2nd week banded not sure if I feel full
Momto5 replied to lisafitz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
HI Lisa I was banded the 5th too. I am feeling the same way. So I eat a little and wait. If I am still hungry, I eat a little more. I have an appointment on Friday and hope to get some answers. I keep reminding myself, this time is about healing, not weight loss...... -
BMI 30 - any European clinics for lap band?
hope2bthinr replied to babyboys's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't had the surgery yet but from all of the stuff I've been reading, the FDA (food and Drug Association)approves the use of the gastric band and sets the recommended limits for BMI (in the USA at least) and the band makers themselves have recommendations for use as far as when the risk to a person of staying obese outweighs the risk of surgery. That's probably why you're having trouble finding a clinic or Dr to do it. I hope you are successful, but do weigh those things for yourself. Is it worth the risk? I know when I was back there at that lower weight, I still would have said "yes" knowing my genetics and family history, but that doesn't mean a doctor or clinic (or my insurance) would have agreed. What I would have given not to have gotten this heavy to begin with!! You might try looking for the approval recommendations from whatever agency reviews medical drugs and devices, specifically for gastric bands, in your country. Then see what the exceptions to the rules are. Lot's of research sometimes will help you understand the limits and also how they apply to your case. Good luck!! Sometimes if you just keep hunting for the solution, it will present itself. And I hope this info helps. -

sandi2004 replied to dsinhouse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
While I don't live in the UK I'd be glad to help any way possible. I am out 6 years and holding my 250 lb weight loss. I blog my journey with lot's of information at Sandi's Banded Living — My Lapband Weight Loss Success Story Take a peek and see if you can find some useful information. Or just send me an email or PM with any of your questions. My only regret about having a lap band is that I didn't do it sooner! -
How'd we ever get out of such a wonderful habit? The last 10 years my two sons were living at home we left the day after Christmas and spent a week in the Islands, then along came grandkids and no more Christmas trips. Hmmmm, maybe it was really due to my weight and the grandkids were just a good excuse, time to get back into that old tradition.

what happens if you dont lose the specified weight before surgery
marthaeb posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
has anyone been turned down due to the fact that they did not lose any weight before the surgery date? -
I just peeked into the excercise and fitness section and noticed far less post than in the post op section. Most of us who had the band were not exactly what you call gym gurus before we were banded, hence we gained weight which pushed us into morbid obesity! Im saying this in the most non judgmental way possible WE MUST EXERCISE! I know some have never even entered a gym, thats ok, there is still time to join, if not at least power walk/jog for 30 minutes a day. This post was as much for me as it is for those who are struggling with excercising! Good Luck and lets continue to encourage each other in this area!

Ask and make sure that they will not use the weight of your intital appointment for the insurance approval... I asked the same thing about what if I go under the 40 BMI with the presurgery diet. As long as they use the intial weight it does not matter how much I loose presurgery, or even b4 I got approved for the surgery... maybe yours will be the same... crossing fingers for ya Kim

Hello everyone, I am a 44 yr old guy, T2 diabetic, with sleep apnea. I am 6'4" now 300lbs, my highest weight ever. I blame my most recent increase, (it's never my fault) on two shoulder surgeries, and a knee surgery, and a recent severe accident in which I was involved, but not at fault. I recently attended a seminar, and have an appointment with the doc this month. Anyway, I have been battling weight my entire life. Some good results, but usually gain it back. I know of two women who have had Lapband, one with fantastic success, the other with good success. I have a few concerns, one of my crutches in life is caffeine, I can't drink coffee, so I get mine through Diet Coke. I have read you can't drive ANY carbonated drinks with a GB. True or false? Also read of problems with pills. I work outside, so in the summer, I drink a lot of Water, can I still drink water in large quantities? It would seem to be OK as water should not be effected by the band. True or false? Any other things I am over looking? Thanks, Tom

You can increase the frequency overweening meals, early stages you are to focus on healing not weight loss. Early stages I drank liquids every 2 hours because I could only take in small amounts and lots of water and SF drinks. My doctor told me I would be hungry until my first fill.

Is my Weightloss an track?
TurtleQueen replied to Hungry4Change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really can't compare your weight loss to other being that everyone starts at a different level and everyone body is different. The heavier you are the fast you lose at first. So just trying to get more Protein and liquid to keep your energy up!! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
How long should I be staying full? More questions...
shamrock replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't fret over it, your weight flucuates a couple of pounds all the time. The difference between morning and night, how much salt you consumed, how much fluids you have taken in, what time of month it is. I even wonder if it has anything with the Moon. It is the over all picture need to keep in mind. Hide your house scale, give it to some else in your house to hide. My son hides mine in his room,he's 17 I respect him to much to go into his room if he is not home. (I have dug through it when he was) -
How long should I be staying full? More questions...
Iluvharleys replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your weight can change hourly, that is why it is so important not to become so dependant on your scale. We have a thread going for weighing each monday. The majority of us weigh once a week and see better results. You can drive yourself crazy weighing so many times a day. And, yes it does make a difference with clothes and without. Give it a try to weigh once a week and see how you do. How long you stay full depends on if you have had a fill or not. If you haven't had a fill, liquids go right through, once you start eating protein, you should stay full for about 3-4 hours or longer. -
Yea this is really the hard part since no 2 people are just alike. I wish there was something we could all do to ensure we could loose weight and no have to worry about the scales. It's just becoming a struggle for me as well.

I am taking any where from 750 to 1000 calories a day. It seems high compared to other people who post on here but I do drink one protien shake. I also have been eating zone perfect chocalote bars they have 14 grams of protien and 210 calories. I am also bad with drinking I have been drinking a lot of sweet tea mixed with unsweet tea and gatorade for some reason after I got sleeved chystal light and diet teas are so nasty to me now. I have not started to exercise I will soon my side has still been bothering me. I have not been doing all the right things but so far it is working for me. I don't condone any one to do wat I have done but it seems like by adding some sugars to my diet it has helped with my weight starting to come down again.

Well I have just completed 2 of my 3 weeks of pre surgery diet. First 2 have gone pretty good as I have been having mostly protein shakes along with other protein basically no carbs. It hasnt been easy but I have to say that I have been 95percent good. This last week I am going to do liquid protein shakes only, wish me luck as I know I will need it. I know if I drink enough of the shakes it keeps me physically full it is just the head hunger which is the killer. I leave for Belgium on th 16th for surgery on the 18th. I am excited but also very nervous. I am 53 years old and very overweight so the worry of surgery for me is at times overwhelming but...I know it is for the best. No matter what happens I can't carry on living at this weight. I have lost 2 stone the past 3 weeks and I just need to carry on with it.

It went really good. The staff was so helpful. I had to take my kids with me (2 and 1 year old) and the staff was so nice about it! It was great because usually doctors have an attitude about it. I had my psych eval today and she is sending the report on tuesday. She said I'm okay for surgery which is great. Now I have to meet with the nutritionist to start working on my 3 month required diet. I am so ready to lose this weight.

To fill or not to fill? I need help please
happygirl65 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I started on a very low dose of antidepressant my appetite did diminish and I did lose some weight just because I wasn't craving food for comfort the way I had before the meds. In all honesty though it was something like 5 pounds. I am still on that very low dose over a year later and the effects are the same. It never wore off. I only do have the cravings when it's approaching that time of the month so it's more hormonal and less a means of self medicating. I really do think the meds help the seratonin so my brain isn't calling for some food that will boost it...if that makes sense. I think that you should pay attention to all of your body cues....if you don't have an appetite don't eat. My surgeon says that the band works by tricking the brain into thinking you have eaten more than you have....so if your brain thinks you are full perhaps it's working better than you think or the combination is just working well together. I wish you every bit of luck. You may just be on a temporary plateau but it is important to tell you doctor about all of your concerns. You sound perfectly reasonable with a well thought out set of questions that a professional should be able to help you with or explain better what is going on with your body. Very Best wishes in getting it all sorted out. -
Hi, I'm with Kaiser insurance (and somehow have been since I was born!) and I'm just starting my Lap Band process. Now, my BMI is 38.0, but because I'm 4'10" this much weight on such a short stature is considered severely obese. My question is; Will Kaiser automatically deny me because my BMI isn't at 40 or higher, or will they take my short stature and medical problems into account? Any information and helpful opinions would be greatly appreciated!

This morning starts liquids and fruits only. I am starting a week earlier than needed so I can get the hang of it besides any extra weight lost is just an added benefit. Surgery date is 07/27/2008. Current weight - not known - my scales this morning won't read so either that means the battery is low or I am just too heavy for them to read. I will work on that. The # isn't that important to me right now so I am not concerned, it is more feeling good and noticing the difference myself. Right now I am retaining a ton of water. I think the weather heating up has made my body retain it, so drinking lots of water today to try and get it to release some. Plan of attack: Keep a list of things to do when I am hungry to distract me Investigate curves as possible exercise option

Severe dehydration
Kimjuly7 replied to Lovelyorchid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So this is my reply from the doctor. "The first couple months after weight loss surgery can be fustrating for patients. Sometimes even if you eat the exact same thing 2 days in a row you may tolerate it the first time, but you may not tolerate it the next time. This can be frustrating and very confusing. It sounds like you prepared the pork perfectly (crock pot all day); but sometimes it still just doesn't work and there isn't always an explaination! Don't give up on trying new foods! These types of things will get better with more time. I would recommend to continue to really focus on getting more Water. Since you are having symptoms of dehydration it may even be more beneficial for you to focus more on your Fluid intake rather than your protien intake. We do worry about strictures about 6 wks after surgery, but most of the time patients feel like what ever they eat/drink just sits there and doesn't move. This usually causes pain, nausea and regular comiting. It doesn't sound like these symptoms pertain to you? I would focus on soft foods and liquids for the next couple days. You will feel better once you can increase your fluid intake." So I guess I keep trying. I did go to the store yesterday and get some 40 calorie no sugar added popsicles yesterday to increase fluid. I must say it tasted pretty good. Hope you are feeling better! 1 cup water in for the day only 7 to go!!! -
Are you sure that you're not just overeating to the point that you pb? If you are sure that's not the reason, then I agree with Harley Nana.... Go and get your band checked out... You might just have tightened up over time If all is well consider taking the following actions 1. have a few days on fluids, throwing up a lot can irritate you stoma and lead to further throwing up... it's a viscous circle. 2. keep a food diary for a couple of weeks, noting when you are throwing up and exactly what you are eating... It's not revolutionary, I know, but it may show you what you are/aren't doing that's hindering further fat reduction. Follow the bandster rules: SaggiJ, You do know what the bandster rules are regarding meals, don't you??? they are as follows... 1. No drink 30minutes before and 45 minutes after food 2. Eat good quality, solid food that will stay in your pouch and give you satisfaction. 3. Eat you Protein FIRST, then your vegetables.... then if you have room you can eat the carbohydrates!!!! If you eat the mash first, then you are asking for trouble in the weight loss stakes..... You also know that it's small bites.... no bigger than 10p piece then chew chew, chew!!! taking larger bites and swallowing them before they're well and truly mushed in your mouth, is asking for trouble, especially when you're tight! Success depends on following these rules and working with your band, not against it! Come on girl, you know what you should be doing!!! Taken from a previous post! Hope that this helps a bit! Hx
