  1. I was the same way post surgery, I NEVER had a problem keeping any food down, what is being said is the absolute truth. The liquids slide through even if it is a protein shake. The yogurt may stay with you for awhile but not long as it will slide right through as well. I had the same problem and thought that my sleeve was too large until I started doing some research and discovered what many here have told you. Once you start eating solid food you will QUICKLY discover how small your stomach is. Once you eat some real food you will see! I can only eat about 4oz over 30 minutes.

    Surgery didn’t work?

HW: 276 at the start of my 6mon req program SW: 244 CW: 199 HT: 5ft1 GW: 125-135 whatever looks good on me, lol My 1st pre-op diet was 2wks long. I had 2 shakes a day, broth w/very little egg noodles, sugar-free pudding and sugar-free pops. My 1st attempt at surgery failed. They couldn't get the tube down my throat. Blood started to come up, so they aborted the surgery. I was so depressed. Had to go for testing and started to eat my feelings. After not being able to eat for 2wks and know I have to do it all over again was terrible. I'm glad they stopped though, found out later they could've punctured a lung. Gained 9lbs back, but was able to lose it during my 2nd pre-op diet. My surgeon cut me a break since I had lost 30 lbs during my 6mon program and only made me do this pre-op diet for 1wk instead of 2. I had lost 28 lbs in the 1st 3mons. That's when my NUT gave me my plan. Before that, I was eating very little. I would have oatmeal with protein mixed in, shakes, yogurt w/protein mixed in, eggs. I kept a log of my weight from the time I started my program when I went back, I noticed the weight loss stopped after she gave me that plan. I didn't realize this until I was meeting with my new NUT. My new NUT asked what I had been eating when I told her she couldn't believe it. When I cut out bread, pasta, and rice I lost 8lbs in a week. Good luck on your journey and don't be afraid to question your doctors, they have a lot on their plate.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'm 1 week post op and it sucks... I'm honestly starving. U get so sick of shakes, pudding, yogurt and popsicles it's terrible. I have a ton of regret..like why didn't I just lose this on my own.i mean I hope it gets better but I'm 1 week out and I'm absolutely miserable. Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Christine330 even now 4.5 years later I always put my protein first. I make sure to get all my protein in every day as that will be important for the rest of your life. my snacks are all high protein snacks like greek yogurt, a cheese stick or for a treat some cottage cheese w/pineapple. I still make protein shakes and I still count my liquids every day to make sure im drinking enough. after 4.5 years of doing this it becomes second nature. good luck to you and to everyone else reading this thread.
  5. Tomorrow will be one week of VSG, feeling well so far. I feel no hunger at all, and simply force myself to put something into my stomach. I manage to meet my water goal of 64 oz/day, maybe even more (with a few sips of chicken broth every day). But I really fail to manage my protein goal - getting around 15g with my protein shake. I just can't force myself to drink more than 1/2 serving /day. I tried other protein supplements, but they are too sweet -- after the surgery all artificial sweeteners taste really bad. Once I'm allowed to go to the pureed phase, I think I'll be able to get some proteins through unsweetened real foods, like greek yogurts, meats or soups. But I still have to wait for about one more week. As a result, my current daily intake is about 200-250 cal. Is there any risks, like stalls or else, related to low calories? Could I keep my clear liquids diet for one more week without harming myself?
  6. I am lactose, dairy, and soy free. I am looking for something besides baby food, for my stage 2 foods (yogurt, cottage cheese not an option). is it possible to make oatmeal, loose enough??? I can't live on mashed potatoes for every meal either!
  7. I'm a year out next Tuesdy. My day is typically: Meal 1 - egg, cheese, canadian bacon with 1/2 english muffin - 13.5g protein Meal 2 - 1/2 cup shrimp salad, fruit or multigrain serving - 21g protein Meal 3 - yogurt - 12 g protein Meal 4 - 3-4 oz protein (chicken, steak, pork), veggie, fruit 21 - 28g protein Meal 5 - Sargento Balanced Break or a couple of cheese sticks 8-10g protein total protein - 74 - 85g daily On workout days I try to drink a Premier Protein Clear to up the total to 95 - 105.
  8. Things didn't really change postop. The problems that were there before, are the same problems as now. If his weight loss didn't fix those things, why do you think yours will? I'm not saying "don't get the surgery". I actually think it may be a good move for you. But I am saying that getting the surgery is not going to fix your relationship. If your relationship is going to be fixed, it's going to require some other type of work (counseling, or lengthy discussions, or something.. I don't know much about fixing couple-problems). I do know that couples need to have common-ground. They should have activities they enjoy doing together. (This is a huge downfall in my marriage, and I'm not sure if/when it will get fixed). Dieting together is one way to help get some common ground. But the problem is, you are already frustrated because you see your hubby eating whatever he wants, just in limited portion sizes. While you eat yogurt. If he continues doing that, don't worry, you'll have your 270lb husband back in a few more years. Classic misunderstanding of what this surgery does. Regain is a real thing, and so even after having the surgery, one must remain on a "diet" for life. Yogurt for lunch is required forever. And, he's a guy, presumably MUCH taller than you. He's always going to be able to eat twice the calories that you'll be able to. It sucks, and I'm in the same boat. You may get the surgery, lose all the weight, then proceed to regain, yourself, if you followed his lead.

    Traveling after surgery?

I was away for almost a week about five weeks after surgery when we had to do my mother's big Italian funeral near NYC - just planned my meals and got a hotel room with a fridge so I could stock yogurt, protein shakes and other high protein stuff - I pushed food around on my plate alot when I was with the family and no one noticed. Good luck. (No one in my family other than my husband and two daughters knew about the surgery. They still don't 105 pounds later.)

    Im feeling like a failure...already

Typically, ill have a protein shake for breakfast, then 4oz of a protein at lunch, and then 4oz of protein at dinner, and sometimes a yogurt or another protein shake for a snack at some point in the day. I'm not allowed to eat beef, pork, grains (rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, etc), or raw veggies yet, so i feel pretty limited on what i can have and what i will have. I have probably 8-10 food items in rotation (tuna, canned veg, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, protein shake, string cheese...to name a few). I really dont know what else to eat. My calorie intake has been about 700-800/day (im pulling back to 600 max, per my NUT) and protein intake about 80-120g/day (im pulling back to 80 max, per my NUT). My exercise is every other day at this point, 30 min of fast cardio. In ur opinion, what could i be eating or doing better? What should i stop eating or doing? Any advice u have based on what has worked for u or ur friend would be awesome!

Stopped losing weight at 2 weeks

Many people, if not the majority of us, who've had WLS experience a stall around the two to three week mark post-op. You can find dozens of threads on here discussing this if you do a keyword search of "three week stall". I was actually advised to not weigh myself at all the first month to avoid being discouraged or alarmed, but of course popped on there anyway because my curiosity was too strong. Your body is needing a bit of time to adapt. It's gone through an intense surgery, during which time you probably gained a few pounds from all that was pumped into you, and then rapidly lost a lot of weight. It's kind of like your body needs to catch its breath. There's a blogger called The World According to Eggface who has a lot of recipes for smoothies you can make during the first month out. I never would have imagined it to be possible, but I ended up having fun during that first month out trying out her ideas and others I found on Pinterest and from posters on here. I'd suggest trying out different types of protein powders so that you have some variation. I really liked the protein powders by Unjury and Syntrax Nectar. At the time I had the surgery in 2015 you could buy sample sizes of Syntrax at The Vitamin Shoppe, but in recent visits to the stores near me I found out they only have them in the large tubs now. You can still get the smaller sizes on Amazon, I believe. I'd add in nut butters (I liked making them fresh at Whole Foods), low carb fruit, Torani sugar free syrups, and even frozen sweet potato cubes from Trader Joe's (blending them with vanilla protein powder tastes like sweet potato pie to me). If you look on Amazon you'll find a lot of protein powder options, and can read through reviews. Some plain Greek yogurt brands, like Fage, have a lot of protein and are low in carbs. It's important to check the label before buying, and to avoid the flavored ones that are almost always higher in carbs. I think Fage has around 22 grams of protein, and under 10 grams of carbs. You can use it as a base to make all sorts of smoothies.
  17. Well, my dad and my husband both regained some of the weight back (Dad gained about 60 lbs over the past few years, and husband gained back 15 lbs over the last year) because unlike me, they didn't feel the need to watch what they ate cuz they had the stomachs of hamsters for so long. And yet somehow that still manages to piss me off: "These mothafuckas get to eat whatever they want, and they still look like Sally Struthers should be raising money for them. And I am eating yogurt for lunch and LOOKING LIKE SALLY STRUTHERS!" :-P

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

So two things I like, Cookie cravings = Lenny & Larry's protein cookies. Pro: The cookie is delicious my favorite flavors lemon poppy seed and oatmeal, then peanut butter and then chocolate chip. Con: the cookie is HUGE so cut your protein count in quarters or half. if you have a craving this is a good go to but a cookie is a cookie. GNC Lean bar Strawberry Yogurt is really good. The blueberry and chocolate chip are horrible

    September 2017 Gastric Sleeve Surgery!

I'm feeling better lately, thanks. I'm down 35 pounds total and am in sort of a stall, but I'm hoping that's ending soon. What are you guys eating during the pureed stage? I go to the next stage on Tuesday, but I'm getting a little bored with cottage cheese, yogurt and cream soups. My nut says no meats in the pureed stage. Anyone having any luck with pureed veggies though? I did try some mashed cauliflower that was great.
  20. Hi all, I need some snack suggestions. I am a "hand to mouth" person, and need some suggestions on what I can snack on at night. Something like nuts, pretzels, etc (not veggies, yogurt, jello, popsicles). Thanks for your help!

    Low fat deserts..

Have you tried halo top ice cream? If not, try pistachio and chocolate flavors. I also make my own high protein popsicles using low fat vanilla ice cream, berries and da vince splenda simple syrup Cook 2-3 cups the berries in the da Vince syrup to get the best flavors of the fruit. When assembling the popsicles alternate layers of yogurt and fruit. At the end use a kabob stick to swirl. Each popsicle will have If you prefer icy popsicle dont use the yogurt and each popsicle will have only 10-15 calories.
  22. My surgery is on October 18th. I will be starting my pre surgery liver shrink diet on the 11th. Any suggestions about how to make smoothies or anything I can eat without milk, yogurt or eggs ?

    Dumping sleevers

I have had this happen one time exactly two days ago... I am not sure if it is because I ate one two many bites, I had about 8-10 bites or Im not sure if It was the frozen yogurt ice pop I however had my heart wanting to explode out of my chest I became hot and dizzy worst feeling I have had since pre-op I walked for nearly two hours around my yard until finally it stopped. I do hope it happens to get better for you as I never want it to happen again mannnnnn Sending good vibes your way
  24. I have a pretty standard schedule during the work week and it’s more variable during the weekend. I start the day with a low carb protein shake. About 2 hours later I have a fruit or dairy serving. Siggis yogurt or some berries. Or I may have a veggie juice. For lunch and an afternoon snack I will split a turkey burger in half and have for both meals or have chicken or turkey salad When I get home which is usually pretty late I have peanut butter and sugar free strawberry preserves on a small chestnut flatbread I also use my slow cooker and make a lot of stews that have meat and beans.
  25. My doctor doesn't want me snacking - just 3 meals a day. I am 10 days post op and currently on full liquids. To get all my protein in every day, I have to add protein powder to Oikos Triple Zero yogurt and SF pudding (allowed in this stage in my program) + a significantly watered down Premier Protein Clear drink (which I can barely tolerate). I have tried unflavored protein powder in soups, but I can't eat enough soup (less than 1/3 of a cup for 7 grams of protein) to get to what I need in protein for a meal. I gag on every protein shake I have tried. I have tried...I am just not a shake girl! Later this week, I am moving to the pureed stage. I am planner + I can't wait to get "eat" something different so I have started to think through this... Is it possible to get my required protein in without continuing to eat yogurt/pudding + protein powder and Premier Clear? I am anticipating I would get fuller, faster and couldn't eat enough to get the amount of protein I need per meal to get 60 grams of protein. In other words...I am trying to get out of having protein powder during the pureed stage and meet my protein goals in the pureed stage but I am not seeing a way out of it. One other complication in the pureed stage is that I hate eggs. Am I over thinking this? I know everyone is different, but I am also curious as to how much (ounces, bites, tablespoons, etc), you could eat for a meal in the pureed stage. I would be grateful for any info or guidance y'all could give...
