  1. When I started on a very low dose of antidepressant my appetite did diminish and I did lose some weight just because I wasn't craving food for comfort the way I had before the meds. In all honesty though it was something like 5 pounds. I am still on that very low dose over a year later and the effects are the same. It never wore off. I only do have the cravings when it's approaching that time of the month so it's more hormonal and less a means of self medicating. I really do think the meds help the seratonin so my brain isn't calling for some food that will boost it...if that makes sense. I think that you should pay attention to all of your body cues....if you don't have an appetite don't eat. My surgeon says that the band works by tricking the brain into thinking you have eaten more than you have....so if your brain thinks you are full perhaps it's working better than you think or the combination is just working well together. I wish you every bit of luck. You may just be on a temporary plateau but it is important to tell you doctor about all of your concerns. You sound perfectly reasonable with a well thought out set of questions that a professional should be able to help you with or explain better what is going on with your body. Very Best wishes in getting it all sorted out.
  2. Hi, I'm with Kaiser insurance (and somehow have been since I was born!) and I'm just starting my Lap Band process. Now, my BMI is 38.0, but because I'm 4'10" this much weight on such a short stature is considered severely obese. My question is; Will Kaiser automatically deny me because my BMI isn't at 40 or higher, or will they take my short stature and medical problems into account? Any information and helpful opinions would be greatly appreciated!

    Day 1 pre-op

This morning starts liquids and fruits only. I am starting a week earlier than needed so I can get the hang of it besides any extra weight lost is just an added benefit. Surgery date is 07/27/2008. Current weight - not known - my scales this morning won't read so either that means the battery is low or I am just too heavy for them to read. I will work on that. The # isn't that important to me right now so I am not concerned, it is more feeling good and noticing the difference myself. Right now I am retaining a ton of water. I think the weather heating up has made my body retain it, so drinking lots of water today to try and get it to release some. Plan of attack: Keep a list of things to do when I am hungry to distract me Investigate curves as possible exercise option

    Severe dehydration

So this is my reply from the doctor. "The first couple months after weight loss surgery can be fustrating for patients. Sometimes even if you eat the exact same thing 2 days in a row you may tolerate it the first time, but you may not tolerate it the next time. This can be frustrating and very confusing. It sounds like you prepared the pork perfectly (crock pot all day); but sometimes it still just doesn't work and there isn't always an explaination! Don't give up on trying new foods! These types of things will get better with more time. I would recommend to continue to really focus on getting more Water. Since you are having symptoms of dehydration it may even be more beneficial for you to focus more on your Fluid intake rather than your protien intake. We do worry about strictures about 6 wks after surgery, but most of the time patients feel like what ever they eat/drink just sits there and doesn't move. This usually causes pain, nausea and regular comiting. It doesn't sound like these symptoms pertain to you? I would focus on soft foods and liquids for the next couple days. You will feel better once you can increase your fluid intake." So I guess I keep trying. I did go to the store yesterday and get some 40 calorie no sugar added popsicles yesterday to increase fluid. I must say it tasted pretty good. Hope you are feeling better! 1 cup water in for the day only 7 to go!!!
  5. Are you sure that you're not just overeating to the point that you pb? If you are sure that's not the reason, then I agree with Harley Nana.... Go and get your band checked out... You might just have tightened up over time If all is well consider taking the following actions 1. have a few days on fluids, throwing up a lot can irritate you stoma and lead to further throwing up... it's a viscous circle. 2. keep a food diary for a couple of weeks, noting when you are throwing up and exactly what you are eating... It's not revolutionary, I know, but it may show you what you are/aren't doing that's hindering further fat reduction. Follow the bandster rules: SaggiJ, You do know what the bandster rules are regarding meals, don't you??? they are as follows... 1. No drink 30minutes before and 45 minutes after food 2. Eat good quality, solid food that will stay in your pouch and give you satisfaction. 3. Eat you Protein FIRST, then your vegetables.... then if you have room you can eat the carbohydrates!!!! If you eat the mash first, then you are asking for trouble in the weight loss stakes..... You also know that it's small bites.... no bigger than 10p piece then chew chew, chew!!! taking larger bites and swallowing them before they're well and truly mushed in your mouth, is asking for trouble, especially when you're tight! Success depends on following these rules and working with your band, not against it! Come on girl, you know what you should be doing!!! Taken from a previous post! Hope that this helps a bit! Hx
  6. let us know how you're getting on... Constant pb'ing is horrid, anti social and makes you feel :faint: Especially if you're no longer losing any weight! Good luck!
  7. Hi All Been a loooooong time since I was on here. I got banded Sept 06, and I've lost 30kg (probably more since I've been strength training a lot as well) Been about 3 months since I was last filled, and just recently I've been: a. throwing up quite regulalry b. not losing weight To help me get back on track, can anyone help remind me what a good days food should look like at this stage? Best BRD

    question on low calories

When first starting out I would only eat what I am comfortable with. Don't force yourself to eat more. Your weight loss will be more in the first few months and as you go along, you will be able to eat more calories and sometimes you wish you were eating less. I am 8 months post op and eating about 1000 cal and wish I could eat less. Don't rush it. Take the time to find out what your pouch likes and give it time to heal. You will run into stalls, but take your measurements now and you will find you are losing inches when you are not losing pounds.

    Cancelled Surgery :(

Oh, I am so sorry! Praying he finds a job soon and your weight loss journey continues as planned. Sometimes its hard to understand why our plans get interrupted, but most of the time we understand the reason once we've passed through the storm. Hopefully this is a short storm for you and your husband! Heck, who knows, maybe there is a better job right around the corner and it will have insurance benefits that will pay for surgery!! Hugs! 13. I had my second fill three days ago and I tried some regular food tonight. It was awesome! I hadn't had any restriction yet, but I ate about 3/4 c. food tonight and I was very satisfied, and it lasted for several hours. I even had chocolate in the cabinet that I could resist because my stomach said it was already happy. I did not have any problem with food getting stuck, but I was very, very cautious and chewed about a million times per bite. I just hope the restriction sticks, but even if it doesn't, I finally feel like the band is pulling its own weight. I feel a lot more inspired now to follow the diet better and amp up my exercise routine to start seeing some results.
  14. :wub:Hi out there, I am getting ready to have a lap band on jan 8th . i had a gastric bypass in 2004 and lost 50 lbs in about a year. since then i had 2 babies and kept some weight from each of them and i noticed it was creeping up again. my pre surgery heaviest weight was 245. i am almost back there and really frustrated, upset and feel like i failed myself. Has anyone had a lapband after gastric bypass?? ps i was surprised the insurance co. approved it.

How can I be a failure already?

I think everyone has given you great advice. I too get freaked out when I see I have lost less weight then I expected, but I am trying to teach myself otherwise. You need to think of it this way, so what if you "only lost two pounds", 2 lbs a week over the course of a year is 104 lbs. that's a lot of weight! Now obviously you are not going to lose at the same rate every week, but some weeks will be more then 2lbs, some will be less, but they will average out in the end.

    clots and filter

The filter is well worth it. Think of it as insurance, that you hope you never need. I think that's better than longterm blood thinners. My surgery became a no brainier. I could lose the weight, shoot, I've done it before. What I needed was a tool that would help me keep the weight off. To me, losing weight is just part of the process, keeping it off is my real goal. Tired of the Yoyo....

    7cc's........nada!!!!

i'd wait a week or two. personally, it has taken that long for me to feel a fill kick in. i've gone two weeks with barely any restriction and then on day 15, boom: i can barely eat 4-6oz of chicken. the band is indeed a strange mistress. fwiw, i've got a 14cc band too and now have 7ccs in. i was in a sweet spot at 6, but then it disappeared after about 6 weeks. i've got an appt for next week and am hoping for another .5 to 1cc. i've been losing and gaining the same 3lbs for nearly a month. grrr. good luck and check-in with your doctor soon. fyi: here's a really good thread on the 14cc band... http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/does-14cc-band-give-same-restriction-10cc-band-50248/

  25. This is a copy of the email I sent out to members of our support group for anyone who lurks on this board from our clinic: For patients of The Surgical Weight Loss Centre in Mississauga: Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of Spring! Just an early reminder that we will be having Tammy a beloved nurse at The Surgical Weight Loss Centre come out to speak with us as our guest speaker at our next meeting on Thursday, April 16th, at 7:30 pm, (doors open at 7:00 pm.,) Sue, one of our other wonderful nurses would of joined her but unfortunately will be out of town. I hope as many people as possible will come out to chat and ask questions of Tammy, I would appreciate if people could RSVP me up to 5 pm the day of the meeting so I can get an idea of the numbers to expect when I am configuring the room seating set up that night. We will be continuing with our ongoing clothing exchange, so feel free to bring items that no longer fit you and look through the lovely selection of items available. coffee and other refreshments continue to be available for purchase at the hot deli food counter on the main floor. For those who were not able to attend last month I will have available additional handouts on "Emotional Eating" I made up that was our topic last month. Please contact me for the location info if you don't already know it. I will be contacting Tammy with the types of questions and concerns pre-op and post-op bandsters have for her so feel free to email me anything you would like added to the list. This night will consist of a relaxed evening with Tammy open to addressing any of your queries so please come out and give and receive support! Hope to see many new and familiar faces including those who haven't been able to attend in awhile, we miss you! I will post an additional group reminder the week of the meeting but please circle this date on your calendar, thanks.
