MCT Oil, Keto..an alternate way to eat Post VGS
GeTnBackuP replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I asked my NUT about fat yesterday and she said not to waste the calories on something that has no nutritional value. I was talking about mixing a mashed avocado with tuna instead of using mayo. I dont understand that logic. I understand the protein thing, I get that, but what about the fat portion. I cannot eat tuna dry and if I dont use mayo why is the avocado just as bad? Do I use greek yogurt instead? Thats fine but I feel like as s a NUT she should have explained that to a newbie...It's comments like that that confuse me. Im trying to swap out the bad fat for the good avocado and I just dont get it....which is sort of what prompted the question about the MCT oil. I know how to eat well, my problem is with portion control. That will be taken care of real soon so Im back to what's ok and what's not with a sleeve. Maybe Im just thinking too much- lol, my head is swimming with questions! I'll be following you, clearly you're doing something right -
I eat an Oikos lemon meringue yougurt for my morning snack. Yummy! There are tons of different yogurt flavors out there.

8 months out, 85 lbs down!
Nancy MBGC replied to sonkat5355's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What kind of yogurt do you eat? Can one get away with a 2% fat one with fruit, even though it contains sugar? -
Hi, 8 months from surgery and 85 lbs down! I'm very happy i chose to do this. I'm 62, 5ft 5 in and was about 277 and now 192 so i have 42 more lbs to reach my goal of 150! I have to admit I love Skinny Popcorn. It has not hurt my weight loss but I feel guilty eating it. Does anyone else eat it? I still eat very little and no other junk food, protein, cheese, meat, yogurt, etc. Hope everyone else is doing well and if you are considering surgery, please just do it!!! Items to have on hand post-op
ProfessorSlim replied to allie2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
sugar free pudding is Ok? That is awesome, because I hate yogurt -
I'm 18 days post-op, still on a full liquid diet. I have noticed that when I eat yogurt (the heaviest thing I currently eat) I am in the bathroom exactly 6 hours later, even if that is 1 am. I'm wondering about when I start eating solid food, will I always have a middle of the night bathroom run? Also, when my intestines get active they are really noisy...like rumbling across the room noisy. Is all this just part of healing or am I going to have to get used to having an alien reside in my belly?

Hi all, I had my surgery 9/15. I'm feeling great and am pleased with my weight loss at this point in the game. This weekend I moved onto Stage 3, moist chicken, fish, scrambled egg etc. After weeks of soups and yogurt I am very happy to be in this phase. My question to you is what and how much are you eating? Hope you are all doing well! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

1234567890 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I had my SVG done in 03/10/17. I am up to my 6th month.. I went from HW (01/05/17) 405lbs SW (3/10/17): 385 lbs CW (10/2/17): 245 lbs I noticed I am eating more.. i.e Breakfast: 6 oz Lunch: 8 oz Dinner: 6 oz Plus 5 oz yogurt per day (snack) I still believe is not drastically high portions.... However, I would like to hear back from those who already past 6 months and can share your experience. Thanks -
Traveling after surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to Staci1211's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Are you flying and renting a car? or driving? Take your own cute thermos (Sip by S'Well) with you - empty of course in suitcase, and get a little individual blender. Pack some gasx strips, vitamins, stool softeners, etc. If renting a car, go to a grocery and get some protein waters, yogurts, string cheese, milk, protein bars, individual packets of nut butters, small bag of almonds - if you tolerate them. Put a couple of these items in a fanny pack or small day pack. Keep liquid with you all day, try to eat something in between actual meals because you won't know exact times you will eat or how long waiting times will be in lines. Just pick protein first when dining. Have fun. -
Basically, the only things I eat (18 days postop) are: -light and fit greek yogurt -morningstar spicy black bean 'burger' -cottage cheese -premier protein shake -eggs I can't think of anything else to eat either. Meat gets stuck, even deli meat, so I'm not bothering with meat at this point. But I too am getting bored with what I'm eating. What is everyone else eating?
-
I can only offer anecdotal advice but you are not eating enough protein or taking in enough fluids. Try sugar free popsicles, some greek yogurt, hot tea, bone broth in between meals. You must eat and drink even though you don't feel like it. Add a protein shake/liquid even if you can't eat something. Have you brought this up with your surgical team?

I like to keep it simple. 1. Cottage cheese (or yogurt) and fruit 2. black beans and sweet potato 3. Spinach and banana smoothie

90 Days Out - Menu Ideas?
Meryline replied to GinaLola's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now I'm eating 150g (5oz) Skyr (high protein yogurt) with 20g of flaxseeds and a nectarine in it. In about 3 hours I'll have a 5 oz portion of stew (lean meat, potatoes, carrots and celery root) 3 hours later I'll have ground chicken fajitas with bellpeppers (5oz total), a little cheddar and some sour cream (No tortilla) 3 hours after that I'm having 100g of smoked salmon on a piece of Protein bread and humus And for an evening snack I'll have 1-2 mozzarella sticks That is around 1100-1200 kcal 112g of protein, 53g of fat and 46g of carbs A normal day for me is usually 1-2 cold meals and 3 warm meals. I meal prep and always have my freezer stacked with 3-4 options of pre portioned 5 oz meals to take to work and heat up. Without it I know this wouldn't have worked. Almost always when I make dinner I make a larger portion, so I can freeze the rest -

I'm pretty boring and can only eat around 1/4 cup too. I'm interested in what others say. I was doing a green smoothie for breakfast but I felt like I was drinking my day away and I felt hungrier throughout the day. Weird. So I'll have eggs for breakfast. If I do Greek yogurt (Oikos Triple Zero), I put flax or chia seeds in it and some fruit. Still a protein shake in there. Fish. Ground turkey (taco meat, in a simmer sauce). I need ideas too! -
18 days post op
Angel11 replied to LosingIsWinning's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m experiencing the same! My surgery was 09/21/17 on Thursday & I weighed myself this past Thursday (at 1 week post op) & I lost 10lbs. I go see my surgeon & dietitian for my post op appointment tomorrow. I just weighed myself an hour ago (in the evening & not right in the morning like I usually do) & weighed the same from 3 days ago. I’m allowed to eat creamed soups, yogurts, sugar free pudding, popsicles & protein shakes. I’m getting about 40oz only too. I’m a little down. Maybe this week will be better? Keep your chin up! We will succeed!! -
2 weeks out..not a pound lost!?
amandaaok replied to amandaaok's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
God no not still on liquids only...who does liquids only for 17 days after!? Lol I have a premier protein drink, soup, pureed beans, smashed avocado yogurt etc...all things that are allowed at this point. Like I said I think mine was a combination of all the fluids - I was hella swollen from hospital - and my time of the month following surgery by BARELY more than a week. I refuse to weigh daily - I would get obsessed and then depressed if it wasn't as fast as other people - but I will weigh weekly and keep track of it, so next week is next weigh in -
Vanilla can really help with adding that touch of sweetness without sugar. Get vanilla powder and it will make your coffee/yogurt/hot cereal taste like you have added sugar

Is anyone else buying and trying protein drinks, mixes etc pre-surgery?
BunnyJean posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My appointment with my surgeon is this Thursday, Oct 5. So my surgery is immanent. I imagine sometime in Oct. I've spent the last several weeks buying the foods (liquids) that I will need pre-surgery and for the first month after surgery. We live remotely, I'm taking 1 week from work and work from home office, so the chances of me actually making it to the store in the first few weeks is about zero. So I'm stocking up and also trying out the items I am buying. Too bad you can't just buy ONE bottle of a protein drink. I figure I'll save massively on groceries the first month so I can "justify" my expenditures now, even if they don't work out. I am lactose intolerant and have been for years. So this is a real struggle because everything is milk based. Even in lifeskills class, put powdered milk in stuff to get more protein. I'm pretty sure that can't happen for me! So I need to be creative and I need to try things before my very life depends on them! Has anyone else done this? Bought items to try? Maybe we can share the best of what we've found? I know all tastes are different. And I have a different prospective because of the lactose issues. One thing I HAVE found.....my gosh is this stuff all sooooooo sweet!!!! TOO SWEET!!! Most have Sucrolose and oh my gosh they could cut that back a bit! So anyway...here are some of the things that I've tried before surgery, and yes I'm told my tastes may change, but talking to sooo many people, it happens but not at huge rate. I'll risk it. I love MUSCLE MILK. I've bought and tried Chocolate and Vanilla Creme. I really like the vanilla creme. This is the protein premixed shake. So I bought the powdered mix in Vanilla Creme.. I currently use it in my coffee to give me a boost of protein! Trying to wean myself of coffee. Down to one a day. My dietitian and lifeskills coach say this is fine. I tolerate this very very well. I really like the PREMIER PROTEIN premixed shakes. I tolerate them ok. Some days better than others. I seem to tolerate the vanilla better, though I like the taste of the chocolate better. I have not tried any others. I don't like too many "fake" taste things, so I am sticking to chocolate and vanilla for premixed. I love GARDEN OF LIFE RAW FIT protein mix. This has been my go to for several years due to lactose issues. I don't find it as sweet because it uses Stevia. I have tried vanilla, chocolate, and Marley Coffee. LOVE Marley! I typically take a scoop, water it down just a bit and then mix it with greek yogurt for breakfast. Scoop has 28g protein. It's plant and seed based. I had both my dietician and lifeskills coach look it over and they said it would be ok. It's dairy free, vegan, gluten free and soy free. Garden of Life website or Amazon. I'm glad I can still use it. I tolerate and like Fage 0% or 2% Greek Yogurt, plain. In my classes and elsewhere Oikos Triple Zero has been mentioned. While I like that taste of that very much, it bothers my gut. Baby food. Decided to try some to help with stages. I like baby food LOL But the Plum Organics Mighty 4 stage is good for a bit of protein and fruit if you are not tolerating stuff and need to get in a bit. They are higher in sugar, 10g. No added, it's from the fruit in them. One pouch has 4-5 grams protein and 10 grams sugar. So it's not ideal for sure, but I bought a few to have on hand in case. FAIRLIFE makes a "milk" that is lactose free and cows not treated with rBST. Since I'm NOT a big milk drinker but know there is protein in it, I started with the 2% one. 1 cup 120 cals, 6 sugars (natural occurring ) and 13 grams of protein. I will try the skim one next and that will, hopefully, be the one I stick with. I was pleased to find this! My current "milk" is Rice Milk. I like it better than Almond milk because it doesn't have a strong taste of something other like Almond milk does. But alas, no protein in rice milk. This Fairlife is a great choice because then my family can use it for cooking. (my daughter is HUGE mac n cheese fan, damn her skinny butt!!) TRUSOURCE Protein Water this is good but HOLD ONTO YOUR SHORTS is it SWEET! Holy batman sweet! There will be no drinking it straight up for me. Sweetened with sucralose. I have used a bottle over several days adding it to my middle 24 oz of water (I typically drink 3 minimum of these a day of water but wonder if I still can sipping constantly cuz I forget and I gulp now like 10 ozs at a time!! I'm working on it!) I added it only to give a boost of protein to my water intake. Which I feel I will need after surgery. One 16 oz bottle has 90 cals, 0 sugars and 20 grams protein. If you like it straight up, there you have 20 grams of protein with what is a clear liquid. I tried the blue raspberry. I tolerate it, though around the time I used it, I broke out in mild case of hives. I'm giving myself another week (been at least 2), then I will try again. So this is good, and too sweet to me might be just right for someone else. It is made with whey isolate. Which I seem to tolerate the isolate more. We'll see. You can find it at Target. course my target didn't have it so I bought online and had to buy several 4 packs. If I really cannot tolerate, my daughter's boyfriend is into fitness and would probably really like it. So no big deal. SARGENTO BALANCED BREAKS these are cheese, dried fruit and nut snacks. I use these now, but they will not be able to be used until final stage and only if you can tolerate nuts, which may not be for a bit for some people. They deserve to be mentioned because in the future, they are a quick snack with protein that is portion controlled. For on the go or those lazy days. I pretty much like cheddar cheese the best and do not like swiss (no lazy cow or whatever that one is called as it's swiss), so these fit with my tastes. 7 grams of protein per container and 180 cals. While the cals are on the higher side, cheese, nuts and dried fruit are all higher calorie foods to begin with. They make them also with some chocolate and gram squares. I tried and actually was not a fan at all. So glad on that one! Again, this is for now before surgery or way after when nuts can be tolerated. GERBER RICE CERAL I did try this and feel that if I add my FAIRLIFE milk to it, I will have some protein. I like it. It's loaded with iron (well 60% for a 4 yr olds daily value), which we will probably need a boost of. It's also pretty high % of B vitamins etc. It has 60 cals and 1 g protein, 1 sugar I can't see added so must be naturally occurring, per 1/4 cup. So while not ideal, if I need to I can use in 2nd stage with the protein milk. PB2 POWDERED PEANUT BUTTER oh sweet heck yes! I mix with smoothies and with plain greek yogurt. 2 tablespoons has 50 cals, 2 grams sugar and 5 grams protein. May need to be a bit careful cuz of the sugars, which is added sugar, but sleevers don't tend to have dumping. SWANSON white premium chunk chicken breast This is canned. I eat this right out of the can. I drain and rinse it then just eat it. I figure, that will suit me fine in later stages and for puree I can put it through the processor. I do not like canned tuna. Which is so weird because I pretty much eat a fish or seafood each and every day. I will grill up a tuna steak and love it, but I don't like canned and I seem to get a gut ache from it too. Really weird. So this chicken is my go to. Throwing this out there for those that do not have time to cook up a chicken breast to put through the processor. 2 servings per can of 50 cals, 0 sugars, 8 protein. So a whole can during the day will give you 16 gr protein. BUMBLE BEE Premium Wild Pink Salmon This is also a canned good. I love this stuff and again eat it right out of the can. A serv size is about 1/4 cup, 80 cals, 0 sugars, 13 grams protein. I need to ask the dietitian if I can put this through the processor only because the cans of this I buy have the skin and small soft bones of the salmon in it. I imagine they would process to almost nothing as they currently are very small, but I'll have to see. So that's my list of things I've currently tried and liked. I have tried MANY other premixed protein shakes and cannot tolerate them gut wise. Doesn't mean they didn't taste decent enough, but I've decided not to list them. If anyone asks me, I can let them know if I have tried and if it tasted good, bad, ok. Anyone without a lactose issue has more options for sure. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear of foods, drinks etc that anyone else has tried either getting prepared or after surgery for any stage. -
recipes Great Pureed Stage Recipes with High Protein
Phobia42 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the middle of my pureed stage, and I found two amazing recipes that have made this my favorite stage so far. Figured I'd share them with everyone. First, if you like spicy: Buffalo Chicken Dip Ingredients 2 (10 ounce) cans chicken breasts 1/2 packages (4 ounce) fat free cream cheese, softened- 1/4 cup frank's redhot original cayenne pepper sauce 1/4 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese 1/8 (2 Tbsp) cup fat free ranch dressing 1/8 (2 Tbsp) cup fat-free Greek yogurt OR Fat Free Sour Cream Directions - Preheat oven to 350 degrees. - Place cream cheese in a medium bowl and stir until smooth. Mix in Frank's RedHot, mozzarella cheese, ranch dressing, and yogurt. Stir in chicken until thoroughly combined. Spoon mixture evenly into a deep 8-inch by 8-inch baking dish. - Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until mixture is heated through. Stir well and enjoy! To make this dish FAST, skip the oven altogether. Prepare dip according to the directions, but in a microwave-safe dish. Then microwave uncovered on high for 5 minutes (stopping and stirring halfway through cooking), or until hot. Each 1/4 cup serving has 9 protein, 3 carbs, 2 fat, and it tastes amazing (I normally don't believe people when they say "it's healthy, but it's just as good as....." but this really is). When I get to solid foods, I plan to continue making this and have it as a dip with carrots, celery, etc. Also, if you're a pasta fanatic like me, I take about 1/3 - 1/2 pound of 99% fat free ground turkey and brown it in a skillet. Put in a blender with maybe a cup of marinara sauce. You can also mix in some non-fat ricotta cheese if you like. Heat in the skillet (it's basically a meat spaghetti sauce without the pasta). I also season to taste with garlic salt, rosemary, and thyme for extra flavor. I heat it up and put Parmesan cheese on top when I eat it. If you're also cooking for a family, I imagine this would go great with pasta for them, without for us. Hope this helps! -

Sleeve was on Monday the 25th. Been off the pain meds for 24 hours now. I'm still so unbelievably dizzy and light headed. I'm walking and trying to get all my fluids/protein in. My hands get jittery and I actually break out in a cold sweat from walking to the mailbox. I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough calories in. Today I got 1 protein shake, 1 packet of cream of wheat instant and 1 Greek yogurt. It has take me all day to eat that! And maybe or maybe not related I started passing old blood clots vaginally. What the heck is up with that? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
