    Anyone experience this?

I just had a fill about a week ago. I wonder if it's just decided to "kick in"? I didn't notice much of a difference right after the fill, but he only added .2 cc's, so I didn't think anything of it.

    Not Sure

Yeah I fill out that survey too. What I mean is that I do not feel the band stopping me. In fact, I know I could eat more if I want, I just stop myself. No, I'm not hungry between meals, and no I don't eat pasta and bread, but that's my choice, not the bands. I'm just having a hard time telling the difference between my own personal restriction and the restriction the band provides (if any). I guess my worry is that because I make different choices now anyway, and I watch my portion size, I won't know if I'm in the green zone. I always wait 2 weeks after a fill before I try making that decision. It's just still hard for me to tell. If I base it on weight loss and hunger alone, then I would say that I am. If I base it off the amount of restriction I'm feeling, then I'm not. It's a bit confusing. lol. Thanks for responding!

    Watermelon

I cannot get enough watermelon. Like three ounces at one time. Is this good or bad for me. I am still eating my three ounces of Protein enough, but I crave watermelon. Any suggestions as to why?
  4. Well I went to my post-op for having my lapband removed. I was told that my liver is way too fatty to do my sleeve surgery. The doctor is making me lose 50 pounds before he will do the surgery. I was very upset when I was told this and broke down in tears. Once I settled down I met with the nutritionist and she gave me two options. 1. 1500 calories a day and it will take awhile to lose or 2. start the pre-op diet tomorrow and be on it until I am down 50 pounds. She thinks I can be down in about 4-5 weeks. I went and bought all my stuff today. I am so disappointed, but I know that my doctor is doing what is best for me.
  5. I am considering having my band removed. I am 53, 5'3" and now 185. I had my lap band surgery 5 years ago. I would do it again in heart beat. The day of my surgery I weighed 254lbs. I am now having stomach problems, ulcers and acid reflux. I do want my band removed because I know my stomach will feel better. I am confindent that I will continue to be active and hopfully loose more weight. I can't seem to find answers as to what I do to prepare for the surgery, what I eat right before surgery, and right after. Can I swim right away? I have my doctor appointment next week to give my decision, but I feel they want me to have mini gastric surgery. I don't think I want to mess with my stomach anymore. I hope someone can help me. Lori

    Very sore after surgery

Hi, Larry! It is very normal to feel sore and tired...after all, you just had surgery! I liked a low heat setting for the shoulder pain (which is caused by the gas they use to blow you up like a balloon so they can see what they are doing during the surgery). I used baby simethicone drops to help with gas pain, because you only needed a few drops to help. It was a couple of weeks before all that gas pain really subsided. I could only drink about 2 oz. at a time at first, then 4 oz., but follow your doctor's instructions. It will be difficult. Psych up for it, and do it, because your future health and the integrity of your band depend on it! You can do it! Congratulations on your surgery, and welcome to BANDLAND!
  9. What feelings did you have right before surgery? I know this is what I want to do but I just feel blah about it lately. My surgery is in 2 weeks and has been scheduled since March.

    Swallow and Breath!

Plateaus are the worst, really mess with your head. Glad you have it figured out and are back on track. I had an unfill a few weeks ago because I was getting so tight during my TOM that I couldn't take it anymore. It was really scary with the thought of being so much looser the other 3 weeks of the month but I have lost 6 lbs since....go figure.
  11. Hello just wondering if anyone experienced dizzy and weird sick feelings through the pre op diet or am I just getting sick at the wrong time? I'm only a week and one day into pre op diet and have three weeks to go but I feel horrible today.. Hoping some sleep and Advil help..
  12. I'm 24 days post op (sleeve) and in the past week I've started having the worst hip pain at night. If I sleep on my side, that hip will be excruciatingly painful in the morning. Anyone else experience this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    To Drink or No?

Don't believe a thing your body says right now. You're just a few days out of surgery. Right now your sleeve is a traumatized, stapled together, swollen sliver of a stomach and cannot hold very much at all. Everything that's happening now is a very temporary and artificial situation that won't last long. In the meantime, your body still needs 64 ounces of liquids a day. So that's why the instruction "sip, sip, sip" is the correct instruction. So for now sip, sip, and then sip some more. In a few weeks, as the swelling of your new sleeve begins to relax and your sore throat feels better (they stuck a plastic tube down there during surgery) your ability to drink more at a time will return.

  15. Okay, I joined this site back in september of last year after doing months of due diligence. I've learned more in the past year about lap bands than I ever thought possible. Well, I finally went to a seminar, met with a surgeon and now have my procedure date set. Friday, March 26th 2010. 4 weeks to go and I'm really excited. I cannot wait to shed this weight. These past five years I have been packing it on and now I'm ready to be start my new life. I have fought with my weight my entire life and realize that for some people diets alone just don't work. I've lost and regained so many times over the years. Now, I just want to lose it, and for good. Can't wait to start posting my progress!!!

    Are Refined Carbs The Culprit?

Sweet! I think you might like it DesertRat, I know I certainly did. The comments section on Amazon from readers has great information too - paraphrasing from one post, and the author: We are biologically wired to respond to sugar, fat, and salt. As processed food became an industry designed to create a profitable product, our waistlines grew. In 1960 women between the ages of twenty and twenty nine weighed an average of 128 pounds. In 2000, that number grew to 157. In the forty to forty-nine age group, it grew from an average of 142 to a whopping 169 pounds! Yes, ladies, the average perimenopausal woman in America weighs 169 pounds, so don't feel alone. It is so true - I was watching news footage from the mid 70's last week, and just about everyone is thin. Link to the comments: http://www.amazon.co...howViewpoints=1 If you guys have HBO - this new documentary The Weight of the Nation is very enlightening - I am so glad that I am able to have the surgery after seeing the truly staggering statistics of how obesity is ravaging our culture. http://theweightofthenation.hbo.com/

    Ready To Be Banded

Oh I hope yours is soon! I have to wait until next week or the week after to make mine and it's driving me nuts! I'm in the process of changing my PCP right now because my old doctor left the clinic i go to like 6 months ago so when I go in for something I get a random pick out of the hat doctor and they stopped helping me with my weight loss but they do have everything I did with the old doctor on file (watched my diet for 6 months, saw a nutritionist) so hopefully I get to pick up from there and the new doctor refers me for my sleep study right away so i can get this show on the road! Good luck to you sweetie!

    3 Days Post Op

Okay, so it has been three days since my surgery. I find that I am not hungry at all. I force myself to eat sugar free popsicles and broth. I have had a little soreness but I am most concerned about the gas. I did not seem to have problems with gas until yesterday when my shoulder and neck started hurting and have not stopped. I have been up and about so I am not really sure what else I can do. I read that the gas relief stuff does not really help with this type of gas...even my surgeon told me the same thing...so I guess I just have to smile through it for now. I am happy that I had the surgery but worried that I may never want to eat again! So scared of getting sick or hurting that I avoid eating at all costs.:frown:

    one week post op

This has been a learning week for me, although I still have a hard time getting all the fluids in that I need, I am up moving around and feeling better, thought I was going to die the first night home. I think I made a good decision, going to work it and do what I need to do.:smile2:
  25. I have been stalled for about 2 weeks fluctuating between 30 and 32 lbs lost. I just started working out last week (walking, eliptacle, some leg toning exercises) and have been cutting down on my carbs again because even though eating them sucks sometimes I just can't get enough it seems. Any ideas on how to push through it?
