  1. I eat full fat cottage cheese, mayo, ricotta, etc. I stick to greek yogurt. The low fat versions typically have more carbs and don't taste good. Based on the small amount I eat it has never been a concern.

    Too much too soon?

Many consider yogurt basically a slider food. At first, I was measuring 3oz, but now that I'm six weeks out, I eat the 5.3oz container because it's convenient and I got bored with the same flavor. When it comes to other stuff like meat, I can barely eat 3oz. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I agree with SGIRL35. I'm sure they're being cautious to allow healing inside as well. My Dr. is conservative as well. I had one week clear liquids, but 2 weeks full liquids. I will be going to Pureed at week 3. So being on the liquids is getting old, I understand that - but what has encouraged me is remembering I DO NOT WANT TO RISK COMPLICATIONS! I read a horror story about someone that had leaks and multiple complications. But I get what you're saying, you just have the desire. I'm sticking to the list of approved stages & liquids/foods on those stages. As far as your protein, what has worked for me is GenePro (one Tablespoon in Crystal light is how I take it) unflavored, disolves great. 30 gm per serving. So I do that twice a day, and with the yogurt it gives you the 70gm goal. My Dr. recommended 60 - 70gm goal. I found the GenePro at GNC. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Too much too soon?

I wonder the same thing. I eat a 5.1 ounce cup of Greek yogurt every day for lunch, and haven't had any problems. I have my follow up appt on Thursday, and this is on my list of questions to ask.
  5. I am 1 week out from my VSG. Today is the first day that I've been able to eat anything that isn't a clear liquid. Per my post-op diet instructions, week 2 I can have yogurt without fruit chunks, creamy soups without chunks, full liquid and etc. I thought it would be a good idea to start with a low calorie, high protein greek yogurt. After not eating for all this time it was amazing!! My concern is that I was able to eat the whole single serving cup. I ate slow and took small bites as instructed. I don't feel nauseated or overly full. I'm satisfied but I just didn't think I would be able to tolerate so much at once. I know it's very easy to over do it and I've heard that sometimes you don't know it's too much until it's too late. Thoughts? Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. I'm not a fan of the low fat versions. Did anyone eat the full fat version of these? It would seem that as little as we can eat, one should still lose weight. Anyone eating the 4% cottage cheese and 2% yogurt?

    Eating is a chore

I'm on day 10 of my post-op liquid diet and "eating" has become a chore. It isn't that I crave anything...I'm just so sick of broth, yogurt, shake, jello....repeat. I don't enjoy any of it anymore...I tolerate it..barely. I'd rather not eat, but I know that's not an option. I am not allowed even thin purees for 11 more days. Ugh!
  8. Hi everyone! I had my surgery 9/15, and feel GREAT! I am down 29 lbs since I started my pre-op diet on 9/1. I am on Day 2 of Phase 2, so I've been eating non-fat cottage cheese, non-fat greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, protein shakes and strained low fat "cream of" soups. No complaints other than some constipation that I hope to resolve sooner rather than later. I hope you all have a quick and speedy recovery
  9. I was sleeved on the 20th. I'm having a hard time getting in all my water. The liquid protein I am doing pkay with, it takes time but I'm getting it down. The 2oz of yogurt or cottage cheese they have me eating, those I cant always get in. It's just too much. The vitamins alone fill me up. Sent from my SM-N910P using BariatricPal mobile app

Meal1- 4 oz yogurt Meal2- 8 oz protein shake Meal 3- 1/2 cup blended, creamy soup Meal 4- 8 oz protein shake Meal 5-1/2 cup blended, creamy soup Meal 6- 8 oz protein shake Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I’m now 6 days post op and since my last post, I’m still doing fine though I’m nervous about the number of protein shakes I need to have beginning tomorrow. I’m only having 1 per day right now and while I’m getting through it ok, I’m not looking forward to having more throughout the days ahead. I’m thinking I’ll sub in the Greek yogurt that’s on the approved list. I’m surprised I’m not really hungry, but I have waves. I’ve been able to prepare things for my kids. I did order them a pizza on Thursday while my husband was golfing. I really wanted a taste, but that was all. (And no, I didn’t follow through with it!) I also went to work for a few hours on Thursday and that went well though I was tired. My husband I went to Costco this AM and it was good. He got a smoothie at the food court and I had a small sip - wish I could have had a taste of pizza. Apparently pizza is my weakness! [emoji23]

    Question!

I like the Premier but I have to stay away from milk products as much as possible. I am using Genepro that I order from amazon and coconut yogurt. Pretty darn good. 30g of protein.

    Full not satisfied

Slightly different response. If you are in the first couple months after surgery, you might need to really use protein powder to get Un hungry. Because that dizzy weak feeling, if that is what it is, means your body needs more protein. And the tiny amount of food (even the yogurt) might not be getting rid of the dizzy weak feeling. So make up a protein drink to keep in the fridge or a metal thermos beside you all day, and sip from it when your tiny mini meal doesn't satisfy that genuine hunger. It can be tricky to figure out head hunger (cravings) from real need for more protein at first. A few sips of a boring unsweetened protein powder mixed with plain milk will satisfy that protein deficit. It would not satisfy a "head hunger" dreaming of French fries. Maybe it will help you learn.
  14. Hi Everyone! I was sleeved on 9/13, and I'm now 11 days out. [I had a Realize lap band on 6/30/2010, I lost some weight (about 30 lbs band surgery) and then stayed the same for years. I did the HCG diet and got down under 200, but then regained. I had a revision to gastric sleeve on 9/13/2017. ] I have a very high pain threshold so I haven't had anything super bad after my discharge. The first night after surgery was the worst, the gas really added to the pain. They said walking would help, so I walked for about 15 minutes the first evening with the nurse, then again with my daughter later in the night and they woke me up to take my stats about 5:00 AM so I walked more and then went back to sleep and then kept walking multiple times, whenever the pain was getting too much, along with heat packs on my shoulders and sternum. Since coming home, I took liquid Tylenol 3 times. I was doing OK, then overdid it walking my 2 little dogs on Wednesday and then later on starting having a sharp pain in my lower left (not constant, just when I was in certain positions or did certain motions). I searched the web and found multiple mentions that it was likely from overdoing and to rest more, by Friday afternoon, that pain was gone. I mostly feel tired. I do have soreness at the largest incision. I lost the first few days, but then the last 3 I went back up 1 lb (tiny amount each day). So far, I'm down 6 lbs from day of surgery. I'm eating between 500-800 calories a day, I'm using My Fitness Pal to track my food, (it's great and free). I'm OK with the protein shakes. I researched them before surgery and got samples of different brands and flavors, so I had ones I liked for after surgery. I'm adding unflavored protein powder to pureed soups and other beverages (low cal juices, liquid yogurt, V-8, buttermilk). I researched gastric sleeve diets and found most doctors say Week 1-2 full liquids, Week 3-4 Soft Pureed foods, Weeks 5-6 Soft Food, Week 7+ regular food. Some have the 1st week as clear liquid. All seem to recommend 60 grams protein/day. The ones that do mention a water goal list a total of at least 64 ounces of liquid (which includes the liquid protein shakes.) Eating solid food can hurt us at this early a time and all my research shows the longer you stick with this diet, the more you will lose. I keep telling myself, "it's just for today, it's not forever" and I can eat 'real' food again in 2 months of surgery, this time will pass. I'm mostly surprised about the hunger. Everything I read seemed to agree in saying we won't have hunger after surgery (or that the great majority won't have hunger), but in reading the replies, it seems I'm not the only one with hunger, it seems like most of us still have the hunger. My stomach also was growling and rumbling the other day! Thanks for the tip on the free Kindle download of Never Binge Again, I just downloaded it.
  15. Ok so I am a little frustrated at the moment. My bypass was on 8/25. On 9/5 my nutritionistchanged my diet from clear liquids to full liquids. I have been on full liquids since and I am dying over here. I can't tolerate any of the protein shakes so she finally is allowing me to have 1% milk and yogurt but I still haven't had any pureed food. I see most of you on here talking about being on puree two weeks out and I'm just wondering what is going on with me. Is my DR just trying to torture me 😭 I'm craving eggs so bad and she says it will be atleast another month before Eggs are introduced.

    It's Pumkin season!!

Better check with your nutritionist. I'm one week out. I can have Greek yogurt but not puréed vegetables...just worth double checking

    Calories

Yes, I am 5 months out but as you say, at a lower BMI so perhaps this is more appropriate for those closer to goal than those just starting out? I don't know. Initially, I was eating 800 calories a day (and even that was hard) but as per the recommendation of my dietician I aimed for 1000 by 1 month out. It was hard! I needed protein shakes.I am 5 foot 3 so according to the above calculator I need to eat only 1037 calories to lose weight. I found I barely lost weight when I was even eating 1200 calories. What I am saying is everyone has different calorie needs so one size does not fit all! And this calculator scientifically shows that. My calorie needs are not the same as someone taller, younger, with a higher BMI, or someone who is a teacher and on their feet all day...We can calculate our individual needs. I have been trying to hit 1037 daily - not under or over. I was surprised that my optimal calorie level was so low, which is why I thought this would be interesting to share. As you rightly say, it has been HARD to get this level of calories in - I still have at least 1 protein shake a day to accomplish this. Many days I don't quite reach it but I try to reach the desired level and find I honestly lose more weight when I eat at this level rather than undereat!! If I see on MFP I've only eaten 800 calories at the end of the day, I eat some yogurt with a teaspoon of peanut butter for example or some chicken chunks etc. I try to make it to my recommended level and I have been having pretty good results with it. I have currently lost 48lbs which is 80% of my excess weight. I'm losing an average of 10lbs a month (some months less, some months more). I absolutely take my hat off to those starting at a higher BMI and with a longer journey. I know it is super hard and those people have my absolute respect !! This is a tool to inform, that's all. Science can help us. Calculate your PERSONAL needs, try to meet them, see how it goes! ADD: But yes if your doctor has given you a specific plan which goes against what the calculator says, absolutely follow the doctors plan first!! I was not given a specific plan; maybe there are others in the same boat
  18. My surgery was 09/18 and I was discharged 09/20. I am 5 days post op at this point and I am definitely not getting in the water and protein they want me to. I am not really hungry but know I need some protein but am tired of shakes. I am supposed to get in 60 ounces of protein shakes and 64 ounces of water a day before progressing to soft proteins like eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I tolerate the protein shakes ok, just not much at a time. My largest incision hurts when I sit down, stand up or walk, but it is improving a little each day. Coughing is awful however! I have showered and that was great. Lifting any amount of weight really hurts my incisions though. The orange Vitamin Water Zero has been great. I only took pain meds until day 3 post op, only been on Tylenol since. I don’t want the constipation that goes along with pain meds. This is not all unicorns and rainbows, but each day gets better. I am not regretting it, but it’s not the easy way out. I haven’t lost as much as I would have liked to since surgery, but I know I haven’t taken in hardly any protein, so today is the day I up that and get up and around more. I have been walking a bit, looking to increase that as well.
  19. How soon did everyone start eating solids or even soft foods. I am one week out and I'm suppose to still be doing liquids and my funnel diet which includes scrambled eggs and Greek yogurt and broths for another week. but the nurses keep telling me I can slowly start eating regular foods now. I'm scared and don't want to mess anything up.
  20. Atkins Lift protein drink . . . 20 g of protein per bottle, counts as water, not nearly as disgusting as protein shakes. I still like eggs, thank goodness. A lot of stuff I've tried I'm not crazy about--canned chicken pureed and made into a salad was disgusting to me. I'm okay with the ricotta bake, but can't eat a lot of it. Like yogurt or cottage cheese. Still early days here . . .

    Pureed food ideas

I just finished the puréed stage. I ate yogurt and puréed canned fruit, protein shakes, roasted butternut squash to make a soup, broths but make sure they are bone broth a lot more flavor, no sugar puddings and jello.
  22. I'm 4 weeks post op still on full liquid diet and I am completely rejecting the protein shakes. My dr just said to do Skim milk or Yogurt for now.
  23. Due to my BMI, my doc is requiring me to go on the pre-op diet for 4 weeks. Surgery date is oct 9th. At first, I was floored and thought I couldn't possibly do this. I have to replace two meals a day with a high quality protein shake, and one meal can be 3 oz of lean protein and a cup of non starchy vegetables. I can also have two snacks such as a boiled egg, or two TBS of greek yogurt with 1/2 cup of veggies. The first four days I wanted to just slap somebody. I have children, and had to fix them meals and even feed my nephew his food. It was hard touching it and not tasting it, but being 10 days into it, now I'm fine. We had some really ripe bananas and I made healthy banana bread for my son that I didn't have. I've fixed my husband and son dinner and it's been ok. Managing the hunger. Drinking broth when hunger does get bad and making sure to get my water in. I've lost 14 pounds in 10 days, so I feel like I can't complain. My only problem is such a high protein diet is hurting my already sensitive kidneys. I talk to the doc about this on Monday to see what I should do about it.
  24. Hi guys! I'm new here. IIIII NEEEED HELLLLP. I'm 4 days out of surgery and the head hunger is REAL. I've only been eating chicken broth, protein shakes watered down, popsicles, and propel. I have 9 days to go and I'm honestly not as strong as most of you lol. Can you guys help me come up with some creative full liquid ideas? This is what's already on my list: broth, sf gelatin, sf non carbonated beverages, sf popsicles, protein shakes, chewable multivitamins, skim or soy mixed with protein powder, fat free cream soups. And apparently even though it's on the list, I can't have yogurt yet. I guess I need fat free cream soup ideas? Where do you even find that?! I'm dying. Save me. Any help apprexiated<3
