    My first fill

Wow, Gabby, you're doing great! I'm a little surprised your doctor agreed to fill you both so soon after surgery and while you're clearly losing weight at a rapid clip. Every doctor is different, I suppose. Good luck with the fill and congratulations on the great weight loss!! (OK...DUH! I just realized your band date was year ago. Now I'm going to ask why you waited so long to have a fill? Or was that a typo?)

  4. Hey there guys. Had my first fill of 5 cc's. I seem to be at a standstill now on weight loss. Is this common?
  5. Tomorrow is my big day!! Six months of supervised weight loss, and now - I'm on the last day of my pre-op diet!! I amazed myself with how much weight I've lost pre-op - 30 lbs, and am ready for surgery tomorrow! Tonight after work, I'll pack for the hospital, and hopefully get the call to let me know what time my surgery is! I'm praying it will be early!! A big thank you to everyone on this board that has helped me along the way! For those of you just starting out and are doing your research - this board is the best place to be! Everyone is so helpful, and will always offer you good advice! They did for me! Just wanted to give a shout out to everyone who's got a date with their surgeon tomorrow - the best of luck with your surgery!! And I'm wishing you all a speedy recovery!! Move over everyone! Because the July 2 Sleevers are about to join you on the loser's bench!!! Woo-hoo!!!

    My story

I'm so sorry for your loss! I had my surgery at 59 and I can identify with the recovery process. I had literally no pain and in fact after surgery I had to look to see if they had done it. However I have Liver Disease from autoimmune disorder. Recovery was especially hard . It took me the better part of 2 months to get back to normal without feeling like I just couldn't do another thing or walk another step. Fatigue which is part of the disease issue of mine was terrible in compounding it with surgery. But after my recovery, wow what a difference. I had energy that I had never had before and felt so good. I too want to see my grandkids get married, graduate college etc. I know both of us are doing this for the right reasons..

    Help!

Before I say anything, yes I went to my surgeon first, no I haven't been to my PCP since I went NPO and they blew out both my arms trying to get a blood draw and told me I should've drank lots of fluids, 2 side effects, 1 minor, 1 beginning to have a negative effect on me, I live in South Texas BTW. #1 I have a sneezing side effect almost every time I eat, and no it's before I even feel full, my nose gets runny and I sneeze uncontrollably, surgeon and dietician are at a loss since they've only seen it when people were full. #2 this one hurts, before surgery had trouble keeping warm, thought it was my circulation and obesity, was at 388lbs in January, now at 269lbs 10 months later, surgery was on June 10th I weighed 342.2lbs, now it's worse than ever, last night was our first major cold front here, 34 degrees( yes I know northerners lol) My last blood work showed everything good except vitamin D, took care of that blood pressure and circulation great, taking all my proteins and vitamins, and my nurse at work suggested B12 which I started taking 1 week ago, any suggestions or resources would help, don't mind the sneezing thingy and it's kind of funny but this regulating body temp has me hurting, I only slept 3 hours last night, and yes we had our central heat on, and I had a cover, but it's all day even at work, and I work out at the gym 3x a week and I'm more mobile than ever, help please.......

    By my calculations

I am not post surgery, and it REALLY helps to hear the struggels so I can wrap my head around them. I kinda think (hope) that it'll be like the pre-op preps. Seemed SO LONG at the start and so quick now that I have a surgery date. This time, I will not weigh myself often. I'll just 'do the stuff I need to do', and watch the belt loops... I can get too wrapped up in data. PS, I'd take a 4# loss a week for darned sure!!!

    By my calculations

I looked back over my online food tracker at my weight loss; by the time I set up my tracker I had already lost 24 lbs since surgery 5 weeks prior (20 of those lbs were in the first 2 weeks post-op btw), but I just now decided to look back at the bulk (ha ha) of my weight loss and calculate on average, how much weight I lost during my steadiest era of loss. in 13 weeks I lost 50 lbs which averages out to about 3.8 lbs a week, that was from the end of month 2 post-op to the start of month 6. It seems no matter what the F*** I do, no matter how morbidly obese, no matter how faithful and perfect a patient I am, I am one SLOW A$$ EFFING LOSER. -.- *cough* sorry about that, little peeved ... Even when I still weighed in the high 200's (260s), and was eating 600 calories a day with only 20g carbs, I STILL, was only losing a pound every couple of days. So, has anyone else done calculations like these? How much did you lose, which period post-op, and how much were you eating?
  10. Hi Guys, I just got home from my dinner. I told my friend and not only was she extremely supportive, I found out that she has had several family members and friends that have had some type of weight loss surgery. Some have had success and some haven't. She is going to put me in touch with 2 friends that live near me that had the surgery within the past 2 years and are doing well. I've only known her for a couple of years so she was kind of a test friend. I've told 2 out of 3 of my really close friends and they have been really supportive. I do tend to be really good at convincing people of things. I've been told more than once that I should have been a lawyer. I am good at stating my case. The other 2 friends that i told were against weight loss surgery in general until I explained why I wanted to have it and talked about the whole process and the procedure. Now they are on my side. I only have 1 other close friend to go. She is one that I am kind of worried about but now that I have so much other support, I actually don't care.

    A Positive Thought...

Half of the battle for successful weight loss surgery is a positive attitude, and you've got that covered. I really liked the line about no longer needing "a wall of flesh between me and the world" - very apropos. ????
  12. Congratulations on the loss! Wow! Isn't is crazy how long it takes to feel smaller? I just went through all of my clothes and tried EVERYTHING on. I had to get rid of lots of clothes that I was hanging on to. I was waiting to fit into 1/2 of my wardrobe, but now it is too big. I can't wait for my brachioplasty and 360 lift! I'm going for a consult in a couple of weeks! Let us know how it goes! That is super exciting! Banded 2010. Sleeved Dec 2016 122 lbs lost
  13. Thank you everyone! I received the email from Alma on preop- looks like I'm having to do it 10 days prior per bmi... Anyone do it for 14? What is your average loss for preop!??Wanted to get a jump start and start changing some habits earlier. Surgery 4/2 so not so far away...

    nervous

I am 65 yrs. old and weigh 375. Anyone in that bracket? The doctor said I need this to help alleviate other serious problems. He said I could die w/o the weight loss. Am I too old? I haven't seen a surgeon yet because my primary just told me. Any words of wisdom?

    nervous

CHF is really frightening. I remember my grandmother dealing with the end stages of both COPD and CHF. I was never close to her but her fear and turmoil was written all over her face. My grandmother was not overweight but she smoked all of her life - Marlboros. With significant weight loss, it may be possible to reverse the CHF. Either way, I am wishing you the best. I truly believe you've made a good decision.

    Fixing Posture

Does anyone have any ways to fix posture after weight loss? It's hard to not stand like I still have an additional 185 pounds on me, but I don't know how to fix it. I saw a physical therapist for a few weeks to strengthen my core to prevent back pain and I know that can also help with posture.
  18. No, I didn't feel like that. When I got home from the hospital I was gleeful I wasn't dead, didn't have a flesh eating disease, and wasn't in pain and didn't have to take pain meds. I really hate and have a fear of hospitals so getting in and out of one unharmed was a massive relief for me. I wasn't thinking about my weight loss, I was thinking I beat the grim reaper. However at 6 weeks I felt like I hadn't lost enough, I had lost 20lbs in a month before on low carb diets. I felt that I should have lost a lot more considering I barely eating. Then after 6 weeks I could eat more than starvation level calories, I started losing really fast. Don't focus on the negatives, focus on the positives. If you focus on the negatives and stress yourself out, the stress won't help your weight loss. Stay calm, relax and rest. the weight will come off.
  19. Hello Everyone, I recently had the sleeve on December 17,2016. This journey has been a long process. Initially my insurance required I do 6 months of documented weight-loss. Which I completed in September of 2016. However I was with True Results of Dallas weight-loss clinic which has now transition to the Nicholson clinic. Having the sleeve has been a struggle. My doctor has me on a clear liquid diet for 21 days . Hopefully when I go in on the 01/03/2017 I'll be cleared for pureed foods. Any suggestions other than Soups or broths or sugar free pops they give me acid reflux . Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App
  20. Hi, everyone! After waiting for over a year, I received notification of my first appointment to start the process for Lap Band surgery. It's been a long, long wait. Three years ago, I started the process for gastric bypass surgery but backed out after going through quite a few appointments because the risks scared the heck out of me. I also know of several people who have had gastric bypass and some have also had a host of gastro-intestinal issues. They all lost a great deal of weight, but some just aren't healthy anymore despite the weight loss. So I declined continuing towards that surgery. After discussing my finding with my doctor, she suggested the Lap Band and we started the process all over again. Finally! I have my first appointment scheduled for May 9th. A little about me - I'm a 45 years old, female, and work in the medical insurance field. I'm looking forward to meeting some people who are also waiting for the Lap Band or who have already gone through the process and are on their way to becoming "big losers." :Dancing_wub: See you on the forum.
  21. Therapy really helped me. It was a program specifically geared to compulsive overeating, and the therapist was a licensed dietician and hypnotherapist, as well as having gone through the program herself and maintaining her loss of 40 pounds. For me the regain of my self-esteem and the revelations and tools I was helped to develop to manage my emotional eating were invaluable - probably even more important to my well-being than the band itself (which I got 7-8 months after my therapy program ended). You can read some more in depth stuff about the kinds of things I learned here: A Tool for Dealing with Emotional Hunger I probably have more self-help books/videos/tapes than most libraries/book stores, but I find it VERY difficult to effect changes alone (I'm embarassed to admit that most of these books/videos/tapes have never been opened/used - kind of like all my exercise equipment... lol). I personally needed the accountability to, commitment to, and interaction with another person who could lead me from where I was and take me to where I wanted to go with my full participation. If you decide therapy is for you, I would highly encourage you to seek someone who specializes specifically in weight related issues. Good luck!

    stupid people

I think a lot of the problem has to do with technology but with a different twist. We really don't have to think anymore. We have others that are assigned to do our thinking for us. Or technology thinks for us. Okay, I can't spell worth a damn, never have been able to do it. I can do complicated algebra equations in my head but I struggle to spell little words. I don't have to learn to spell, I can use spell checker. Ask a kid how to do an algebra problem and he HAS to pull out his calculator. He can't do it on paper but he can do it with technology. Our employers are telling us what to do and how to behave 40+ hours a week, our religious leaders are telling us who to vote for and half the time, people don't even realize that. Political leaders create laws for us to follow because we can't behave on our own, hair dryer manufacturers have to put warnings on their product not to use it in a shower. Heck, even Mickey D's has to tell you not to put hot coffee between your legs because people are so damn stupid they'll do it. They even do it WITH the warnings. We SHOULD be taking advantage of technology and increasing our knowledge and instead we depend on it to do our thinking. It's spooky.

    How am I doing?

Michelle . . .you're doing great! It's different for everyone - and I went through almost 3 months of getting no where it seemed . . . so I just would have to start the next day all over and do my best. No matter what the loss . . . it is still a loss from where you were last year! My scale would have been up without this band - so I'm happy no matter what! Hang in there and keep up the great work! fifties and pre-op surgery support

Hi Hopeful One and Everyone else. I am 57 and am 3 weeks post op today. I feel GREAT!!!! The only issue I had was the gas in my chest and left shoulder the first week. After that went away it was like I never had anything done. To date I have lost 19lbs. I have not lost anything now in about a week because I have started excersising and started solid food yesterday. Have my first fill on April 29th and I haven't seen any signs of hair loss yet. I can sure tell when I am full or have eaten too much so I am being really careful. You will do great! BJ
