    Slow Losers - Unite!

Oh Candykisses, I am right there with you and your pain and frustrations. At about 4 1/2 maybe 5 months out I pitched the BIGGEST hissy-fit I've had in a long time. I actually threw my shoes I was ao mad. I came this close to breaking a window my the clinic, this close! I'd had my first fill, and after a month and a half, I lost one pound. Man, I'm starting to cry writing this. I've been such a good girl with this thing. And yet because I haven't had any significant losses on the scale I feel like a failure myself. 1200 calories a day didn't do anything. 1000 calories a days didn't do anything. Well, I'm down around 700 calories aday. and we will see if this has any effect. I plan to go weigh myself this Thursday. That will be 1.5 weeks after this latest fill. I will continue at this level at least until I go back next month for my next appointment at the clinic. Candy, you started at almost 300 pounds. I'm going to bet that you were not very active before you were banded. Certianly not very aerobicly active. The fact that you are going to yoga 3 days a week is AMAZING and this, for me, would be a huge NSV! You said yourself that you are feeling better than you have in a long time. I think you should stay with the yoga for now. It will continue to improve your strength and flexibility. However, I don't think that it will do much to tone you up, and it certianly isn't aerobic. It probably won't tone you up like working with weights will, but it is making you feel better, and it is also making you better. I know how hard this is. I also know how hard it is to deal with folks who suspect that we are cheating, especially when by all logic we should be losing weight. We shouldn't need to resort to Diet pills. But maybe Kathy needs one now and again. If I don't lose any weight at 700 calories I'm going to march into my PCP's office and demand answers. I have a low thyroid, but it falls in the "low normal" range, and she wouldn't prescibe any medication for it. Maybe I need to go on meridia for a while, maybe I need to go on diet pills too. I wish I had answers. All I have are weak platitudes, all I have are questions.

    Slow Losers - Unite!

I do the same thing, sneak down there, up and down and up and down. Which all adds up to alot of nothing. Okay, at 1/2 pound per week, it will take me 84 weeks to get to 145. That's about a year and a half. Blech. Have you started your NSV list yet?

How are the May sleevers doing?

I'm officially 3 months out and everything feels so much easier now! The first month or so was definitely rough. The struggle: I still haven't quite hit 800 calories a day and I am supposed to be stepping up to 1000. I am hitting my 90 g protein goal, but the struggle is on every day to up those calories. I started losing hair about 2 weeks ago. It is a lot. My weight loss is completely inconsistent week to week but going down overall. New NSVs: I went on The Hulk (Rollercoaster) at Universal Studios . Not a modified seat, a regular seat!! I was able to clip in the seatbelt myself! This is huge for me since last time I rode I was in a modified seat and had to have two guys come press down the chest harness to clip me in. Then I gained another 20 lbs and couldn't ride at all. My social anxiety is starting to go away. I went into a crowded restaurant this weekend and was not freaking out the whole time about taking up too much space or having to walk past people. I adjusted my office chair to move the arm rests in.

    NSV!!!

Hey, Is it me, or do others find it weird to have donut marketing at the top of this page??? Anyway, I got my labs back today...and I am about 13 weeks post op and down 86 lbs (pre and post op total) since April. My cholesterol is drumroll....wait for it....wait for it....175!!! OMG! I haven't been that low in 20 years! That's NORMAL!!! NORMAL...can't believe I'd ever call anything about me normal. I have also gone from a size 32 to a 24/26 (depending on the brand) although some things are 22's. I am soooo happy. My short term goal is to be down 100 by Christmas. Not sure if I can pull it off as the weight loss has sllllloooowwwwed a bit. But I'm gonna give it my best shot. HEE HEE HEE... I am soooo happy G

Mel, One of the best suggestions my friends gave me was to slow down when you're trying to jog for longer. After a few times at a certain speed, I can typically speed up a little, even if for only a few minutes. I think I have to be more vigilant about what I'm eating, not just calories and protein. I haven't had any issues with getting food down lately, so it's kinda been "open season" if you know what I mean......because I haven't had any problems with tolerating food, I've been good about eating salads and eating more veggies, but it makes it easier to eat brownies, french fries, and crap I wouldn't normally eat. I bought 2 containers of Unjury and they should be here tomorrow. I've also decided to start walking on my "days off" from running. In a huge NSV for me, I walked 2.5 miles yesterday at a 4.0 WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT!!! Ok, I typically look like I've gone swimming in my clothes when I workout. It felt really good to know my body is finally in good condition. Now I just need to go shopping for some headphones. I accidentally left mine in the gym the other night and someone kept them. Jerk. So it's been quiet for me, but a good time to think.... Keep up the great work!

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Go Julie Ann!!! I can't believe we're headed to our bandiversary. I'm losing soooooo slowly (but then I always did). I'm seeing Dr. D Sept 10 - I think I need a fill this time. It's been since March! I still PB once in a while, but I notice that I can eat more (than I should). I'm inching towards my goal. I'd love to be in the 180's by October 24. I'm getting lots of NSV's tho - people I haven't seen complement me all the time. I was just at a family reunion and my cousin asked me if I'd gotten taller!!! I actually shrunk 3/4 of an inch because I'm getting older. Dang! that just means more weight to lose!
  8. Woofay- You rock woman!! Congrats on the NSV! And just FYI, I don't think their stuff runs that big, so take the compliment! :biggrin1: I just bought my first pair of jeans in 10 years from AE Outfitters ...they won't fit me yet but I'm going to hang them right on my closet door to remind me that I need to get my butt in gear when I get my cast off next week! Motivation clothing!!!! They are super cute wide leg jeans. I can't wait to get my cast off so I can work out instead of sitting on the computer and shopping!! Hee hee! Oh, and by the way...across the river is only about 10 to 15 minutes away, so I really don't have any excuse for not going to a gym in Iowa other than the bridge rush hour traffic (which I could easily avoid). I'm really just a slacker! Dee- They still have the picture of my little puppy on the humane society website...I'm going to take my chances and drive over there tomorrow on the off chance that the guy that answered the phone didn't know what he was talking about. They have another Jack Russel also, but he's not as cute... My husband doesn't know about this yet so I may be headed for divorce (which might be ok at this point as I am not too happy with him lately...) Wish me luck with my puppy endeavor!!
  9. Deb ~ I am sending healing thoughts to your sweet Tucker. Dee ~ Congrats on those NSVs, girlie! You are so inspirational to me. Lap ~ I am definitely thinking of those states in the path of Gustav; we already have some evacuees here in Georgia. And now we have to worry about Hanna... Michelle ~ I know all have missed you around here, I hope you hang in there and find your happy medium. :frown: Happy long weekend to those of us fortunate enough to be off tomorrow. I never associated fireworks with Labor Day but apparently some of my neighbors do...good thing I plan to be up for awhile. :wink2:
  10. ((hugs)) girly... I feel you on the not being a good bandster and having a hard time affording the fills. I am right there with you. Don't hide though! We all have ups and downs and are here to help pull each other up when we stumble. If you don't let us know, we can help. :w00t: :tt2: Hang in there... you will find your momentum. LAP~ You are looking like a hot tamale my friend. Loved the slide show. Keep up the amazing work! NSV for me today. I am wearing size 26's comfortably now. My 32's & 30's have been forbidden  by my co-workers... along with some of my 28's. I have pigpen butt in those according to them. :crying: I am pretty happy. Everything in my closet pretty much fits again. I dread having to get new clothes because we are tight on money... but I also look forward to buying pretty things. Ahhh such troubles. lol. Don't know if I mentioned my hubby got a new job. So proud of my man. He is working as a mechanic now. He actually gets his ASE Cert in January... but he got hired on to work under a master mechanic to learn as he goes until then.
  11. Hey, Guys! I've been having a lot of fun reading the new posts. How neat are the NSV? How about not having to take a ton of ibuprofen/aleve just so your knees/feet don't hurt too much to function? Or... Taking your blood pressure in a Target/Walmart and its normal??? I have lots...but anyhow! Did you all see the weather forecast for tomorrow??? CRAP! Not sure I'll be present for the RR.... I've only missed one....{sniff, sniff} But, after last months trip home, I think I'll listen to the forecast. Of course, things can change quickly here, so who knows until tomorrow. Have a great night all!
  12. Hey Folks! I had two great NSV's this week! In 2005, I had my achilles rupture and since that time, I haven't been able to stand on my tippy toes! I didn't have surgery to correct this, I wore a brace. Anyway, yesterday at Whole Foods, I was trying to reach the Brown Rice pasta and I just stood on my tippie toes and got it! Then it hit me! I had stood on my toes! I got tears in my eyes and just stood there for a moment of silence! Then today, I went swimming at Lifetime and I was able to get into the pool by way of the ladder! That's amazing! I usually have to take the steps! The ladder! Me!! The simple things in life that others have taken for granted! I am blessed to have achieved! I'm thrilled!
  13. Hi Kidlings! I just got back from Safeway! I was starving! AND voila, they have their little peanut butter tasting area AND I remembered that I can eat Peanut Butter on the Plateau Buster diet! So I did! It hit the spot! Mal: Good girl! You did great yesterday! I know you had a hard time after returning from the gym, but you were victorious! That is what you need to focus on! You got through the first day! BRAVO! I promise it gets easier! I can't believe you missed your One year Bandiversary! Happy Bandiversary Ms Mal! Congrats on completing your first year! You look wonderful and I know you have been granted a whole bunch of NSV's! Michelle: Hey, Lovergirl! I missed you at RR this last time! It's not the same without you! My daughter and I are going to Seattle so I might PM you and you can tell me where I should avoid getting a hotel! It's so hard when you make reservations online, you never know where you'll end up! I remember staying in Flagstaff one summer, our hotel was practically on the railroad tracks! What a nightmare! We couldn't get an hour of sleep! Toot Toot!!! I'm so glad to hear things are going well with the man in your life! Minidriver: You can be sappy all you want! I know I appreciate everyone here! They are very sincere and very caring! Good people! BTW, we're glad you found us and Dr. K! Be careful on the bench - Shelbi can't keep her hands to herself! She's totally out of control with the poking and pinching! I think she needs to go to the Naughty Chair! (you know, I love you Shelbi!) Sidann: Don't worry about the scale right now. I gained after surgery from all the fluid in my IV's -- then I didn't lose for a while. I looked at my excel spreadsheet the other day and saw how I went up and up during that time. All in all the trend started downward around the 3rd week -- then when I started solids it went up again before heading back down. It's a time to heal! Don't work out too hard on your bike yet, Dr. K told me 3 weeks to let my body heal before I could ride my bike. Well, gotta go Ladies! (I'm not referring to JT anymore, since he NEVER comes here! Brat Boy!):cursing: Be good! dee~
  14. NSV - my underwear are getting too big.
  15. Hey! I'll meet you! What time would be best and what date? I'd love to meet you! WE could have soup or just drinks! I am a big time Huskers' Fan! I went to UNL and graduated in 1985! I was there during the big Osborne era!!! GO Huskers!! Yup, that is how I feel when I have eaten too much! It's not a good feeling!!! I am a Water Bottle addict! I love all kinds of water bottles! I love your glasses! I just got a new pair also! I was going for that, "Hot for Teacher" look!!! I think you're right about not getting a fill. I'm in the same spot. AND it scares me to mess up a good thing. Even a tiny fill can ruin a your green zone and having an unfill can really mess things up! Sometimes it takes longer to get to the green zone after having an unfill. Tom and I discuss this everytime I go in. I made my next appt. for 6 weeks instead of 4. Congrats on all of those NSV's!! That is so scary! AND so close to your home! I hate when that happens. Even tho you know it's an isolated case and most likely not a random crime, it still is unnerving! I'm so happy to hear about Tucker-Baby! That's great news! There is an Atlanta Bread Company not far from Dr. K's office, we could get some soup OR we could hit those places off of Pena and Tower area if you want -- that would be closer to the airport and closer to Brandy-girl. I confess, I love Popcorn! The AMC theater near my home has this great little package deal. 8oz of popcorn (smaller than the kids size) an 8oz drink and candy. Or any combo! I usually get the popcorn and two water bottles. I know it's bad! BUT I really don't care! I sacrifice all of the time, if I want a tiny popcorn when I go to the movies, I think that's okay. Okay Guys, as some of you know I served a year in Haiti as a student missionary. I loved it there! More than anything, I absolutely loved the people! They are really struggling with the recent hurricanes. Please take a moment and say a prayer for the people of Haiti and all the others who have suffered from the bad weather. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Their lives are hard enough and a disaster like this is devastating.
  16. Welcome Sidann! Congrats on your upcoming surgery! Do you live here in Colorado? Join us at Red Robins each month for some extra support, if you do. You'll be thrilled with Dr. K and his staff! This surgery has been the best thing for me! Each new day brings me a new NSV! I love it!:rolleyes2: dee~
  17. Dee~ You are so sweet! I was only kidding about having a place to stay. =) My husbands Aunt and Uncle live in Aurora. She just recently had half her lung removed due to cancer... so I may just do the hotel thing so I don't impose. I also had to add.... I went out with my family to ride Quads the other day. It was a BLAST. I think 60 pounds ago it would sucked. I was all over zooming and zooming! Even rode double with the hubby which would have never happened before. Oh... and another NSV... I bought a size 24 bathing suit that I was hoping I could wear by the end of summer. Well it FITS! Granted a scootch too tight, but I can wear it and I do! lol. From a tight 32 to a 26... tight 24. This rocks!
  18. Dynamo~ I am happy for Todd that he is out of the hospital, but WOW, why wait until he has another episode? There has to be something they can do??? Darn it! I am sooo watching AI too! I cried, I laughed, and I lost A LOT of IQ points! I love the crazy sparkly girl...she is freakin out though!! I worked out tonight NSV 1330 mile on the elpitical...shooting for 12!! Did 1.5 on the bike and then finished my 3 miles on the treadmill (boring). Did the free weights and that was that...another workout done! I do seem hungrier after working out. I have an appointment for a fill on the 31st.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Good morning! Hope everyone had a better weekend than I did! I was so sick with a stomach virus. L I feel ok now but darn-it! I took up all my fun time!! Now I’m back at work and as usual do not feel rested like I should. But, I have an NSV!! Even though I didn’t feel good I STILL did my workout! I usually use not feeling good as an excuse to skip out, but not this time. It might have only been 20 minutes and 30 minutes calisthenics but still, I did it!! Tap, I so know how you feel, but remember – you are so close to goal now! Maybe you need a day to meditate and get back into perspective. Don’t fall off now… you can slack off after you get to goal. Not to the point of gaining though either. How do you feel? How is your health? I mean, maybe your body IS done. I know I’m just now contradicting what I just said, but that could be a factor too. There’s a lot to consider when saying we’ve finished. I put my goal up to 160. That I know is doable for me. I’ve been 160 before and I liked myself back then. But, at least if I get there I can always choose if I want to do more. The things my nutritionist really pointed out is that I need to substitute more snacks for fruit. So we agreed at this point I’ll up my one fruit a day to two. She also said no more liquid supplements, like protein drinks. She said a band patient really has no need for protein drinks and just tacks on calories needlessly. Also that if I’m not able to get my protein in through solids then I was too tight. I already knew that though! Lol She made a food suggestion. There are some food wraps in the deli section. They are rather good size and they are only 100 calories (2 points) and they have different flavors too. One last good thing she wanted me to do is make a list of 10 different types of breakfasts that fit nutritiously within 6-7 points. She thinks I’m being too repetitious with my eating and might help with my over snacking in the evenings. Okay, well I’ll check back in soon! Have a great day all!! How’s everyone else?
  22. Morning all. SLG - OMG and I'm so glad to hear you at least got some positive things going now. At least you don't have to fight the insurance on top of everything. I have every appendage crossed, hoping it will correct itself for you. I've been doing pretty well. I've tracked my foods for 4 days now. Yay! I think it's really helping out too. I can't do the catatonic eating now. I also have a huge NSV for me. I managed to go into Fry's grocery store now twice and didn't buy my Peanut Butter cookie. Woo hoo! I found some willpower again. Also, where the heck is Crystal? HAven't seen a posting from her in ages. Anyone hear from her? Hope she's doing well.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Morning everyone! Yeah, Shiny is back! Yesterday my band was VERY finicky...I didn't get 'food' into me until the late afternoon, and that was my morning smoothie! However, by 7 or so in the evening, I was ravenous - and had 1/2 turkey breast filet with an onion sauce, and some cherries and a handful of granola. Then just before bed, I had a few tbsps of peanut butter. I know, not a great choice, but I really wanted to get my protein in. Today, so far, so good. YEAH on the NSV! It's wonderful you met up with Jaime and St. Louis...I'd love to meet all of you someday, but I don't see it happening in the short term. Maybe someday. LilMiss - I am so sorry for what you are struggling with! Yes, go for an unfill - and get yourself back to a place where you can have a healthy relationship with food. Where you can eat solids, have more than 1 tbsp and enjoy! You are correct - how you are eating now is NOT healthy - physically or psychologically. Get an unfill. EXACTLY!!! Yes indeed! I get frustrated/concerned when I read the newbie posts about getting a fill on a schedule rather than based on a NEED...not a desire to lose X pounds quickly. Where are the VVs today?
  24. I'm doing well. My energy is back and even a bit of the endurance, which really took a hit immediately post-op. The scale continues to move down, but this week was only 1/2 lb...had to fight the irrational panic that this is a failure too...so, I have to accept the NSV of wearing a dress, with room to spare, to a party yesterday that I couldn't fit into for a wedding the week before surgery. When I got home a reflected on the party, I was amazed that food was not the primary focus for me, and that I enjoyed myself tremendously. I've started back at Curves, slow..but doing my routine. Still not eating more than 1/3 at any time..not really interested in food, so no fill scheduled yet. Journaling a lot and trying to deal with some of the emotional issues including friends who are clearly not dealing well with my changes. I've been reading Confessions of a Former Fat Girl...good read, lots of food for thought. Still settling into the new eating patterns, finding something that will work is a bit tricky as I go out for lunch as part of my professional comittments, but it just keeps getting easier to make the right choices.

Count me in too. I think everyone here knows my sap of a story, so I won't bore any of you with the crappy details. (Because life is much happier now) I'm 11 months out of surgery on the 8th of Oct. and have only lost about 30 pounds since being banded. I'm still waiting for my first fill, so no telling when I'll be losing more. My greatest NSV? I guess that I'm still alive and don't weigh over 300 pounds anymore. (No offense meant to those who still weigh over that by any means. We all have to start somewhere!)
