Lost as hell [emoji17][emoji19]
FindingCarrie replied to Finding_me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 3 weeks, I was eating cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce, well cooked veggies, eggs, cheese and beans. At 3.5 weeks I was also able to add fish and nuts. By 4 weeks, I was eating chicken. I am 4.5 weeks out now, and I no longer need protein shakes. I can meet my daily protein goals by eating all real food. It was the chicken that really gave me a protein boost to get off the shakes. Also, I was told not to worry about calories right now. My focus is 60g of protein, and at least 64oz of water. The protein is no problem for me anymore, but the water is like a full time job trying to get it all in every day! -
No blame here, so take this as it is given. Most of us have had the same issues, it takes some learning about what works for you. 1. You might not be able to eat the things you have chosen. Some can't do chicken, or beef or something fried. 2. Slow down, also try eating alone. With a recent fill I have found that if I talk I will have a problem of some sort with the meal. It's been over a year but this started with the last fill. 3. If I drink and eat I am done for. I seem to take in to much air and create a bubble in my chest very, very painful. 4. Small bites well chewed. 5. Don't drink at least an hour before eating, might make it a little better. 6. I am tighter in the morings so I do a Protein drink. Since the fill I am also tighter after 6, so dinner has to be by 5 or I can't get more than 2 bites down. Now this is BIG, at 4 months how are you clothes fitting? I wasn't loosing on the scale but my clothes had gotten to big. Sometimes as the body adjusts to the change the weight might not come off, but relocates moving from the tummy, legs, face or the back. Giving the smaller size pants and a better overall appearance. You aren't doing it wrong, listen to your body. You don't want to be uncomfortable so stop at 2 bites, wait an hour and have a Protein Drink or some yogurt. You may have been given info from the dietian about Snacks or 5 or 6 really small meals until you stomach is done healing.

Any Teachers Who Have Been/getting Sleeved!
kia replied to mommeof3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I teach fifth grade as well. I have a 20 minute break and I just try to snack during class. I generally will eat some turkey meat and string cheese and a yogurt. During my lunch break I will eat a few crackers and some chicken salad that I make with chicken breast. You will be fine. I am two months out as well but I really didn't have any energy problems. I taught summer school from 7:15 - 1:00 so it was a long day but I did well. I only took off a week. -

Hot Flashes and Nausea
Trayjay33 replied to leanora27801's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In viewing your question it seems more like Hypoglycemic episodes than dumping syndrome in my opinion. I don't know if you are going long periods between meals but at least try to drink a protein shake...some of it. Or eat a yogurt. Take a anti nausea medication before hand. I am 5 months post op and still deal with nausea. My Doctor prescribed Zofran sublingual so it just melts on my tongue. I also have Phenergan a stronger pill for nausea if I need it. I don't know if you are a diabetic but either way please confer with Doctor regarding your symptoms if you have not done so already. Best wishes. -
Thinking My Surgeon Has Lost His Mind!
AliveAgain replied to jiggyjen1982@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Instincts exist for a reason. I would say this doctor's "plan" is unorthodox compared to mine, and from what I've read, many others. For what it's worth, I was on Clear liquids first week, started incorporating more full liquids the second week. Third week, slowly bringing in the mushies (greek yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce). I wasn't even comfortable with solid foods until four weeks out, and even then it was another 1-2 weeks before I was more solid than mushy or liquid. As for lifting, my doctor said nothing over 25 pounds the first two weeks, then take it down by 5 pounds each week. He said it takes the stomach and the internal stiches about 6 weeks to FULLY heal. I would agree. As for soda, this is your chance to break any bad habits, so I would. I wasn't much of a soda drinker before surgery, but I did enjoy a good bubbly Water. Haven't touched the stuff since a week or so before surgery. Don't miss it at all! Well, I did have a tiny sip of an Orangina soda at dinner the other night (my husband loves to get it at our favorite Italian place). Granted, by the time I took a sip, it was a little flat. It really didn't do anything for me, didn't want more, just seemed like sweet empty calories. Take some time to browse these forums, you'll start to get an idea of what most doctors are saying and be able to form your own opinions. The important thing is to listen to your body, measure what you eat, pay attention to ingredients and how you prepare food, eat slowly, follow the no drinking before/after meal rule (10-20 min before, 30-45 after), take small bites, and the rest will happen naturally. The first two weeks are really about keeping your hydration up, taking your Vitamins and meds, and working up to the protein/calorie count that will help you best. -

I was allowed Greek yogurt/sf yogurt two days post-op. Every dr is different. It sounds like gas pain or referred pain to me. -
Fyi.. Unjury protein
Jackie Murphy replied to ShantelleElaine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try the unjury unflavored in orange juice...can't taste it or even detect it...that's the only way I get all my protein in....I agree it's nasty in yogurt, milk and flavored waters.... -
I like Premier Protein peaches and creme, some people thing,it tastes fakey but to me it tastes just like peach soda pop, I also like Muscle Milk Blueberry Greek yogurt flavor, lower I proein, a little high carb count but I like blueberry, caramel, premier protein, strawberry Muscle Milk and Svelte, french vanilla, it is soy based don't taste it though, cool and smooth. What I don't like is Wal-Mart Equate, yes it is supposed to be equivalent to PP but to me has that fakey evaporated milk undertaste. Others I really haven't tried that much.

I try to stay under 60g of carbs a day. So not really low carb but definitely not normal carb amount. If I do have carbs they come from a Protein bar that I grab as a quick Breakfast or my yogurt. My typical day: Breakfast: Protein shake or bar Snack: Greek Yogurt or cheese (Whether cheese stick or mini babybell light) Lunch: Some type of meat and cheese -- sometimes tuna salad others light salami Snack: part of Protein Bar or yogurt Dinner: Meat cooked however -- usually chicken or pork Snack: Metamucil Fiber pink lemonade Water mix and maybe later some cheese and a pickle Mind you, I start my day at 6 am and end around midnight or 1am On a typical day I eat about 45 g of carbs and 70 g of protein with around 700 calories

Conquering goals is hard to do!
Redoableme replied to Redoableme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for the diet suggestion! I used to eat 2 eggs every morning but since transplant they don't agree with me and my new meds. It seems everything reacts differently with my body now, so I'm trying things as if they're brand new now. Fresh veggies are hit and miss, but I'm good when they're cooked. Right now my breakfast is just a 1/2 cup of bran cereal with almond milk. Lunch is something like a bean and cheese burrito or grilled cheese on oat wheat bread, and dinner is usually a few oz of protein and 1/2 cup of veggies. Snacks are things like yogurt, low carb chips and salsa, unsalted sunflower seeds, pistachios, and tons of water. I'm still trying new things so that will change I'm sure. I will be 4 weeks postop tomorrow, I'm hungry too! I went to Walmart Grocery store today and finding protein rich foods without it becoming monotonous is a real task. I found some egg bites premade with cheese and Turkey sausage, I don't eat pork, but they had bacon as well. I found a large container of Oikos Yogurt which is 12 grams of protein per serving, egg whites, cream of wheat, oatmeal, Sargento cheese snacks, milk for protein drink mixes and few other items for my family. I miss having ftuit, vegetables, salads, fish because my body is rejecting my favorite protein. I'm also feeling tired of sweet liquids, not being able to drink plain old fashioned water without an enhancement to tolerate it, I want cold cereal, I want cashews and pistachios for a healthy protein boost. I miss some of my favorite healthy staples that would satiate my hunger, but Ariel aka my stomach is still healing and I have to respect it. I'm hungry too.

The Inevitable "I'm Not Losing Fast Enough" Thread
goodlife replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's why when the scale didn't move for two days in a row last week I picked it up and refuse to get on it! Ouro..that smoothie you're making sure does seem to have a bunch of calories in it! I'm using the Gladiator powder...180 calories for 2 scoops, 45g of Protein, I use about 1/4 cup of Water in it, about a cup of ice cubes, and one medium banana thrown in. 2 of those a day and I'm at 90 g of protein! My biggest thing is that it seems like I can really take in a lot. I was able to eat a whole container of Dannon greek yogurt with strawberry in it today. I can eat about a whole cup of thin creamed soup at a sitting...maybe 15 minutes or so. I know these are "slider" foods and pass through my sleeve pretty quickly but it's still worrisome. -
Have to start using protein powder a couple times a day by drinking or adding to yogurt. Does anyone have any favorites? That can be purchased at a store not on line.

I start every day with Protein hot cocoa, but you do have to watch the temp and warm it up slowly. I warm a cup of unsweetened almond milk in the microwave, add a scoop of chocolate Protein Powder and 2T unsweetened cocoa and a dash of salt (cuts the artificial sweetener flavor), and mix very well with a whisk. Sometimes I thin it a bit with some hot Water, or microwave it a few seconds longer to warm it up, but it will thicken a lot if you get it too hot - the protein "firms" up (like cooking an egg). You can actually use this tendency to cook to your advantage - there are a lot of recipes "out there" for protein "cake" or "muffins" or even "cookies" made with protein powder and often eggs, other liquids, sweetener, etc. cooked in a minute or two in the microwave. Some flavors of protein powder are really good added to plain greek yogurt - I like the nectar twisted cherry this way. Or, blend with almond milk and ice cubes to make a kind of soft serve ice cream. I've always been told the best protein is whey protein isolate - it's best digested by your body so you get the most benefit from it, but it's also the most expensive, so for cheaper brands you'll often find a blend of whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate.

I drink a shake every morning so I start the day with 20 gm of Protein, usually add fruit to the vanilla shakes 3 times a week. lunch is an average of 15-20 gms from meat with veggies. I have an afternoon snack of cheese or cottage cheese/yogurt mix (about 10 gm of protein) dinner I try to get another shake in unless I am with friends, then I try to get 15-20 gm from meat then veggies. So I average 60-70 gm of protein daily

I was always a breakfast skipper pre-op, and when I did eat breakfast it was rarely traditional breakfast foods. I usually have a Syntrax Cappuccino iced for breakfast now... but when I have solid food it is still odd stuff. I tend to reverse my lunch and breakfast that I take to work. I will eat the chicken fajitas around 8:00 and then grab the yogurt for lunch. I have eaten Tilapia, the inside of a shrimp taco, Zuchinni lasagna, etc... for breakfast. I think I eat what I had planned to be lunch because I am hungry at breakfast time now. (which undoubtedly has to do with not having the 2-3 cups of coffee I used to need for a morning boost!)

My surgery was a success and recovery is somewhat slow then I expected. I have some pain but not a lot matter fact the only time I feel real pain is when I cough or sneeze. I having a hard time in getting water in. But I am able to eat yogurt, jello and protein shake. I will just be glad when I can get these staples removed. I also realize some of my clothes are getting big. I almost forgot is anyone having some tenderness in their legs I just noticed it today? Call my insurance 24 hr nurse line and she said that I can just keep on taking the blood thinner and everything should be ok. I will probably call my doctor's office tomorrow to be on the safe side. I will be glad when my life gets back to some type of normalize.

Brunch of last night's coconut chicken with cilantro and even more lime squirted on for good measure.......yum. Usually I skip breakfast and get hungry mid-day. My husband is consistently hungry at 11:00 and has what Tolkein referred to as "Elevenses." By this time he's already had a big serving of full fat yogurt with a dollop of cherry preserves. After breakfast and elevenses he is looking for lunch. Then tea. Then dinner. Geesh, no wonder I was fat! Not him, though. Genetics, sigh.

crocodoxie replied to SippinAintEasy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh, I remember when I got to have some greek yogurt, and was like YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS... yeah on your cottage cheese. Congrats on a great post-op visit. -
I'm slowly getting over this saltine cracker craving. lol Now I'm craving yogurt. I'm hoping the doctor will call me before my 1 week check up on Wednesday and clear me to move onto my full liquids. These clear liquids are just going straight through and I'm not getting satisfied.

Help I need ideas PLEASE!
GwSoccermom replied to GwSoccermom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your replies. I am eating the right size portions, but also hungry between meals. And I do not have any ideas for weekly menu/meal planning. I can never figure out how to plan and we only shop once per week. I need some ideas for all meals during the week. I also snack once in the afternoon (fruit or yogurt) and I cant lose my after dinner sweet tooth and always want something for an evening desert. -
