2 weeks post op pain and burning I am entering week 3 post op. Saw my doctor after one week said all was good and I started feeling better too, felt like I was returning to normal. Today I went to get out of bed and has a sharp pain and burning sensation on my Left side near where your stomach is, near my belly button. Sharp/ burning lasts a minute and then is extremely sore like a bruise. I called my doctor and I do not see them for another two weeks, he said I must have pulled my internal stitch but it just happened again this evening. I have been able to drink and eat my puréed foods with no issues. I am not running a fever either. I am just curious did this happen to anyone else, same location and feeling?

Hello all! My surgery was 6/27, and I was put on solids a week sooner than planned due to severe nausea that pills wouldn't touch. It helped tremendously. I have no pain when eating, only sometimes a slight discomfort once it hits my stomach when I'm full. I only eat eggs, chicken, tuna, some cooked veggies, and only tonight had shrimp. I'm worried that I don't get enough protein in during the day. I can only eat about 4 or 5 bites before being full, anymore makes me past the point. I don't drink water afterwards for an hour at least, and I've been working a lot harder to get water in during the day. Has anyone had this issue or worry a month out? Liquid diet question
ncgal44 replied to haroldrussi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been on my pre-surgery diet for a week and I was so confused on the right protien drink to get. I went to GNC and got the 100% Whey protien powder (just like the last poster) in Vanilla, Choclate, Banana Crea and Cookie's & Cream and they are the BEST!!!! Also, from GNC I got a drink mixer real cheap. It has a clear bottom cup and then the red top has a mixer attached that is powered by two batteries and it mixes the fire out of them drinks, a huge difference from trying to spoon mix yourself. Also, I ordered some Vanilla and Choclate on-line from Unjury.com and they were excellent too. GNC is cheaper though. I mix mine with skim milk. -
Mandi I am not yet banded but I was told by my surgeon that I had to have the testing to rule it out even though I didn't think I had it. (he has EVERYONE he does surgery on either do a clinic or oximeter test) They told me I would be surprised by how many obese people have it don't know it. They told me that now since I was diagnosed as having sleep apnea that I would have to have the CPAP for at least 2 weeks prior to surgery, while in the hospital and 2 weeks after surgery because by treating my sleep apnea it will promote healing. They also told me that the anestegiologist (sp?) will take more precaution due to the apnea. My thought on that was they should be taking that precaution on everyone anyway. I don't know really. I just wanted to pass on what I have been told. There are alot of others that never had it. My friend that is going to the same surgeon did an oximeter test at home and she was told that since her O2 stats never went below 97% she does not have to do the clinic because she doesn't have apnea. If you are not comfortable with the whole thing yet talk with your doctor and tell him your concerns. Let him explain his reasoning. I have read so many different opinions on this.

Liquid diet question....
gordonfamily3 replied to chrisssssy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every doctor has something different. Mine was a 2 week liquid diet pre-op and now he does a 2 week liquid after becuase patients were advancing themselves faster then they should. So it's best to ask your own doc. Some just require a clean out the weekend before, some a week of liquids, I have heard of some requiring a 4 wk...that would have been SO tough! Good Luck!!!! -
For me the hunger is not so much the issue as the full feeling is. I don't mind feeling hungry, just so long as the hunger can be satisfied without eating three hugh platefuls of food! lol.

4 weeks post op and depressed.
firelle replied to orion9941's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's pretty crappy. Weight lost is weight lost, right? And everyone loses at different rates, especially when their body is still recovering. You don't need to feel anxious and nervous about "doing it right" and meeting some statistical chart. This is a huge change for both you and your insides, and you're only 4 weeks out. You'll probably lose faster in some months than others, and slower in some months, anyway. It sounds like he just berated you for following the plan, and didn't offer any constructive help. That being said, I think it's definitely in your best interests to continue your follow-up care. You should have the right to request an appointment with your surgeon or the RN, and tell them that you're not comfortable meeting with the PA anymore. -
Hey all! I started my liquid diet on Monday and I’m down 9 pounds!! However, ever since “eating healthy” I feel like my body has gone into like a shock which I’m sure is normal. I get headaches every day (even wake up with them) and am not sleeping as long as I used to. I know this could be from lack of caffeine and change of diet. I am trying to avoid taking ibuprofen (motrin) as my surgery is next week (8/6). Any suggestions for headaches?

Thanks! I know I just need to take a breather and chill lol! How long we're you in the hospital? When/if I'm approved my doctor wants to schedule me for Sept 24 which is a Tuesday. I already talked to my boss about everything. Because I just started my job 3 weeks ago I won't be able to take much time off at all. Luckily I work in an office and I'm hoping ill be able to be back at work by the next Monday. -
I didn't start protein shakes until 1 week out according to my program. Only clear liquids for the first week. Call your NUT as soon as you can. Look through your paperwork, maybe you have something in there that was overlooked. I know I had to continuously refer to my sheet to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Good Luck!!!

Have you started your protein drinks yet? I had a ton of energy the first 2 weeks after surgery while I was home recovering, once I went back to work and back to my 5-6 hours of sleep , I started getting tired again

Thanks for letting me know your feelings, like you I'm a nurse and have been considering backing out. Although, I know that I really need this surgery. I'm staying positive, right now I'm doing my 6 mth supervised diet but trying not too lose too much weight so far I've lost 10 lbs and gained 3 back. I have a window of 12 lbs or my insurance want pay so trying to lose 2lbs a mth. The Protein shakes have worked very well and not as hungry. Since I've lost 10lbs in one week with the Protein shakes, I'm thinking I will do really well with the lapband. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey. Thanks again. -
I'm going to the Colorado river this weekend myself and my dr said your free and clear at 4 weeks!!!

They said I could get in water after 2 weeks. But I don't know if that means river or not?!?!

Many doctors (and more all of the time) are very supportive of bariatric surgery for their patients who qualify. Particularly PCP's that have patients that have had bariatric surgery and so have seen the truly remarkable results that are possible. But there are still some doctors who are not up-to-date on the surgeries and others (unfortunately) who are simply biased against obese patients. You can read stories of all three "types" right here on the forum. You're on the right track. Discuss it with your PCP. Tell him/her why you think it would be the right choice for you and listen to their response and their reasoning for being for or against. Doing your own research is also extremely important. There is a lot of great information online including this forum. There is also a lot of misinformation online so choose your sources carefully. Harvard Public Health, Mayo Clinics, WebMD, National Institutes of Health, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Institute of Medicine, the food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization are all excellent sources of information and there are many more. RnY and vertical sleeve are the most effective treatments known to medical science for obesity, type 2 diabetes and more than 30 comorbidities associated with obesity. Your PCP and/or your surgeon may recommend one surgery over another based on your medical history and your current medical status. If there is no compelling reason favoring one over the other, your surgeon may leave the choice up to you (mine did). Both surgeries are safe and effective and... You're gonna love the new you!!

Hello, I am on the 2nd day of my two week diet. I am drinking bariatric advantage meal replacement . The doctor recommended. Is it normal to gave alot of gas and diarrhea
-
I still can't believe I signed up for this. It hasn't quite hit me that it's real. I'm very nervous about the whole thing, but it's still far enough away to not be worried. I think when I start the protein shake diet for my two-week countdown, THEN I'll really start to feel it.

Pro Op Surgery Date Feb 13th
gator6.7 replied to MonicaTurner911's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you talk with your doctors about it! That could be a big thing for surgery I did no cleanse, just liquid diet for a week to shrink my liver (makes for a safer surgery) Good luck and hope you have a pain free surgery! If you have any questions feel free to message me! -
I've started several responses to your post. I think you are doing fine and those lab-coat wearing Napoleans need to respect your individuality. It sounds like you were doing a good job following the plan until they decided to discourage you. Please don't let these folks get you down. Stick with the plan. The final number will take care of itself. BTW, tomorrow marks four weeks since my surgery.

Question: Norovirus after surgery
QuilterGal posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last week I had a bought of the norovirus. If this happens after surgery, does your body react the same way? Do you throw up? Given that your stomach is now so small, would it pass more quickly into the intestines? -
Good News & Many Questions
favoredone replied to D1NOnlySexyLady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything varies from surgeon to surgeon.. But I was on a 7 day liquid diet prior to surgery...Most recommend chewable or liquid vits to start...i did chewables until I was 10 weeks out and then started on gummies... I did a liquid Vit D because it was very low....I'm not sure about ceasing your meds... your surgeon will tell you all of that... I had to get my IUD (Mirena) removed... hopefully I can get it replaced next week!!! Congrats and I so happy for you!!! -

Telling Family
Barisaxylady replied to Barisaxylady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I finally told my sister and she is behind me which was a huge relief! Now onto mom. Will probably make a special trip out to see her o tell her. Hate to tell her over he phone. It will only be one week before the surgery but that's the only time I have. My sister recently had some medical problems and was very secretive around my mom about it. Not exactly sure why but that's her business. But moms hurt over this and my waiting so long I think will just compound the problem. I wish she would realize we are both adults, both in our thirties. I really think that she raised us to be so independent, it's backfiring on her! Sheesh, my other sister lives in New Zealand so she know next to nothing about what's going on in her life. Sorry, starting to ramble. Just very nervous about telling her but I feel I need to. Maybe she will surprise me and offer to come out and help with the kids. Will keep everybody posted. -
I told my parents I was having the band, which I was, and they were very supportive. Then insurance knocked me back for the band, but I could still get the sleeve. When I told them about the stitch, they were dead against it, thought it was too drastic. A few days later, told them it had been a mistake, I was getting the band. I have been sleeved for a week. If they ever ask me which I have, I'll tell the truth, until then, there's no harm in them thinking I have the band.
