  1. Well, it's been a while since I've been to the forums. Life happens! Just a little background. I have been a member for 6 years. I did my research on what I wanted for WLS and I chose LapBand. December 30,2011 I had a hectic start to my surgery with my doctor giving me morphine ( which I'm allergic to). Which landed me in the hospital for 2 days, when it was supposed to be an outpatient procedure. I was on 100% oxygen and they had issues getting my heartrate above 40. Fast forward a few months. I had quite a few fills and unfills, never finding that "sweet spot". I kept having issues with food staying stuck in my chest, even puree foods. I felt like a momma bird. There was no slim, it was just chewed up food that hadn't hit the pouch. I literally felt like a momma bird, ready to feed her chicks! I fell off the eat healthy wagon and just tried to manage getting anything down while we relocated jobs and purchased a home. Finally in Sepetember 2013 I couldn't take it anymore... only being able to eat cheat foods. I went to a new doctor in Dallas and said look I'm broken! Fix me! I can't eat the healthy solid foods! I'm living off of empty calories and this isn't what I wanted from Lap-Band! So he scheduled a EDG scope. I was so worried what he would find. what was wrong with my band?? When I woke up he told me that the 10cc band I had was positioned so far up on my esophagus that I wasn't creating a pouch at all. That the food was just sitting in my chest not going down well at all. He also said that since I had a partial plication with my lap-band that about 25% of my stomach is just scar tissue now. You can't exactly undo another surgons sutures with plications. He also said that i had beginning stages of erosion. (wonderful). So he emptied my 10 cc band completely, and it was like a relief. I was able to eat fruits and solid veggies again. I was able to hold down my Protein bars! From sepetember 28th to now, I've dropped 16lbs. We discussed my options and I chose to have the lap-band removed and go for gastric sleeve. I had my sleep study in October, my stress test Novemeber 15th and they submitted everything to the insurance on the 15th of November. On the 18th the doctors office said insurance called back and said I needed a psych eval and a nutritional appointment. I scrambled but managed to get them scheduled for the 19th and 20th of November. Here we are 5 days later and they called back with approval and surgery date! I go in December 4th for the revision. He is also going to remove the plication which is basically a big ball of scar tissue in my stomach. I'm a little nervous but more worried about being off work again. So far this is my WL journy. I've got from 260lbs to 215 lbs. But it's taken almost 2 years to get that far. I'm hoping to accomplish more this time around. I don't want to be "skinny" I want to be HEALTHY!
  2. I just had revision surgery from band to sleeve last week. I had the band 3 1/2 yrs and it slipped 2 years ago. I never knew if I was going to be able to eat or not from day to day. It got much worse about 2 months ago. I couldn't take it any longer. I'm at work today - still weak but functioning. I only took 4 days and the weekend. Good luck to you.

    Bye bye band

I had my band removed and revised to the sleeve but had to wait 6 weeks before the doctor would sleeve me. I was afraid I would gain weight although I had already done that with the band. I didn't gain any weight in fact it felt like I still had the band. I trust my surgeon. So if he said I need to wait then I needed to wait even if I didn't like it. I knew a lot of people that were had their band removed and sleeved same day. My surgeon told me my stomach needed time to heal.

    October Surgery Buddies

I am having surgery on Monday, the 24th; an RNY.... revision from a 16 year old VBG. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  5. Well, I had the procedure on Tuesday. Woke up in the ICU so they could monitor bleeding issues. Pain was pretty intense when I woke up. They had me stay an extra night in the hospital, but eventually moved me to a regular room once i pooped and had a positive upper GI xray. I'm back on a clear liquid diet for the next couple weeks, then it's into full liquids. Christmas is gonna be a pain in the ass. Since I wasn't resleeved, and can't find many people who have had SIPS as a revision to VSG, so I'll try to post my experience here. Day 2 post op... 6 incisions, painful shoulder gas, hurts to stand, get a little nauseous and tired when walking... but I'm doing it . 6'2" 354lbs going into surgery. 356 today, but I think that's normal. The drop should start in a day or two. I'm currently coughing and hicupping a lot, which hurts like hell. Also, I wasn't given pain meds (for reasons listed above). I'll post more as it happens.

    Sleeve to RNY

I also had a revision from sleeve(early 2017) to bypass (dec 2020) due to GERD and some weight regain. Happy to say that I no longer have GERD. I’m just over 10 weeks post op and I’ve lost 20kg. May be ‘slower’ then some but I’m so so happy with this progress. Slow and steady :)

    Panniculectomy with large waist??

I had a 150 pound loss with my Lap Band, but never got to goal. And now I'm contemplating revision to RNY. I did have a tummy tuck 2 years ago. My surgeon was wonderful. She submitted to my insurance for a panniculectomy, but she said what I needed was a fleur de lis tummy tuck. So insurance approved the panniculectomy, but my surgeon did the fleur de lis, hernia repair and diastasis recti repair, and she didn't charge me extra. She is amazing. ❤️ One other note that I will add is I have a friend who was never a bariatric patient, but she had 4 kids and needed a tummy tuck, and her ob/gyn did the tummy tuck. She did not have good results at all and now regrets the decision. I would highly recommend having a plastic surgeon do your surgery. I think it's just a matter of finding the right surgeon in these situations.
  9. I'm just curious - can I ask what: Revision... distillization of rny is?
  10. they told me that they revise on a case by case basis, but only if there is a problem with the band. ...now I don't want to "wish" for something to be wrong with my band, but . . .
  11. Greetings Everyone! Has anyone heard of a Kaiser patient getting a revision from Band to Sleeve? I got my band at Richmond (boo-hiss) and transferred my care to So SF. They're much much better, but I was pretty much told to make an appointment with a mortuary if I had a revision. I'd appreciate any news. Thanks
  12. Nope, I'm nothing special. The band interferes with equipment I wear at work - plain and simple. They know bypass works for everyone who gets it. End of story. I wanted the sleeve originally because of my concerns regarding having a foreign object in my body, but Richmond told me they don't do the surgery (a lie obviously). I really just need to hear from someone - anyone - out there who has had the revision surgery through norcal kaiser
  13. I went from about 230 to 180 in 6 months, do you think losing 50 pounds having a revision in that time period is possible? Or is weight loss really slower?
  14. It was definitely not as bad as I've read on here. I had a revision from band to bypass and hernia repair & scar tissue to clear out and I've hardly needed any meds

    Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

Teri, I understand the Dr sucking, for me it was after the surgery they treat you different. And after this last farce, he was there and just stared at me. Why would I just show up, and on my 1 year anniv yet? Good Greif give me a break, he keeps you waiting hours, you think I am going to take off work for nothing! Enough of that, it just pisses me off again. So what is the revision? Are you going to have it removed? Let me know, I think of you a lot and do hope that things start working your way. Take care Debie

Over 60 and having the sleeve

I am 100% for the sleeve. !! Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App Get that band out before it ruins your stomach and you can't get any kind of revision surgery. I had my band out and got the sleeve in the same surgery, 7 years ago. i am 63 now. It was the best decision of my life. The sleeve works so well. I can still only eat small portions. Just like the sleeve though, candy is my biggest threat. The sleeve does not stop sweet cravings and unfortunately, most of them go down just fine. I'm still fighting a 10 lb regain but at 7 years, I am thrilled that's all it is. It's harder to lose weight the older we get. It could easily be 20 or more, if I didn't watch things so closely.
  17. I had the same problem. My initial surgery I had 4 itchy rashes around my incisions. I thought that it was the steri-strip adhesive. So, this time when I had my port revision, he just used the glue and no strips and I still had the itchy rash! No fun!
  18. Yes...if I revise, it will be to VSG. My husband is afraid of this, but his only comfortable options are another band or nothing. I can't do malabsorption due to other issues. We're still trying to figure this out. My GI doctor didn't think the band was at fault, but will be interesting to hear what he has to say in two weeks.
  19. Am I the only one who has had post-surgery complications? I tried to find the post-surgery thread but it appears to have disappeared!!! I ended up being re-hospitalized five days after my surgery because I had paralytic ileus - essentially my intestines just stopped moving entirely and nothing - including gas - could go anywhere. It was extremely painful. I was in hospital for four days. Now I am back home but I am having trouble with the incision over my port - it came partially open when they took the staples out and while it is not open all the way to the port (i.e. it is partially healed) it is an ugly mess. I have to go to the clinic every day to have my bandages changed and for it to be irrigated and checked, and it's going to heal into a massive, massive scar. One of the surgeons from the team who treated me reassured me that they could "revise" the scar later and right now we have to focus on saving the port - which of course makes sense - but after having so many complications it's hard not to be discouraged. I am on antibiotics for the open incision. At least I have not have any trouble swallowing at all. I am at the pureed foods stage and have had yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, and pureed sphagetti sauce (with meat in it) no problem. My stomach is so happy to have real food in it again! For lunch today I'm going to try scrambled eggs and for supper mashed potatoes with some pureed apple pork. I'm eating under 1000 calories a day and not having any trouble sticking with those portions - I already have 3 ml in my band. From when I started the pre-surgery diet I am down 20 lbs, 2 pants sizes, and my BMI is down almost 4 points. So it's working. But no more complications, please!!!

    Anyone having surgery in May

My surgery is booked for May 6th with one of the fat doctors from the TV show here in the UK - but Im terrified of blood clots, bleeding, hernias adhesions, ruptures and god knows what else, am I doing the right thing? Does this surgery fix you short term but decrease your life expectancy because of lots of long term side effects from having your digestive system re built? I have had a gastric band, I lost 6 stone (14 pounds in a stone) anyway, I looked and felt great, went and lived in LA for fun, and was an american size zero, worked out in the gym every day, and felt fab, then my dad died, I came back here to the UK, and then the climate and food and misery got to me, no more gym - replaced it with cakes, anyway, then my band slipped, and in Jan this year had it removed, now, Im back where I swore I would never be.... what do I do, do I dare to go ahead with what they say is more risky revision surgery or do I just slip into my fat invisible world.....
  21. There are several MTF's that perform the VSG. My husband is active duty Air Force, and I had my band to sleeve revision at Eglin AFB. I know there are a couple of MTF's in OK and TX that are performing the VSG. You're best bet would be to call the general surgery clinic for the MTF's that are close to you, and find out what options are available. If you have Prime, you have to stay within 100 miles of your home base. If you have Tricare Standard, you could go see a civilian and pay the out of pocket expense scheduled by Tricare and the surgeon.

Over 60 and having the sleeve

I went to Mexico 7 years ago and got sleeved, revision from band. I was in the hospital 3 nights, but I didn't need to be. That's just the way they do things. I was out of my room most of the time, walking around outside. Feel free to ask me anything.

Over 60 and having the sleeve

Ginny C I am 63 and had a band(that had gone bad) to sleeve revision 3 weeks ago. It was hard on me for the first few days. I stayed overnight at the hospital and my husband drove me 150 miles home. I had a migrane for the first few days at home. I was wishing I had never had it done. But after a few days I felt fine and was very happy I had it done! I have lost 23 lbs in the 3 wks since my surgery. The best thing that happened to me is I found this forum. I am on a pureed diet til next week when i go on a soft diet for 2 weeks. I cant wait. I walk a mile on my treadmill every morning. I still get weak at times, but they are getting less and less. good luck with your surgery! Jeri

Surgery date March 16th, who's with me? ????

How did it go? I got revised from band to sleeve this morning and feeling great (all things considered lol). Not about to run any races quite yet That's great thundergrrl!!!!! And haha same here! I was expecting a lot of pain just preparing myself for what some were saying here and I guess I was a lucky one...just have some soreness but the hydromorphone (morphine?) is taking care of that ...I have a high tolerance for pain though too so that could be it. My mouth is dry still and sleep is always difficult in a hospital, but I'm also an extremely light sleeper. They just came in and took bloodwork, I'm guessing the doctor will be seeing me around 8am Hope everyone is doing good! Check in here if u can, I'd like to know yall made through fine
  25. Just had my revision from band to sleeve yesterday and I'm feeling great. So much less pain than when I had the band put in 5 years ago. Wishing a quick and easy recovery to all of you 3/16 folks!!
