Pre-op Eating amount (no fills yet)
yemy replied to Nick85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm experiencing the same thing. I'm in my second week of post op and I'm hungry alot of the times. I try to drink alot of water. I forgot about the jello so thats a great reminder, thanks. I'm just trying to tough it out between meals. -
I’m 3 weeks post op and I feel the same way. 21lbs down. I find myself having intrusive thoughts like “will this surgery really work for me?” Also I feel like I haven’t felt full yet.

I didn't have a BM until 3 days post-op and it was very watery. When I had my consult with the program nurse she said that was fine as long as things were moving. Since we are talking poop I'll share that at two weeks out BM's have varied in consistency which seems reasonable to me since I'm on a full liquid diet still. A noisy tummy sounds pretty common based on other posts I've read on this board. I know mine has made some interesting sounds, especially in the first week! I feel you on the gas an uncomfortable burps! Not pleasant, but I tihnk also common right after surgery. You will have gas inside you from your procedure that can take time to get out. Walking helps a lot with this, and for me made the burps less painful. In that first week or so when I felt "bubbly" I would just pace my living room and this helped a lot. It also helped me to get my fluid in early on if I was up and moving while I sipped. Others have mentioned that stomach acid can feel like hunger and I think high stomach acid can be common post-op for VSG at least. My Dr. puts all his patients on omeprozole for 6 months as a standard to keep stomach acid low.

Was banded 2.17.12 and I am approaching week 4. What comes after mushies? Soft food? What does that mean? Thanks!

Challenges getting Soup or Protein Shakes down Post Op 10 days
Lorey_a posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
10 days Post-Op and still on liquid. I notice if I drink more than three swallows of my protein shake or creamy soup I get a discomfort as it goes down or rather settles into my stomach like a sensation that feels like gas build up and the soup or drink is trying to get through and then creates a pressure that pushes it up so I feel this constriction and then need to burp to relieve the pressure is the best way to describe it. I swallow two or three spoonful's of soup as an example then wait about 20 minutes before attempting more. Am I eating too many bites at once? Has anyone else had this feeling and or is it normal and passes with continued healing? Just thinking this will be a miserable existence if this is what I experience for the remainder of my life while trying to take in nutrition at every meal. Anyone? -
I'm with @@Proud2BMe Just keep going with your protein and water as directed... The stall is completely normal and is discussed constantly on the boards.. Look for a thread titled "Embrace The Stall" or something similar...
-
mine lasted two weeks. They usually last anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days if you need to. As long as you're following the program, the stall WILL break - they always do...

Dumping. malabsorption. after bypass surgery
catwoman7 replied to Doo Lally's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
most RNY'ers don't dump. The statistic I see thrown around a lot on these boards is that only about 30% of us dump. I don't know if there's any hardcore medical research behind that statistic, but suffice it to say, lots of us don't dump. I've never dumped. Teeth: I used to worry a lot about this. I've done a fair amount of reading on it and have come to the conclusion that yes, it happens - but it's not very common. I've been very active on this and other boards for a few years, and I rarely see posts about teeth problems. I asked my dentist about this, and he said he's never seen this in his WLS patients (of course, I have no idea how many WLS patients he has - could only be 10 as far as I know....). He told me to keep on top of my supplements and also, he gave me a prescription for a high-fluoride toothpaste to use nightly, and he does a fluoride varnish on my teeth every six months just as a precaution. He said all of this will go a long way in preventing problems. weakness and fatigue: the first few weeks after surgery, yes - but that's from anesthesia and the healing and the fact we're taking in so few calories. Since then, none. I have more energy than I've had in years. Malabsorption: I'm 2.5 years out and labs have been great. I can't speak to prescription drugs as I'm not on any... -
Hey, I think you are doing really well... but the main focus should be on healing and letting your new tummy settle in, the weight loss is just a bonus at the moment. My first few weeks were exactly the same... the first 2-3 weeks, the weight feel off, then slowed right down and now at nearly 16 weeks out it is slow but steady; I average about 10lb a month... I used to think that was slow... but now I realise that it's average and a healthy way to lose weight. Remember to take you measurements... this way if you feel your weight loss is slow you have the measurements to reiterate how well you are doing... Good luck and keep up the good work

I'm 3 weeks out and fatigue quickly although its getting better.

Mine was due 4 days after surgery, and I went to the bathroom after I checked in, and there it was!! Ugh!! It really wasn't a big deal. She said it happens all the time. Let them know when you get checked in and are changing into your robe. They got me a pad and mesh panties. During surgery you'll have a catheter, but it's not a problem. Post op I was given the choice of a pad or an adult diaper. Sounds weird, but I took the diaper. I was only getting up to walk, and wasn't using the bathroom because the catheter was still in. Just made it easier. Once the catheter came out I use my own underwear and pad/tampon as usual. I didn't get to shower until after I was discharged on day three (two nights), so bathing wipes (basically bigger sized baby wipes) were a lifesaver!! Don't worry about it, you'll be fine ~*~ Find me on YouTube: Trisha's Sleeve Story ~*~

I lost 17 pounds my first month. I stalled at week three and didn't lose again until my second month started. I lost 11 pounds my second month, and I lost 10 pounds my third month. I now know that I stall for a total of about ten days per month, thanks to my cycle. I'm a slower loser, but that still averages out to more than three pounds a week. I've never lost 3 pounds a week before. Yes, it's frustrating. Yep, we want to compare ourselves to everyone else. Women that were sleeved the same month as me, with similar stats, are already more than halfway to goal. But you know what? I am losing. I'm losing faster than I've ever lost weight before. And even though I feel like the slowest loser in the world I can reach my goal in less than nine months from my surgery date. That's just four to five more months. Once I put it in perspective, there's nothing to be upset about. It used to take me four months of near starving misery to drop 30 pounds before. In comparison, this is almost effortless. Keep up the good work, you're doing just fine. ~Cheri

Full Liquids Fill Me Up- How Do You Get All Protein In?
sassypants replied to jennrus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can put some protein powder in your soup, blend it with a little milk a natural one and add it to creamy soups if you have them (its kinda gross with non creamy soups) I don’t know what you were told but I wasn’t expected to get 100g of protein in every day to start with I was told try and get in as much as you can between 50-100g a day but don’t worry. Water wasn’t my friend so I drank decaf tea a lot still do and flavoured water but check the labels on the flavoured water some are nasty buggers full of crap. I was one of the people told fluid intake was far more important than protein for the first few weeks. But yeah you do feel like your constantly drinking taking a med drinking a med drining drinking drink when you move on its then the waiting between eating and drinking too lol If you can stand like hot water with lemon in it try that warmer drinks tend to go down easier, if I liked hot water I would have sipped on that instead! Just do what you can do and don’t feel you HAVE to do what other people are or were doing at the same stage as long as your doc/nurse/nut are ok with how your going you will be fine. -
It happens to all of us. At 3 weeks I stalled for 2 weeks and than lost 4 lbs. then I was stalled for another week and just lost 2. I guess for me this is going to be a trend.

Stall at week 3?

Did you stall after three weeks of losing or at the start of your third week? -
Am I doing something wrong?
Forsythia replied to Lallylocks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many calories are you getting a day? By 2 months out I was eating between 800 and 1200 calories per day. Are you logging on my fitness pal or some other tracker? You might need to tweak things (add in weights, try interval training, eat more?) if you feel you are not where you want to be. But honestly if you are losing inches you are not doing anything wrong. I lose inches when I stall out. I'm 7 months out and have lost 100 lbs and it gets to be more work. Don't stress out about it at 3 months. You are doing things correctly. -
My dr says no more than 20 lbs at work for six weeks. I am picking up the kids on occasion and I have already carried shopping bags, but I feel great and try to mostly just use my arms. I am 13 days out.

severe headache
Stargurrl* replied to Time2BHealthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a similar issue like two weeks after surgery. I thought my head was going to explode, I had a constant wooshing sound in my ears and my sight was off. My primary doc was treating me for a sinus infection....wrong. I ended up being diagnosed with PTC (pseudo tumor cerebre) and that was only b/c I went to get a new rx for my glasses and she saw that I had swelling in my optic nerves. I had to get a spinal tap to relieve the pressure. And I've been okay since. ( its been about 2 1/2 months since) PTC is most common in overweight women of childbearing age. I hope you feel better : ) -
I thought we were no longer suppose to get hungry!?
AMJK79 replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The way it was explained to me is that the hormone slowly leaves your body after surgery. It takes about three weeks. I believe you will still get hungry it just won't be as intense as before. Sent from my iPhone -
I've talked to several people about pizza. Two friends had surgery about 6 weeks ago and they both said that they can eat about half a slice of pizza.

How long was your tummy sore post op? I know it'll be several weeks before I'm sleeping on my stomach but sleeping on my sides hurts too. I had surgery the day before yesterday, by the way. Thanks.

Sleeved on May 30th. This. Is. Different.
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to hfdwife0608's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know it is going to sound silly but get someone to pat you on the back, like if they were burping a baby. I had my sleeve done 4 weeks after I had my daughter so we were pretty good at burping a baby, when I would get one of those gas pains I'd get my husband to pat me on the back and sometimes it would help, not always but sometimes. At that point I was willing to take whatever relief I could get any way I could get it!! -
Awesome! I had exact same experience...my pre-op diet did the same thing - two weeks before my surgery, my blod work was not good and they were talking about rescheduling until i lowered my HbA1C. Keep up the good work and be healthy!
