Dragging their ever loving feet....
BustedBeauty posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh have mercy. I have done all I need to do and am just waiting for a date. Surprise, surprise... The secretary who schedules is out of town until next week, and my surgeon is on vacation until Mid-feb. My patience are really being tested. ::sigh:: I am obviously going to keep strict on my diet, and keep exercising just like I have because the more weight I lose pre op the better, but can a girl catch a break??? -
Hi, I have recently found out from my Dr. that Medicaid now pays for the Lap-Band surgery. Does anyone know if they will also cover all of the fills and all that goes with it as well ? I am new to this and I am very excited about having this done, because I want to not only have better health, but I want to live again ! Also, is there any thing that I need to ask my Dr. when I go for my up-coming appointment ? It is a consultation and I have to take records of my weight for the past five years so they can see what it has been like.

I had some clothes up to 3 sizes below what I was wearing on surgery day from all my previous weight loss attempts. Once I went through them, I would buy a couple pairs of pants and a shirt or two from the thrift store as I continued to lose and drop sizes. My old tops were easier to wear than pants even when they were too big. I would let my jeans get quite baggy and cinch up my belt before I bought another pair. I didn't buy new clothes until I knew my weight had stabilized about 9-10 months postop. I did keep one pair of 22W jeans for posterity's sake and my current size 5's still seem like doll clothes when I go to put them on!

I told myself that I would never do this.
valvinnek commented on valvinnek's blog entry in Blog 12700
I told myself that I would never post on a blog, I don't know why. Probably because of the reality factor of actually writing my thoughts and feelings for people to see frighten me. Well here goes the official entry. My story: I was a gymnast from the age of five to the age eighteen. I was never the petite type gymnast that you see on tv, I was thicker, and quite muscular. When I quit competing at eighteen I was active for about a year later, I contemplated bodybuilding but that would mean having a body I really didn't want. Soon came my parents divorce, which I was just downright pissed over, not upset, pissed. Along came my knight in shining armor. We were friends in high school and we were instantly inseperable, and very comfortable with eachother. So it was very easy for us to go out to eat. He was a football player and I had a pretty good appetite. Well without being in the gym and working it off they pounds began to creep on. I always thought the reason why was hormonal not what I was eating. Well we got married in 1998, we started having children right away by Sept 1999 we had our first child, I was able to get down to prebaby weight until I was pregnant again, had our second child in 2001, a little bit harder to get to prebaby weight. I joine Weight Watchers a couple of times, tried Atkins, started exercising, got pregnant with our third child, he was born in 2003. Soon after he was born, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and Hypothyroid Disease. Finally, I thought this is my answer. I will take these little pills and they will help me. DENIAL, I know. Weight Watchers on-line this time. Fourth and final child born early in 2006, and to this date know where close to getting back to the pre-babies weight. That's the long boring background of it all (except for the babies they are far from boring). So here I am 10 days away from surgery. I am so fearful, doubtful, and excited. I had my pre-admission testing done 3 days ago and I've had a knot in my stomach eversince. My doctor only has me on a two day pre-op diet. I start it on Saturday, February 23 with full liquids and on Sunday, February 24 clear liquids, with surgery on Monday February 25th. So here it is, my very long first entry ( I now promise myself that from now on they won't be this long) Here's to a little over a week of nervous behavior! -
Good for you, Alpine! I was glad to see your post....I had my surgery about 3 weeks after you and I was discouraged at first with very slow weight loss. Around September, everything started to kick in and I've been losing about a pound a week consistently. I'm down 43 pounds now.....by your post it looks like that is right where I should be. Although everyone is different, I guess.

2 week partial liquids and then 4 weeks full liquids
MaUxGiJjLeSs posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I dont know what happened but I've started to gain again. So before surgery I have a 2 week partial liquid diet and and then an additional 4 week liquid diet. Its going to be a long struggle but I can do it. -
Hi all, I had my sleeve surgery on 4/13/16. So I'm almost 2 mo. out. Glad to finally make it to eating almost all foods. Here are some things that have caused slight problems. anyone else experience this. Hard to get these to move through stomach: --swallowing pills (even after cutting in half) --Fiber foods like cereals (raisin bran, Kashi) --whole grain oatmeal --crackers Any suggestions? Are there some foods that no matter how far out from surgery you decide just to avoid?? Also my weight loss has slowed. What helps most: exercise drinking lots of Water eating less, and only eating Protein and frozen veg eating NO sweets or Desserts I try to eat yogurt with fruit when i want something sweet. Also I have resumed drinking coffee in a.m. but not sure how to do it since you can't eat and drink at same time. So is it best to have a cup of coffee and wait 1 hr before Breakfast. Or to eat something first thing like an egg cooked, then wait an hr before having coffee? thanks in advance,

if you are losing inches, you are losing (weight) just because the scale is not moving or going slow, and you are eating well and exercising as you wrote and not eating more calories than you burn off, then i see no problem....doing a great job in my eyes...if only you could see it from my view today.....maybe then you'd realize just how great you are doing.

Scale victory for today :)
GoingforGoal replied to Julie121212's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi 5. You are absolutely right. All those milestones are just as relevant as the scale #s (dropping clothes sizes, new bmi ranges, ability to do something physically you couldn't before etc). When I got to BMI 24 and was "normal" weight range I just didn't know what to think. It was just as relevant as being 155 or size 6. Find those little milestones and celebrate them> They all serve as great motivation to keep going! -
Banded 6/26... Am on solids and am gaining some of the weight back I lost prior to surgery and immediate losses after surgery. Still trying to understand the meaning of "Full." I know what it meant as a fat person, belly so full I had to loosen my belt... But now? While I dread the first fill, last week of Aug. I have yet to change my eating habits (ie. poor food choices). Wish me luck.. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but damn how I wish it would be.

Thanx so much for the info. i2candoit. I called my insurance co. today and was able to get a little bit more info. from a different gal. She told me that my doctor can put in a request for me to have a specific type of weight loss surgery done if he feels that it would be of better for me, even if it is not approved through my insurance, and it is possible that it would be approved. While this is not a guarantee, at least it's better than being told that I will not be covered at all for the lap band.

American Sleeved In Pakistan On 2/29
Afro_Cyster replied to IT'SMYTIME's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats! Other than the traveling bit (which by the way I am jealous of), our story reads the same. I have always been active in sports, yet could not lose more than 15lbs. I also have PCOS. I plan on kicking this weight in the dust. -

Greetings And Finally A Group That Will Have Me And Am Glad To Be Part Of!
Kflower84 replied to Winsane's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your portion choices are as important as your food choices. I remember when I went to the seminar the speaker said "you can not expected to loose weight eating oreos and ice cream for dinner." I think that was so funny because it had crossed my mind that I could eat anything as long as it was small portions. Sometimes its hard to change old habits. Portion control is a problem for me mostly at dinner time and I encounter that more often if Im eating out. I think my problem is that by the time dinner comes am starving due to the fact that I eat very little during the day. So I eat til my belly hurts (like Ilene said). I wish I didn't do that, I dont want to stretch my pouch.... -
Second Gastric sleeve
TinaJK replied to kjnelson's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am planning to get a re-sleeve surgery on 7/25, I am a little nervous about it because I have heard so many people say that the second surgery is harder on the body and t he weight loss is minimal. Others have said it’s all in what you put into it. I have 40lbs to lose. I would love to know how you are doing now, and if you feel your weight loss goals are possible the second time around. Thanks so much for sharing your experience! -
I am 7 mos post op. I am able to eat just about whatever I like. Sometimes I just want to eat on and off all day. Sometimes I wonder if this is because I am not getting enough calories or just wanting more. Either way I am terrified that I will do something that will undo all that I have done to lose my current amount of weight (82 lbs and counting). I am wondering if anyone is having these kinds of feelings or struggles? Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App

Hello World! I am so excited to be begining this journey, finally! My name is Michelle, and I am a 25 year old wife and mother of one (which at this time is quite enough, lol) living in New York, about a hour and a half north of NYC. My story is pretty standard for most overweight people in many ways. I have been severely overweight nearly my entire life and have fought like hell to just be normal, while always falling just short of success. Everything that I tried has failed in the long term, and after having my son I can say I jsut truly gave up. I focused everything I had on my family and never saw the pounds piling on until it was way too late. As a child, I was on my first medically supervised diet at seven years old, but can remember the doctors comments to my mother well before then about my weight. Unlike many obese people, the one thing I do not have against me is heredity. I am the only fat chick in a family of truly beautiful people. In fifth grade, when a classmate found out I was related to the gorgeous petite blonde with green eyes in the 8th grade, I was asked something I wll never forget. "You are related to her? What happened to you?" By then I had already heard a million comments and nasty remarks but that one cut me deep. I knew I was the odd man out in the family and to have strangers point that out hurt. I have been obese for 3/4 of my enitre life and should have realized a million times over that I had lost control. The truth is, it took an innocent comment by my five year old son for me to look in the mirror. I mean, really look.

From the album: My Journey <3
These are some jars I made (got the idea off of pinterest) as a visual encouragement for my weight loss. For each pound I lose I will place one marble into the "pounds lost" jar. feel free to use and share this idea if you want! -
What kind of insurance do you have? I had to follow a six month diet of logging and turning in every thing I ate, the psych eval, sitting in weight loss surgery classes, going to group meetings, etc. I had all the testings done, sleep studies (once a year), EKG's, Stress tests at my cardiologist, colonoscopy's, endoscopies, and six months of meetings with their bariatric specialist, nutritionist, etc. and my second meeting with surgeon on April 18th. I was told they would fax everything by the end of the week. I called BCBSIL yesterday and they said it's in with medical review and now, I'm feeling exactly like you, concerned, impatient and stressed. I will probably check in with the insurance company on Monday, though I should probably wait until Tuesday. good luck.

Insurance Question - Switch
Codedsub replied to Codedsub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am waiting to hear back on Monday. The Molina customer service leaves much to be desired. I called them to have them transfer my record over to Regence and they had no idea how to and had to get managers, supervisors, etc. Then they mentioned maybe doing a letter stating I finished my 6 months of stuff, but the guy needed to talk to his supervisor and figure out how. Then tried telling me, oh there was only 5 of 7 tickets sent to me, had to go through explaining that they were definitely sent and I have my ww booklet right here that says otherwise. That didn't seem like much of an issue (5 of 7 tickets would still be 7 calendar months anyway) I'm hoping they can get this figured out, I really don't want to wait 7 months for the surgery. What a waste of perfectly good weight loss time... o.o -
First appt. with PCM- Tricare
Tayfusion replied to NOVAMOM348's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Medicaid. My pcp had to send a letter of medical necessity to the weight loss center but the NP at the facility is supervising my medical visits for 6 months and not my pcp. I have health alliance connect of Illinois. -
First appt. with PCM- Tricare
singerbabe replied to NOVAMOM348's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Novamom! Welcome! I just got my approval today and I have Tricare Prime Remote West. I went to my PCM and talked to him about my weight and then because he agreed I was a good candidate and with everything I had tried it was my best option he then put in a referral with Tricare for a consultation. If the doctor you go to is like mine you have to go to a seminar and then meet all of your requirements before they will even do your consult. -
Have you had any fills yet? I lost 20 pounds after surgery say first month and then things really hit a road block. I had one fill but really has done nothing for me cant have another one until next week. I too am weighing my food, exercising every day. Do I think I am loosing inches yes. But frustrating not to be loosing weight.

You don't mention how much you wanted to lose or your BMI. Truthfully, you need to decide how important being thinner is to you. I know that I'm never going to get to a BMI of 21 or 22 simply because I am not willing to do the work it would take to get there or maintain that kind of weight. I think you need to decide if you are willing to work out more (and more careful eating) or if you are happy with your weight loss. Personally, I think it's great that you've been maintaining. It's something that scares me. I keep telling myself that it's more important to keep off the weight I've lost than to lose more. We've come so far on this journey, I don't want to go back. Cindy
