    November 2022 surgery support!

I also tried the Panera Lonster Bisque and found it dId not sit well with my stomach. Over all though, i struggle getting all my fluids still. The random muscle near my main incision hurts a lot less than it did a few days ago. I am super itchy from healing. I weighed myself at 264, which is 19 lbs less than my starting weight but only 3 lbs less than my presurgery weight.
  2. Today is a day for everyone to celebrate themselves! Post one accomplishment, achievement, baby step, thing that made you happy! Toot your own horn and celebrate something no matter how big or small today! It can be weight loss, personal achievement, work achievement, walking in a store, going outside your comfort zone or whatever you want …. Here’s mine: I am finally down 10 lbs from surgery after my adventures and dropping fas (Saturday I was half a pound above surgery weight due to ivs etc), and one pound from loosing 100 this calendar year! I celebrate my body is healing, infection clearing snd all the fluid is leaving so I can smile at the fat loss finally showing up on the scale. your turn!
  3. Yeah, seems like post-op is all over the place depending upon the program. We all have different medical needs too so maybe there are some surgeons that require a different plan depending on height/weight/comorbities... Etc. for each of their patients. My surgeon wanted me on good carbs post op as soon as possible (fruits/vegs/whole grains, oat bran... Etc.) And of course, the typical general rules. Protein first to make sure I met that first. Lots of liquid in between, no drinking until 30 minutes after.
  4. Hi everyone, I'm having a really tough time dealing with my mother in law. There's no kicking her out, my husband won't because his other siblings won't take her in. (She tried to split up his brother with his new wife just after they had a baby, and his oldest sister has ended all contact with her) Part of the reason I did this surgery is to have a reason to say no to her feeding me/guilt tripping me to eat junk food. Before she moved in 5 years ago. I was 130lbs. I know it's 100% My responsibility what goes in my mouth, but over the years, she's made it so hard. I was done, defeated. After reaching out and getting therapy, they think cutter her off will be the only way to have long term weightloss success. She's not meant to do any shopping but she does, all she buys is junk food in the reduced section. She buys so much, she bought a massive freezer to store it all in. The worst part is that she has no idea of how calories work, so she thinks eating healthy food = will undo all the junk she ate, so in her mind by eating all of it, after a chocolate binge, she'll lose weight so she will eat all the meat and vege in the house (she's about 450lbs) and then guilt trips us because we didn't eat the 5 cakes, 6 packs of donuts she bought etc. I thought with this surgery I could just say "I can't eat those things, they could kill me" and maybe she would stop buying this much junk. Sadly no, she's going H.A.M at me now. She threw a tantrum when my husband told her I was getting the surgery, tried everything in her power to stop me from getting it done. Once I had it done, she started spreading rumors, said I spend $25000 on cosmetic surgery etc, she's just really making life hard for me, mentally and physically. She's also started eating my protein water, eating my Optifast, denying it. Then offering me things like donuts when I have no food in the house, which I can't eat, I had surgery 15 days ago, and shes refusing to acknowledge it. Instead she'll buy my favorite junk food and put it on display and keep telling me it needs to be eaten NOW. I found out a few days ago, the meals I make for my husband she keeps throwing in the bin to justify buying the junk, she said he throws them out because he hates them and he's a bad husband and I should leave him, I told him this and he said he'd never do that and that she's been saying him I'm useless and I'm not cooking for him and if he wanted she can ask me to leave. So she's clearly started trying to put us against each other, he said she used to do this to him and his siblings as kids and we just need to ignore what she says and tell each other, so we know what's going on. I'm just so exhausted, I can't keep living like this, I have to hide my food and I've started to think about the next stages, which are going to be so much harder to stop her from sabotaging. I just want to be able to meal prep and have a normal life but my husband has said, she can't buy a house until interest rates settle down, there's no rentals in the area and he can't kick her out because she will have nowhere to go, so we just have to put up with her until then. I just think I needed to rant about this but at the same time I'm just really tired and I just want to have a normal life. It feels like I'm probably going to be hiding optifast and just using that for meals until she's gone, because I can't trust anything in the kitchen.

New Here and Planning Surgery in October

A little late to this thread but I had my sleeve on 10/24 so I am just past the 3 week mark. The pre op diet sucked. The first couple of days wasn’t so bad as I drank a lot of water, broth, jello and protein shakes. However 48 hours before surgery I was told to stop the protein shakes. I immediately started feeling weak and had headaches from the lack of nutrition. It was the longest 2 days ever. After the surgery it was weird. I had some pain and nausea the first day or two but that went away thankfully. The weird part is I don’t really get hungry or thirsty. I’m eating soft foods now and can’t have more than a couple bites before I feel the fullness pressure. But I could absolutely not eat and be fine. I want to eat because I miss food, but physically I’m not getting signals that I need to eat. I’m also struggling with fluids because I can’t drink more than a small sip at a time so it takes a long to drink a single glass of water. Overall I’m doing well. I haven’t lost as much weight as I thought I would in the first few weeks but I’m not worried. I know my body is going through all the trauma of surgery and lack of calories that it’s got to work itself out. My clothes are fitting better though so I know something is happening.

New Surgeon Consult - SADI DS?

I was surprised when he brought up the DS. My previous surgeon hadn't. I was having enough trouble deciding between the GS and RNY, and now this. I'm still leaning strongly towards the RNY. And congrats on your weight loss as well! It's good to see people successfully on the other side of this experience.

New Surgeon Consult - SADI DS?

I agree with this. My head has been swirling with all the things I've read and experiences shared on this forum. It is a lot to take in. I think what makes this decision harder is that, unlike other surgeries I've had, it isn't quite like a doctor saying this is wrong with you and here is what needs to be done to fix it. This feels more like a choice when I'm deciding to have my insides rearranged (and by which method) and all that goes with it. This makes me feel like it's all on me, which I guess it mostly is. There is also always the little voice that says I might be able to do this without surgery. I'm smart enough to know that this would have worked long ago if I could do it, but it's still part of the mix. Thanks for your comments. You seem to have done very well with your own weight loss. I'm glad your DS worked for you.

    Gym

Thanks that's what I was originally asking I don't do that anymore. I would like to do walking alot more and maybe stretching that's probably the best with a workout program with no weights would yoga work because I know yoga would be light along with the stretching. Everyone on here are very supportive. This is exactly the kind of support I needed thanks again.

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

I start my pre-op diet in the morning. I am so ready to get this process underway. I am tired of this extra weight. I know I can do this. Feels strange to be telling others that I can't eat what they are eating. I carry water everywhere I go. Thanks giving, I am making the dressing/stuffing and two of the desserts. Never cooked without tasting what I was making. It will be an interesting experience. I feel like my thoughts are all over the place. (Nervous much?)
  11. I am 40, I've lost more than half my previous body weight (231 lbs to 109), and was carrying a LOT of weight in my chin. I almost looked like I had a goiter it was so bad. My skin tends to go in spells, I am essentially "done" actively losing weight and am in maintenance now, and I found that when I stalled my skin would catch back up, and then I'd lose more and it would look saggy. While I don't think I'm ever going to look as good as if I had never been fat, I'm hoping that now that I'm basically going to stay put, it will get to a point where I am no longer self conscious about it and won't need to have surgery. My belly, though...that's a different story, unfortunately. I look like a deflated balloon.

    Gym

Okay so another question I had to ask if I loved lifting five pound weights at the gym last year and working my cardio out on the treadmill would that work a little for my weight loss before I get surgery and when should I start if my surgery is in March or April. Thinking of walking more I try to get out of the house twice a day for now and I drink my premier protein drinks is this something to drink after the workout or during it if it's clear protein I have to get to do this so you think it would work I'm working on it so bad I got so much confidence and encouragement from my family and this support group and a very good best friend of mine.Even tho before I got 6,000 steps or more in if I walked all day with water and a small snack of fruit or veggies. I am so determined to get this surgery I write down everything now just wondering should I start going back to the gym because going on the treadmill makes me realize walking and a healthier lifestyle is better for me then what I did before. Day 7 concerns

yup stay off the scale... you will stop loosing weight for a bit throughout the journey. They are called stalls. typically at your 3rd week is where you hit your first one where you probably wont loose any weight for a couple weeks. Just stick to the program and it will come off

    Gastric bypass

I have to agree I accept others opinions I have very high confidence my surgery is gonna go fantastic. I know there's a lot of stuff we should not eat I stopped myself before I even knew about what kind of process I had to do I've been reading the blue book. I know after surgery to drink and sip on only once from a very small amount. It's kinda amazing how many men and women lost so much weight and kept it off especially keeping the will to work out five days a week. Sent from my TMAF035G using BariatricPal mobile app

    Day 7 concerns

Stop weighing yourself everyday. Try to cut back to once a week. Everyone fluctuates all the time, I can easily gain 5 lbs in a day and by the next morning it be completely gone plus some. Also, you will experience "stalls" at times. You won't loose weight and may even gain a couple lbs over a week or so. It also will pass. Just stay focused and follow your plan and you will loose weight. Best of luck to you!

    Day 7 concerns

So I’m worried today. I was losing weight everyday and now all of a sudden I haven’t lost a lb In 2 days. My wife says this is normal because she had the surgery. I’m getting discouraged but I’m following my dietitians advice.

    Gastric bypass

I had recently bought slim fast and I didn't know Amazon has all the stuff I need before my wieghtloss surgery. Slim fast isn't something that helps so I gave them to my sister.on Amazon I found the protein 2 o waters because my adopted sister is going through the same kind of thing only I think hers is the sleeve. I am so excited to be going through this journey because I waited 20 years for something to happen like this. I was once very skinny when I was a kid due to lots of health problems especially diabetes I gained alot of weight always hunger thirsty etc..I'm still training my brain to say no on certain things. It def works so far. I lost around 50 pounds since last year or was it forty pounds and I'm trying my best to loose it the diets working that im on I eat more veggies rather then candy. What are your thoughts on sugar free candy I think there are additives in it I cut those out as well.

    Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op

That's wild that your stall broke in 3 days of switching it up! Definitely going to break out the weights today! And thanks for the positive encouragement.

    Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op

My last stall was 4 weeks. I was also getting frustrated and stressed about it. I started tracking EVERYTHING I ate and drank (you'd be surprised what "healthy" drinks still have a lot of carbs and calories) and I added weight training to my exercise routine. 3 days later, my stall broke. This was on the advice of my nutritionist, and it worked. Track every single thing you consume and change up your exercise routine.

    Food Before and After Photos

Back through the history of this thread I started out posting my meal when I was in the weight loss phase, like a quarter sandwich, lol. Then I posted my dining out meals, from work travel. Then I posted the low carb meal preps I was doing primarily for my bf (cause my diet is anything but low carb!). Then early pandemic I was doing large scale meal prep for three different (but small) households, because of grocery scarcity, and the sudden end to my work travel gave me free time. But I burned out on cooking a while ago. Now I just post the occasional home cooked meal, or something special or fancy. Like @GreenTealael I don't post because how many times a week do people want to see a paper bowls with tater tots and season salt, or an 80% eaten McChicken 😂? This is what currently makes up a large % of my weekly diet (when I'm not in France 🥐🥖🍷) 😂
  21. Hello, I am Laura from London. It's been more than 7 months since my Gastric Sleeve operation in Turkey with Surgery TR. I chose Istanbul for my surgery, but they also offer me İzmir and Antalya too. The hospital was nice, and everything was so smooth. Nurses don't speak English however, there was a guy with me who speak English very well, and help me in all process. They gave me a personalized diet list and supplements before I return to London. They are still checking on me weekly and following my weight. There is personalized care because they know me well, they even know about my child and ask about him. We are like close friends now, I've send them to my pictures because I am so happy with my result and wanted to help the people who cannot lose weight after diets. I started with 20 stone 47 pounds but now I am 14 stone 33 pounds. Here is the contact number: +90 549 770 80 04. I am in contact with her now. You can ask all questions to me,

Weird Pain 2 weeks post op

I experienced a lot of weakness & sudden dizzy spells where my heart would start racing & flutter. It felt horrible but they went away! However mine went away because of a medication change. Turns out my dose was too high for my new weight. That may be good to take into consideration if you take medications. Its scary how easy that is to overlook
  23. qtdoll

    I'm clumsy

I dealt with that & I had low blood pressure. Turns out the medication I was taking was too high for new weight & it wasn't even a blood pressure medicine! Its good to go over those again w your Drs if you do take meds

    Postop

After multiple doses of Benadryl and getting home the itching is under control. I first experienced it way back in 2004. Just head to toe intractable itching. Never did figure out why and it flares up every now and again despite taking Zyrtec twice a day. I keep getting rashes under my breasts and panus. My BMI is only 33 and my blood sugar is normal (not diabetic). I plan to document it as much as possible so I build a case for Kaiser to pay for some future plastic surgeries. Do you have to reach your goal weight in order to qualify?
  25. Arabesque

    I'm clumsy

Don’t know if it’s vertigo as with vertigo, the room spins & you feel nauseous & it usually lasts for a while. (Even with meds, mine can knock me about fur a day or two.) It could be low blood pressure but equally likely that your centre of gravity has changed with your weight loss. You’ve been holding your body in a certain way to counter balance your weight & now you don’t need to as much. You may even notice aches & pains in your joints & muscles as your muscles, tendons & joints readjust to your new & better posture. I had upper back pain but new bras that actually fit helped with that a lot.
