  1. I'm always a little shocked to see people say it takes, 3, 4, or even more fills before they feel proper restriction. For those of you who it took that many times, were you filled under flouro or "blind filled?" My experiece, succinctly, has been this: 1st fill was October 26th, under flouro, and I saw the opening to my stomach go from wide open to about 10% of it's previous side. I felt some restriction, but I lost a lot of weight during this time, so my port opened back up. 2nd fill was also under flouro, the port was wide open (doctor explained this was weight-loss related), and I saw him reduce the port size to what looked like a trickle. I REALLY have restriction now and have to be careful with anything I eat other than liquids. I can get down just about anything, but not if I'm forgetful and swallow too big of a poorly chewed bite. I don't even bother with rice, grits, bread, or Pasta anymore though. The only way I see me getting filled a third time is when I lose more weight the band adjusts on it's own again. How about your experiences?

    Weight gain

10 lbs of fluid gain. Don't worry. You'll lose it with about 50 trips to the bathroom.
  3. This is not an original recipe, but when you get to have meat or even puree, this might work for you... It'll easily feed 6 people. 60 if they are all sleeved HAHAHA cut up a 3 lb cut of pork (I use pork loin because its leaner) rub with 1 Tbspn of Hawaiian Red Sea Salt (you can find this at places like Trader Joes...and if not, Kosher Salt makes a decent substitute) Rub with abt 1 Tbspn of liquid Smoke (I like the smokey flavor, so usually double that amount for us) 1/2 Cup Water Put it all in a crock-pot and cook on high for about 8-10 hours. Then using 2 big forks, shred the pork and let it rest in the juices. I usually serve this over Trader Joes Brown Jasmine Rice with some sauteed cabbage (and if I'm lazy, I buy a bag of coleslaw shreds to saute and use that!). I made this for my family this week and ended up really grooving on the pulled pork. I shredded it very finely for myself and then chewed well. YUM!
  4. Hi all. So I've spoken with 3 people I know that have had gastric bypass and they said that they did not exercise at all and still lost weight. One of them lost 80 pounds in 10 months. Why do sleevers have to exercise to lose? What is the difference between the two? Not making excuses, just want to know why?

    Should I do VSG?

The only thing I'd be concerned about is that 50 lbs is not much to lose. I'd ask the surgeon to give you at least a 40f so you will have a better shot at being able to stop the weightloss after you hit50-60 lbs lost. If he gives you a 32, it might be a lot harder to stop the weightloss when you want to. That's just my opinion, and some people say bougie size has very little to do with it, but mine's a 40 and I've lost a lot of weight, never thrown up, never had problems with any food, etc. I love that I'm able to eat anything, just a lot less of it. I'm almost 5 months out and losing steadily. A good example of what I can eat is what I ate yesterday. 1/2 cup of oatmeal with 7 cashews and 10 frozen blueberries 2 string cheese 1/3 of a mango 2 ozs of rice/vermicelli/scrambled eggs/chicken breast 1/4 cup of greek yogurt 1/2 cup of endive/mashedpotatoes/bacon/nutmeg/vinegar mush with 1 cheese souffle (Admittedly this meal took me about an hour to eat but I knew I needed to try to get dinner in because I have a kidney infection so I had been sipping white beer and cranberry juice all day. Man it's hard to drink beer after VSG.) Then before bed I had 5 saltines with light gouda cheese. I thought after all that I'd show a gain on the scale (the beer and cranberry juice alone was 700 calories) but I actually lost another 2 lbs. I dunno, maybe bougie size doesn't matter that much, but I know I can eat enough healthy food with a 40f whereas some people I've read that have a 32 can't get in much more than 1/4-1/2 cup of food at a time. If I only had 50 lbs to lose, I'd be scared it wouldn't stop. I have a few friends that are 20-30 lbs below goal and try very hard to gain weight. We're all different, so it's hard to say, but I do know that a 40 allows me to get in proper nutrition (my 4/5 month bloodwork was excellent!) and still lose weight. Additionally, if for some reason a 40 is too big and you have trouble maintaining, you can have additional surgery to convert to a bypass or switch, but if you get a 32 and can't stop losing, what can you do? Nothing except get used to weighing 110 lbs. Just my opinion. I do think the sleeve is an AMAZING tool, but for someone who has only 50 lbs to lose, it's a risk that your body might get down way below goal before it matures/heals enough to allow you to stop.
  6. I had Gastric Sleeve 6/10 and did very well for the first six months. Down 62 pounds. I also have Rhuematoid Arthritis and was put on some medications with weight gain as side effects. Now I am 1 yr post op and I'm only down 45 pounds from my starting weight. Very depressed and feel like my stomach has stretched. I can eat way more that I should be able too. I have altered some of my meds and hoping that will help, but I feel hungry and crave things I never did! Help!!! What do I do if I am stretched, and how can I get back on track???

    Must haves gizmos and gadgets?

Recliner. I had the RNY GB and although it was laproscopic, they cut the stomach muscle. OMG was that a shock the first time I tried to get out of bed. I finally got it down in the hospital with the automatic bed. When I got home, I got into my bed, fell asleep and woke up in agony because I rolled over and strained the stomach muscle. I finally got myself out of the bed (pushed through the agonizing pain) and slept on my couch sitting up feet up on the ottoman) for two days until the recliner came. I should have gotten the electronic kind and not manual (my sister ordered it for me. I knew I shouldn't have listened to her - lol) but even with the manual (It is a pain in the butt to push the foot rest part down but it didn't really hurt) I was a lot more comfortable. i couldn't sleep in my bed for nearly 3 or 4 weeks post-op. (I learned about the recliner 10 years ago when I had a breast reduction. Many on a support site I found recommended it.) don't know what I'll do with this thing when life goes back to normal but for now, I'm grateful to have it.

    Help! I'm so stuck

I'm 56. I lost over 120lbs. Then this Genius surgeon screwed up said my band was blown. I gained weight, got laid off, went back to him, and was thrown out. It took 3 years, and I found another surgeon, and guess what, There is nothing wrong with the band ! He deflated it,and said it e\was blown. So I am starting all over again, and you can look at my turtle and see what I lost. It's not much, but it's a start I know that if we all hang in there, no matter how difficult your journey is. We all have a different story. Even though it's the same Band. I was banded 10/31/2006, and I have a long way to go all over again. So don't throw in the towel. Shirley.
  10. I have a few questions. I was an original sleeve patient in November of 2011. I had a severe stricture that was finally corrected with a bypass in August of 2012. I had lost 110 pounds. Scale finally kinda quit moving but ok with that I guess. I was at an ideal weight and had lost all "my girls"! LOL. My sweet husband agreed and paid for me to have a breast augumentation Thursday of last week. The scale gained almost 10 pounds. I know those silicone implants did not weigh 10 pounds. Help! What happened? I haven't felt real well or ate a whole lot since that surgery Thursday. Any idea where that weight came from ? How to get rid of it? I can't exercise for a week or so. Anyone else experienced this ? Help I'm struggling.

    Port-- is this normal?

My hubby and I had surgery one day apart back in 2008 and I remember him saying the same thing about his port tingling. It went away about 10 days post surgery. It wouldn't hurt to call the Dr. though - just in case. The pain started to go away about 10 days post-op as well. Hang in there.

    Swim suits

I ordered this from swimsuitsforall because their sale was ending and I couldnt find another company that made similar. I want something to cover my thighs because of chub rub and because my thighs are losing weight first and getting even saggier. Not sexy. Hopefully I can find better options in the future. Did your shoe size get smaller ?

I am sooooo excited... I love you all for giving me good news... I would love to go down a size. 10's are easier to find than 11's

Did your shoe size get smaller ?

This will be so interesting for me to see...I was telling my Dad the other day how many people experience their feet shrinking after weight loss and he said "well, it is probably because being overweight causes your arches to fall, and once the weight is gone, the arch returns to its "natural" state"...which was a buzzkill for me since I have had flat feet my entire life...so not sure I will be trading in my size 10s (which I've been since I was about 10 years old) for a smaller size...
  17. Haha...where in the world did I get Penny? Clearly I am losing my mind!!!! It probably won't be much of a vacation, but didn't plan on it being one either. My son is 10 months old, this will be the first time I leave him, period, since he was born. I am so glad to have met Teresa and you before going, just makes things a little easier I think.

    VSG ???

Hello, My weight on Nov 14, 2016 (the day of surgery) was 306. I am currently at 209 pounds and it's been 10 months since my sleeve surgery. Last month I lost almost 15 pounds. I am 5'7" and 46 years old. My doctor says he expects me to reach 160 pounds at around the 2 year mark. So I sould continue to lose weight even though the rate at which I lose it will slow. I am thrilled with the weight loss and if I didn't lose anymore, I would actually be okay with that.

    Hunger

From my personal experience: Background: Female; 5'11; start weight @ 349 Banded on 5/19/10 Current weight: 204 1st off I'm a food addict (recovering). I'm talking about constantly thinking about binge eating and always hungry. The band pretty much took away the physical hunger which encouraged my addiction. It doesn't "cure" head hunger or our behaviors, but it allows us to modify them considerably. I'm not hungry until it's been 5 hours since my previous meal and then my stomach will start to growl or sometimes I get edgy from being hungry (don't recommend waiting that long between meals). I usually plan 3 small, protien packed meals a day in which I each in 4 hour intervals. I've had some days where I try to eat more than my band allows because I'm still working on negative behaviors, but that's like maybe 1% of the time. The other 99% I follow my band rules and I feel awesome! I'm not hungry and my addiction isn't active. The band saved my life and has given me the opportunity to live as the real me! I wold do it again a million times over! I've read other posts where some people really struggle with their band. I'm not saying this has been easy, but by the grace of God, I've been successful and can't imagine it not continuing to work for me. Good luck and God Bless! Rebecca

    Banded and waiting!

Hi Elizabeth! Welcome to LBT! First I just want to say well done with the first 10 lbs! It is still a lose. Dont be to hard on yourself. If you have been exercising, you could have lost inches and gained muscle. So it is not that you havnt lost weight. Try messuring yourself as well... It may be just that. Also, I visit Scotland about every 18 months or so. Love it there. Please keep us posted with your progress, or if you ever just need support! Take Care!

    Gastric Bypass recovery

I am taking 4 wks in total but only bc my job is very physical. I am 10 days post op and if I had a desk job I could be back at work. I will say though that while I feel ok, I am glad to be home and on my own schedule to get the eating, timing, drinking, and exercise routine down pat.

    ABC - October 2007 chat

Well last week I went from exercising 3 days a week to 5 days a week. I actually tried a stairstepper today and was able to do 10 minutes on manual without breaking a sweat! In just 5 weeks I have moved from a 4 pound hand weight to an 8 pound handweight. I lost 5 pounds last month and then regained it when I put on muscle and then lost it again with the help of those muscles! I have finally lost a new pound - down to 171. However, in just 4 weeks of exercising for about 30 minutes a day I have lost a whole clothing size and I feel muscle for the first time. I am up to 100 situps without stopping. Feels really good. Last week I walked after dinner and I will do it again tonight. I am hoping by the end of October walk every night so that I get exercise in twice a day. The scale is moving slowly but the body is definitely changing. How are you doing???

    Nervous about procedure

Make a list pros and cons and really think about the benefits of the surgery and If u have any health problems that surgery will benefit you. I also backed out of surgery a year prior to my surgery. I had never had surgery and was scared to death about it an now even though I had gotten a leak and 1 surgery turned into 4 I highly regret that I didn't have my surgery sooner. It was the best decision I made. 10 months post op and down 92 pounds. Good luck
