Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
MargoCL replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How do your clothes feel? How do you feel in your body (not looking at scale)? When I don't see the scale move I judge on my clothes and how I feel personally. I am seeing subtle changes to my body. My legs are thinner, my neck is thinner, facial features are more prominent vs fat round face. Take the NSV into account. I'm not going to say muscle weighs more than fat because 1lb is 1 lb. The difference is a pound of muscle is smaller than a pound of fat. I know you feel discouraged, but try to see all the other positive things happening to your body right now. Take a picture of you today with an outfit from the past and compare it to a picture of you wearing that same outfit. I bet you will see a giant difference! I bought a 1-piece jumper 2 weeks before surgery to do just that. I use that jumper as my motivation to keep on my path because I really don't like how I looked pre-surgery. Find 1 thing to be happy with on yourself every day and focus on something else besides the scale. You're a beautiful young lady, don't be discouraged, you have a lot of supporters right here to help you through those difficult times. -
That's FANTASTIC that your BP and meds have dropped/been cut so much! Do you feel better at your lower doses? I think that's probably the best NSV of all - a genuine improvement in health, even if you don't feel particularly different...

Chris I know you're going to do fine and be on your losing way very soon. You're going to do great girl! NSV - I actually feel smaller today. yeap for the first time since I've had this band I can finally say I actually feel smaller than when I started Not a big deal to most but, to me.....and this head had to catch up with my weight loss  Keep on keeping on my friends! Hope you're all doing well and shrinking!!!!

I'm so excited for you, SweetBean - wear that 'Rockin' outfit now, if you have an occassion for it! I'm sure you'll look HOT! Hang in there, BKMom - Like SpideyMom said, celebrate the NSV's - you've made a choice and are on the path to an overall healthier lifestyle - that is a HUGE accomplishment to be proud of!!! And Ann - congrats on the size 8 I think I was size 8 at birth (my Mom told me I was the largest baby in the nursery at the time ) I'm currently in a size 12, which I never thought I would fit in again, and I'm hoping for a 9/10 - that would be heaven for me! My NSV this past week was on our family vacation to the beach - I was boogie boarding and body surfing with my young boys, making sand castles, and I went for a 25 minute run barefoot on the beach at sunset. I felt so light and full of energy - what a HUGE difference from last summer! And I was down 2 lbs when I got home - I LOVE THE BAND!!!!

I just had a NSV: A pair of denim capris, and a tee-shirt I have not worn in a year and a half fit- PERFECTLY!, took a shot in the dark trying the capri's on, and they slid right on and buttoned no problem!!!!!!

sleep Apena NSV I found out last June that I had sleep apena and started using the CPAP machine about a month before being banded. I had a pressure setting of 12 and now down to a 7. I have lost close to 50lbs since being banded 6 months ago. I have been having problems with to much air etc. along with not wearing the mask the whole night. I talked to the doctor about it and he suggested that we try using a dental device instead. Insurance approved me for the device and I have started to use it and it is great. Here are pictures of the device. The dentist who deals only with sleep apnea feels that this device will work for me and that she wants to do a sleep study in about 4-6 months to ensure that it is working. If it is working then I will not need to use the CPAP. My best NSV so far is my SIL telling me I looked good. In a text but none the less... We have always had a little battle with our weights. When she was skinny I was fat, vice versa. She is not a her thinest but a nice size. I just wish we could get back to the best friends we used to be. But her sending me the text really brightened my day yesterday!

This is a duplicate post I made earlier......but I think I made it in the wrong section before. Had a cool NSV yesterday that foreshadows the tremendous NSV potential ahead....... So.....I'm a dude who gives not two thoughts to clothes. I pretty much wear cargos or khakis at work with one of our company monogramed shirts. I prefer the polo style. Days off work....same basic deal....just cargos with t-shirts or polo shirts. Suit and tie on church Sunday. This is how it's been for a long time. I've been out of work just under three weeks now, recovering from sleeve & umbilical hernia surgery. Most of this time I've been wearing a few pairs of Under Armour long pants, shorts and t-shirts. These have gone from snug & in need of a "pre-wear stretch" prior to surgery.....to now being baggy and saggy once coming out of the clothes drier. Funny stuff. I never wore clothes from the drier.....and I usually did the "shirt stretch deal" as I put them on. Now it's obvious. Old stuff doesn't fit anymore. My wife and I had some events we wanted to go to yesterday, Halloween day. I'd gone out earlier in the morning and had a haircut and also got my beard trimmed up (I'd shaved prior to the surgery, but since then it's grown back). Anyway, came home yesterday morning with a ball cap on and wearing my normal UA pants and t-shirt. After she got ready I went and got another shower (can't stand that feeling after a haircut) and got dressed. I wore a pair of cargos that I bought the week prior to the surgery....now 3 weeks old. They'd just come out of the drier. Buttoned up they kept falling down as I was trying to find a smaller shirt to wear. Finally found a never worn polo that is made from a no-stretch dry-tech type fabric. It was hiding in my closet among the few smaller clothes that are in there. Got the shirt on and belt cinched down to keep my freaking pants up. Looked in the mirror as I was brushing my teeth and thought, "Alright, dude.....you look human again". I walked downstairs to grab a glass of Water and ran into my wife. She looked at me and burst out into tears. I'm like, "WTH ????" and she's smiling while crying and gives me a huge hug. "Have you seen yourself ?", she asked. It was one of those spontaneous affirmations outa the clear blue that reminded me that I made the right decision in getting the surgery. Later on in the day she commented....."Have you noticed how you are now walking......no limping". I did notice. I've only needed Advil on 3 occasions since the surgery as opposed to needing it 3 times per day every day prior to wls. It's only been 2+ weeks since the surgery (down 31 pounds).....and 6 months since my weight loss efforts began (down 89 pounds).......and I already feel years younger. It's at the point that I can't even conceive of how much younger I"ll feel once I reach the 1 year post-op mark. 47 now.......will probably feel like 27 after the first year. Looking forward to wearing the same type of of button fly Levi's I wore in college. I've still got the old leather jacket that wore then, too. It's got some road rash from two motorcycle wrecks that I walked away from. It's going to feel great being that same guy once again......just a wiser & worn version. 47 heading toward 27. I'm down with that.

Awesome NSV tonight.... Went to a Detroit Tigers game. I was walking ahead of our pack, or with the pack, and did not struggle in the least to keep up. Zipped up and down the stairs. Walked up steps in parking deck without feeling like I couldn't breathe. Wearing jeans that are now too big that I hadn't worn since 2008 - friends noticing how loose they were. And of course, sitting in stadium seat comfortably. Awesome night!

I have been doing a LOT of shopping online lately for new clothes because nothing in my closet fit any more. I ordered all size 6 in pant and dress sizes and size small in tops. The clothes all arrived this week and everything fit! I mean everything! And not only that, one skirt was a size small and it was too big! I laid out a pair of pants on the bed today and when I glanced over I couldn't believe how tiny they looked. WOW! The old (big) me can not believe my newest NSV - my mind needs to catch up with my new body...

Totally Excited..I was able to start wearing 1X shirts this week. Seeing as I started at 3X only 2 months ago.. I am SUPER happy!! yay for a great NSV!!!

So I guess this is a SV and not a NSV, but I made it through the holidays and lost weight! To be honest, I'm shocked because we were in Switzerland and everyone kept feeding us cheese fondue and potatoes! Not to mention lots of sugary goodies....I remember the days before my sleeve and the holidays meant at least a 5 lb gain.....life is good and I love my sleeve! Just wrote my LAST post on my blog A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF A SLEEVER. I posted 24 photos....12 BEFORE and 12 AFTER....all my after photos are the best NSV's ever. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

My first two NSVs this week! :w00t: 1) weighed in today at 247.2, which at 5'6, gives me a BMI of 39.9! I know that's still obese but it made me feel SOOO good. That means I've lost 5 BMI points since July! Thought it was pretty stinkin' cool! 2) I've been wearing the same one pair of size 24 stretch jeans since June....this week I tried on a pair of my old size 22s (which DON'T stretch), not expecting them to fit, but guess what? THEY FIT!!! :lol0: I am so excited. I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out and already I can see and feel my sleeve working for me. I've been working out (and actually liking it, SHH don't tell anyone! :crying:) and while I don't have the pickup in energy yet, I know that I'm on the right track to achieving my goals. Thank you all so much for your constant encouragement & advice.

I'm really looking foward to this upcomming year, We just spent the whole last year starting a new life and now we'll spend the next one begining to live our new lives. Congrats to all as each of our days aproach. I went shopping to get a couple of things to wear on our 4th of July getaway. I found myself with a NSV Size 10 jeans!! All I could think was a size 9 is just around the corner, I can't remember the last time I bought single didget clothing. I hope ya'll have a great weekend!!!!

I found a cute white denim skirt and tried on the size small. It was too big. maybe it was mis-sized, but I'm taking it as an NSV anyway. A year ago I could not have squeezed into it at all.

Had a huge NSV victory this weekend. My 3y/o son rode his bike and I ran along side him. Not only did I keep up, I was actually running faster, and not getting tired!! To have the energy and health to play with my son nearly had me in tears. I'm so happy

Heck no am I saying you don't have a life, so hope you don't take it that way!!! I was being sarcastic regarding the topic of posting because you have too much time on your hands, I was actually referring to me..LOL. And right now, I do have time on my hands (hope I don't jinx myself). And you are also very right, I am not having any band problems so I guess posting here is a NSV (non-scale victory)..lol I like what you have to say as well -
This weekend, my family went to Winthrop, WA - it is set up as an Old West Town. We decided to do the old antique pictures. We've done these every 3 or 4 years since the boys were young. Normally, I have to wear some old dowdy thing to either fit me or not show all my rolls. And, the strings in the back never tied very well - left my butt hanging out the back. This year, I wore a Saloon Girl Bustiere and fishnet stocking with high heels. And get this ... the strings wouldn't tie again. But, not because I was so fat. The strings couldn't get the outfit tight enough. They had to use clamps in the back to keep it on me. It was amazing! I just grinned the whole time. I planted my butt up on the bar, grabbed my fake bottle of Jack Daniels and whooped it up for the camera. WHAT A BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm the same - I only get weighed at the dr. Last time I was weighed was 10/3. I won't get weighed again until 12/10. I try to concentrate more on the NSVs!
