i stick to the plan and have learnt i'm a slow loser because i'm a smaller starting weight. sometimes i feel like we all get caught up in number and feel like we aren't doing things right especially when we compare to others. it's all natural sometimes i just need to remember i wouldn't even be at this weight without this tool . just need to take a step back and breathe lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

p.s. Plus, you are what we call a "lightweight". Lightweights almost always lose their weight more slowly than someone who starts off at 400 lbs. And the closer you get to your goal, the slower it comes off, too. there are so many factors that can affect your rate of loss. 47 lbs in 3/4 months for a "lightweight" is actually pretty good!

Yes, really! Weight fluctuates. At 52 days out, you know darn well you can't eat enough to gain weight. Just like what was said, Water retention is usually the culprit. Your body is pretty much saying at this point "It's not you. It's me." If the fluctuations are going to drive you bonkers, stay off the scale and only weigh periodically. If you get to the point where you can see them and understand that they are a normal part of the whole process, then carry on.

We need a LOT more information before we can offer any solid advice. When was your surgery? What was your starting weight? What is your current weight? How long has your current stall been? What are you eating? What are you doing for exercise? Are you getting in all your protein and water?

Try not to let it bum you out. Just think of the extra weight loss from the pre-op diet as a bonus for your dedication and hard work and allow yourself a cheat meal or item or a movie. But treat yourself somehow. Praying for you. Sent from my SM-S920L using the BariatricPal App -
That is a long time, but I have read several threads of people that had theirs stop for a while. I think the hormones get all messed up with the weight loss. I agree though you might want to see your obgyn just to make sure. Good Luck!

I am 16 months post op and have lost a whopping 21 lbs. I started with a 50 lb loss but have gained 30 back!! I don't have much room left, but I am going in for another fill Tuesday. I haven't been to the doctor in 6 months because I am embarrased that I have gained. The only thing the band seems to do is make me eat more slowly. I can still eat a lot of food!! I am starting do get that miserable feeling again...anything over 300 lbs is killer! I am so dissapointed in myself and I wonder if I am ever going to be able to lose this weight. Someone give me the kick in the ass I need!

I work as a nurse and my typical patient is usually elderly, a new post op patient, a recent moderate to severe stroke victim, a bariatric patient who had a bad outcome, an accident victim, and/or a person who has been debilitated for a long period of time. The typical patient is a one person hard tranfer or a two person mild transfer. They weight anywhere from 100lbs to 500lbs, with the average being around 200lbs. They need to be tranferred into and out of the bed/wheelchair/bathroom and lifted and repositioned often while in bed, I work three-12 hour night shifts in a row so lots of this. I am hoping to have my sleeve done during a two week planned vacation, and return back to work about 10 days post op. I will be able to avoid a lot of the lifting by saying that I have had stomach surgery, but there is always times when it is hard to do. For anyone out there that is in a job like mine with this type of lifting, what is the amount of time you took off. I want to let my body heal properly, but at the same time I hate to make my co-workers work a lot of extra days to cover my days if I am off, so I would like to be back as soon as possible. Worse case I can tell my boss that I had the surgery and will only work if there are always two other people there with me, sometime there is only me and another worker. I hate to take this road because there are to many things that can go wrong and it is a major hassle to always make sure everyone hasn't forgotten that I need these needs met. Plus I hate feeling like I am whining or not pulling my weigh, I went through a year and a half of many complications with my lap band so everyone knows I have had these type needs in the past, so I really hate to go down that road once again. Any advice would be welcomed.

Hi everybody. I'm writing as a lap-band failure. I had surgery in July 2009, and was faithful to the program for a year--lost 55 lbs. But I never found a sweet spot, and got too tight in May 2010, loosened in June 2010 but perhaps not enough. Anyway, I found I couldn't get anything down and began--yes--with milkshakes and the like to compensate. I began gaining, had some family trouble, and long story short, I'm here in March 2012 having gained all the weight back. I am going to call my surgeon's office and get a new fill-tighten-loosen, but I'm looking for advice-counsel-experience from those who have gone through something like this and have managed to get back on the horse and get straight. Thank you so much for your time.

I woke up this morning at 180.2 pounds. Which I love. My goal is to be 175 pounds. I currently wear a size 12. I love myself right now. I don't feel fat anymore which is great. But. Im scared that I may continue to loose weight and look to thin and sickly. Has anyone had this problem or a similar one. My husband thinks I should stop where I am. But I just want to see if 175 will get me into a size 10. But that's it for me. Please help.......

I am only 4 months out so I am not sure if this will help you. I was eating around 800 and my weight loss slowed down to like 2 lb a week, for about 4 weeks. I started running 30 min 4-5 days a week(c25k) and it picked up a little. I track all my food, well last week I lost 6lb and realized I have been eating around 1000 calories a day. Sometimes I don't understand it at all. But I think (and want to say you can read about it in work out websites) that it's important to vary your calorie intake. Your body can adjust and maybe get compliant to any calories limit. I think that's why workout folks have cheat days.

Disclaimer... its my blog, it isn't alway nice and some times I get cranky lol I will not name names, I will not be specific but there is a person who I came across today who is not only nasty and mean but clearly uneducated in regards to the lap band. How dare you criticize others? Where do you get off telling others what they should do? You are not perfect or otherwise would you be here with the rest of us? Would you have a weight problem? Hell no, your fat ass is here with us - get use to it. Plenty of us do the best we can and this site is a god send for us and if you cannot find the good in it get off the forum and don't let the door hit you in the ass. Thank you and I feel better now  -
Yes. I was worried about surgery itself. But also have been taking sublingual biotin for months before surgery and still after. Ice liked at some things for saggy skin as well on Pinterest lol. Nerium Firm looks promising but super expensive. I'm hoping maybe out won't be too bad. I'm afraid to habe plastic surgery. My doctor told me that I will need to have the excess skin from my belly removed after I lose the weight 🙁 Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

Please Help! Looking For Some Reassurance From Those Of You A Year + Out
sleevedup posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone! I am considering VSG, hoping to have the op sometime in December. I am very aware that the sleeve is a tool. I know you can gain a lot of weight back by making poor food choices (chips, ice cream, slider foods, etc.) and that if you want to keep the weight off, you have to make a lifestyle change. I am prepared for all this, in fact I welcome it greatly. But the more I read, I get scared. I am starting to feel like post 6 months there is not much restriction and you are kind of left to your own devices. Apart of why I am having this surgery is because I feel like a bottomless pit and want an internal stop button. I want to feel full without eating 1000 calories a sitting. To be honest, I don't have much physical hunger to begin with now. I mostly feel (unless I have just eaten the usual big/unhealthy meal) I am up to eat more for the sake of gluttony. I know I have issues with food, I am a recovery addict with some years of sobriety, and I understand since being sober I have used food as a drug. I definitely emotionally eat and most of my hunger is head hunger. Again, I am willing (very willing) to do the work and I know this is a tool, but the some of the things I've read make me feel that after sometime the sleeve is not much of a tool at all:( Can anyone shed some light? I can deal with making the appropriate food changes and eating the right things (i.e. Proteins first, veggies, etc.), but will that make me feel truly full? I am ready to start incorporating a fitness routine but I am just beginning to question if the sleeve provides restriction after the initial honeymoon period. -
I heard about getting a temporary band on the sleeve if you haven't lost all the weight or if stomach stretches, I don't know how that would work though, cause after taking the band out you would gain all the weight back? I would go to a BAriatric surgeon with a lot of experience to see what he/she recomends.

First surgeon appointment tomorrow!
GreenTealael replied to kalynn6504's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be SUPER honest about your health issues if you have any then ask: How much weight will you need to lose prior which surgeries they believe would help you the most What is the rate of complication with each surgery what the waiting period will be with your insurance if you are using insurance What the rate of failure and revision is for the practice What types of supports are available before , during and after surgery How long is the hospital stay Will they use surgical tape, glue or stitches Will you have a drain How many incisions will you receive and their locations CONGRATS -
Hello everyone! I'm 2 years post op and I was wondering if any bypass veterans out there developed an intolerance to dairy this far out after surgery. I've never had a problem before, but now it seems like anytime I eat dairy, especially milk or heavy milk based foods, that I have terrible gas and my tummy rumbles like crazy. Sorry for the info!! I'm blushing as I share this, but I need advice. I bought fat free Lactaid and it was too sweet! Yuck!! I've noticed some weight gain too and constipation issues. Today I got some light unsweetened soy milk and it was pretty good. I'm going to try it in a shake tomorrow. If it is lactose intolerance, I'll be bummed. Yogurt, string cheese, and skim milk are some of my faves. However the gas part is embarrassing and uncomfortable at times. Thanks in advance for any input!!!

HI, I had my sleeve on April 22, 2013 in Christiana, Delaware. I say that second time worked, because in April 2007, I had the lapband and it had to be removed with emergency surgery 36 hours later because of a tear in my esophagus. It took me 5 years to seriously look at bariatrics as an option again. I am so thankful I did. My weight had skyrocked to 303 lbs in August 2012. Between the classes and the two weeks of Optifast pre-op I was down to 266 on the day of surgery. Today I weighed myself and I am down to 255. My pain initially was terrible along with lot of nausea, I did however have alot of scar tissue that had to be removed and my surgery was twice as long as the normal sleeve. I can tolerate liquids well, applesauce, cream of wheat and yogurt. Trying something new every day. No more than an ounce at a time, but that is fine with me. I didn't believe it in class, but now I am living it.and it is so true. I will continue to post with updates. This will also help keep me on track..

Hi everyone, Was banded yesterday, Tuesday, June the 9th. I must say I was in some pain yesterday. Mostly from the gas that settled in my lower neck and across my shoulders and the site where the port is, is tender. I am going to try to post a picture of me from this morning. I was going to get a pre-op picture but forgot. So we will start from day 1 post op. Since January 21st., 2009 I have lost 16 pounds!! I know that is not a whole bunch but I am looking at them as 16 pounds that I will not gain back!!!! Thank you all for this GREAT support group!!!

Weight loss surgery will not fix any psychological eating, binging, self sabatoging issues. Additionally it can be very emotionally taxing. The insurance and surgeon want to ensure you are capable of being successful. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
