    weight gain directly after surger

Normal. I came out of the hospital a whole 10 pounds heavier than when I went in. It’s scientifically impossible to gain fat on 600 calories a day, don’t stress.
  2. About Me: Pre Weight: 200lbs Height: 5”3 Post Weight: 120 (4 yrs later). Lost all my weight in the 1st year. Lowest 117, looked very sick, couldnt barely eat. Slowly got up to 128 my highest oct 2019. Then lost 8-10 lbs when started working. So my question is, what is your diet like? Calorie Intake, foods you tolerate, can”t tolerate, meal plan, how much can you eat. Me: Main things I eat 2 Toast, Egg, Cheese sandwhich, but yet I get full from just having 1/2 porkchop; Im talking the size if my palm in half by itself Weird! I used to be able to eat lots of popcorn when I could have it. Now I can barely finish a typucsl medium popcorn. I can drink pop no problem 2-3 Slices Pizza: (Depends on size) I can eat a pack of oatmeal with peanut butter. Only that. Can do coffees Can’t do Ice caps! Major sugar dump. and i cant tolerate ice cream any more can do yogurts umm typical meal: 1/4 - 1/2c Carbs, and for meats 3sm meatballs, 1 Thigh, 5 pieces of chicken fries by itself). can do half chicken breast with 1/4-1/2c rice I still dont or know how to get the carb/protein and vegetables. I just have room for the carbs/meat. Which is fine because i hate alot of veggies. And fruits; I have in smoothies; I can do around 8-16oz, depends on what I make. so in short, I still cant eat alot at once but i get hungry every 2 hours, i can do 3 if i am not working, and just being home or out and about since i cant fit in the veggies, if i didnt would be like 1/4-1/2 meat, 1/4-1/2c Pasta, potatoe, rice, and then like 2 broccoli. Whats the point if the broccolli then, especially if i favor favor the carbs and protein before tge veggies. Waste if time to cook 2-3 broccollis.. I try and get veggies in by juicing, but its a battle. So far i only like green veggies to juice. I would never eat celery, cucumber, spinach, but it took me a while to build up to be able to drink it soooo what about you?

    Stomach pains

Day 1 here and in the same boat. I have not experienced nausea, which I feel good about. However, like you, everytime I sip, I get small pain in the stomach. I am sipping every what seams like 10 minutes things like broth, Powerade Zero, and flavored water. We can do this!
  4. Today was my surgery. Their scale said I weight in at 249. Bummer. So let me just say, the recovery was the hardest for me. But as the hours went on, it got easier and easier. I walked twice. It was suppose to be overnight, but they only granted elective surgery, due to covid, if it was an outpatient. I still have not vomited, so crossing fingers. I do feel little rising up pains after I drink. I am drinking pretty much every 10 minutes, sips. Broth, Gatorade Zero, Water. My doctor also said he repaired a hernia I had! I can't wait for the results! Do yall weigh yourselves? I think I need a new scale.

7 months out, "Touch Down" Goal Met

yes - it'll stop - and then many of us bounce back up 10-20 lbs a few months later. So you may just look like Olive Oyl for a few months. If it's really worrying you, you can always come up a bit on calories - but keep in mind that most of us do have that 10-20 lb rebound

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Today is day 9 since surgery and I have been struggling hard mentally and emotionally pretty much all week. It all kind of crashed down directly after my post-op appointment on Monday. Part of the program was getting the "bible" as part of the education process. The "bible" is the program's bariatric handbook that details out every single step in the days leading up the surgery, the day of surgery, and the weeks following. It's a road map for how things will go. My doctor...is the medical director for the program. And on Monday, he pretty much told me that he doesn't usually follow the handbook and that I should not pay attention to it. So, while right now I am still on a liquid phase (clear fluids and 3 protein shakes a day), I was anticipating the follow up at week 3 to progress to pureed foods as tolerated (protein shakes are never going to really go away). Instead, my doctor wants me to stay on liquids for 8 weeks. And while I understand his rationale for it as it will continue to provide an accelerated weight loss for a much longer period of time, it completely shattered me because right now the only thing I do with my time every day...is consume fluids. I am only allowed to drink 1 ounce of fluids every fifteen minutes. I am supposed to spread that ounce over the course of 15 minutes. Literally every waking moment is me sipping from a little 1 ounce medicine cup. The thought of doing this for 7 more weeks? I spent pretty much all day Monday and Tuesday crying because I just don't see how this can be sustainable. I'm getting 52-56 ounces of fluid in me every day at this point, but I am also waking up pretty much around 3am with my mouth completely dry, so it feels like I am barely managing to keep hydrated. And my doctor did say that at any point if I decide that I want to start integrating appropriate food into my diet, that I just have to let him know and he will work with me and adjust my diet. I just hate that he's putting that burden on my shoulders because it feels to me that when I make that decision, I am tapping out on accelerated weight loss and admitting defeat. I forced myself to go back to work onsite yesterday for a few hours just to get myself out of the house. It helped my mood and mindset some, but I came home really wiped out, so it may have been pushing things a bit much (on top of what is probably too aggressive an exercise plan so soon after surgery). Today I'm feeling a little bit better mentally and emotionally, but still pretty ragged. I'm tired of drinking these tiny little sips from these tiny little cups, but there's not really anything I can do about it. The best I can hope for is get through another week and a half and then ask if I can do 1 ounce of fluid every 8-10 minutes.

    STOP MAKING EXCUSES

Not only is @MIKEYY84 an attention seeking narcissist, but a misogynist as well. I'm sick of people telling me oh you must find a woman close to your age but I'm yet to meet a woman over 30 that doesn't have a bunch of kids yet and also the issue with the woman biological clock could stop at 40; as I'm yet to begin a family and it will be a year from now before I get near my goal weight and start a family so the only logical choice is looking for a girl that's around 10 years below as I want 4 kids which takes 10 years to make happen and that's only if all things are going perfectly so yeah it's hard to start dating when at my age I'm ready for kids and marriage and every girl I've spoken to anywhere near 30+ has kids and divorcee so it's hard indeed so I've made the decision for myself to look 10 years younger at least so I'll be able to have many kids https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/419131-i-can’t-date-overweight-people/?do=findComment&comment=4746355 **my own kids my own DNA** very important https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/419131-i-can’t-date-overweight-people/?do=findComment&comment=4746356 it is harder to find a girl as you get older because most have a bunch of kids or baggage but I've already decided because I want a big family I'll definitely have to look at ladies about 10 years below me so that there's no issues with them having children https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/419131-i-can’t-date-overweight-people/?do=findComment&comment=4772700 provided she has big breasts like DD or better , I like big butt too https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/411641-who-will-like-me-skinny/?do=findComment&comment=4746361 my age range is 18-25 https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/428004-aus-male-looking-for-girl-18-25-to-text-whatsapp/ I want to find a woman that deserves everything I have to offer if she has big tits https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/428743-can-we-just-be-for-real/?do=findComment&comment=4823793

Morning of mishaps & a happy dance

Congrats! Keep doing your Hoosier Happy Dance, it's a lot of work & stressing to get to this point. My happy dance was sorta robbed by Covid19 like many others, but I finally have my date & am on day 5 of my 10 day liver shrinking diet!

    6 months post op today!

you started out at a pretty low weight for a WLS patient, so I'm not surprised that you've lost slowly (although 10 lbs a month really isn't slow - I started out at over 300 lbs, and other than the first month, 10 lbs a month is about what I lost as well...). Anyway, starting BMI is a major factor in your rate of weight loss, so your weight loss is about what I'd expect
  12. Hi everyone. Today is 6 months out for me. Doing well. No problems at all...except constipation. I drink a lot of water, get in the recommended protein, exercise and take in less than 20 grams of carbs. a day. My surgery weight was 203 on 1/15/20. Today I weigh 133.2 ...7/15/20. I’m pretty happy with that. I do have to confess I get a bit jealous when I read a lot of you lose quite a bit more than that in the same amount of time. I have lost 10 pounds every months...almost consistently! I can say I have rarely ever went over 500 calories a day since day 1. My goal is 120 lbs. almost there!!! Just wanted to check in and wish everyone well!!!!

    Acid reflux and band fills

Hi I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice. I've had two bands fitted over the last 10 years. First one came undone after 3.5 years. I did get to a good weight but suffered with chest pains and reflux acid. When it came undone all the symptoms stopped. After 2 years without the band and gaining a couple of stone I had it repaired. I now have 5.5 ml in a 10 ml band. I'm still 18 pounds over weight but I have stayed the same for over a year. However my acid reflux is really bad. I'm considering having all fluid taking out but the nurse who I have just spoke to says do it slowly it might just be to tight. She gets paid £100 every time so this was an answer I expected. Has anyone else come across this problem? I can't stand to be so uncomfortable especially as the weight loss this time hasnt been very successful. I do know my weight will go up though. Any advice I would be grateful!

    STOP MAKING EXCUSES

I'm sorry but I'm so sick of seeing posts of people obviously cheating or making excuses to cheat and then crying because they didn't lose weight... I'm sorry but if you're not ready to commit to this program and you're not ready to change your life then you're not ready for surgery okay.... Stop lying to yourself and stop making excuses to cheat. Stop blaming everyone else for your failures. I spent about 20 years living obese but I woke up one day and made the mental decision and commitment to change my life and I didn't let anyone or anything interfere with my decision. 10 months later and I'm half the size u was literally I've lost 159lbs and I'm skinny and I'm healthy and happy and loving life. You cannot begin this program thinking you can just breeze through without actually making an effort okay. I'm saying this because I want people to make sure they are ready before they commit to being operated on. It's a huge decision. A huge commitment and mental stamina is needed to be successful okay. I'm sorry but I'm over seeing all these people making you feel better for failing or cheating.... Tighten up. Toughen up.
  15. Im scheduled for vsg on July 21st, I am currently on my 10 liquid liver shrinking diet. My sciatic nerve pain is horribly painful & costing me sleep. Would I be allowed to get a cortisone shot this close to my surgery date? My situation is a little different, I am a veteran & my wls will be performed by a VA surgeon about 350 miles away. Separate from the VA, I also have private insurance & would be using a local provider that has given me a cortisone shot about 9 months ago. I just want to make sure it's safe & wouldn't hinder my wls date.
  16. Hang in there! I'm 3,5 weeks post-op, stall for last 10 days, 0 loss, but I believe it will move again next week. Hardest part is staying on course.

Just picked up these slacks and crop top at the seamstress. 5 foot me ALWAYS needs alterations. ;[ Will need the appropriate shoes and accessories in time... Loving these new linen Bermuda shorts and cotton cool tops for humid Florida summers. 95 today. And, Yay, this time last summer July 14, 2019 I weighed 171. Today, I weigh 115. I have not worn shorts since WLS. I feel much cooler and lighter on my feet this summer then previous ones. So pumped!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

So I had bypass and my surgery happened about 2:30 PM. I got to my hospital room around 6:00 PM. I would have been fine at home after about 9-10 PM. Those first few hours I was pretty out of it, but even then I was was getting up and walking around by myself. The only time I needed help moving around was my first walk around 7 PM. I was pretty dopey and made my husband walk with me. The only thing I needed all night was ice chips that I could have gotten myself if allowed. Ultimately it is up to you and your comfort level. Some questions to think about: Have you had surgery before? How did you feel after anesthesia? How was your nausea? Do you have someone that would be comfortable with you in the hotel post-op? Do you have any conditions that already make it hard for you to get around? Ps. If you do decide to go with the outpatient, ask your surgeon about a scopolamine patch. It really helped eliminate almost all post-op nausea for me.
  21. I had a VSG in January 2019 with Dr Fitzer. I ended up with a complication and stayed at Reston for just over 6 weeks, but Dr Fitzer was amazing and his entire staff (and the AMAZING nursing staff and Roz at RHC) were great. Complications happen but Dr Fitzer and his personality made it as good as it could have been. I am fully recovered and my weightless is right on track. I still recommend him to people that ask.

    New to the forum

Hi everyone, I hope it’s ok to post here. I just signed up to hopefully find some additional support in this journey. I finished my 6th dietician appointment June 29 and currently waiting on insurance approval (I have UHC and they require a 6 month process and a COE.... ugh). Anyway, my surgery is scheduled for August 24 as the soonest date, but I’m nervous it may be postponed due to COVID-19. Of course those folks are more important but I hope you understand where I’m coming from. I was due to get married in September, but for everyone’s safety, we cancelled the wedding and will elope somewhere instead. I’m relieved as wedding planning is stressful and I find myself yo-yoing, of course. I have a lot of faith in myself to be successful with my sleeve surgery. I’ve struggled with my weight for most of my life and I’m looking forward to feeling healthy, confident, and having more energy. I’m looking forward to learning from all of you! Thanks!

How do you eat going out?

Yep, ordering appetisers are the way to go though I used to struggle to eat those too. I opt for seafood whenever possible. Oh & make sure you keep to the no drinking before of after. I made that mistake out of the habit of ordering a pre dinner drink when out & I could barely eat two or three bites of what I ordered. Don’t be afraid to mention to the staff (privately if you prefer) that you’re on a medically restricted diet otherwise you may face the wait staff asking if something was wrong with your unfinished meal. My biggest difficulty is needing time to eat. When everyone else eats quickly, the wait staff are wanting to clear plates & you’re not even half way through your meal. Since we’ve opened up a lot more here in Australia, I’ve met friends for lunch a couple of times but some places only offer tables for 45mins. By the time you read the menu, wait for your order to be taken, prepared & served, there’s little time left to eat. I had 10 mins at a cafe last week. My friend devoured her lunch. I got three bites in & took the rest home for dinner. Are you able to take a small cold bag with ice bricks with you when you travel? I take frozen keto frittata muffins with me & refreeze the ice bricks overnight. There are some decent protein bars around too. Just ensure they’re low in carbs, sugar & fat. You may to try a few first because some can be too gluggy & my tummy complains. Easy to grab a high protein yoghurt from a corner store too.
  24. Well... I went from 200 for 10 days to 199 this morning. ((sigh)) I'll take it! ONWARD BYPASSERS!
  25. I called my surgeon’s office today because he submitted for a VSG to RYGB and was told it was denied because they want me to do 6months of supervised weight loss. I just had my VSG in December 2019! plus, their reason isn’t even listed under the revision surgery section in the handbook. Since then I’ve developed a new hiatal hernia, GERD to my mid esophagus and esophagitis. Of course I’ll file an appeal but I’m just frustrated. I’m sick of only getting 4-5hrs of sleep a night because the chest pain from the GERD is so bad it wakes me up. Im sick of taking the max allowed PPIs on top of 8-12 tums a day, and Thorazine for the hiccups causes by the GERD. I sent my surgeon a message asking for another prescription because I can’t take it anymore. I'm jus so frustrated. I just don’t want to be in pain anymore.
