  1. Hi Barbara, I am going to be banded on 06/07/2010, had my pre-op visits yestrerday. I too started out at 270, began this journey last September after seeing some not so flattering pictures of my self and realized that I need help with my weight. I have lost 21lbs, and weighed in at 250 at the pre-op visit, I am hoping to get to 140. If you want to chat and be buddies please write back. Good luck with your journey. Michele

    Pouch stretch?

I worry about it as well. I'll say this, it takes some work to really stretch a pouch out. My best friend had a RNY GB 12 years or so ago. He eats whatever he wants, and has failed miserably at the whole weight loss thing (from 700 pounds to 400) but even with that, he can't eat more than a single piece of pizza at a time. His issue, is that he'll start on a pizza at 1700, and by the time he goes to bed, he will have eaten the whole thing, one slice at a time. So, i'll go on record stating that while it is certainly possible to stretch your pouch, it is not easy, if it were my freind would be dead by now. In fact, he has a number of extremely severe health issues relating to, you guessed it, morbid obesity. He has become so anemic that he has to to the hospital three days a week and be infused with Iron via a slow drip, as his body has completely lost the ability to absorb Iron. His Vitamin D is heading the same way, I think his current Vitamin D is 200,000 IU a week and even that has not brought his levels up to normal. He'll die fairly soon I think, we've been friends for 30 years, and I'll miss him, but this is all his doing. I talked until I was blue in the face and he laughed everything off. Oh and he needs double knee replacements, complete knee replacements, at 42 years old. Not good.
  3. thant is not what I needed to hear pizzicato,if mine get any heavier I will have to miss work 5 days everymonth. My girlfriend had by-pass done in June/07 and she said she skipped a couple of periods that is what I am hoping for. The pill was the beginning of my yrs. of weight gain. I gained 20pds like overnight with the pill. I got off of them about 6 yrs. ago thought that would help but the damage was done I was on them approx.14 yrs.
  4. Well I just celebrated my birthday and since I have a family who loves to eat and myself loving to get all dolled up enjoyed the excitement of just going.. We went from Texas Roadhouse one day, to Apple Bees another, then Red Lobster for lunch on another, and Chef's Steak House, & not to forget the margarita and the black berry sangria and the strawberry blast birthday cake[emoji51]. I say all this because after all these places I went to celebrate my birthday and all the so little food I could consume the last two weeks, I made healthy selections when ordering and only gained 3pds[emoji4] I had some things I shouldn't have had but hey it's a blessing all by itself to be able to live to see another one, so I let down my hair and forgot all about meal tracking and acted as if I was a skinny girl with no phat girl problems, lol [emoji23]So this week my goal is to Work Work Work Work Work (in my Rihanna voice) and get them right back off[emoji123]????
  5. Friends! I just had an epiphany. I am almost five months post-op. Today is the start of spring. A very long and cold and wet winter is behind me. And from today I am kicking up a gear! Going to join a gym ASAP come Monday. Enough of this lazying around. The time has come for me to honestly make the most of this precious tool I have received. I have lost 75 pounds (34 kg) since my highest weight. My goal is to be under a 100 kilos (under 220 pounds) by Christmas. That will be my gift to myself. I am 257 pounds (117 kg) now. You think a loss of 37 pounds (17 kgs) is possible by Christmas? Little less than four months. Theoretically it should be. But my weightloss has creeped to a very slow loss. Perhaps my lack of exercise, but also my menu choices. I am struggling deciding what to eat and being an active participant in what i get in. I am sure i dont get in nearly enough Protein. I know I am just probably lazy to make the effort. But I do feel overwhelmed quite easily, so I try and not berate myself so often. Any tips? What is your go to menu plan for a given day? Something tried and true? I dont take shakes at all as they tend to make my feel nauseous (I am lactose intolerant). Even if i make them with Water - it still has the consistence of something milky and I struggle to get it down! Hope to hear some good tips to get to my goal by Christmas! Anyone joining me???

    Gaining weight after baby.

Don't feel like a failure! The rule of thumb is it takes 9 months to put the weight on, it takes at least 9 months+ to take it off. I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a slight fill while you are still breastfeeding, as long as you are still able to maintain a good diet and supply for your little one Are you drinking enough water? Breastfeeding takes a lot out of you and will make you feel hungrier when in fact you really could just need to hydrate yourself more. Good luck!

    Hoodia

My question is...why would you use it? You have one of the best tools in the world to lose weight in the lap band. Are you looking for more help or a kick start off a plateau?

    1 stone is 14 lbs

Yeah, but...at least our weights LOOK/SOUND better in kilos or stones.
  9. the best me

    1 stone is 14 lbs

Yes, I wasn't sure if "bloody" was an Irish thing, but I've watched enough bad American TV to know it is at least English, which over here, is simply, over there somewhere. But you are expanding my horizons! and I thank you. I did pick up on the "stone", not "stones", and 8 stone is a hundred weight, 20 hundred weight is one ton, which is also 2240 lbs, exactly what it is in the US. WOW! It was fun exploring, thanks!
  10. You know my struggles in maintenance were a rollercoaster. We never thought I'd get to 160, I passed that and got to goal in 6.5 months which landed me at 148. My body slowed way down once I got to goal. I mean I didn't lose weight for 4-5 weeks, then I'd wake up and be down 3 pounds with no change in my diet. I was actually eating more calories and carbs, and still sporadically lost. I don't have any answers because I struggled with continued loss. My body did finally just stop losing, and now I bounce between 120-125lbs on any given day. Don't be surprised if you wake up one day, and are down a few pounds. I'd say up your calories, carbs, and Protein, and you might see the scale drop again.

  14. Hello, this is my first time posting but I have been lurking fir quite some time. I am 29 days post op and I am EXTREMELY dissapointed. I have followed my Drs orders to the tee. I have gotten in my 64 oz of Water and my 70 grams of Protein daily (1 Premier Protein and the rest from food). I am very particular about what I eat and I always choose lean Proteins and no bad carbs or sugar. I am allowed to eat about 550 calories a day and I have use MYFITNESSPAL to make sure I meet that. The only thing I have been unable to do is walk much. I have NO energy. When I grocery shop, I am usually about to pass out with dizziness at the checkout counter. Here's my dilemma. I have only lost 13 lbs . I know we are all different and lose at different rates, but I have lost more weight than this on every program I have ever been on. I don't regret having the surgery, but I am certainly feeling like I may be the one anomaly that will fail at this process. I have read many stall posts and i find my case to be different than most in that I lost all my weight within 10 days of surgery. That means I have been on a 19 day stall that started basically one week after surgery. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Did things ever turn around you? Does 550 calories sound low to you? I've spoken to both my Dr and my Nutritionist and they both agree my weight loss has been low. I am almost in tears here, any input would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I just researched some of the medicine I am still on and the say they cause weight gain. I am 3 weeks post op and now scared to death these meds are going to slow me down in my weight loss journey. My goal is to be off all my meds as the weight comes off but until then is it sabotaging my weight loss? Does anyone else have this concern?
  16. Hi there! You've come to the right place for support and understanding. I haven't been banded yet, but I have had surgery and know the fear, and I also understand the fear of failure, because I think about that even though I don't have a date yet. But I know there are a lot of fantastic people here who will help you, and who will tell you that, the band is a tool, and it can and will help you on your weight loss journey. One thing I can't stress enough is the importance of talking to people who understand, and that's what this site is all about. The person you mentioned who eats four hot dogs and then goes to the bathroom is certainly no one you should listen to; you need people who will encourage you, and maybe even give you a little tough love if it's needed. That's what I tell myself. I'm sorry I can't offer much help, but I know someone will come along who can. Stick around, and welcome to LBT! Debbie

    Am I doing this right?

I forgot to address the calorie part. I would not restrict your calories. Weight loss can in fact slow to a halt if you go into that starvation mode. Eat what feel right, calorie wise. Sometime a little boost of extra (healthy) calories boosts the weight loss. At 9 weeks post op I was eating between 650-900 calories a day, soft, dense protein.
  18. I had my sleeve on July 18th, 2017. I am 9 weeks post op. My highest weight was 222, surgery weight day I weighed in at 210 and I am 190.8. I have been following the diet to a T. My sister who had the sleeve surgery done a few years ago eats cheetos, drinks soda and ate crap food and the weight just FELL off. She started at 225 and is now at 143. For me, yesterday I had a protein shake, two quest bars and a few bites of chicken salad. In total about 750-800 calories. My doctor told me to stay between 800 and 1000 calories but the weight is sloooooooooow to come off. I have read others that are eating between 300-400 calories a day and it's working but my doctor says NO to that as it throws your body into starvation mode. Can y'all tell me your input on this? Should I lower my calories anyway?? I'm feeling very discouraged today and really don't know if I should be eating more or less... Thanks for your help!

    Am I doing this right?

@macaleigh Well, I am no doctor nor am I a nutritionist so please make sure and get advice from them, professionally. However, I can tell you some things from my own personal experience and what I learned over the past year. First of all, from your stats, you have lost 20 lbs in 9 weeks. That IS significant, and completely par for the course. You are moving right along and 20 lbs in less than 2 months is a big loss! As far as your sister goes, without being disrespectful of others choices, I have to say that eating the crap food she is eating raises a lot of questions. Those choices are unhealthy no matter what you weigh. WLS should be a tool for not only weight loss but fitness and general health. Please do yourself a favor and do not look at her choices as a victory. Stick to your plan, a healthier lifestyle, for good. Everyone has their own journey, and I encourage your follow your high protein, healthy foods plan. The weight will continue to drop. In the long run, I can almost guarantee that you will look and feel better than anyone who maintains their diet regularly on junk foods. Best of luck to you and fear not...YOU are on the right path!
  20. the people who told you losing weight won't make you happy never had to worry if they were going to break the chair they were sitting in. i'm ecstatic!!!!!

    Port Site

I had no idea where my port was until today when I had my first fill. I did poke around on my tummy trying to figure out where it was with no luck. My fill was done under xray so the doctor could see where the port was. From what my doctor tells me when you still have some weight to lose the port will not be easily found on some people.....but as you lose you will be able to feel it better.
  22. So I am looking to have this surgery and going through all my glasses required by my surgeon and so forth it's a total of a 6 month program I'm on my 4 th month but my main concern is I'm 270 lbs and so afraid of having loose skin and my insurance not covering skin surgery I'm interested in hearing from people who have had this surgery around my weight and if they had a bunch of loose skin at my classes they say bc I'm young yet 36( not that young lol) that it will still have a lot of elasticity I have had three kids and just don't wanna have a bunch of loose skin and stretch marks already have the stretch marks. Anyone's stories or ways to prevent loose skin ect would be greatly appreciated Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. The band being "fickle" is normal; many people have this issue. You just have to roll with it -- try to stick to eating your pre-planned amount of food when you are too loose. The other issue is a problem for most long-term bandsters: thing like ice cream, chocolate, chips and Cookies go down easily while food choices like chicken and veggies have a harder time going down. This becomes a matter of choice, since the band will not solve the problem. We have to put aside junk food and eat healthy food most of the time to lose & maintain weight. Not probably all that helpful, I know. I'll commiserate with you that it can be hard at times to stick to healthy food!

    Day 9

I joined a gym and hit the treadmill for 35 minutes tonight...even broke a sweat and everything! :clap2: Feel so much better now than I did when I got off work. Other improvements are that I have just about weaned off of caffeine entirely. I used to drink 4-5 cups of coffee and 1-2 glasses of iced tea/day. Even the smallest amount has been upsetting my tummy this week and I found that I really just preferred plain old water. Once I get completely off, I will try my best to stay off. It just makes me hungrier. Now that I am past most of the pain and almost past most of the fatigue, I am really, really getting pumped about all of this....the 10# drop doesn't hurt either. This is looking like it's going to be a very, very good year. DH came to me this evening after work, when I was VERY tired, and asked what he could do to support me. I said, "Unload the dishwasher." He laughed and later watched me unload it. 10 minutes after that he was out for his poker game. I went to the gym. :ermm I mean, why did he bother asking? I was serious when I said that....all I really needed at that moment was a little help around the house. Pretty disappointing. He did say that he can already tell in my face that I've lost weight. Cool. So can I. Activity 35 mins on treadmill @ 2.8 mph Nutrition Total: 869 Fat:55 496 58% Carbs:35 111 13% Fiber:7 0 0% Protein:60 241 28%

    moving on

Just curious but why did you have a picc line? I wasn't able to tolerate anything more than cottage cheese and yogurt at 4 weeks post sleeve. as for runny eggs, not a fav for me but I was able to eat them scrambled. Soft food stage:( Protein items) cottage cheese, yogurt, string cheese, refried Beans (water them down the first time or they will come back up) There are other soft foods but stick with the protein ones to start so you don't slow your weight loss with the carbs. I am 14 weeks out and still drink Protein shakes for my main protein consumption. I eat 1 meal a day that is usually a Soup with high protein count (since I can only eat 1/2 cup at that meal before I am full I add deli meat to increase the protein count) so I get protein and veggies at that meal. To add fruit to my diet, I mix the fruit into the protein shakes. Wish you the best and yes I still feel afraid to add foods to my diet.
