Doing great. Down 40 pounds. Since Im a revision.. weight loss a little slower but all is well

    Portion size

At almost 5 years out I still measure my food at home. I never go over 4 oz because it makes me too full. If I venture over 3.5 for too long I start putting on weight. I find that doing 5 3 oz meals a day is best for my weight control. This is also my surgeon’s instructions.
  3. I had the same thing, acid reflux terribly, weight gain just all around miserable. I had had the roux-n-y 15 years ago. I had called to check into the revision surgery and the first thing they did was an upper barium test. Low and behold I have a 2 1/2 cm fistula attaching my pouch to my remnant stomach. At that point, it became a repair of a complication instead of a revision. My surgery is coming up and I am so excited. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I followed my plan. It was tough going at times, but I did follow it. You'll be eating more-or-less normally again at some point (albeit smaller portions than you were pre-op), it's just these first few weeks and months that can be challenging. I toughed it out. I was tired of being morbidly obese and just wanted the weight GONE!

    November 2022 surgery support!

Pain is good, yesterday and today no pain killers. I did figure the pain I feel when i cough may be to an internal stich or muscle since its between 2 stiches. Getting in and out of bed is easier just some pressure when I get up. I started working today, since I work from home and no discomfort so far. The issue is sleeping on my back, I'm a side sleeper so sleeping on one position all night is affecting my left leg, gets numbs and I get some sciatica pain. I can see me trying to sleep on my side soon. I haven't weight myself yet, waiting for Wed that is my 1st week follow up, I will expect some of the inflammation to be down by then. Attach is an average chart of what we should be losing. Personally, I'm not stressing about it since I lost 20 lbs this month and if following the program things should be moving along. OIP.jfif

    Not feeling my restriction

Yes, once you feel that tightness - that's your restriction. Meals should not take more than 30 minutes to consume and not be more than 2 ounces in portion. I was forcing myself to eat a full cup of yogurt around 3 weeks because I was trying to get all my protein in and my nutritionist strongly advised that was way too much (a cup of yogurt is typically about 5 oz) But you lose the most weight in the beginning and also don't have that hungry feeling so take advantage of it! Stay disciplined through the beginning and it will pay off! The first 4 weeks is the hardest but it gets better! Good luck!

    September surgery buddies!!

I have been good and trying not to weigh myself every day but today I got on the scale after 4 days of not looking and my weight did not go down, it actually went up .2. I just got done with a 3 week stall 2 weeks ago and mentally I am having a really hard time dealing with possibly being in another one. Its so hard to stay positive when you work hard to do everything as right as you can and then it feels like you are failing. I can't just stay off the scale because I need to know if I'm in a stall so I can at least try things to help but being in a stall is the worst thing ever. I have been hitting all of my goals, have increased my exercise a little bit, not drastically. As in I walk 30 min instead of 24 on the treadmill. I have been trying to do my strength exercises, but not with any actual weights, just my own arms. So its not likely to be an exercise and muscle gain equaling me out. I have been on the low end of my water and calories so I'll increase both but honestly if I was just on a regular diet right now, I would just give up. I'm glad I can't give up really, so I'm appreciative of the surgery but still sad.
  8. Hi Ljthatguy, Sorry you're having incision issues, I hope that clears up soon. I had my lapband removed in March 2022 with hiatal hernia repair as well. The gastric bypass feels totally different from the lapband, I have never felt any restriction in the same way. I never get stuck anymore it's more that my new tiny stomach gets full very quickly. That limits the amount I can eat. When I got to solids I was told to eat 2 oz (one large egg size) and, while that sounds like a very little amount it was enough. I was barely hungry the first month or so. I'm now eating more than my allotted 4 oz and my weight loss has stopped for that reason so it's not easy to stay on course and I need to get to the mindset of trying to eat as little as possible instead of seeing how much I can eat. Hang in there, I know you can do this!
  9. I know exactly how you feel. I had surgery March 9 of 2021 and I am sure I have something going on with my hormones too as I stopped losing and started gaining. I have an appointment with the endocrinologist December 6th and can’t wait to figure out what is going on and hope there is something they can do. I have seen people with PCOS really struggle and it seems so unfair. Try to celebrate what you have lost though and that you have kept it off. Every little bit makes you that much healthier. Keep talking to your doctors. There are medications and stuff you can try that may give you the extra edge you need. I know how discouraging it can be to compare yourself to others who are doing better but try to just look at where you were pre surgery and don’t give up.
  10. I understand PCOS can make your weight loss a longer & more challenging journey. So you’re carrying an extra hindrance to what your trying to achieve. Doesn’t mean you are or will fail. What dues your surgeon say? Do you still see your dietician? Do you still measure & track what you’re eating? Are you having regular blood tests to ensure you’re not lacking anything? Are you still losing weight even if it’s very slowly? Sorry for all the questions but it does help us offer suggestions & to share common experiences. Don’t give up.

Advice needed: How to do Thanksgiving

I ate whatever I wanted, just in small quantities - successfully made it through leftovers without gaining weight. Even had pie
  12. Really good for those of us earlier in our weight loss journey to hear your story - thank you. Would it be possible for you to fill out your stats? I had no regrets at any stage but I guess that's just different experiences - ditto for hair loss!

    3rd and 4th week stall

Don't worry. We do not lose weight in a linear fashion. If you're sticking to your programme then you WILL lose - you cannot not lose. Everyone here has had stalls big and small, long and short - they are part and parcel of a weight loss journey. I know they are hard but they will surely shift. Enjoy your journey - it's so very worth it.
  14. I had the gastric Sleeve surgery almost 2 years ago … was 260 and now about 160 … lowest weight 155. 1. You will have regrets within 6 months of surgery for emotional reasons like not soothing yourself with food - you will need to break up with food and see it only has a way to keep u alive and once in a while eat something really good but only have a little or u will pay dearly in nausea and pain. U will start Turing to food with more flavor because u can only eat so much so u will want to enjoy it. Naturally thin people do not look to food a friend. 2. Start weight training as soon as u are ready - I started 1.5 months after surgery. I got a personal trainer because I’ve always been afraid of the gym but I was more afraid of loose skin. Although I do have some loose skin I’m in my 40’s - I look pretty good for loosing 100 pounds. I didn’t start cardio until after I lost most of my weight because I feel like I eat more with cardio. 3. If you start loosing your hair - don’t panic. I had my entire hand filled with hair for several weeks of showering. I thought I was going to die. It started 4 months from surgery. As a fat women - I ALWAYS had awesome hair so loosing it was HARD. I paid a lot of money for different fixes but it probably wasn’t worth anything. It slowed down and after a year and a half - it’s better - not back to 100% but I’m a good 90% normal. Try to embrace it and maybe cut it off to start a new you. 4. Would I do it again? HELL YES! Is it hard, yes. You can no longer count on food as a friend. You cannot eat and drink at the same time (makes me feel sick). I miss taking advil when I had live a pain. You have to watch your alcohol intake. If you over eat - u will pay and u want to die. However, I no longer will like I embarrass my family with my size, I can ride on rides at any amusement parks, I can climb stairs without stopping, I am seen by people without the look of pity, i don’t feel uncomfortable all the time, the list could go on for hours. You start a whole new chapter of your life. Best of luck

    November 2022 surgery support!

I will look him up for sure! Thank you for sharing. Hormones & metabolic cycles have always been my Achilles heel. The growling & violently empty feeling are much better today. The postop fluid is also coming off thank goodness. I have pitting sacral edema so I know I’m still holding some. I’m 3lbs down from surgery day weight. Do you know when the loss should pick up? And how are you feeling? How is your pain?
  16. Yes . It is harder then I thought it would be to change that habit of late night eating. So I now have resolved myself to saving about 200 calories to my late night snacking. I have also returned to making sugar free jello and having that as a snack or having a banana . I have also reduced my portions to 250- 300 g . It was eating puree just so I could eat larger portions. While also not pureeing my foods anymore. It is helping and starting to embrace and modify my old habit. Work with it and not let it become my burdin. Also this week I am now back to loosing weight again. I'm entering my 10 week post op. Pre op 2 week before 265bls Surgery day 250 lbs Current weight 225 lbs That's 40 lbs. In 21/2 months and I am happy and healthier and looking forward to continue on my journey to better health and weight loss .

    Liquid diet

I had a similar experience. Lost all the weight I had to & more, followed all the rules, kept up w the weight loss in between appointments & only had to do 2 full days of the liquid diet. Following the rules pays off!
  20. Hey yall, I had vsg on Halloween. Lost weight fairly easily the first 3 weeks. But that 3rd week and now the 4th week the scale has not moved. I know from what I read it is normal but it's been 2 weeks now and I am worried. I have tried different things to restart it like okay maybe I need to count every thing that I eat and did that then, okay maybe I need to eat more so my body will stop freaking out and tried that. However, nothing worked haha. I am getting all required protein and water and keep it low carb. I was eating like 250 calories and day then bumped it up to around 500 for a couple days. And when I added more carb still nothing happened. So, today I decided I'd try to walk for 30 mins which I did. Hoping the scale moves. Any suggestions?!!! I really want to succeed...

    November 2022 surgery support!

Hey y’all, this is my first post. I had the sleeve on 11/21 & it’s been bumpy. Surgical pain was really bad, which surprised me. I didn’t expect to be pain free but I certainly wasn’t expecting what I got! I ended up needing 2 units of blood & a cardiac consult before I left bc my pulse was so high. They decided it was due to low h & h and uncontrolled pain. They have pumped me completely FULL of IVF. I came home 14 lbs heavier than I went in! I’m 5 days post op & have just now reached my surgery weight. My big issue is that I’m hungry. Stomach growling & roiling churning hungry. So weird. I was not expecting this at all. For full disclosure purposes, I cheated pretty badly on my preop clears. Like BADLY. Do you think I ruined it? That I will never lose my hunger, or just that my hormones need to level out? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Looking for folks to follow and build with who are o a similar surgery timeline. I’m getting the sleeve on December 5. Let me know if you’d scheduled similarly and would like to share experiences and support here. Please feel free to introduce yourself in the comments. I’ve included my own intro below. ABOUT ME: I’m Sarah, a 40yo woman from nyc. I have a senior level professional job as a consultant and work from home most days of the week. I hate failing and I think that’s why weight has been such a hindrance for me, it’s feels like a personal failure. Im pretty active and close my Apple Watch rings most days. I love to swim and do swim laps 30-60 minutes/day - 4-5/days a week. Outside of swimming I love to read, wander the hiking trails in Central Park, volunteer for campaigns and causes I care about, writing, and travel anywhere are everywhere in spite of dreaded airline seats :) My WLS decision: I’ve been overweight most of my life but for a few years after a prior 120lb weight loss associated with disordered eating about 10 years ago. Needless to say most of that weight was gained back in recovery and then some yo-yoing down 50 and up 60 every other year to follow. I imagine many of you can relate to this story. Though I’ve thought about wls surgery for sometime my blood panels and other levels were still in healthy range only my weight was an outlier. But then COVID came and especially terrified me - I was scared if I caught it I would be at risk to lose my life. I made efforts on my own to lose weight and like past attempts I shed 50lbs and was really good for 6 months but then something happens at work and I prioritize that above myself and before I know it I’ve gains it back. This last year I found myself of the gain side of the yo-yo and for the first time being afraid to sit in some chairs, after break a plastic deck chair. I noticed I was keeping myself in bc I was disgusted with myself, holding myself back from dating, from living, and carrying myself with little confidence, with little to look forward to. The tipping point: I went to my nieces dance recital and could barely squeeze into the auditorium seat. I needed to make a permanent change. Two months later I had my first consult for surgery and here I am ready Dec 5 surgery.
  23. I think therapy will definitely be an important supportive service I should layer on after surgery. Similarly I lost a lot of weight about 10 years ago and my goal is to be about 15 lbs less than that, I was single then as I am now and I think that my experiences then was where some of this is stemming from.
  24. I started therapy about a month and a half or two months before surgery. Most of my fears were about complications, not so much about relationships. I once lost a lot of weight, about 5 or 6 years ago. So, I know that my marriage can handle me being thinner and eating differently. My goal is to be about 30 pounds smaller than I was at that point, but I'm not worried about my relationship. As far as attention from men, it's not really something I'm exposed to, very much. I don't really go anywhere where men can approach me - unless they do it at the grocery store or post office. In which case I can just say, "Thank you. I'm flattered, but I'm married." But, I'm sure I won't look like a good target, anyway - even after I lose weight. I dress very, very modestly. In my profile picture, I'm wearing a pajama shirt that is probably more skin than you'll see of me in public - that and my lower arms. I mostly wear t-shirts and ankle-length skirts when I leave the house. I also cover my hair. There are so many other ladies out there, to take a man's attention - he likely won't want to waste his time looking at me. And that's the way I like it.
  25. This weekend my nerves are in hyperdrive ahead of my Dec 5th sleeve surgery. While you might think it’s surgery itself or pain or resulting restriction that might be making me nervous the root of my nerves is more psychological. I’m nervous about losing a part of myself, how my relationships might change, and to some degree not having my weight as a protective shield that despite all its faults seems to do a good job of repelling assholes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still excited for the surgery and know it’s the right step for me, and will help be become more healthful and confident, but curious if anyone else is worrying about similar things.
