I should do? I am becoming very depressed about this and really want to succeed. I have about another 50 pounds to lose. Thanks. Judy
  4. Hello I am almost 3 years out....lost most of my 100-115 (depends on the month) pounds in the first year. Have been kind of stagnent in the WL department for about a year and half....first did not have insurance that covered fills and had to pay out of pocket...I have a fickle esophagas(sp) that if my band is the least bit tightened too much at once spasms and I have to have an almost immidiate unfill. Have about 4.1 in my 11 cc band right not...going for a fill tomorrow...found this sight and looks like a place I need to be....need to get my head in the game for several reasons....guess I am sick of beating myself up and ready to do this thing!! Primary reason is to get invitro...Doc says I need to be at 35 bmi to get best results and since I am only 20 pounds from that should be no sweat right???? Well you would think and that was June and here I am October and still gaining and loosing the same freakin :mad:7-10 pounds...So hopefully talking to others that feel my pain will get me to do what I need to do! Thanks for listening to my rant! bandsterintn!
  5. I am a 31 year old mother of 2 beautiful girls, I have a loving husband and some great friends...but I am totally overweight and I dont know if the lap band surgery will help. I have never been able to loose weight, no matter what diet or exercise I would do, I have hypothyroid disorder and I dont know if this will help. I cant even loose and gain back, the only time I have lost anything is when I was pregnant, both times I lost and then gained back after having my girls. I am praying for answers and help, if anyone has had similar problems and can tell me anything to help me with my decision to try the surgery I would so appreciate it. Thanks

    Just starting

I am just starting the process to have lapband surgery. I am a little nervous but excited at the same time. I have struggled with my weight for a long time. Finally, decided to do something about it. I have Tri-care insurance and they just started paying for the surgery. :smile2:
  7. Hello, I'm new to this forum and starting research into it. Can't excercise due to multiple disk bulges in spine, so this could be a huge help! I'm sick of my huge stomach. I also have a child w/ Aspergers so I need to be around for as long as possible. Don't need a lot of risk or down time in recovery. How many of you have had a lot of weight loss w/ this? Glad to find you all. :rolleyes2:

Look Out! It's the Food Police!

My mom does the same thing in a different way . Shortly after my surgery when i got on solids we went to eat at a burger place, I ordered a chili cheese kids burger w/ no bun and had 2 onion rings from my sisters plate. My mom says " SO you can eat that " I told her " I can eat what ever i want , the fact of the matter is THIS IS a better choice than what i would have made 3 months ago which would have been a regular burger and ALL of it and a WHOLE order of onion rings " I tell her ' YOU worry about what your eating and i'll worry about what im eating. I do find alot of it though is curiosity , my mom is surprised i can eat relatively "Normal" and still loose weight . which i can understand . But i still hate it . Hang in there and tell em to mind their own business LOL Love Mindy

    Could it be RESTRICTION??? Yay!!

That's great that you have such great restriction after a first fill. I know it's exciting! Be aware though that as you lose weight, you will lose fat and the band will get loose again. But that's why we got the band! You can always go back in and get more so you are back to where you need to be! Keep up the great work!
  10. I would say that under most circumstances ( having been through a lot of fertility problems myself) that its normally weight that affects the womans fertility more than a mans ( sorry ) The mere fact of trying can cause enough stress to make it difficult for you to concieve too. Dont concentrate on what your friends have or havent and concentrate on making both of you as healthy as possible. Being banded does mean that you have to 'care' about the band in order to make it a success. Do you qualify for banding ? to travel this journey together would probably lead to better chances of both the band working and the chances of conceiving increasing. Its very hard to help with such an emotional situation but please try explaining how you feel to your husband, it needs u both to sit down without arguing and really communicate and plan what you both need to do to increase your chances. I know a few people on the forum have experienced their partners becoming a little unsettled that if they lose the weight they will just suddenly leave, so what u are feeling seems quite common. If necessary maybe see a counsellor, or seek help from another support .. Theres nothing to stop you going with him to the support groups I wish you good luck
  11. ...when I work my butt off to lose weight by counting calories and exercising like a fiend I don't lose anything, but when I stop obsessing and just go with the flow it comes off? Stupid fat, you're not the boss of me!
  12. I have a question for you, its really too bad what happenned to you, i hope it never happens to me, especially wuth all the success you had. So you said you gained all that weight in 4 monts, you ate too much. Wad it because you became super hungry again or was it because your metabolism was slower, or was it because you had missed having big portions of food? What happenned to you is my biggest fear, and i know it happens a lot, this is why i am asking. Thank you and good luck!!!!! You will do great
  13. Thank you to both of you for posting!!! Tina... Especially thanks for posting! Most of the people that I saw here that were closer to my weight are mostly guys. I mean, I'm still new to the site, so not a whole lot of spelunking yet, but for the most part so far. Not that I can't get inspiration from a man's weight loss, far from it, but let's face it... men and women in all things experience and face things differently. It's taken all this time now, but I'm finally getting my head wrapped around what having this surgery means. I'm still trying to say goodbye to some foods. I know that post surgery that you can still have a lot (well... eventually) but I'm an all or nothing kind of girl. Once I get something in my mind as well that I'm done with it, I am done with it. Just ask my ex-boyfriends!!! LOL! Well... I will be posting and reading so again thank you to both of you!!!) Michele

    Retaining Water

I can only say for me this is pretty normal- I seem to have a range instead of a set weight, depending on the time of month and if I was eatting really salty foods ( like too many nuts)

    Status consensus and help

There's only a couple things I can think of. First off, your body may be getting used to the same amount of calories every day and adjusting your metabolism accordingly. Try upping your caloric intake for a day or two and then cut back down to regular. That usually kicks my weight loss in the rear big time. Another thing - doing weight training, it's possible you are gaining MUSCLE and not fat. Have you measured yourself at all? Are your clothes getting looser? It may be possible that your heart isn't getting enough of a workout with the cardio portion of your workout (making it harder to burn fat at the same time you are building that muscle). Try switching things up and doing a different kind of cardio (like stairs instead of run/walking). The body is a fascinating and sometimes very frustrating thing. It will do all it can to hold onto its fat stores just in case a famine comes along. It's a survival thing. You kind of have to surprise it and do something different and it can startle it and catch it off guard so the pounds can keep coming off. Good luck!

    Fills????

She told me yesterday, that without a fill and just newly banded I could eat anywhere from 1/4 to 1 cup, but they want me to be at a 1/4 cup of food with the fill and once I've met my goal I will maintain at 1 cup... She said since I was doing so well on the 1/2 that the fill would be very very small, they just want me down to 1/4 cup so I can get to my goal wt.. I was just wondering since I seem to be losing the wt on the 1/2 just fine why I still need the fill? I get getting down to 1/4 cup but I don't want to lose the wt to fast, because I don't want to get to sick and I don't want to gain it back...

    Suggestions

I am having my surgery at the end of may and I have to loose 12-15lbs before that, any suggestions or what anyone else ate to loose this weight? Thank you all for your help! :hungry:

The hardest thing in the beginning is dealing with the absolute control that band with enforce upon you. But dont fear it, the pain and discomfort of screwing up are wonderful teachers. The normal dieting issues that I felt like constant hunger and internal food willpower battles simply do not occur. If you are tight enough, you can eat when you are hungry and still lose weight. You may get colds, feel cold, and get tired from time to time, but these pass.

    Newbie!

Hello Forum! I'm so glad I've found this site. We have a support group here, but they meet once a month. I was recently banded on 9/19...so I'm through my first week and starting the second. I had no complications and was back to work on Monday. Since I started the process with a liquid diet 2 weeks before, I've lost 21lbs...only 4 last week, but I'm hoping to get a fill on Thursday for more weight loss. I slowly started adding soft foods this week...an egg, thin slices of ham, and tuna. Lots of soups mixed in along the way. Since I've started soft foods, I feel like I'm still eating too much even though it's literally just ounces that I'm having. We'll see what my Dr suggests at my visit. I look forward to chatting with everyone and reading about your weight loss journey. Tammy

    Getting Excited!

I went to my last appt with the surgeon today...I have lost enough weight to do the one week of pre op dieting. But I am going to start a couple of days early just to be sure my liver is good. After talking to the surgeon, everything became real...I am getting sooo excited now!!!
  22. Thanks for the input everyone. I now have one answer, from Blue Cross of CA (my current group insurer). No coverage for two years after banding, then coverage if you pass a physical and blood tests, and your weight has stabilized. Premium surcharge is 25%. Checking others, but suspect it's similar. I'll end up on COBRA until the two year mark then see if I can get a lower premium than that.
  23. Well hello, anyone and everyone who might be reading this I'm Nikki, 26 year old soon to be RN who is going full time to nursing school, already have Bachelor's in Biology, been married, getting divorced, moved out, work full time in an ER, so what better to do than get surgery? Not any surgery, as you all know, a life altering all consuming procedure that literally drains me of all my self control and sanity. I guess what I am trying to do with this post is see if there is anyone like me out there. Young, stressed, and wanting nothing more then to live their best life. So I ask you this, question #1, what made you want to get this done? For some of us, like me, it is to be healthy to decrease risks of diabetes or heart disease. Others, also like me, want to look and feel how they do on the inside to be expressed on the outside. I am one week away from my surgery, I have the joy of drinking protein shakes that taste like they want to be food but just can't get seem to get their sh*t together. Can I censor curse on here? Well I am going to! What makes it worse is you can't escape food, even in the comfort of your own home people are eating in your shows, commercials, your neighbors are cooking...I swear I'm not crazy, just theses shakes have me dying to eat! Alright, question # 2... even though some of us are so close to the finish line and are about to get the surgery or we are on lap 2 of the race and are post-op, does anyone just want to quit? In my head I feel like it is so much easier to just be overweight, obese, clog my arteries with delicious fried foods and just accept the fact that people will always look at me funny because I am nothing like the models. But then I remember, I am too stubborn and too determined to die young or live a life where I depend on someone to push me around because I can't waddle any more. I hope none of my crude, blunt, sarcastic demeanor offends anyone..I just hoping to find like-minded support. I live in a state where I have no family and limited friends, most if not all of them don't support my choice to get surgery to fix my weight issue...I guess this is question #3 who else has to deal with backlash, judgement, and the constant "well did you try cardio, how about this diet or this" in their lives? I look forward to hearing anyone's responses to these questions Kisses
  24. Hi everyone, I'm Tanya. I live in Northern California with my husband and my two daughters. I'm 35 years old and I have been overweight all of my life. I weighed 320lbs on 5/13 when I had my weight check with my local Kaiser doctor and this morning it was 304lbs. I have been wanting weight loss surgery for years but I didn't realized it was a covered benefit of my insurance until April of this year. I have lost weight in the past, a couple times I lost 80lbs but it always comes back. If I lose 80lbs, I still weigh 240lbs and still have 100lbs to lose! It's so overwhelming and I seem to hit a wall at 240 and can't get under it, so I give up. I attended orientation at Kaiser Richmond's Bariatric Surgery Program on 6/14 and have been on the pre-op plan since 6/15. So far the hardest for me has been no gum, no drinking with meals and no snacking! I have been really good and haven't cheated yet and the weight is falling off. I'm also walking 60 minutes a day and today I'm also going to try a bike ride, I hope I don't pop the tires! Our local program does either the sleeve or gastric bypass, they say the lap band is becoming obsolete and don't even do it anymore. I chose the sleeve because I liked the idea of the order of digestion staying the same and liked that it is a restrictive surgery and not a malabsorbsion surgery. So far I have gotten tons of encouragement just by reading all of the posts on the forums. I'm looking forward to getting to know more of you better and sharing my journey with you every step of the way! I have an appointment with my surgeon, Albert Im, on July 14. I hope to be down to the weight he recommends at my appointment so I can get a surgery date!

    One more Major 2019 Resolution!

I HATE SCALES!!! All those years that I felt so humiliated getting on the darn things. Weight Watchers, TOPS NUTRSYSTEM more than 2 or more times. Dr. Appointments. I HATE SCALES did I say that before? LOL But after my RNY it was exciting to weigh 1 time a week. Always on Monday morning. I found out that I can refuse to weigh when I go to the DR, so guess what it has kept me off the scales for 9 months at least. Until the last appointment, she asked me to weigh!! NOPE I told her I would next appointment. I know I am still maintaining between 125 & 130. I JUST HAVE PANIC ATTACKS ABOUT THOSE DARN SCALES!! I'm sorry I got off the wall about them!! I would just say weigh 1 time a week and at ur DR's
