So, to me, that does seem like it's a bit more than one would expect from an immediate post-op diet. That said, I only have my own experiences from which to speak and if this is the diet that your doctor prescribed, then they may have a reason. For comparison, here is the diet I am on currently (I hit 10 weeks post-op tomorrow), which is not really standard for most programs that I've seen: 2 times a week: Breakfast - 9am - 2 scoops of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (185 calories) Lunch - 1pm - 1 scoop of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (115 calories) Snack - 4pm - 1 protein bar (18-20g of protein -Think, Pure Protein, or Built Bar) (160-230 calories) Dinner - 7pm - 1 protein bar (18-20g of protein -Think, Pure Protein, or Built Bar) (160-230 calories) 60+ ounces of water (usually Crystal Light) (40 calories if all Crystal Light) 1 time a week: Breakfast - 9am - 2 scoops of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (185 calories) Lunch - 1pm - 1 scoop of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (115 calories) Snack - 4pm - 1 bottle of Premiere Protein protein water (20g of protein in 16.9 ounces of fluids) (90 calories) Dinner - 7pm - 1 protein bar (18-20g of protein -Think, Pure Protein, or Built Bar) (160-230 calories) 4 times a week: (up from 3x/week as of this week) Breakfast - 9am - 2 scoops of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (185 calories) Lunch - 1pm - 1 scoops of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (115 calories) Snack - 4pm - 1 protein bar (18-20g of protein -Think, Pure Protein, or Built Bar) (160-230 calories) Dinner - 7pm - 3-4.oz of allowable soft foods (I've had ground chicken, ground turkey, pureed chicken salad made with hummus & greek yogurt, ricotta bake, baked/steamed whitefish, scrambled eggs) (210 - 250 calories) So I think there would be room to make adjustments to your diet plan, as long as you would still be hitting your protein goals, but that is definitely a conversation you would want to have with your doctor. Simply be upfront with them about your concerns about the slow weight loss and ask for guidance on how to make changes to your diet plan to facilitate better results. Some times you have to make those changes to the diet plan in order to keep your body on it's toes!

I like Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. I usually buy vanilla, but they make plain, too. Post-op, it is really hard to get enough protein, so I mix protein powder into my yogurt. I like the vanilla yogurt with chocolate protein powder and powdered peanut butter. That may be too sweet for your taste (since there is also sweetener in protein powder), but you could try it with the plain yogurt.

Months before surgery then one month after surgery, I found Walmart's Great Value nonfat yogurts to be very satisfying. I have at least one per day. They have a little fruit stirred in and do have a little sugar. I'm a picky eater. I tried plain yogurt but would rather not eat than have plain or greek yogurt.
-
I love yogurt and have tried close to every brand out there. My favorite is Two Good yogurt. They are only 80 calories per cup, 2 grams of sugar, and 12 grams of protein so they are very filling. They are not as sweet as Chobani and not as bitter as plain non-fat Greek yogurt. Its a nice in-between. I highly recommend you check it out. https://www.twogoodyogurt.com/lower-sugar-yogurt/

LOL I'm hugely picky as well. I'm fine with the nonfat yogurts, but this sugar-free stuff is 🤢 I just am not sure I should be eating the kind with actual sugar. I'll talk to the dietician.

Many have trouble with eggs. Try some cottage cheese, yogurt, refried Beans with cheese. Small tiny bites - and slow. I ate a little too much for lunch today and wanted to die.

Best food for grazing !
Kindle replied to johnsydney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually don't have time for breakfast and I don't get a lunch break, so I basically graze all day until my first meal in the evening. My go to's are mixed nuts with craisins (sorry Bufflehead, but I eat tons of nuts), beef and turkey Jerky (very filling), Protein smoothies, protein bars, raw veggies with cheese dip (Asiago artichoke is my favorite), popcorn, apples with Peanut Butter (I used PB2 until I reached goal), Plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein Powder, and cheese and bagel crips. If I'm feeling like a snack but I know I'm not really hungry, I make myself drink at least 16oz of Water first. By then I'm usually over the snack cravings. -

MAJOR regrets
LindafromFlorida replied to MorganO87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband and I researched WLS 10 years. We knew what to expect, what the risks were, and what our risks were if we had not had the surgery. I hope anyone who has not had surgery yet makes sure they can handle this. It is not for everyone. We both had hernias. We both were prepared not to eat pizza and french fries the rest of our lives. We gave up cola and alcohol. We are smiling at each other today, over 4 months later, because the sleeve surgery has exceeded our expectations. I am so sorry for anyone who has had these extreme problems, but I have also seen threads where someone is very sick and in two days they post how much better they are feeling or had an issue resolved by their surgeon. I would do everything in my power to follow strict eating and drinking guidelines, even if it meant eating yogurt 3 times a day because nothing is worse than being ill. WLS is not for everyone. You will still want pizza. If you are depressed you will still be depressed. If you drink and party, you will still want to drink and party. I wish better days for everyone who is feeling sick. pre opers please consider
Escape_Pod replied to Mastiff_mama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a quick reminder that what you like pre-op and what you like post-op may be COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, so it's a good idea not to stock up. And if you find something doesn't agree with you post-op, give it time. I went through phases - lots of nectar in the early months, moved to morning protein hot cocoa in the later months, now I occasionally use other flavors to blend with greek yogurt, or with ice to make into a smoothie, or with tofu to make into a pudding. I haven't touched the nectar in a LONG time. Another site to try is Vitalady - she creates sample packets from all sorts of different brands. And be aware that some shops like GNC will let you return a product you don't like, so that can be a good place to shop post-op. -
Hi ladies . I was banded in April 2013 and have lost 110 pounds so far. I'm 36 years old, female, starting weight of 326, 5'11 tall. I am far from an expert, but here are a few things that have worked for me: - Warm liquids first thing EVERY morning (I drink plain hot tea. Anything with milk is too thick right away in the morning) - Protein shake mid morning. I can't have a shake any earlier than about 10am or it won't go down well. My band is snug every morning, but loosens throughout the day. - lunch around 1-2pm. I try to have a Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese stick, deli meat. ... something along those lines. I only have about 3/4 c. TOTAL of anything for lunch. The only carby thing I may have is crackers with my cheese (maybe 5 crackers total) or a small fruit cup. - dinner around 6pm. I eat anything I'm in the mood for, with the concentration on protein of some sort. I only eat 1 c. MAX at dinner. If I'm taking small bites and eating slowly I will feel completely satisfied from 1 c. or less. - I try really hard not to snack. Sometimes I fail, but I have definitely learned not to eat anything after about 8pm. I will be uncomfortable and have indigestion if I eat shortly before I lay down. None of this has been easy. I have fallen off the wagon several times, but I think I'm in a great place right now. I do think I've reached the green zone. I've been filled maybe 8 times or so in the last 14 months (I'm guessing but I think that's about right). I was too tight once so they took out a smidgen and I was much better. I've since had that fill put back in and a little bit more and I'm doing great. I know how frustrating it can be to not have your band telling you when you've had enough. Just try your best to follow your Dr's food guidelines in the mean time. I use My Fitness Pal on my phone EVERY DAY to record my food intake. I don't want to underestimate the calories I eat and I want to track my protein to be sure I'm getting enough. Also, I want to have a legit record of my eating in case my Dr wants to look it over. Good luck and don't give up! I hope you both see the weight come off steadily!

Protein HELP!
Yvette1026 replied to NewYearNewMe2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a not a matter of which is best, it's a matter of what you prefer. I personally use whey Protein, make shakes out of it in different flavors. You can also make pudding, etc.. there's also some products out thre like Isopure or "whey up" that give you 20-40 grams of protein in every bottle. Greek yogurt is low in sugar and HIGH in protein, usually 20 grams in a serving. I mix greek yogurt into things like Jello, etc.. to add a lil' protein to everything I eat. Before your surgery I would suggest upping your protein, I for example ate chicken breasts and protein style cheese burgers (cheeseburger without the bun or mayo, etc) then I fasted the two days before surgery drinking only whey protein. I had surgery on friday and was off pain meds and back to normal by sunday. Every body is different, it's important that you listen to yours. Mine craves red meat, so I made sure I gave it what it needed to promote healing, etc.. pay attention to what your body is telling you and you should be ok. Also what is your pre-op diet like? does it allow you to have food and not just liquids? every dr is different. I was allowed 3 shakes and 2 meals per day, with an option for a snack during my pre-op diet. It all just depends on you and your doctor. But now is the time to prime you body and promote healing. Up your Vitamins, etc.. and go in with a positive mindset. -
Typical day on full liquids?
DeniseM replied to watchout4thebiggurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start in the morning with 22 oz of plain water, once I finish that I start sipping on an 11 oz can of protein shake which usually takes me at least an hour, then I start sipping on half Isopure Alpine Punch and half water throughout the rest of the day, it usually takes me the rest of the day to finish the bottle of Isopure. Then in between I'll have 4 oz ounces of yogurt, soup, or pudding. All together it is usually about 70 oz of fluids and 80 grams of protein. My pouch is really small (so my doctor tells me) so I can take in about 1 oz of fluid every 10 minutes, which means I am literally sipping something from the time I wake up until I go to sleep. -

that broccoli in hot garlic sauce sounds tasty. Like a previous poster stated, I eat every 2 hours and that helps me a lot. You should get rid of the biscuits and X the toast too. Try low fat string cheese sticks or low fat PB with celery. Remember the Proteins first. There was someone that made a sorbet out of frozen fruit, low fat Greek yogurt and 1 scoop of Protein powder. He put it in the food processor and it was done. This is something you could try too. I know I am lol. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, bedtime snack This is my plan. I also still drink my Protein shakes or do Pure Protein Bars (1/2 bar) which keeps me full as well. -
I would review your doctor's instructions. Yes I know everybody says that. The reason why I want to stress that is that every doctor is different in what they consider mushies. My first week of mushies was only yogurt, cottage cheese ricotta. That's a far cry from anything that you can put in the blender. Remember just because it mushed in a blender doesn't mean it's the right weight. And when you eat something it's going to go into the small stomach and pull on the stitches there from the band until it passes through into the big stomach.

I was also banded on 9/11- I have a hard time getting in the three protein shakes the doctor wants me to have. The doctor told me to do a half a cup of cream of wheat or grits for breakfast. 1 cup of protein shake mid morning. A half of cup of any cream soup for lunch (strained). A protein shake for the afternoon. And 4 oz of Greek yogurt with a teaspoon of protein shake mix and a teaspoon of sugar free jelly and then another protein shake in the evening. I feel like I'm constantly eating. Is this pretty similar to everybody else's menu?

A Couple of questions.
Baconville replied to Sunlight61's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Molly, so you eat it cold, right? I have found recipes and ideas for cold. I normally have cherry or blueberry Greek Yogurt with a tablespoon of ground flax seed. I miss hot cereal. With cold foods you can always add Protein powder, to bump up the protein if you need to. I have yet to find a powder that works in hot foods. I live in Minnesota and this winter I have really missed starting my day with a hot breakfast! My NUT told me that Egg Beaters would be my best option for a hot breakfast. I just can't get excited about eggs in the morning, although I do have them for either lunch or dinner at least a couple days a week. Thank you so much for the ideas! I am definitely going to check out that site. Always looking for new ideas!! Carol -

How much yogurt?
piercedqt78 replied to Melissa1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A "single serve" container made 3 servings for me the first week I was able to have yogurt. I also bought a popsicle mold and made frozen yogurt pops. I made 4 pops out of one of those containers. I also made sugar pudding free pops, they were amazing. -
Finally Made It To Onderland
shakey88 replied to shakey88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to be completely honest. In the beginning, I was counting my calories and making sure that I stayed between 1000 and 1200 a day. The last couple weeks I have been lazy about it, but I am still losing. Here are some things I eat. Breakfast During the week (M-F), I have a Protein shake (EAS Carb Control) and some sort of fruit or a Fiber 1 bar. Weekends, I usually have a cup of Koshi Go Lean Cereal with 1/2 cup of skim milk or Weight Control oatmeal lunch This varies...last week, I had turkey and cheese on wheat bread with mustard. This week I am going to have a salad with chicken breast. Sometimes I have Laughing Cow Cheese with 6 reduced fat crackers and a yogurt. I could have yogurt and a string cheese. dinner Some ideas...1/2 of a chicken breast with a cup of veggies, a turkey burger with cheese, chili, Soup, Chicken Parm. I do not deny myself food either. If they have something at work, I eat it. If I dont, I find myself wanting it even more. I just eat an extremely small portion of it. I went to a birthday party for a kid and I had a cup cake. I go to dinner with my friends to the Olive Garden and Applebees. I just watch how much I consume. I drink Water and crystal light and sometimes Diet Snapple. Though I have wanted a Pepsi and I will have it. I do workout almost every day. 35 mins on the Wii. 35-45 mins of resistance training (weights, body ball or resistance band) and 30-45 mins of cardio I hope this is what you wanted. It is working for me, even though I do not follow all the rules. I do not have any Fluid, so I am able to eat basically anything. The PA in my office jokes with me telling me I wasted my money because I am basically doing this myself. I say it is the best $5 I ever spent! -
Have a confession to make. I'm only 6 days post op and I fell off the wagon today. I ate fine this morning but at dinner at my moms house she made a full turkey dinner for her and my brother with soup for me. It started with a little mashed potatoes mixed into my onion soup. Then it turned in to a spoonful of mashed potatoes in to my mouth. I ate until I thought I'd burst. Then I came home and thought "hum, I didn't get sick. Maybe I'll try some yogurt". I ate two yogurts, an applesauce, and a Protein Bar! I feel like cr**. I hang my head in shame. I hope I didn't hurt myself. :-(
