    December Fitness Challenge

Wow - I need to get my a$$ in gear! I took the last few days off - tired on day, the other two days (spent all day at the hospital with my mom waiting for surgery). At any rate - no excuses...gotta get my butt moving today. Heading over to the gym right now. I have to do another 25 miles this month for my original goal and 30 for my revised! I dug myself a hole!

    December Fitness Challenge

I'm at 39 miles to my (revised) goal of 54 miles. Did 3 miles on the treadmill this afternoon and burned more calories than ever before by increasing the intensity. Had a stressful Christmas Eve morning...my 14 year old son has had the flu and he fainted and collapsed in my arms this morning. We got him to the ER and everything checked out OK. Just need to keep pushing fluids and rest. I thought about what I would have done pre-op after a morning like that...I would have bagged out of the gym, I'm sure. I would have drank many coffees (light with sugar or honey) to get thru the day and eaten lots of food and Christmas goodies. Instead, when we got home, I made some scrambled eggs and turkey sausage, then headed to the gym. Came home and now I'm enjoying a strawberry protein shake and ready to wrap some presents. What a difference 6 weeks makes, huh? Merry Christmas everyone!
  4. I have to admit I have seen many people mention it on here but had never tried it till today. I failed with the sleeve and I’m trying other things before I go the revision route. The NP said to try tea, especially when I know it hasn’t been long since I have eaten and surprisingly I think it worked.

    December Fitness Challenge

Trying really hard to ignore the f*&^ing scale and just stay on track! Just got back from the gym and walked faster and varied the incline more than previous workouts. If you were at the gym, I was the fat angry girl on one of the middle treadmills. I'm not seeing the scale go down and I'm constipated - yeah, stay out of my way. Anywho, I'm at 33 miles to my (revised) goal of 54 miles. Gave a great day everyone!

    Tricare Anyone?

Hi there. . . Yes, you can switch to Prime when he deploys. You will not be covered for the sleeve with Standard unless you find an MTF to take you with Standard which is a rare, rare, almost never happens find. Here's the catch, since VSG is NOT a covered procedure, anything you have done upon his return and you go back to Standard MIGHT not be covered by Tricare. Now a way around this is to have your PCM pull annual labs for you, but NOT mention it is follow up care for VSG on the coding. There is minimum follow up after the first few weeks. For example, many patients go abroad for surgery, come home after 48-72 hours, and only have labs performed annually by their PCM, and they are doing fine. My MTF requires follow ups every 6 months for the first 3 years. But, we do have free access to psychs and nutritionists if needed. I recommend that your PCM communicate with whichever surgeon you get to perform your surgery. I'm up in the NW Florida Panhandle by Pensacola. Eglin AFB is where I had my band to sleeve revision performed. MTF Locator. http://www.tricare.mil/mtf/ Tricare won't cover the sleeve outside of MTF or VA hospitals. So don't waste your time trying to jump hoops for that surgeon. It won't work. I've fought for myself ( and with friends) in every Tricare area, Tricare South, West and North. One friend went congressional and still got denied through a civilian after getting pre-approval and everything. You'll have to put in some footwork to find an MTF that will take you on as a patient for the sleeve. But, I will say that you should not settle for just any surgery. The band really does suck especially if you can't get fills/unfills easily. I've been there done that, and had all the lovely band issues that come with it. Certain plans with Medicare are starting to cover the sleeve, Tricare might be following suit, but I've been hearing that trash since January 2009. But, Medicare wasn't covering the sleeve at all, now they are on some of the plans. So, fingers, toes, every part crossed Tricare pulls their head out, and will start covering it. If you need help, please feel free to contact me. I've been through the trenches with Tricare on this issue. I know how the process works as most MTFs follow a similar program. I'm more than happy to help.
  7. Tomorrow will be one week out. I a doing 1 week clear, 1 week full fluids, 1 week puree, then soft... My concern is I have been sipping sipping sipping. Today I got a medium wawa chicken noodle. They just gave me broth. I ate the whole thing in like 10-15 minutes. I measured it to be around 8-9 oz. Should that have gone in so easily? I didnt feel like I was overful or anything. No issues at all. Does Fluid just go in easy after a week? I guess im concerned with the amount. Seems too much to me but again...no discomfort at all. At 5:30 I had 6 oz of broth and 2 popsickles that are 20z each then 4 oz of protien drink. I did feel full but no discomfortAll within an hour? Do I just have a bigger stomach or do fluids go right through? Tanks! OH BTW!! HI!!! LOL. Been reading, I had a band to sleeve revision. Had band in July 2008 and lost 115 pounds roughly. Went from 350 to 235. Gained and lost a bit here and there with band the last year amd was hovering around 245-250. Decided to get sleeve. Lots of reasons....hated band. February 2011 band came off but because of scar tissue was not sleeved. Sleeved last Thursday at 260lbs. Down to 250.

August 29th for part 2 of my band to sleeve revision!

    Water and sleeve stretching

Big debate on if you can stretch your sleeve. Very few people need a revision..Enough said. A couple gulps and you feel uncomfortable. To me, it sounds like you are feeling the restriction from your surgery. I distance run. I can't chug or gulp water at the aid/refueling stations on the route. I feel the same sensation you are describing. Stop gulping and chugging water. Start sipping.

    What do i do?!?

I was very scared about dying myself! That was probably my only concern lol Mind you I had 2 operations, I had the lap band and then my revision to the gastric sleeve so I had double the "panic/scare". But at the end of the day, I looked around and saw that everybody else came out alive and did very well. And I also knew the risks were very low for someone like me. I prayed and I believed that I would be alright. Sometimes you have to let go and believe with all your heart that you will be alright, and not only that, you will be very successful with your tool. Because alot of people do forget to realize that this is just a "tool". So pray not only to have a sucessful surgury day, but also to lose weight and keep it off! Everything else (your fears) will only be major distractions and are geared to throw u off track, stay focused
  11. I did the same thing in 2009 with the lapband. I'd read a few things on the internet, made an appt with a dr and within 2 weeks I had completed my nutritionist and psych appts and was in surgery. Had no idea what I was getting myself into. Not sure why my insurance didn't require at least a time of consideration, but they moved quickly. While I loved my band - until I didn't and I lost most of my excess weight with it, it finally ahd enuf of my destruction to it. I couldn't figure out how to eat slowly, making me vomit frequently. Causing a slip. When I was facing a revision, I did alot of research on the RNY and the sleeve. I had gained 30 lbs in the year my band was unfilled after the slip so all I had to lose was 40 lbs (bmi was 28 at 174 lbs). I felt the RNY was a bit drastic for my purposes. But I knew if I just had the band removed without a revision, I would be back up to 250 soon. So while I did virtually NO research on my first wls, I did tons of research for my sleeve. WHile I'm 13 months out I still have 15 lbs to goal. It's going very slowly now, very slowly. The first 100 lbs is easy peasy compared with the last 15. But do I regret surgery? Never. Not the lapband or the sleeve. Comparing the 2 would be another whole post so I won't bore anyone with those details. Do ur research tho. U can't back pedal afterwards... Good luck!
  12. Oh the lapband, the first year was great. I was mostly compliant and lost 65 lbs. Then, in one weekend, I thought I was going to die. Turns out I had a slippage with 2 little pouches. So I went in for a revision. I tried my best to hold onto that band. I didn't want to gain the weight back. You know the deal, vomiting all the time, but worst than that, trapped gas. So after another year of all that, it had to come out. Now, 3 yrs later, I'm heavier than ever at 343. In this year I have been down to 313 and back up to this weight. I can drop and gain the same 7/lbs over and over. Water weight. So now I want to thoroughly investigate the sleeve. My concerns are #1: excessive Scar tissue as that was to blame for band removal, #2 do you get trapped gas with sleeve, heck I still have it, and #3: I have Dercum's Disease. Does anyone else have Dercum's and WLS? So can some of you help me make a decision? I'm not doing good on my own. I have severe osteoarthritis and this weight is dragging me down. I thought I had done my investigating with the band but no, I didn't do enough. Really, mostly concerned about Scar tissue... Please give me your thoughts.

Band to sleeve one surgery or two?

My Dr. told me that It would be a little higher risk to do both at the same time, but it would also cost less to do it at the same time. I had my band removed 2.5 years ago and my comorbidities are now worse especially my B/S. I'm going through the process over again and will now meet with my surgeon again in 4 weeks for sleeve surgery. I don't weigh a whole lot at this time, but need to do this for health reasons. I hope you get to the right place with your revision and things get better for you very quickly....

Band to sleeve one surgery or two?

I was banded in 2013 and it slipped. Most like due to the fact that I continued bad habits like bread, rice and other junk. I had the band removed and revised to a sleeve on jan 23rd. I feel great. 1st week was the worst. Pain from where the port was. My surgeon was excellent. He said there was a lot of scar tissue but he was able to it. Weight loss is slower due to this being my second surgery but loss is a loss and I will take it. Not screwing up this time. Good luck!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Revision... Aetna

O-town. My dr is making me do all the requirements as if it was the primary surgery. How do I avoid this? Should I call Aetna? Get a different dr? I need revision due to GERD.

RNY because of GERD, not weight loss?

I am only 5 pounds overweight now but may need a revision to bypass for GERD
  18. Secondtimelucky

RNY because of GERD, not weight loss?

I’m scheduled for bypass in a week. It’s a revision from a sleeve. I’m having bile reflux and that’s the primary reason I’m doing the surgery. I’ve had some pretty mixed feelings about it, but logically it is the best choice.
  19. There are a number of threads, including mine, about having RNY for GERD in the Revision forum.
  20. I'm 9 months out from VSG, saw the bariatric clinic follow up staff, and am so GRR now. I never had that "I'm never hungry" feeling once I recovered from the surgery but shrugged it off. I could drink 2 oz. fluids at once literally the day of surgery so I was like... OK, cool. Weight loss was slow despite being diet compliant and exercising, stopped at 25 pounds after 3 months, then gained 10 back after a foot injury (off again since getting back to my daily 5k jog). I've been having reflux for ages despite avoiding trigger foods/drinks and I get hiccups 20+ times a day regardless of how I'm eating, drinking, or not doing either. So they referred me back to the surgeon's office. Last week I had an upper GI study. The radiology report says I have mild decreased lower esophageal motility and mild outpouching at the fundus... um, I shouldn't HAVE a fundus after gastric sleeve. The weakened esophageal muscles explains the fluid that backs up when I drink sometimes, especially if not sitting straight up or standing, and the chest lock I feel when eating dryer foods or meats. I'm confused about the fundus. Is the radiologist mistaken and unfamiliar with VSG anatomy? Did the surgeon leave part of my fundus? The surgeon's office is awful at communicating so I'm in limbo. They didn't even call me before ordering the upper GI, they just had the radiology department call to schedule me without notice. All I can think about is where I go from here. Meds for the reflux and live with the hiccups? Revision surgery for the reflux and basically start over (the big GRR)? Anyone else have anything similar like a retained fundus, outpouching, or GERD with esophageal motility disorders like weakened muscles after VSG surgery?
  21. Can someone tell me a sucess story? I am two years out from the Band... I get stuck.. I have a difficult time eating.. but I have only lost 25 pounds. I am very discouraged to the point of not trying anymore. I was watching so carefully and when it stopped coming off... for months and months... I just started to eat ... I gained about 7 pounds.... I don't think I am a "band Person" Has anyone had a similar experience and had a revision that was succesful in weight loss? Or am I just doomed!.... So sad,,, so upset with myself... and so discouraged... I have never felt the "stop hunger" feeling they told me I would have.... its is hell.
  22. In my opinion, I'd wait a while longer. I had my band placed in march of 07, and we have had a love/hate relationship until recently. I can't put my finger on exactly what changed, my mental attitude towards the band, different attitude, body adjusting to banding? if that's even possible, etc... Whatever the case, I've lost over 40lbs since February. I lost 40lbs from 2007 - 2010 and felt like a complete band failure. I still check this thread out all the time, because I thought for such a long time I would have to have a revision. A few relatives of mine had RNY and did so great with it, but I think I'm actually catching up. You also have to wonder why you think your band is not working for you... Or are you not working with your band. I think all of us getting any kind of weight loss surgery knows that we will have some kind of issue with eating, drinking, etc after surgery, but I also think we just get sick of it. Like, stop... I am so sick of PB'ing... But not wondering why you are PB'ing in the first place. Sometimes it's just an out of the blue thing for me, othertimes, it's my own fault... Also, not to punish yourself, but keep a food diary. Just to see your intake actually is. If its more than 1600 calories, you're eating to much. Under 800, way to few. Maybe its the food you are eating. Too much of a good thing is still too much... I learned that the hard way. Maybe not enough exercise? Maybe you've given up so there is only ice cream and no exercise. Its ok, I've been there. But just be honest with yourself. You can take some time off from the band. The best thing I ever did was join weight watchers for 1 month. That was all I needed. Learning to eat proper foods, with the proper portions. Also, getting back to my original BAND rules helped. Slow down while eating, no drinking, limiting liquid cals, Protein first, veggies second, etc... and keep posting on here. There are so many people in you situation... Just remember, the science of losing weight is sooooo simple. Calories in versus calories out, but it is one long, painful, emotional roller coaster! We're all on the ride together!
  23. hi i just had my lapband removed and a revision done 10/25/11. there is a forum
  24. I am newly surgically approved for a revision from band to RNY. I have had my band for close to two years. Will go directly from band to bypass. The "plan" at this point is september will be my surgery. teri
  25. I am going this Thursday to see if I qualify for a revision. I lost about 47lbs total and have been filled and unfilled twice once for dehydration and the other for reflux. I have now gained back almost all the weight but I have been unfilled this time since November 08.
