  2. Hello guys I am back home and post surgery! I had my a lap band revision to gastric bypass on June 29. No visitors allowed but at least my surgery did not get cancelled. The first night was a drugged haze. I don’t remember much. The second day was awful. I could not take any pills or keep any water down. I kept throwing up or dry heaving. So, the doc kept me in the hospital a second night. The third day was good very little throwing up and i was really able to walk around the hospital floor a lot. I even did some work on the computer in the lounge which was awesome. The pain was pretty bad the first day post surgery. But by second day it was very mild. Today is my third post surgery and I feel no pain just a little discomfort when I bend down, twist or cough. Once home yesterday I started having some sore throat and coughing I remember feeling that in other surgeries so I think it is just from the anesthesia but if it does not improve I’ll contact my doctor. My only issue now is managing my type 1 diabetes. I have an insulin pump and all of my doses need to change and now I am having a few lows. But I keep my glucose tablets near and take one when I get below 70. I still have not had a bowel movement but I am hoping today will be the day.
  3. Hi everyone. I’m scheduled for a revision from the sleeve to RNY on July 17th due to Barrett’s Esophagus. I’m hoping to learn some things from your experiences and share some of mine also. To all those who just recently had surgery, I hope you are all doing well and have a great recovery! Im looking forward to the support that maybe we can all give to one another :)

    New and Nervous!

I had RNY gastric bypass surgery 31 months ago and I would recommend GB or sleeve over LB. I have encountered too many patients who had LB and later had to have a revision because of problems with LB. You might also start attending bariatric surgery support group meetings. Generally these are held once per month and are free. That will allow you to meet and talk with people who either are undergoing this process or have recently had surgery.

    February 2021 bypassers?

I was revised to mini gastric bypass on 2/23. I had to have it do to developing Barrett’s Esophagus from my sleeve which I had 12/20/15. This was the hardest surgery I have ever had. I am home one week as if today and finally feel human again. Looking for someone to share ideas, recipes, goals and ups and downs. Preferably someone who had surgery around same time as me.

    Two Weeks & Regret!

In my last post I see that the voice dictation didn't work that well is it said I did not lose any weight honestly that is not true, I lost 30 kg that could not lose any more and I needed to lose another 20, Hence why I went to a revision with bypass.

    DS reaction to sugar

No problems. Just want to make sure that I communicated that from what I have been told and personal experience there is no dumping syndrome with DS surgery. I did an experiment after my RNY to DS revision, I ate something that would have put me down garunteed for a half hour with dumping syndrome. Didn't happen. I don't miss dumping syndrome. For me it was like an intense flu that came on hard and fast. Sweating, nausea, the works. Lasted for me about half and hour to a hour depending on what I ate and how much. Now it just hurts to eat too much and the bowl thing is something I'm re-evaluating my diet and supplements to help with. If OP is experiencing something similar to dumping syndrome, then probably should go talk to the surgeon asap.

    My surgeon was just arrested!

I agree with you that it should not be a winner/loser type of thing. However, I've seen that happen and I think people need to understand what mindset their doctors come from. Its going to be getting you in for surgery. You haven't been far enough out yet. Its only 7 months for you. Wait until you hit the 2 year mark. Or even the 1 year. Its not a secret that there is not a lot of support for many in terms of that support like what you are talking about. Go to long term support groups and that's what you hear about. To be successful, the ones I know aren't in any specific program, they're more attached to the long term type of groups that are more online and the like. Either that or they get revisions. I'm also saying what I said because the surgeon, he stated that my anatomy is normal and there is nothing special about it. I can be treated just like any other patient. If that is true, that would be true for all sleeves. He goes against the ASMBS in that sense. One of the reasons why I say investigate your doctor. Had I known his outlook was this way, I would have thought differently. Its that far end, long term, look that you are looking at, that many people don't ask about. Its the surgery, its the big event. Its not what happens after when I've gotten regain. How many patients and what protocols do you do then. You don't see that advertised. You are right from terms of the persons' point of view, but the surgeon is not graded by the ASMBS for COE's in terms of how many people and how long people stay in a program. They are graded on # of surgeries done. As for satisfaction, again do you see any intro sessions that talk long term satisfaction? How they deal with complications 2 years out or more? No. Its the surgery. Medical ethics. If you allege a HIPAA violation and get your care dropped, and there are laws against retaliation, would you wonder about medical ethics? I sure would want to know if that situation came up. What about you all?
  11. I am a band to sleeve revision too! April 27 is my date. You've have done awesome! Gilly

    Anyone with leaks?

I had a revision from lapband to bypass last December and 3 weeks later had a leak. I was hospitalized for 49 days, on TPN, and horribly sick. Now, almost a year later, I’m finally starting to feel back to normal. I’m 3 pounds from my weight goal. Its been a really rough year. However, I really can’t say I regret it because I’m so happy with the results! Leaks are very rare, so yes it’s a possibility, but still very unlikely. Don’t worry, and I wish you the best of luck!

    September bypass buddies??

Hi I have a question why are u getting a revision I see a lot people get them and I was just curious of why what's not working that you need a revision
  16. I apologize in advance, and I thank those who post to avoid discussing my food choices, since I have exhausted that topic with severe dietary modification over the last five years, though I welcome any feedback on food choices you made and your results.... I am considering a sleeve to MBP revision, and I have questions about gas. Since I was sleeved, I have struggled with gas terribly, explosive when I lay down, but not overly offensive. I am concerned about any increase in this symptom, and I wonder if some members might share their experience. How often does this happen? Is it daily? What length of bypass (cm) did you receive in your surgery? My specific question is whether a decreased length of biliopancreatic limb bypass provides any relief. I only have 40 pounds more to lose, but I have a congenital form of arthritis that encourages me to lose it permanently. With this goal in mind, I am considering requesting a shorter length of bypass. Thank you for the collective wisdom on this.

    Anyone with leaks?

You may need to contact your insurance provider and ask what are their requirements for revision surgery. My doctor thought we would have a lot of issues getting approved but, we didn't. The process was quick and easy with approval on first try. Mr doctor just knew we would have to challenge the insurance company. We all was surprise when they approved me and we didn't have to put up a fight. They approved with the reason stating that the surgery was medically necessary. ScorpioC_RnY

    Anyone with leaks?

I don’t think leaks are a common issue with people that have had multiple bariatric surgeries. Instead, it sounds like it may be an issue with your surgeon’s practice. You may want to investigate further. I had revision surgery in July 2018 and have had 5 abdominal surgeries in my lifetime. My surgeon, who is one of the preeminent bariatric/GI surgeons in the U.S., did not tell me I was at increased risk for leaks. I have suffered no complications post-op.

    March 2019 sleepers

Hi all!! I was revised from VSG to RNY for severe GERD on 3/18. My pre-op diet weight was 251 and today it is 216.6. Weight loss has slowed and I’ve had a few stalls. Shark week sucks because I gain despite changing nothing. Slow and steady is better for my body but my mind doesn’t agree and that is a daily struggle. How are all the other VSG to RNY revisions doing?
  22. Rainydayz - just another wrinkle to throw at you - Gastric Plication surgery is very similar to the sleeve, only from what I understand it involves "folding" the excess stomach within and stitching it up into a "tube" so the end result is similar to the sleeve. There is no cutting away of the excess stomach and is potentially reversible. It is becoming more and more common as I know my surgeon is now doing this procedure. It is also done laproscopically and there are no "adjustments" like the band. Just a thought. I am a bandster and I love it - but if I have problems, I'm not really sure I would have another put in (and potentially have the same problems - not work like it did before, etc) or revise to GPS.

    March Surgery Dates

I am probably the grandma of the group. I am 60 and my grandson is 11 and my granddaughter is 9. Bought myself a bike a couple of years ago and then required a hip replacement and could not ride it. Turned out the hip did not heal well and I have been walking around with a loose rod in my leg for two years and it hurts. It was to have been revised on 10/26 and the cancelled it about an hour before I was to leave for the hospital as my surgeon and his partner were going to do it together at the smaller hospital, closer to me. It turned out that the hospital was simply not equipped for some things that are very likely to happen and it will be done at the big hospital across the state from me as soon as I heal well enough from the WLS. That is going to be a biggie and will haveme hobbling about on a walker for a long time. We go to music festivals in the summer and my goal is to be able to be without a walker and able to ride my bike. I had my husband put a basket on the front and folding side baskets over the back fender so I could use it to go to the local stores. Oh, and I see I even have a pink hat and a pink & purple horn.

    Anyone from Minnesota

Hello fellow Minnesotans! I live in the Twin Ports area and I am scheduled for my revision from lap band to sleeve on October 29th. Been steadily gaining weight since January despite not changing my eating habits or exercise routine. After several fills and unfills to check my fill levels, and a fluoroscopy in July, it was discovered that my band had sprung a leak and so will no longer hold fills. Went through the revision progress and I was approved on September 15th. Looking forward to surgery and being able to lose the 50lbs that I have gained. I will be having my surgery at Essentia Health in Duluth with Dr. Bettendorf.
