  1. I had my surgery on 2/22/23 as well. I’m stuck at 29 lbs weight loss. I had a stall at 3 weeks and another stall at 6 weeks. It seems like I’m having stalls every 3 weeks. I’m starting to feel a little frustrated. I was considering trying to do the liquid diet for the next week to see what happens

    Any April Surgery Dates?

Same day, same feeling! Although I'm also stressed about this liquid diet and not losing enough weight pre-op - I need to step away from the scale, as it only shows 2 lbs lost in a week. I was hoping to lose 10 in pre-op stage.

    Calories 1 year post op

My weight loss is slow now. I am trying to expand my menu so lots of different foods with different calorific values. So it may be up and down on any given day but my average is about 1300 this week.
  5. Hello and welcome. You do sound as if you have this sorted. You have to do a week more than me, Cruelty overload. It will fly by though. I did a lot of house cleaning and it was useful because I was so busy after fitting in my water and protein into the new days. Onwards and downwards
  6. How is your calorie intake looking? I can't imagine you're able to eat too much early on but are you eating calorie dense foods? But this is most likley a stall. You absolutely want to stick to your plan from here on out as you will break it as long as you're staying commited. Remember, calories in, calories out will ALWAYS be true! & no, you did not ruin your surgery! A few off days will not cause you to stop losing forever. Just get back on track & take advantage of this honeymoon stage. Stay consistent!

    7 weeks post op

Oh yes, my longest stall was nearly 4 weeks & it happened early on in my journey. Its very much normal!
  8. I'm also 3 weeks out today and stalled on the first day of Phase 3 on day 17 after losing a total of 7.2lbs since surgery. I hope I'm lucky and it ends as quickly as yours. Reading your post and the support you got is helping.

I think you’re doing okay too. As for the exhaustion & lack of energy remember you’ve just had pretty major surgery. Imagine a 12 inch deep wound on your arm or leg & all the sutures & staples holding it together. Consider how you’d treat that wound gently & give it time to fully heal before doing too much. It’s the sane with this surgery. It’s going to take time to heal & your body is going to be putting energy into your healing & recovery. Listen to your body. If you have little energy or feel tired rest & take it easy. Pushing yourself too much may slow your recovery. We all recover in our own time. Some are back at work after a week. I took four weeks & then started a part time contract. I needed all those four weeks & more but I always seem to take longer to recover & heal from everything so it was expected. Maybe give your work a call & see if you can initially come back on reduced hours until you’re stronger.
  10. I'm really worried about failing and really worried about stretching my stomach out at this point. Does anyone have a ink or something that I can follow for meal prep ideas. And every meal is supposed to be 4 ounces total. Like 2 ounce meat, 1.5 ounce veggies, and .5 ounce starch? Or 3 ounce protein, 1 ounce veggies? I'm like freaking out over here and I'm kind feeling down about it. I don't want to fail!

    Elevated heart rate?

Yes, my resting heart rate went up at least 10 bpm the week or so after surgery and my Garmin watch showed I was highly stressed. But with the exception of a bad 24 hour stretch I had a good recovery and wasn't really in pain. Just my body doing its thing I guess. It's lower now at 5 weeks post-op than it was before surgery.
  12. I'm on day 3 of 28. I'm finding it ok so far. I'm allowed 3 meal replacements and 2 cups of veg each day. I'm not a shake drinker so so far I've had a Bioslim bar, veg soup and veg, veg soup and veg. I'm vegetarian so the veg is easy, I'll have to get creative to mix it up a bit. I'm getting the Optifast chocolate dessert to try instead of soup at night. Been eating 3 pickles at night at as a snack, getting lite jello today too. I'm weaning myself of Coke No Sugar too. Stay strong, we've got this!
  13. I had a hard time too after RNY and hernia repair. My team just had me focus on water and jello the first two weeks and do the protein shake as much as possible but don’t worry about it. Staying hydrated was their main concern. Early on, the protein shakes count as liquid too! Warm chicken bone broth was very comforting and a nice savory flavor. I put decaffeinated coffee in my chocolate shake to warm it and feel more normal in the morning.

    Food FOMO

I honestly had a good round of food funerals so when my pre-op diet started, I was more or less ready for it. 😂 Something that helped me is knowing that nothing is permanently off limits. Sure, the first couple months requires specific eating to help the stomach heal, but after that anything goes so long as you can keep it down. This is where the mental stuff comes in. Just because you can have it doesn’t mean you should or that it will help you achieve your goals. Im 4 weeks post op VSG today and my physical hunger is back. It’s not as crazy as it was, but I do feel hungry about 2x a day. It usually happens right when I’m due to eat. I envy people that never feel hungry again, but I’m learning what real hunger feels like vs mental and I’m thankful it’s not like it was (I’d get the shakes and feel like I was going to pass out). Good luck!! The days fly by and before you know it, you’ll be here on the other side 🌈

Hello and welcome. You are very wise not to weigh yourself everyday. The rate of weight lost is so stop start and stop again. If you have to go back to work then rest as much as you can around the work times. Snooze if you can, whenever you can. Leave the housework until next month, ignore it. Your first week back will be hard. Pack lots of little snack packs and lots of drinks.

Stalls happen. I would stall out for 2-4 weeks. Since Nov, I've only lost 4 pounds (but I'm on steroids, so lucky to lose any!) Just stick with the program and like someone said, trust the process. Don't weight yourself as often. Mindful eating. You got this!

    Food FOMO

I think the hardest "diet" part of this whole experience was the first several days of my preop diet (I was full liquids for 1 week and then clear fluids for 1 week). It was hard psychologically because, like you, I was thinking too much about what I was missing. My surgery was right during the holidays so I was extra in my head about "treats". There was also the emotion of "this is really happening" and it was a little scary for me. Physically, my first few preop diet days were punctuated by headache and anger (hangry). After that, I got used to it and the rest was mostly smooth sailing. My advice is to take it day by day, hour by hour, or minute by minute, if you have to. Know that it does get better and that after surgery, you most likely will not want the things you are thinking you will miss, at least for a while. Do be prepared for the weirdness of not being hungry, ever, after surgery. One of the strangest things I've ever experienced. So, take the pre-op time to establish a better eating schedule that follows your post op plan, if you can. I am still trying to get this part down 3.5 months post surgery. I know you will do well! You are here asking questions, and participating. This shows me that that you want to do well and will do what it takes!

    7 weeks post op

I am 7 weeks today. I have lost 23.2 since surgery, 31.6 total. I weigh myself weekly, the last 2 weeks it has been 1.8 a week. Slow but steady. If you lost a lot in the beginning, it's exciting, then disappointing when it slows, but totally normal. My Dr. recommends only weighing once a month. Make sure you are getting enough protein. Your starting weight, age, gender and metabalism are all things that affect your rate of loss that you can't control. These last 7 weeks have seen a lot of adjustments to our body, from surgery, then progressing from liquids, purees, soft to "regular" food. I can eat quite a bit of pureed, liquidy type foods, but much less eating more solid food, so I'm sure that will make a difference. I remember one past diet I was on, it was super structured, and I was consistent with exercise and food. I lost 3 pounds every 3 weeks. Not one pound a week, but nothing, nothing, then bam, 3 pounds without doing anything different.

    New Set Point?

Thanks @catwoman7. Is there science behind the 2-3 year rebound or is it a case of "backsliding" on the post-op diet/lifestyle?
  20. LindsayT

    Food FOMO

Oh man. I can only imagine. Is yours full liquid? I can have some solid foods, but it limited to 3 oz lean protein, certain vegetables and fruits, and a carb limit. I can't remember the specifics at the moment. So it's basically 2 protein shakes and a limited dinner. I can have all the sugar free jello I want, so there is that 🤣
  21. Could any of you share the amount of weight you lost during the 2 week pre-op liquid diet? I’m curious because I’d started eating must healthier once I had my first consult with surgeon and dropped about 14 lbs leading up to my liquid pre-op diet over the course of 3 months…slow but steady. What happens if you fall below the 40 BMI requirement for insurance? I didn’t think to ask the nurse/dietitian when I went in for my work-up. On day 2 of pre-op diet now and think I’ll never want the taste of real chocolate again after this.
  22. I am on full liquids. I am doing like 3 shakes a day, yogurt, pudding, jello (all sugar free). Of course adding in the water, gatorade zero, and crystal light. No caffeine either-that has added to my fatigue too. I did try some broth yesterday to try and get used to it for post op and its not my favorite by far. I keep hearing that the second week is better. Hoping this is true. Are you having the sleeve?
  23. bunchy-lunch: texas chilli with rice, parmesan shavings, focaccia and pesto labneh (again, lol) 416 calories for all of what is shown. ate *almost* all of it...left about 1/3 the chilli & rice and one if the focaccia pieces, but someone ate it before i could take an "after" picture....

    New here!

as far as losing 7 lbs in two weeks, that's actually pretty normal. I know a lot of people think we should be losing 30+ lbs the first month, but that's thanks to shows like "My 600 lb Life". Keep in mind that the people on that show start out MUCH heavier than most of us, so that kind of loss would be very unusual in more "normal" WLS patients. Most of us seem to lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month - and given that you started out at a lower weight than a lot of us, I would expect you'll be somewhere on the lower end of that range by month's end. I lost 16 lbs the first month, and I started out MUCH heavier than you (and starting BMI is one of the factors that affects your rate of weight loss - or at least early on). As long as you follow your plan and your overall trend is downward, despite the occasionally fluctuation or stall, you're golden. In the end, your success will be due to how compliant you are to the plan - not how fast or slow the weight comes off.

    New Set Point?

it does create a new set point, but keep in mind that that set point may be a bit higher than you are now. Lots of us gain 10-20 lbs after hitting our lowest weight - usually in years 2 or 3 - before stabilizing. Of course, you can always lose that rebound (if you experience it - again, most do - although it's not inevitable), but if your new set point is where you ended up after the 10-20 lb rebound, then it will be a real challenge to get back down to your lowest weight - and keep it there. Hopefully, where you are now IS your new set point...if so, it shouldn't be too difficult to maintain as long as you monitor yourself.
