    Hurts When I Drink

Enerfina!!! Welcome to the losers bench!!! I think the first week is the hardest! I was told no more than one ounce every 8 to 10 minutes! And I was lucky to get that in. But after about 5 or 6 days, it starts to get easier and easier. I think it's because the swelling starts to go down. We are all different so it can vary a bit. But I was just like you in the begining. I can say that for me, at week 2, WOW, I felt great and things got much, much better. But again, I think the first week is the most challenging. Just keep plugging away at sip, sip, walk, walk, sip, sip, walk, walk... it's a job!, But you'll get through it! Best of luck! Post with how you're doing!

    Odd Non Scale goals

I'm not sure that these were goals, but things that surprised me. Jewelry - had to get a new Pandora bracelet for my charms because all of mine were the biggest ones they make and no longer fit. When she fit me this weekend she said that my new bracelet is the standard size. Pretty cool. My ring size has gone down two sizes. I still have fat fingers wearing a size 8, but much better than the size 10. Necklaces are too long. At least I could add extenders, but haven't figured out how to make them shorter. Shoes - have to get rid of most of my shoes. Flip flops were flying off my feet when I walked. My wide calf boots are now way too wide. They were really expensive too. Even my pumps seem to be too big now. I can now reach a light switch in my kitchen for the under cabinet lighting. Before I had to use a spoon to reach it. I never even realized this was because I was too fat and the counter was in the way. The room between me and the steering wheel and the table in booths is amazing. I really didn't realize how uncomfortable I was before. I'll be on a plane in a couple of weeks so can't wait to see how the seat belt fits.
  5. My best friend gave me 2 boxes full of tons of clothes! I was trying them on yesterday and I was happy when the size 10's seemed extra comfortable. I had tried on one pair of jeans that I really liked and though they zipped and buttoned with ease they weren't quite as roomy. None the less I liked the way they looked best so I decided to put them on for the day and I realized that they were a size 8!!! I was shocked, I have no idea when I was a size 8 before, I assumed it must be the jeans, so I looked through the box and found another pair of size 8, again they zipped with ease. I was cautiously excited but still thinking that it was just the luck of the jeans. So my husband and I went shopping, I tried on 4 different pairs of pants all a size 8 and all fit me!!! Of course some fit better then others but they all buttoned and zipped with ease. I can't believe that I am in a size 8 I have been a pretty slow but steady loser so for me this is an accomplishment, I wasn't sure that I would even make it to single digit clothes. My ultimate goal would be to wear a size 6 and now I am feeling like slow but steady might get me there, even if I take longer then others! I love these NSV's thanks for letting me share
  6. I (unfortunately) fell into the Last Meal Syndrome bit and probably put on an extra 10 pounds before surgery...stupid, stupid, stupid. I felt blah! This is not the end of eating forever...but just the beginning. Check with your doctor about the pre-op diet. I only had the liquid diet to shrink the liver for a little bit. check with yours

    First Size 10 Jeans!

Hi Felicity, My starting weight\size is as follows: WT 227; Size 16. Not 5.5 month later and I can fit into a size 10\ WT 178lbs
  9. I need to be on a 3 different types of psych medications that cause weight gain! I didn't want to take them, but my sanity and health depends on them and I was taking one of them before surgery. I have asked for similar medications that don't have the weight gain side effect and it seems like there are none that would take care of my symptoms. So I've been taking these. As a result, my weight loss has been very slow and compared to others minimal! I am at 13 months post op and have already gained 6 lbs after starting my last medication which was a month ago! Now, I'm not saying I have been perfect, but I don't think I've ate so bad as to have gained 6 lbs! I'm ashamed to tell anyone, but I'm sure they can tell themselves! I have already stopped taking one of the medications that causes weight gain because it really wasn't helping my symptoms much. There are 2 other medications I take that cause weight gain but since these are in my system long term, I am afraid to stop taking them and seriously doubt my doctor would approve. I'm afraid of not taking them too. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow, but I doubt anything will come out of it. There aren't many weight neutral psych medications! and it's already been difficult to get me stable so since these meds work for my condition, I doubt that my doctor will change them. And quite frankly, I am afraid to try other things since like I said, it took a long time and many trial and errors for me to become emotionally stable. My weight loss surgeon said the meds makes it harder to lose, but they have actually caused a weight gain! He gave me phentermine to help, but it's been two weeks on them and I see no difference! My eating hasn't changed much from when I was losing. I still exercise daily and stay away from starchy food. I haven't been consistent with logging food, which I started doing again yesterday. I'm 10 lbs away from my goal but I am not hopeful that I can lose these last 10 lbs. and I'm afraid of gaining more weight if I continue taking these medications. I feel defeated and feel like a failure because of the 6 lbs I've gained back. Has anyone been in this situation? What did you do? Please share your experience if you have had similar issues. Thank you

    1 month post op

Sleeved 12/19/16 Start weight 208 Current 190 I feel the same. I thought I would lose more and I barely lost 18lbs I'm not happy at all. But I do agree that if the starting weight was on the smaller side then it will take longer but it's frustrating when you have gone through so much. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hernia Fears

One of the reasons laparoscopic surgery is done so often, and for so many different procedures, is because the risk of a hernia is so much smaller because of the incision size. In an "open" procedure, the incision is often 8-10 inches long. Such a long incision does come under stress and the internal edges can separate and allow the bowel to intrude. It's highly unlikely that a laparoscopic incision will herniate. Not impossible, just rare. If you did have one, they are surgically repaired and the weakened area strengthened with sutures or, sometimes, surgical mesh. If nothing is bulging out of your incisions, if they are not red and swollen, and you do not have a fever, you probably don't have one, and if you did it would be tiny. Really, this is not something you need to worry about, but if you need convincing, go to your doctor and ask them to palpate your abdomen. They can feel a hernia.
  12. I am six weeks post op today! I am on soft foods beginning to introduce normal foods and it is going well, except my protein intake. I have just found nature valley protein bars 190 cal 6 g of sugar 10 g protein and I love them and can eat a whole one in one sitting. My question is, can I have more than one a day? I can't stand protein powder, I just ordered the unjury sample pack and am praying it is as good as people say! I have bought so many different protein powders, ready to drink protein drinks just to have them sit there and never touched again (waste of money)!

    Vacation after surgery?

Suggest you ask your surgeon about your internal stitches and healing before you go. I heard of a person who switched to solids too quickly due to being on vacation. She developed a leak and infection. You want to carefully follow your food plan. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

    Banded on 4-16-09

I had my band on Apr 23rd. I had problems because the I-V came out when I was moved from recovery to my room, and 4 nurses poking 12 holes in my hands and arms couldn't get the I-V started for 12 hours after surgery. I have sleep apnea also and stayed in the Hosp for 2 nights. Had trouble froathing and could not keep down liquids for most of the first week. Lost 26 lbs the first week. See the Dr. this Wed and expect that I have lost another 15 lbs or so. Finally feeling real well, able to eat mashed potatos, tuna salad and other soft foods as long as I take small bites, chew well and eat S-L-O-W. Thank goodness for Orange koolaid and Ozarka Water. Kept me going for the first 10-12 days.

    Anyone Regret Being Sleeved?

No regrets so far. 4 weeks this coming Monday and I have only lost 6 pounds but am patiently (sort of:) waiting it out. I had (and still do ) a lot of gurgling and growling sounds in my stomach and it still is slightly uncomfortable to drink water and sometimes to eat. The first week I had a meltdown when something I tolerated the day before was causing me to feel awful. I did regret it for a few hours that day. But your hormones are also all over the place after surgery so I think it is normal to feel negative. Hang in there. It's done now and 9 out of 10 people seem to have no regrets at all. I bet you will feel that way too. Maybe sooner than you think! Good luck!

    Banded on 4-16-09

Congrats! I was banded on the 14th and was so happy to see that you a jfc193 were also banded around the same time:thumbup:. I had to also stay in the hospital Doctors orders. It was fine the only complication I had was uvulitis after the surgery. It was huge:eek:and felt weird. I was freaking out seriously it was as wide as my thumb. It's back to normal thank goodness I wouldn't want to walk around like that. I'm on liquids including skim milk for 10 days...it's not that bad. sugar free popsicles are good. Not too many choices. Well girls I hope we stay in touch throughout this journey. take care.

    I Feel Great!!!

WOW...what a POWERFUL post....(surgery date 9/19) You are an inspiration...congratulations on your AMAZING GOOD health!
  18. I am a QSR restaurant manager and am wondering when I can expect to go back to work... no surgery date set yet, just completed my sleep study. I am hoping for the week after Turkey Day. I work 10 hour shifts and am on my feet the whole time. Anyone out there who also manages a QSR restaurant...? What should I expect when I return to work..?? I was originally told 2 weeks...now I am hearing 3-4 weeks... I do not have STDL and really can not afford to take so much time off... But I do not want that to be a reason for me to regret my choice to have surgery.

  20. hey family, i am so glad to be home after staying in the hospital for 3 days because i could not drink 10z of liquids that i was suppose to drink on my last day on tuesday.. i was sleeved on the 5th of march at 10:30 am.. wasnt bad, woke up with pain, short of breath but i got up and walked.. so now i am home, yesturday i struggled getting past 1/4 of a cup and it took me the whole day to drink 10z of isopure, so i did not make it past the 64 oz water or liquid intake, nor the protein.. so today i started off kinda better than yestuday. i set a schedule for 5 meals, n 30 mins between i could take my liquids.. i waked for 2 hour out side, kinda breesy so i came back inside.. so i am having a hard time when drinking and theses cheawable gas x pills i feel are not helping,.. i have pressure on my chest when i breath, that i didnt feel yesturday n it hurts when i drink even if its half a teaspoon.. never the less, i managed to drink my first meal 4oz of orginal soy milk, which was like heaven to taste but when it went down omg wat a pain.. its bearable but i just hope my tummy heals that way i can really start my proteins.. n heated liquids i feel go down better than cold.. i cant take cold ice, it doesnt settle with my tummy.. any tips n advice will be more than welcomed and appreciated.. i am totally new now lol still happy with my choice!

    Who set your goal weight?

On here I set my goal weight. I think for my height and BMI number, the weight I want to reach is a good milestone for me both physically and especially emotionally. By surgeon however has this expectation that I should be about 40lbs lighter than my goal. I think it could be doable, with additional factors into play such as skin removal surgery. The problem is that I honestly don't know if I'll ever want to go through that surgery. This last surgery was very rough for me, and I did have some complications. I was under in that surgery for almost 4 hours. From what I've read and seen online, the skin removal surgery is an almost 8 to 10 hour procedure, and the recovery is long and very painful. Mentally I know right now I am not ready for that. And therefore I kinda have already known in my head that 180lbs might be only realistic to me if another surgery is involved. Do I want the other surgery??????

    High Risk?

*disclaimer- please withhold negative opinions, looking for advice, not judgement*. That being said, I'm 10 months out, down 115 lbs and looking to get knocked up. Based on having a gastric sleeve, those of you who are prego, are you considered to be high risk based on the surgery by your MD?
  23. Hi I am 10 days post op I am so tired and feel run down could sleep all day and have no problem sleeping at night did anyone feel this way and if so how long before your energy comes back

    High Risk?

I am 18 months and and find myself pregnant and I was NOT trying! (I think we all turn super fertile after major weight loss) I think at 10 months out you are getting to a place where you can start to get pregnant and start nourish a baby. Ideal, probably not... High risk? probably not.. a little extra monitoring? yes, but that's ok! Good luck!
  25. My goal is to lose 38% of my total starting body weight. I state it that way because people (those who I've confided in) tell me "you don't need that surgery." Even my bariatric surgeon (who I think is great) looked at me as they were prepping me for surgery and said "no one would believe you are a bariatric patient." These statements bother me because this is not an easy decision for anyone who makes it. I am 4' 11". I have never been 5' and will never be. My BMI is 35.3. I am 57 yrs old. I have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, have joint pains... I can go on. At my highest I weighed 175 lbs. My body knows I'm obese. I have lost a lot of weight, several times and in-between I was either losing or gaining. I always gained more back. My sister (5' 4") and I lost a lot together a few years and then we both gained it all back and then some. Last year my sister confided in me that she was 4 weeks post surgery for the sleeve. I was shocked. I wasn't in the mindset to start another diet again yet but surgery seemed extreme. I read her brochures and listened to her process and still doubted. I saw her again this last summer (lives a couple of states away) and after 8 months, she lost 65 lbs and looks great! I watched her and she behaved "normally". She didn't dwell on food and she didn't require a special diet. She was enjoying her new life with her new body. I was tired of failed diets. I went to the next information session on bariatric surgery. Three months later I had sleeve surgery. I don't want to review my status right now because I know I am healing and changing and any issues are temporary. I can tell you that I am down 15 lbs (10 day pre-surgery diet and first days of clear liquids). Kudos to my sister who is my support group.
