    Any April Surgery Dates?

Scheduled for April 25th! I'm a bit nervous because my insurance (Aetna POS) hasn't responded with approval or denial decision yet. Less than a week before surgery. Ugh!

    Hurry Up and Wait!

Hey there. It can be a process. I met with my surgeon on Dec. 2, 2022. Dec. 4 I ended up in the ER with a gallbladder that was about to rupture Had that removed on the 5th, and out of the hospital on the 6th. So I wasn't even thinking about WLS at that moment. Then the holidays happened, and then the new year. On Jan 9 I started back to grad school to get my MBA. On Jan. 11 my Mom passed away. So wasn't in the forefront of things again. But a little time passed and I started back with my requirements. I have my bloodwork next week with my PCP, and my final nutrition class on 5/3. I already got the final approval letter from my insurance, so I'll schedule right after that, and the coordinator said it would just be a few weeks (like she made it seem like I would JUST have time to do the 1 week diet before) and I'd have surgery. I'm just trying to time it correctly with work, school, etc. Plus, I'm NOT telling my coworkers, as they are, well, not nice people and are nosy and want to be in your business.
  3. I am wondering how long it took everyone from the time you initially talked to your doctor about wanting to get the surgery to how long you had to wait. I started this journey at the beginning of the year. My first conversation with the surgeon was on January 5th. I did not like her, as she was pretentious and rude. She kept saying, "Someone of your size" cannot get the gastric bypass, so I debated just not doing any of the procedures. I tried to explain to her (as we were doing this as a telehealth visit) that she was misjudging my size by only looking at the numbers. I hold my weight way too well. In high school, I outweighed girls my height and clothing size by 60-80 pounds, but was a state-placing cross country runner. My actual body fat composition was low when tested, versus weight/height ratio. Came to find out that she doesn't like doing bypasses, so she tried to convince all her patients to do the sleeve. After reading up on both, I decided I would actually prefer the sleeve, but not for any of the reasons she gave. I have had three visits with my primary, done the blood tests, and am now waiting on the surgeon's office for my psychology appointment and my final dietician appointment (which is over a month out.) Once I have those, along with an EKG from my primary and getting my paperwork signed off, I then have to wait for insurance to give the final approval. After that, I then wait. So what started on January 5th will take until a minimum of May 15th (final appointment) to even have everything completed... and then two to three weeks for insurance. Then, as my surgeon explained in January, it takes up to 6 weeks for the surgery to scheduled. I am a school teacher with my youngest heading off to college in August, so I am not going to miss taking her. I am majorly concerned that by the time I finally get the surgery, the summer will be over and I won't be able to get time off at the beginning of the school year for this surgery. I am debating talking to my doctor and telling her that I just won't have the surgery because this process is just taking way too long. I have already lost 22 pounds since I first weighed in at the beginning of the year from changing my diet. I am thinking I will be down another 20 by the time I finally get this surgery... or if I can get this surgery.
  4. I can't seem to shake the blues this morning. I had a vgb 27 years ago and a REY two weeks ago. I gained 20 pounds while in the hospital for my two day stay....and two weeks later I'm still up by 6 (and gained weight the last two days). My calorie intake is NOT causing this weight gain....and my head knows that this is surgery trauma trying to work itself out. But I'm now sitting here questioning everything. I lost 80 pounds prepping for this surgery. I wanted to stop vomiting......I wanted the assist of malabsorption.....but I'm queasy every time I put food in my mouth. I'm uncomfortable with the feeling of food in my pouch. I'm disappointed that my body won't play along. I can't drink enough. I can't stand the thought of having to have two protein shakes a day to get the required protein in. I'm just really wondering why I put myself through all of this again just to feel as miserable as I do in this moment?
  5. Hey there. Waiting to schedule my surgery, which should be sometime in May or maybe June. I had my gallbladder out in Dec and have 3 sites and had a total of 12 staples. I got the random burning stinging pain for a few weeks, and the one basially in my belly button would get annoyed sometimes with certain pants. I too have a complete thyroidectomy in 2021, and that didn't bother me at all. (I'm from AL too, lol) Both surgeries, the only real issue I had is that I'm allergic to the adhesive in bandages, so I clawed myself and they were so whelped up. That part stunk. You can still see on my stomach where the adhesive was on my gallbladder sites.
  6. Had my gastric bypass and hernia repair surgery 3/29. I'm going through the exact same thing. I fear I over worked myself around the house and walking too long. The worst pain is near my belly button (probably referred pain from left incision). It's miserable right now. I can't stand up for more than a minute. I hope you're doing better! Feb sleeves unite!

your stats arent all that far off from mine, but I am eating more. Stalls are part of weight loss, no matter HOW its done. You are doing fantastic and those are soe MAJOR wins!!! trust the process! Are you working out at all? if so, incorporate that as much as you are able. even if its 'just' walking! That helps as well!

    Pre-op diet

Apparently the patients my surgeon put in the liquid diet called that frst 5 or so days hell week. I’ve done the shake diet a couple of times in the past (for about 6 weeks each time - awful & hardly lost any weight). I cannot tell you how relieved I was my surgeon said no shakes for me but a dietician supported diet which was keto. Survive the first week & it does get easier. The worst aspect is the withdrawals from sugar, carbs, caffeine.

Please do not worry about your weight so much. My surgeon asked me to keep a low carb high protein diet. Your weight will fluctuate and they are aware of it. You will be at least two weeks prior to the surgery on a liquid diet and you will loose weight drastically at that time.

    Hungry...all the time

My hunger hasn't stopped either, I was hoping it would. I'm at my 3rd week and sure enough have not lost in a few days, actually gained a couple of pounds. I know it's expected so I won't worry yet 😕 I have not had any issues with anything I have tried to eat, tastes haven't changed. I usually eat anywhere between 600-800 a day depending what I have. I am concentrating on protein and eat about every 2.5 hours per what my Dr. has said.

    Hi, I'm new here

I am working towards my surgery. I have to admit that I have kind of gone off the deep end eating everything that I feel I won't be able to eat after the surgery. It has only been in the past few weeks that I decided to actually take this seriously. A few years ago, I tried HCG shots. Lost over 50lbs. Put the weight back on in about six months. Did it again. Same results. I just couldn't maintain. That is what worries me the most. I can do this for awhile, but long-term? I have a really thin daughter who eats everything and an overweight husband who couldn't care less about eating healthy and hates most of the "healthy" foods I eat. That is a serious challenge. I have over 200lbs. to lose to meet my goal weight. That is really depressing. My doctor refuses to consider doing a gastric bypass and will only do the sleeve because I am not diabetic. I do have terrible acid reflux at times, but she wouldn't even talk to me about this. My husband totally wants me to get the surgery, but I think his reasons are selfish. Not sure if he is doing this as a way for me to prove that even if I lose the weight, I won't leave him... as a kind of power trip thing. My biggest fear is that he will try to constantly sabotage me, or use my not being able to enjoy food out with him to try to make me feel like I owe him whatever he wants from me as recompense for altering our lifestyle now. I am only 3 years from retirement (need 30 years) and finishing a degree so that I can change my job to something more challenging. Once I get my retirement and finish my degree, I want to feel confident to go seek a position and being obese does not give me the confidence. (I get judged way too much as being dumb for letting myself become overweight.) Anyhow, I am super super nervous about this surgery and all that will change in my life because of this.

    1 year after Sleeve surgery...

Your stats are amazing. Imagine loosing 3 inches off your neck. I wish I had done the measurements too.
  18. Hello, I am at the very end of my process, just waiting for my processing team to look over my file and make sure it fits everything insurance is requiring. I just wondering how long it took all of you to go through your "processing" phase. Not how long it took insurance to approve, just how long it took your processing team to submit your prior authorization to insurance after everything was completed? I'm almost at two weeks and no one can tell me anything, but when I contact the insurance company they don't have it. Is this timing normal? Thank you!

    RNY surgery question

sorry - I misunderstood what you were trying to say in your original post. Yes - you are correct - food will never go through the bottom 3/4 (or whatever) of your stomach again unless the surgery is reversed.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

So, I'm 2/3 of the way through my self imposed 90 day challenge to lose what I could lose before my next Dr appointment. In the first 30 days, I lost 10 lbs. In the second 30 days I gained about 4. Not great. However, here is my observation... On day 25, I began taking some supplements to try to stop muscle loss. I began taking Creatine, Carnitine and Leucine along with my protein shakes. In the last 30 days, I have gotten stronger at the gym, my workouts have been able to be more intense and my pant size is getting looser... depending on the brand and pant style cut, I'm between a 38 and even a 36!... I just bought a pair of shorts on Friday that are size 36... I have no idea when I did that last. So, in 28 days, I see my Dr again. At this point, I hope I can break into the upper 240's by then, but it's going to be tough. It's a far cry from my goal of 236, but I'm still working.
  21. absolutely! How are you doing in the middle of the pre op diet? My surgeon has me on full liquids. The hard part was the first 3 or 4 days I guess going through caffeine and carb withdrawls.
  22. Pain about 2 weeks, but I'm almost 5 months and still have some of the nerve discomfort in the big incision, not much but sort of tender is i touch hard and when I do intense ab work, has become better since month 3 Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Today marks 1 year since i had gastric sleeve surgery. Starting weight 317lb, Current weight 193lb Hunger comes back with a vengeance. There is not a single piece of food that i have issues with from healthy to very unhealthy stuff... So that is something i have to watch closely because i can get very bad cravings for sweets like donuts, pastries, bread ect... I can eat a lot more now than before. So have to watch that portion size and stop with the snacking. I could have probably lost more weight if i actually worked out but i rarely ever worked out. Just too busy with work. But overall i am very happy with the way i look now. love being able to find clothing at any store, no issues flying coach ect... Last week i took my 1 year bloodwork. still waiting for the results on that. I am moving next month across the country for my job so that is exciting.
  24. Happy early birthday! I am having mine April 25th as well. One week to go!
