Or in other words, how the mighty fall. Oh hard times! Self image, weight, perception, I am pretty, I am thin I am ugly, I am fat, My own worse enemy. I slip a little then I trip myself all the way. food, my enemy, my nemesis! My lifeline my love! I must eat! I mustn't eat! I never want to eat again. I want to eat all the time... Day by day as I consume, I am consumed. I am an inspiration, I am a sham. I am hanging on so fragile and scared. I want to live, this is not living.

Why Are We So Impatient?
Shells replied to Joyfulone1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol I can relate! Your SO there and it's what we wished for and it's happening and we just want to get there. I'm the same way at 190 hitting 189 lol. I got there then gained 3 pounds and now I'm back at 190. I learned my lesson on patience this way lol, I don't mind what weight I am as long as it's going DOWN You got this! Oh I weigh at least every Wednesday or if I forget every 5-7 days. Weight fluctuates all the time so after I use the restroom in the AM is the only time I check. Have a family member take away the scale so it's out of sight out of mind. -
Why Are We So Impatient?
favoredone replied to Joyfulone1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw this topic and started laughing!!! I used to weigh myself several times a day and when I wasn't dropping pounds, I was devestated daily!!!.. I'm learning to enjoy the journey and not be so anxious!! The weight is going to come off... it will.. we are losing inches and pounds of fat that we will NEVER see again.. The 1-3 lbs of fluctuation are usually Water (in my experience) and totally depend on if I'm watching my sodium and sugar intake... We are going to get to our goals... the question is, will we enjoy the journey or not.. I choose to enjoy each moment...even the ones that are not so good... -
Calorie/nutrition question
Bufflehead replied to sleevingbeauty23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The main difference is that with a sleeve, it is actually possible to maintain such a diet long-term, not fall off the wagon, go crazy, and gain everything back. If everyone could do that without surgery, then the surgery wouldn't exist because no one would need it. It's not as if the vast majority of morbidly obese people are wandering around the earth with no idea how to lose weight, or no desire to do so. For the most part, people do want to lose weight and are aware of what to do. They try to do it, and they fail. That's why only 5% of obese people can sustain any sort of significant weight loss without surgery (and I'm not talking about losing all their excess weight, either -- just enough to make a difference). The success rate with weight loss surgery is orders of magnitude better -- with the sleeve, the average patient will lose between 60 and 70 percent of their excess weight. For me, I had to come to grips with the fact that despite my being educated and motivated, I was not a special snowflake who would be one of those 5% who could sustain even a small amount of weight loss on my own. I needed surgery. It was the best decision I ever made. And the idea that you need a minimum of 1200 calories or whatever to be healthy is a myth. If you have significant fat stores to fuel your body (and we all do, or we wouldn't be here) and are taking your vitamins, and getting in sufficient protein, you don't need extra calories. It's important to have labs drawn regularly to make sure your vitamin and protein intakes are sufficient, but most people find that their labs are fine and they are doing great. I have never felt or been so healthy or energetic as I have on a low carb, low calorie diet. -
I tried posting this in the powder room but it wouldn't let me so here it goes. Ok I'm 27 and had my surgery about a month ago at the end of my period and it I got my period last week I think Tuesday or Wednesday and today I'm still spotting my period has never lasted this long could this be because of the rapid weight loss ? I've lost about 40 since surgery and I have very bad anxiety over things like this so can you help me please ? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So I just found this app and I am looking for support. I am 14 months out I had lost 93 lbs. I have since gained back 24 lbs in the last 6 months. I was one of the ones who can still eat whatever I want just could only fit so much. I had some really bad pain last Friday after I ate celery (I forgot that was one of the only things that my stomach can't handle) But it was a wake up call. I am now on day two of really focusing on what I put in my mouth and how much. I just need some accountability and someone to connect with that is willing to help. Thank you for reading. Nicole

Excited to get back into the swing of things.. I hope I can get rid of this weight for good! I feel like my band is really tight right now, I got an adjustment 2 days ago. Im at 7ML right now. I can swollow my own spit at least. I can sometime drink water just fine but other times its hard. I do not have a desire to eat and I feel this pressure in my chest, I think mostly because im having imense heartburn. Tums do not work. I feel like water just makes my heartburn worse. I have not been able to eat anything, but ive been VERY hungry. I really dont want to unfill and I think that it may just be swelling that will hopefully go down. Ill give it the weekend and see how im doing. Anyone else have heartburn problems? If anyone reads this that is.. http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wBecnHo/"> >

I got the sleeve in October 2017. I was down 135 lbs and it felt great. Last April started to gain some back. I wasn’t surprised since I wasn’t being as strict as I had been. Unfortunately, it has snowballed and I have gained back 35lbs. I feel like I have totally stretched my stomach out. I need more food to feel satisfied and my sweet tooth is out of control. Is it possible I stretched my stomach so much that I feel like I didn’t even have the surgery? How can I shrink it? Can I? Help! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So you thought my husband cheated on me eh!?
JustWatchMe replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Rants & Raves
As we lose the weight, we see sides of people we didn't or weren't willing to see before. I'm glad you called her on it while it was happening. And touching your hair? Ew. -

Wow Im Down To 395!
Cheryl Lawler Phillips replied to HondaCivicDude's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
He isn't following the post-op diet very well as far as how long to be on clear fluids, pureed foods, soft foods etc. He is only 10 days out from surgery and he is pretty much eating anything he wants but he is keeping things to low carb and high protein. He doesn't mind that diet at all, he actually feels better on it. He was on Atkins for a long time, on and off, but was unable to lose any weight. Now he is actually dropping weight! I am so excited for him. -
Heres the backdrop. Ok, I am a newbie. I am curious what the heck is "Onederland?" Is this when someone gets their weight down into the 100LB range? (Under 200 lbs)?

I wore a binder for about a week after surgery- it really helped keep me from moving in ways that would cause the incisions to hurt. I don't know if shapewear will help your body go back to where you want it. I bought some because some of my skin has gotten saggy as I've lost weight. I pretty much only wear it if I'm putting on something form-fitting. Krista

There's a great forum on obesityhelp.com for DS patients and those that are researching that specific procedure. If you'd like to solicit business for this particular surgical group, you may want to find a DS site similar to this one, or visit the OH forum. I appreciate your desire to have everyone do their research, but this sounds like a push for this particular group of surgeons that perform DS. They probably are great surgeons, and congrats to your friend that has had DS with great success. I've lost more than 140lbs in less than a year with VSG, and zero malabsorption. Oh yeah, and I lost it with eating ribeye steak and my cholesterol, and other labs are picture perfect. With DS, patients malabsorb more than just 10% of their fat intake. If we're going to tout all the good of a particular surgery, let's be real honest and disclose some of the disadvantages as well. Vitamin and nutrient deficiencies are common even for some of those that are very diligent with their vitamin/supplement regimen. I've read plenty of personal experiences showing that not all DS patients get to goal, or maintain their loss either. So, it's not foolproof. Each patient that chooses to have any of the weight loss surgeries must make a lifestyle change, and deal with their food demons. None of us can rely on our surgery to do all of the work.

My journey has been long with lots of hairpin turns....
heather5565 replied to moltoguy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Holy fadoodle!! Yeah, I'd say you've jumped over some extra hurdles!!! Too bad you and doc didn't discuss getting a sleeve if that's what he felt was best when he was in the OR... but now that you're all healed up and no permanent liver damage - this is great news! Maybe look at it as: In the grand scheme of things... a few month delay is nothing (?) Now you know that you have to have your liver enzymes watched too. But with weight loss and getting healthy that should also keep your liver issues under control as well. When my doc came and talked to me post op he told me a had a bit of a fatty liver... I was mortified but he said that with weight loss it will fix that. Whew Anyways, good luck and three times a charm!!!! -
Has anyone noticed weight gain while using symbacort?
-
No, there isn't a required amount but they like to see a loss which proves that you have modified your behavior, changed your habits and are serious about the program. The dietician said it was normal to gain during a "band holiday". You simply have no restriction and are much more hungry. I survived today!!! I had 8 oz of beef broth twice and I think that saltiness helped me feel a little more normal.

Congrats beautiful lady! I am one month out today and feel great as well! I will be watching you as an inspiration. I have felt the same as you all the way. Feels great. I'm a bit scared of the 4 week plateau but I know that's when our weight is shifting just to prepare for more weight loss. So i think I'll get through it. Just love to see weight loss everyday Patients is a virtue lol. -

Questions re: Flying post-op??? Binging???
loopylou replied to loopylou's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi again, I realised that I posted this in 'introductions' and then didn't introduce myself!! Please call me Loulou, I am 31 weigh 261 and I'm 5'7. I live in Westen Australia with my DH and cat Freya. I have been overweight since I was 4 and I have an emotional attachment to food. All through my life people have tried to get me to lose weight; parents, friends, partners etc. I have rebelled from this by eating and eating and eating. And now that the world has finally accepted my right to eat, and accepted my unmissable bulk, I cant stop. I am going into the operation with hope, I keep telling myself that "I have chosen this", no one has forced it on me, and I own it and all the consequences good and bad. I want to be healthy, I want to be strong, I want to emerge from a trail of devastating failures to sparkling success and hope. Am I expecting too much from my band and not enough from myself?? -
I put it in my shakes in the blender in the beginning. It really improved the flavor!! I eat it often now on a spoon especially if my weight loss slows down because I'm not consuming enough calories.

Need to vent about weight and habits
NovaLuna replied to Lilypop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even if you DO stretch your stomach a bit as long as you're making healthier choices for foods I don't see you regaining much. I mean 5-10 pounds is pretty much normal for regain so if it happens just try to work to get it off and I'm sure you'll be able to do it eventually. Rice swells though after you eat it so it can potentially lead to your stomach stretching. That's the reason my surgeon advised us to not eat rice anymore (I use cauliflower rice as a substitute). But if rice is something you don't want to give up you don't have to. Just know that it CAN stretch your stomach out. It was ADVISED anyway. The choice on whether to add rice back into our diet is very much our own. For me I eat mostly in the morning as I get sooooo hungry after taking my thyroid meds, but the rest of the day I basically have little to no appetite. I talked to my nutritionist on Monday and we went over my diet and I unloaded about how I ate mostly in the morning and I ate a LOT in a 3-4 hour period and she said that I was doing fine and stressing over nothing as my weight loss has been steady and I'm not going over my carb, fat, sugar, etc. limit and I'm getting my protein in like I'm supposed to. Apparently my metabolism is most active after I take the stupid thyroid meds and decides to sleep the rest of the day lol
