Hey everyone! So I have started my diet which consists of 2-3 protein shakes a day. What brands of powder do you all suggest? My surgeons office recommends the brand that they sell at the office (bariatric fusion), but if I could buy it at the grocery store it would be much cheaper. Thanks!

Illinois Health Insurance Exchange - Obamacare Coverage
OutsideMatchInside replied to UpandAtom's topic in Insurance & Financing
Asking your provider (insurance provider?) or asking the hospital what their cash price is? These are 2 different things. My surgery billed at 38K but the insurance agreed rate was under 12K (what BCBSIL actually paid). A lot of hospitals in the US offer cash prices in the 11-12K range. http://kcbariatric.com/compare/ http://www.hoab.org/procedures/gastric-sleeve-st-louis-mo/ I believe someone who posted on here said blossom was 10K and that was in 2013. http://www.fox5vegas.com/story/27844392/blossom-bariatrics-at-the-forefront-of-low-cost-weight-loss-surgery Everyone has to make a choice that is comfortable for them. You don't really have to have long term care from your surgeon, you can do your follow up care with your primary. If cost is an issue, there are lots of avenues to explore. Depending on where you live in Illinois a BCBS single plan is going to cost you around $300-500 or more a month for one person (it varies by age and county). I think the lowest out of pocket max on a plan is $4500. So premiums and out of pocket are going to be 7500-9500 alone. Might as well cash pay, because you are basically cash paying at that point anyway. Unless you have your heart set on using Northwestern or University of Chicago, I don't see any other center in Illinois being worth the cost and hassle of insurance. -
Very grouchy husband after vgs
Lexigurl82 replied to LMSWNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@LMSWNYC Sounds like you have a insecure husband and due to his low self esteem and low confidence, he does not like the new you. Whatever happens, do not stop living a healthy lifestyle. As someone above mentioned, divorce isn't uncommon after bariatric surgery. Once you begin to lose weight, you start to gain confidence and realize your self worth. I had the gastric sleeve performed in December 2015. 3 weeks after my surgery, my husband and I separated and he blamed he surgery when in fact, he was the issue. I had not lost that much weight, as I was only 3 weeks out from surgery. A month later, I filed for a divorce. We were married for 7 years too long. When I married my ex husband 7 years ago, I was already overweight. I had no self esteem, no confidence. He on the other hand was not overweight, educated and said he wanted to marry me. I grabbed him by the coat tails because I didn't think anyone else would want me since I was overweight. Every year that we were married, I continued to gain weight because I was extremely unhappy and depressed in our marriage. His actions kept me on edge and I was thrown in competitions with women and his porn addiction. After I had my surgery, I sat down with him and asked him to change his ways or lose me forever. He refused to stop watching porn and also rejected me in the process, yet he insisted he loved me. I left home thinking he would change but he got worse. He ended up finding a mistress and slept with her the day after our wedding anniversary, which was this past January. Our divorce was just finalized in July 2016. I am pretty sure he hates the new me and I am ok with that lol. I suggest that you and your husband consider marriage counseling and I hope he is receptive. If he doesn't wish to go through with counseling and believe that you love him and only him, your situation will just go from bad to worse. I really wish you the best and I apologize for my long post lol. Feel free to reach out to me anytime and please keep us all posted. Congrats on your weight loss and keep up the good work no matter what! -
This is what my stomach looked like after the bypass
SorryNameTaken replied to chula313's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looks yummy, like a nice bariatric buffet! My scars from my band aren't too bad anymore, but that was over 11 years ago. The only one that is still really visible is the one where they put the port in, it's about 2 to 2.5 inches long and still somewhat purple. You won't have to deal with that though! Other than that, there's one other scar still noticeable, but it's flesh-colored, it just looks like a different texture than the rest of my skin. I didn't use any scar fading cream, but a lot of people have great success with them if that's something you are worried about 😃 Thanks for sharing! -
OTC Drugs which are ok for sleeve and which are NOT
kaykay replied to BeardedItalian48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, that's pretty much what I've understood about the NSAIDS too. Obviously, NSAIDS are generally hard on the stomach for anyone, not just bariatric surgery patients. But some people feel their situation is such that they must have some. I understand that some people have even chosen the sleeve over the RNY because for bypass patients NSAIDS are totally forbidden. -
I agree on the bariatric advantage. In addition to lemon, they have raspberry that's pretty good. I take 4 a day. It really helps me with my snacking, because I take 2 about mid morning and 2 mid afternoon, when the munchies hit! They usually fill me up so I don't have room for snack food.

360+ pounds?!? help!
bugsy72 replied to allyrenee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the bypass on Dec. 1. Started at 302, now at 264 (including pre surgery diet loss). I choose RNY because I was diabetic, and had a lot of weight to lose, and i was hoping I would have dumping (and I do) because I was a sugar junkie, and i needed a tool to help me stay away from it! It made me feel more confident, knowing it was the "gold standard" in bariatric surgery. My surgeon trained under the doctor who invented this surgery (Dr Mason, I believe), so that made me feel confident in his abilities, as well. I am thankful for the malabsportion because it also helps me lose weight and will help maintaining my loss. I will take Vitamins etc the rest of my life. I realize that. good luck...only you can make the decision! -
AND THE INNER PANIC SETS IN.... LOWER BMI PEOPLE??
Introversion replied to Pistol_Annie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep. My weight has yo-yo'ed up and down since my mid-teens. At age 15 I lost 30+ pounds during a summer-long low-calorie diet, going from 155 to 125. I regained all the weight plus more in a couple of years. At age 20 I weighed 176 pounds and stood 5'1 short. I lost 60 pounds on a very low-calorie diet plus exercise and weighed in at 116 pounds. I regained it all plus more, and by age 24 weighed 205 pounds. At age 26 I weighed 216 pounds. I lost 55 pounds through diet and exercise, but regained most of it. At age 29 I weighed 203 pounds. I lost 25 pounds through diet and exercise, but regained most of it. On my 32nd birthday I weighed 180 pounds. I was asked to be a bridesmaid for an upcoming wedding, so I lost 52 pounds through diet and exercise, weighing in at 128 pounds on the wedding day. I regained it all (plus more) within a year. By my 34th birthday I weighed 225, my heaviest weight ever. I had weight loss surgery two months after my 34th birthday. Bariatric surgery is no guarantee of anything, but this is the first time in my life that I've been weight-stable and not so fixated on food. So when people say, "You can lose the weight without surgery," I agree. In fact, I've lost 200+ pounds over the past couple of decades. Losing weight was not my issue...keeping it off was problematic. Bariatric surgery has offered the last glimmer of hope for keeping the weight off. However, my struggle will be lifelong. -
Has weight loss affected ovulation timing?
crazydaisy0729 replied to crazydaisy0729's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks for your responses. I have always been fairly regular, though I was never as heavy as I have been in the past year. My doctor has asked me a couple times since surgery if my TOM has gotten more regular, but I hadn't really noticed. I guess now we will see! But is it more likely that now I am lighter that my period will be more regular not less? My gyno said she wanted my weight to stabilize for 3 months before ttc...though I'm not really sure why as my bariatric doctor said he's encouraged his patients to keep their fills. Has anyone ever heard this before? -
And we have a winner, I think! :blushing: I REALLY liked this surgeon. We just sort of clicked, if that makes sense. She's slightly more expensive than the other two I had consults with, but she includes some lipo with the tummy tuck, and the others didn't. Her price is $13,570 for everything (TT, BL, lipo, medication, pain pump, night in hospital, anesthesia, etc.). She's not super-commercialized, which I really like (that was one thing that made me a tad uncomfortable with surgeon #2). In fact, I wouldn't have even known about her if I hadn't gotten a PM from one of her patients on MMH. Her site never came up in any of my searches. She's supposed to be a top surgeon, too, from what I've been able to find. One thing that really impressed me when I was talking with her is that she showed me some of her so-so results as well as the good ones, and told me why they weren't as good as they could have been. She didn't just pick and choose her best results to advertise, you know? Anyway, she has done a lot of work with bariatric patients and the vast majority of her photos are really, really good. And they were of real people, not just skinny-minnies who just needed two inches of skin removed.

Which Bariatric vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements do YOU take ?
Alex Brecher posted a topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements are important for staying healthy when you’re a bariatric surgery patient. Not every patient receives the same advice and some patients don’t know the best options. This forum is a great place to let everyone know which bariatric supplements YOU take. Can you please take a few minutes to share which dietary supplements you take? Thanks for spreading the word! 1. Do you take a bariatric daily multivitamin/mineral supplement? Which brand and formulation specifically? For example, you might take Centrum for Women or One a Day Women’s Active Metabolism. 2. Which bariatric vitamins and minerals do you take each day? What is the brand and formulation of each? For example, you might take Puritan’s Pride Calcium Magnesium Vitamin D or Nature Made Iron 65 mg (ferrous sulfate). 3. Which other supplements (including herbals) do you take, and what brands are they? For example, you might take Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omegas fish oil. -

So you do the bariatric twice a day and the regular women’s multi once a day at the same time at the bariatric? I noticed it has the calcium in it so I’m guessing we can’t use it until a month post op

Post Sleeve Pre Bypass Limbo
charpower replied to BJLS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No I have not had any type of bariatric related surgery. My gastric bypass the schedule for January 23, 2018. I’ve had heart surgery in the past and hernia repair is well a few other things I had a hysterectomy in 2013 due to cancer. I wish that I had thought that bariatric surgery was and option for me back then because I may not have had some of those surgeries anyway. But I can’t live in the past I have to look towards the future so as of now bariatric surgery the beginning of 2018 and hopefully much better health moving forward. -

Looking for better calcium citrate option
Sajijoma replied to 3boysmama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I use bariatric advantage chewy bite 500's. Just take one after each meal and they taste good. I usually keep a bag of chocolate and caramel on hand and sometimes switch out with peanut butter. -
So, I'm taking the Bariatric Fusion vitamins - you take 4 a day, at least 2 hours apart. While I usually space them throughout the day, my NUT said it was OK to take 2 together. So, here's my dilemma - I ran out of vitamins at work, so I took one this AM, then 2 when I got home at 9PM. I won't be awake at 11. I can't decide if I go ahead and take another around 10 to get my 4 in today, or assume its too much too close together so the last med won't absorb? Any advice? thanks! PS - already packed a week's worth of vitamins to take to work tomorrow so this won't happen again.

I like the bariatric pal protein shots. If you get them, make sure they are the complete protein. My favorite flavors are the cran-grape and apple. They come in 25g and 15g. It's the only protein I've been able to tolerate flavor wise.

Yes I had bariatric surgery Dec 8 2014 in Winston Salem

OUCH DL...hope you feel better soon. REDSON - Divide it all. If 14 ounces is 25 grams of protein...then half 7 ounces would be 12.5 grams. 3.5 ounces would be 6.25 grams etc. Baltomomma - It's my understanding the goal isn't so much calories but, protein. Have you tracked your protein intake? Checked with your surgeon/bariatric center to see how much you should be taking in at this point in your weightloss journey? Good Luck!

No problems...'til vitamins
Soready2lose replied to Soready2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My multivitamin, B complex, and probiotic are all Bariatric Advantage. I also take vitamin D and a calcium chew (though the calcium doesn't bother me). I never thought about taking them at night! I will be trying that tonight. Thank you all so much for the feedback!! I'm feeling hopeful again ???? -
Been researching and have pretty much settled on these 3 surgeons in Mexico: Ariel Ortiz, Obesity Control Center Guilleremo Alvarez, Endobariatric Dr. Lopez, Specialized Bariatrics Any info on any of them would be GRATEFULLY appreciated. If you don't want to post it here, please PM me. Dr. Lopez is the cheapest then Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Alvarez. Money is not the only consideration though. I am looking at having Lapband removed and a sleeve put in place. I go see my primary care physician on Friday, 1/31/13 and if I get his blessing want to move on it as soon as I can. TIA
