VSG Surgery 3/2/2017- Clara Maas , Bellville, NJ Nervous!!!
Michelle920 replied to LuAnn Gazzana Thomas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi LuAnn! I'm in NJ also. I had gastric bypass in 2015, but I can give you a little advice. If you're going to be in the hospital more than one night, bring dry shampoo. I had to stay three nights and couldn't shower, so I wish I had mine! Bring Gas-x strips with you. I never had a problem drinking water before surgery but it was harder after, so I drank vitamin zero. Water just didn't appeal to me. And I haven't tried that brand of vitamins. Over the last year and a half I've tried a variety of multis, all chewable, bariatric geared, in the beginning. Now I'm able to take pills. I prefer the chewy kind. @Ronnys gal I am sending you wishes for strength, healing and a bright future ahead. You have had more on your plate than 80-90 year olds and I am sure your doctor feels this may be your last best hope. And I will be following the developments as they come. You are part ofourworld-wide Bariatric Pal family and we do worry about our own😦💦😪!

Any one who has NOT lost hair?
Teri Barowsky Hooper replied to roni 711's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a total hysterectomy in Aug 2012 and then the sleeve in Nov 2012. I should be losing hair from my first surgery but as of yet, there hasn't been any noticeable loss. I started taking my bariatric vitamins BEFORE my surgeries so I could get used to them. I also use Aveda's Invati serum daily on my scalp to help prevent hair loss. So far, so good. -
My surgeon required attendance to his seminar. It was rather informative, and there was a woman who spoke of her personal experience and it brought many people in the room to tears, myself included. I don't know of anyone who has had WLS so it was good to see. Attending seminars are usually free, and for me it was so helpful. The Bariatric office I am going thru has 2 surgeons, and I could see the differences in personality and it helped me choose the one who best suited my needs.

Help me my fellow March Bandsters!
SpecialK replied to jacole1820's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't have any magic, I wish I did for you but these are my ideas. 1. Get with your bariatric support group if your doctor/hospital offers one. Get with their nutritionist and keep in regular face to face contact for accountability and support. They want you to SUCCEED! and I'm sure will support you. 2. If you saw a psychologist or did a psych eval with someone before getting approved to be banded, consider going back to that person who has a relationship established and get the counseling going to see if they can help you get to the bottom of what has you off track. Again, they can give you impartial advice and will be a great cheerleader to help you. 3. If you aren't doing daily food logging for self accountability, please do use this right away. Sometimes just seeing what we are eating in writing is powerful. I use www.myfooddiary.com, I hear alot of people like www.sparkpeople.com and others have mentioned www.dailyplate.com but whatever works for you, consider this right away. 4. See if you can get a mentor or lapband buddy connection. See the lapbandtalk mentor/buddy thread where people are offering to do this. If you can find someone locally, find someone you can call up on the phone. -
I was not trying to be presumptuous or anything... I did not see anything in your post that indicated you had sought medical help.. I think your statement said you had been miserable for a month..You did not say I asked my Dr. about this or I have called him about this.. I don't think everyone has the same experience and I hope you truly get yours under control. If I had read your post before my surgery I would be feeling very scared... It's unfair to put that kind of fear into anyone who is already having a hard time deciding what to do. My advice to her would be go to seminars and discuss with other lapband patients and hopefully draw some conclusions that way.. She might need to speak to her surgeon or professionals in bariatrics before deciding...We are not Dr;s and ...opinions are like navels ... everyone has one

How do you decide?
balbuquerque replied to tess1964's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you are right let her speak to other lap band patients, that includes all patients that are willing to share their experiences. And by all means talk to the professionals in bariatrics that never have been patients and their main job is to sell the product. That's real talk. I'm sure that her original posts requesting feedback did not mean "please don't share if your experience is not rosey". This is not a debate, it is sharing, which would be deceitful and selfish of me not to enlighten someone with my knowledge of the procedure that I did not read about , I actually have it, hence makes me a patient also. Anyone going into any surgery will have a certain degree of fear and respect for the procedures. Anything less is not realistic. Making a decision with more information than not is always best. Which there's also another side which needs to be considered. Such as all of your eating habits will have to change even the not so bad ones like eating with a friend in a social setting. You have to feed yourself like you would feed a one year old for the duration of your band life. "Literally" the possibilities of you not being able to eat many foods are almost certain. Like dry vegetables, meats, and many many others. I did not even go there in my original response because I figured Anyone can steamed everything and use pressure pots for the rest of their lives , on the other hand any potential patient has the RIGHT to all pertinent information. -

My all in one Bariatric Choice chewable wafer supplement has Iron in it~ and it is like sucking on a candy- yum But just in case your tiredness isn't from low iron, the nurse at my clinic always says that if we start to feel that way to start charting: 1)how much Protein we are getting in 2)how many fluids 3)how often we are taking our Vitamins and are e taking enough? She said that often we will find that we aren't doing what we are supposed to be doing and that's why we get really low energy. Also~ my sister had extremely low Bs. It affected her very badly with low energy. She ended up getting a B shot every week. She said she felt so much better right after getting it too. If it continues def go to the dr and see what's up! I hope it passes quickly, I hate that feeling

Is there a Multivitamin and calcium citrate over the counter?
tdm7913 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I today ran out of my vitamin starter pack from my Dr. I plan on ordering a package plan around the 5th of July (waiting for payday). I am not sure why or how I waited so long to get more. 🙄 So my problem is I need to get something that I can take for a week or two until my bariatric vitamins come in. Does anyone know how I might can find something? Thank You, Tracy (RNY gastric bypass 5/23/22) -
@@snickysnack78 You are making very good progress! Think about losing 27lbs in 5 weeks, that is over 5lbs per week! As you get closer to your goal you won't see numbers like that. If I lose 10 per month now that is an exceptional month for me. I just saw my bariatric team yesterday, they don't set a goal. They want to ensure you are happy with your weight loss. Well, they were extremely happy with my progress and as I said, I lose on average about 10lbs per month. I may or may not get to my personal goal before my one year anniversary which is at the end of September. The big thing is that you follow the plan. If you do that and not stray off, the weight will come off. For some it happens a little slower but in the end everyone catches up over the long haul. I would not worry about your follow up, it should go well for you.

Day 7 - Hating Protein Shakes & Worried about Future Food..
lifeofblair replied to Jenkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second the bariatric foodie.com. I actually enjoy shakes now! On the liquid stage I drank a lot of milk because i couldn't drink anymore protein shakes I was getting sick from them. -
Tina, I think (as do many others) that the fills are the whole POINT of having a band versus a different surgery. I just went for a fill this morning and sure, it's a little more trouble than not having gone, but now I have another goose in the right direction of losing weight. A fill renews motivation AND OPPORTUNITY for weight loss. It creates a new reminder when too much food is being taken in, or it's being taken in too quickly. I need that reminder, as a chronic wolfer of food, and it's been fading as I lose weight and restriction lessens. So now I have a chance to renew the restriction and start again on the downward slide. I say YAY to that!! The hassle is largely internal, but it's less of a hassle than hating myself for having eaten too much at the last meal. The agonizing you see on the boards about having another fill or not are just people thinking out loud.

Hey! I lived in Indianapolis for 8 years :-) I am there every weekend... Bariatric Weight Loss Center of Excellence St.Vincent Carmel Hospital 13430 North Meridian, Suite 168 Carmel, IN 46032 Phone numbers: (317) 582-7088 Toll-free 1-877-831-1582 This might be a good place to start. If they won't do fills for patients that had the surgery else-where... then they certainly would know who to send you to. :-) Good luck to ya up in my Indy home!

When The Dream Ends...
COsleeveDude replied to bubblesbgood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As much as your situation sucks and I'm sorry for your troubles, I would look at some other options before taking the fatalistic approach. How about switching insurance plans during open enrollment? Mexico? Obamacare: Obamacare prohibits lifetime limits (A cap on the total lifetime benefits you may get from your insurance company) on most benefits in any health plan or insurance policy issued or renewed on or after September 23, 2010. In 2014, Obamacare prohibits new plans and existing group plans from imposing annual dollar limits (a cap on the benefits your insurance company will pay in a year) on the amount of coverage an individual may receive. http://thanksobamaca...index.php?id=11 Good luck. -
Why Chewable Vitamins Ok And Gummies Not?

So I'm two years out and loving life! My favorite eats...
Miss Mac replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My bariatric clinic gave me a business card that says, "This person has had surgery and is required by doctor's orders to restrict the quantity and types of food consumed. Please allow her/him to order a smaller portion or make a selection from your children's menu." I carry it with me everywhere I go and no one has balked about it. -
4 weeks out, will any multi Vitamin due ?
Amelie2016 replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would stay on your Dr. advise, or Bariatric Advantage multi chewables, since 4 weeks is still so short of a time. I think I'd go heavy on Vitamins for the rest of your life, right? Perhaps there are some more you can graduate too, after blood-work to see where you may be lacking. I'd request a blood work up. =) That's just me. -
4 weeks out, will any multi Vitamin due ?

My doctor recommended the Optisource Bariatric chewable. You take like 4 a day but they have everything that a WLS patient needs. -
4 weeks out, will any multi Vitamin due ?
bigtula replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have found that a lot of the "bariatric" products are overpriced and come in small amounts like a month at a time. I just get the feeling they are trying to cash out on us. Centrum has an orange flavor chewable that has daily amount of Iron needed which can save you from having to take iron individually. There are roughly 90 for $10 and since I'm taking them 2 times a day that's enough for 45 days of course. Not a bad deal. -
When The Dream Ends...
bubblesbgood replied to bubblesbgood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
ty for all of your responses i cant afford to self pay thats the problem...im already 7000 in debt thanks to insurance not letting me know i even had a lifetime maximum. this has been the worst journey i have ever been on and quite frankly there is no where else to turn yes i have an attorney we just started the lawsuit this could take upwards of how many years? in that time what do i do just get fatter as i go on and like i said all my comorbities are back so how long can i really last. just so sad...i have no choice but to give up the dream because it is so unrealistic to me now. the new law doesnt go into effect until 2014 and its only for "essential" surgeries and in case no one has noticed bariatric surgery isnt considered "essential" and never has been. just lost thats all. -
How do you work through a plateau?
rkwilliams1013 replied to rkwilliams1013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Elfie, You're right, I've had a rapid weight loss in a month, and this is probably my body's way of putting on the brakes. My bariatric coach says that you're going to plateau every 20-30lbs. Just trying to figure out the best way to work through it. I will try to up the calories just a little and increase my workout to see if that helps- Today my pouch is very grouchy, so hopefully tomorrow will be better!
