  1. Ok so I am a little frustrated at the moment. My bypass was on 8/25. On 9/5 my nutritionistchanged my diet from clear liquids to full liquids. I have been on full liquids since and I am dying over here. I can't tolerate any of the protein shakes so she finally is allowing me to have 1% milk and yogurt but I still haven't had any pureed food. I see most of you on here talking about being on puree two weeks out and I'm just wondering what is going on with me. Is my DR just trying to torture me 😭 I'm craving eggs so bad and she says it will be atleast another month before Eggs are introduced.

    It's Pumkin season!!

Better check with your nutritionist. I'm one week out. I can have Greek yogurt but not puréed vegetables...just worth double checking

    Calories

Yes, I am 5 months out but as you say, at a lower BMI so perhaps this is more appropriate for those closer to goal than those just starting out? I don't know. Initially, I was eating 800 calories a day (and even that was hard) but as per the recommendation of my dietician I aimed for 1000 by 1 month out. It was hard! I needed protein shakes.I am 5 foot 3 so according to the above calculator I need to eat only 1037 calories to lose weight. I found I barely lost weight when I was even eating 1200 calories. What I am saying is everyone has different calorie needs so one size does not fit all! And this calculator scientifically shows that. My calorie needs are not the same as someone taller, younger, with a higher BMI, or someone who is a teacher and on their feet all day...We can calculate our individual needs. I have been trying to hit 1037 daily - not under or over. I was surprised that my optimal calorie level was so low, which is why I thought this would be interesting to share. As you rightly say, it has been HARD to get this level of calories in - I still have at least 1 protein shake a day to accomplish this. Many days I don't quite reach it but I try to reach the desired level and find I honestly lose more weight when I eat at this level rather than undereat!! If I see on MFP I've only eaten 800 calories at the end of the day, I eat some yogurt with a teaspoon of peanut butter for example or some chicken chunks etc. I try to make it to my recommended level and I have been having pretty good results with it. I have currently lost 48lbs which is 80% of my excess weight. I'm losing an average of 10lbs a month (some months less, some months more). I absolutely take my hat off to those starting at a higher BMI and with a longer journey. I know it is super hard and those people have my absolute respect !! This is a tool to inform, that's all. Science can help us. Calculate your PERSONAL needs, try to meet them, see how it goes! ADD: But yes if your doctor has given you a specific plan which goes against what the calculator says, absolutely follow the doctors plan first!! I was not given a specific plan; maybe there are others in the same boat
  4. My surgery was 09/18 and I was discharged 09/20. I am 5 days post op at this point and I am definitely not getting in the water and protein they want me to. I am not really hungry but know I need some protein but am tired of shakes. I am supposed to get in 60 ounces of protein shakes and 64 ounces of water a day before progressing to soft proteins like eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I tolerate the protein shakes ok, just not much at a time. My largest incision hurts when I sit down, stand up or walk, but it is improving a little each day. Coughing is awful however! I have showered and that was great. Lifting any amount of weight really hurts my incisions though. The orange Vitamin Water Zero has been great. I only took pain meds until day 3 post op, only been on Tylenol since. I don’t want the constipation that goes along with pain meds. This is not all unicorns and rainbows, but each day gets better. I am not regretting it, but it’s not the easy way out. I haven’t lost as much as I would have liked to since surgery, but I know I haven’t taken in hardly any protein, so today is the day I up that and get up and around more. I have been walking a bit, looking to increase that as well.
  5. How soon did everyone start eating solids or even soft foods. I am one week out and I'm suppose to still be doing liquids and my funnel diet which includes scrambled eggs and Greek yogurt and broths for another week. but the nurses keep telling me I can slowly start eating regular foods now. I'm scared and don't want to mess anything up.
  6. Atkins Lift protein drink . . . 20 g of protein per bottle, counts as water, not nearly as disgusting as protein shakes. I still like eggs, thank goodness. A lot of stuff I've tried I'm not crazy about--canned chicken pureed and made into a salad was disgusting to me. I'm okay with the ricotta bake, but can't eat a lot of it. Like yogurt or cottage cheese. Still early days here . . .

    Pureed food ideas

I just finished the puréed stage. I ate yogurt and puréed canned fruit, protein shakes, roasted butternut squash to make a soup, broths but make sure they are bone broth a lot more flavor, no sugar puddings and jello.
  8. I'm 4 weeks post op still on full liquid diet and I am completely rejecting the protein shakes. My dr just said to do Skim milk or Yogurt for now.
  9. Due to my BMI, my doc is requiring me to go on the pre-op diet for 4 weeks. Surgery date is oct 9th. At first, I was floored and thought I couldn't possibly do this. I have to replace two meals a day with a high quality protein shake, and one meal can be 3 oz of lean protein and a cup of non starchy vegetables. I can also have two snacks such as a boiled egg, or two TBS of greek yogurt with 1/2 cup of veggies. The first four days I wanted to just slap somebody. I have children, and had to fix them meals and even feed my nephew his food. It was hard touching it and not tasting it, but being 10 days into it, now I'm fine. We had some really ripe bananas and I made healthy banana bread for my son that I didn't have. I've fixed my husband and son dinner and it's been ok. Managing the hunger. Drinking broth when hunger does get bad and making sure to get my water in. I've lost 14 pounds in 10 days, so I feel like I can't complain. My only problem is such a high protein diet is hurting my already sensitive kidneys. I talk to the doc about this on Monday to see what I should do about it.
  10. Hi guys! I'm new here. IIIII NEEEED HELLLLP. I'm 4 days out of surgery and the head hunger is REAL. I've only been eating chicken broth, protein shakes watered down, popsicles, and propel. I have 9 days to go and I'm honestly not as strong as most of you lol. Can you guys help me come up with some creative full liquid ideas? This is what's already on my list: broth, sf gelatin, sf non carbonated beverages, sf popsicles, protein shakes, chewable multivitamins, skim or soy mixed with protein powder, fat free cream soups. And apparently even though it's on the list, I can't have yogurt yet. I guess I need fat free cream soup ideas? Where do you even find that?! I'm dying. Save me. Any help apprexiated<3

    September Sleevers

Day 7! I honestly don't know what foods I can and can't eat I hate jello and yogurt.
  12. I absolutely understand! I had to do the same - 2 weeks of liquids pre-op, then 2 weeks of liquid post-op. I was so sick of protein shakes! Have you tried thinning out some yogurt? Soups? I finally got some clear protein drinks (lemonade and kiwi & berry from the Bariatric Pal store) and they were a nice break from the sweet protein shakes. I'd also mix a little sugar-free Hershey's syrup with my fair life milk to make high-protein chocolate milk. Hang in there! You'll make it! Make sure you're staying hydrated. That will keep you full longer. On my 3rd week post-op, I was able to have pureed foods and could definitely tell a difference in my energy level (a lot more energy!). Refried beans and little cheese were my go-to food as well as unflavored protein powder mixed with mashed potatoes thinned out with Fairlife milk, with a little cheese. Those were really good and filling. Today (week 5), I begin soft foods. I had some sliced turkey breast and avocado for lunch and my pouch has been ok with it so far. Stick with it! You'll get there and it will be worth it!! HW 280 CW 254 SW 274 DOS 8/24/17
  13. I have been able to drink water and Powerade zero and manage to eat some yogurt but after a few days it's not easy but I think it gets better.

    Poop talk (sorry!)

How much sugar i in the yogurt...some have way too much sugar? Or change the brand.
  15. HI, I like the syntrax nectar (they sell it in the store on this site). I got the sampler pack and it was fun to try different tastes - I mix it with a complimentary flavor* of yogurt and it is good! I tried the mix in water and it was not great tho. *Ex: I mix the peach flavor with peach yogurt. Caribbean Cooler is good in any fruit flavor yogurt. Hope this helps.

    Help with this forum

Are you on a PPI? Also band to sleevers don't always have the same post-op experience as first time WLS sleevers. 25 pounds in a month is a lot of weight. I am not sure if only should ever go in front of a 25 pound one month loss... If you have a good surgeon and heal well, eating shouldn't be an issue. Also your ability to eat things depends on what you are eating. 4 ounces of yogurt is going to be easy to eat, 4 ounces of steak, probably not.

    What's In Your Lunch Box

My typical lunchbox has: Breakfast | chia pudding : 2 Tbsp chia seeds + 2 Tbsp PB2 (powdered peanut butter - I LOVE it) + 1 scoop unflavored protein powder (unjury) + 1/2 Tbsp honey + 1/2 C skim milk = (326 calories, 30g carbs, 12g fiber, 16g sugar 8g fat, 36g protein) - This is easily my largest meal of the day and it takes me at least half an hour to eat it while working at my desk. Lunch | random leftovers - today's was 1/3 Chipolte - Chorizo Burrito W/white Rice and Cheese (3.0 oz) = (203 calories, 14g carbs, 1g fiber, 0g sugar 10g fat, 14g protein) Afternoon Snack | 1/2 cup of either : 4% Cottage cheese -- Or -- 4% Greek yogurt Fruit | today's was an apple Snacks in my drawer: Tuna packs + whole wheat crackers - My colleague lets me keep a little mayo in his mini-fridge Blue Diamond Smokehouse almonds - I go NUTS over these! Luna Protein bars Unjury protein powder - chicken soup flavor - great for when I don't have the chia pudding and need some extra protein Turkey jerky - a little bite helps keep me from trying to eat a whole snack when I know I don't need one

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

I had an issue with chewing 4 big chalky calcium tabs a day and went in search for solutions without it being a capsule either. I found this and I really enjoy it. Its the consistency of the drinkable yogurt. Tastes like a slightly tart blueberry yogurt shooter. Just 2 TBSP every morning

    How much can you eat?

I'm 6 weeks post op. I can eat a 5oz container of Greek yogurt. Oatmeal, about 3 ounces. Meat, about 2.5 ounces. At first, it wasn't this much. But it depends on the type of food. Nutrient, protein dense vs slider foods seem to have different results. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    RNY SURGERY

I'm 2 weeks out from Lapband revision with Gastric bypass surgery and I also do well with the GenePro. Because it's 30gm protein per serving, I take it with a cup of crystal light in the morning & early evening. With approved low fat Greek yogurt, it meets my protein goal. Can't stand the taste of a few others that seemed tolerable prior to surgery. I found the GenePro at GNC. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Meeting Goals

I'm having similar problems--I've just eaten 5 ounces of the ricotta bake and I really had to force myself--I feel stuffed. And I'm still short of the protein goals for the day--had eggs and cheese for breakfast and yogurt for lunch. About the only thing I can see at this point is to drink the protein water (but I only have one bottle left, alas). That at least helps with the water goals as well as protein without filling me up. (I drink Atkins Lift; 20 grams of protein per bottle). I'm sure this is temporary and eventually I'll be able to eat enough. But it's tough now.
  23. Not long to wait now. Puree is better but even on liquids mix it up a bit. I bought some optifast desserts and made them thinner different taste you could have yogurt custard lump free soup I used bought pumpkin soup 1 spoonful of the thick soup watered down with stock like they did in hospital. It's really about being a bit creative Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Taste

My taste buds changed I was sleeved on 9/15 and can't stand the taste or smell of protein shakes. I've been trying all types to get my protein in. Instead of doing 3 shakes I'll do a isopure 40grams, Greek yogurt 15grams, and 6 grams with milk. I'm still on liquid so can't wait to change phase so I can get my protein.
