  1. I think more and more insurers are approving these band revisions ( I don’t know anything about sleeve to bypass). I’m not just dealing with weight gain, which is not above even 30...going down that dark path and fastI, but now the muscles in my lower esophagus have started to weaken and deteriorate, food is stuck all the time, the port has caused a hernia, and the band has slipped. And all this happening out of the blue within the last 5 months!

    August bypassers/sleevers

August 13th for my revision from band to sleeve. I can’t wait to get this band OUT! Plus I have a hiatal hernia that feels like a baby’s foot up in my rib cage... ugh!! Gallbladder going too. I hope I’m not an outpatient...have a call with Dr. on Friday. Good luck all you August Surgery Daters!

    July surgery

@clsumrall I noticed you were confused on my earlier response. Assuming your confused from my stats on my prior VSG? I'm having a revision of my sleeve next Wednessay.
  4. It's been almost a year and my scars are fading really well on the sides and back, unfortunately... my tuck was really tight in the front and actually split open from the pressure on the incision (took about 3 months to heal). That scar is much wider and darker. The surgeon said he would revise it if I have another procedure, but I'm not sure about getting anything else done yet. I kind of like myself the way I am now :-).
  5. I have been working towards this day for a bit over a year. Tricare have you do many pre-op classes even though I am a revision due to complications. My lap band never really worked the way I anticipated. Either too tight or not enough restriction. The band has taught me some very poor eating habits. I am nervous about failure, health issues, toilet issues, gas issues, dumping issues; what if I cause myself irreversible health issues. I am 53, worried about my health when I am older. I guess..I admit...i am scared. I am suppose to be happy, what is wrong with me. [emoji53] Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Hello everyone, I have not been on here a while, but I had my revision from lap band to RNY surgery on July 9th. I was about 280 day of surgery and left 2 days later at 287 (?). Today I'm down to 274. I was out for 5 hours, the surgeon said there was a lot of scar tissue. I thought it was kind of cool because the surgery was robot assisted, which I haven't seen used much for bariatric procedures. Anyways, the root of my post...Lately I've been having strange dizzyness and head compression feelings. I strongly do not think this is related to the RNY because I've actually been able to get 60g protein and about 48oz of liquid per day. I've found I can drink more than 1oz per 15 minutes without feeling poorly, and my urine color is not dark yellow. BP is normal and blood sugar is normal (I checked it even though I'm not a diabetic) Also, I've had these kinds of dizziness/pulsed-compression feelings before when I tapered onto or off of antidepressants. I'm almost positive that's what I'm feeling. I take 75mg in the morning of lamictal for cyclothymic disorder (Essentially a version of bipolar-II where I don't have mania, but instead have atypical depression). I am on a very small dose, in the past, small doses worked very well for me. I believe the normal bipolar-2 dose is about 150mg. Anyways, I take 3x25mg tablets in the morning. I've done some reading and found that lamictal is poorly metabolized post RNY, so I was wondering if anyone here had to change theirs, and if so, by what multiple? (e.g. 4x amount, 2x, etc..). I know my psychiatrist is very willing to work with me on it, but I'd like to have a general idea before I go see him. I should have had them check for blood levels post surgery, but alas, I didn't. I also have panic disorder/General Anxiety and that was "more or less" under control with 2x25mg Luvox in the morning and 2x25MG Luvox in the evening. Luvux is also supplied in a very small tablet. (Both Luvix and lamictal are smaller than a claratin). I haven't seen much on Luvox directly since it is an older SSRI that everyone has pretty much forgot about, but for me it worked much better than the newer ones like Lexapro. Typically, with me, I get abnormal yawning reflexes when my Serotonin is being affected by an SSRI, and I'm not seeing it, so I suspect the metabolism of the lamictal is more the culprit (Although the wierd dizziness happens with SSRI taper as well). My doc told me that I did not need to crush any tablets smaller than an M&M, so I have not been crushing them. Thanks for any thoughts and I'm excited to be part of the RNY club.

    Forever

I can relate. Back in 2011, when I was 370 lbs. I wanted to make changes, but I didn't want to commit to anything permanent. Well, I got exactly that. I lost 70 lbs, but then started gaining some back and I just couldn't break 300 for more than a day. No matter what I did. I struggled for like 7 years. Finally I had the band removed and revised to the bypass. I can't tell you how many times I've regretted not getting the damn bypass in the first place. Those 7ish years could have been SO MUCH BETTER! But... I was too afraid to commit, and in the end, that's what sabotaged my weight loss, lack of commitment and follow through. So, if you want something that's going to work, and last, and your biggest issue is that it's going to be a "forever" change... you have to ask yourself, how long do you want to be overweight? Do you want to get only some of the way to your goal and then have that non-permanent solution fail you? And yes, I know that there is a rebound risk with all WLS. But, the changes that I personally have been forced to make, in order to make this revision to bypass work, are forever changes, because they need to be in order for them to work.

Will I be able to get the Surgery

Perhaps its a way the doctor could work out the medical necessity of the surgery with your insurance. Im no expert when comes to insurance but they tend to need reasons and that *could* be one maybe, because people have to have revisions from lapbands to other surgeries too, maybe the balloon has some failure statistics they are privileged to that we are not. Will I be able to get the Surgery

I’m not sure what you mean when you say revision from the balloon? There’s no revision needed as I stated I lost 17.20lbs however, it wasn’t effective as I’d liked. Thanks for your feedback!

Will I be able to get the Surgery

Try anyway to see if your insurance will cover something, even as a revisions from balloon to which ever procedure you are going with. Check for hernias, GERD, everything EVERYTHING...VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 169
  12. The total weight loss is a combination from the band and the bypass, the site doesn't have any features for us that dealt with revision sadly. I'm still down 67 lbs in just under 4 months though... which is still cool. But revisions are typically slower to the initial drop than everyone else. I'm happy with my overall progress, even if I did have a 7 year stall with the band.
  13. Hi I got my revision surgery from a band to bypass scheduled for Tuesday September 18. I started to sweat while on the phone!! If any of you are people of faith please say a quick prayer for me!

A commited woman, a strong woman & being a pretty woman also can't hurt Congratulations on a beautiful revision of you!👍😛.
  15. I am scheduled for Sept 10 for the GERD. I have had my sleeve for the past six years I’ve had nothing but complications. I didn’t experience the GERD till six months after the sleeve is done but they didn’t diagnose the gERD till almost 3 years later. I’ve been on three different PPIs, Bought a $7000 bed to elevate me while I sleep, and have to take another medication four times a day just to give me a little relief. For the past three years been trying to get a Stretta procedure approved. Each time getting denied. This year my insurance finally started covering Stretta but because of the insurance they wanted pic. The ESG showed I had a hiatal hernia and polyps. So now I’m going to be having A gastric sleeve to Roux en Y revision.
  16. My journey started 2002 with gastric bypass Roux n y with band. I went from 438 to 308 and then started gaining again 2 years later. For years I fought to lose with no results. I had developed a fistula in my pouch. Long story short, I had revision June 7, 2017 to repair the fistula and had to have half of remnant stomach removed. I have now lost from 385 to 298 and feeling great . Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Lost 80lb in one year. Had gastric bypass revision due to a fistula in my pouch. Surgery was June 7, 2017 Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I am schedule for a Sleeve to RNY on Sept 10 for GERD. During my consultation with my surgeon who did my sleeve, he stated that I have polyps. Because of that he going to remove the stomach and the pylorus. Reasoning there is no way for them to monitor post surgery. Has anyone else has to have the stomach removed because of the polyps?
  19. I wanted to post this to the LapBander’s out there... Banded Dec 2012 and was doing great! I went from 230 to 138 and stayed that way with fills up to the end of 2015. Then when I got to 165 in Feb of 2018, I went in for a fill and they found that my band had slipped and I started having lower muscle esophageal problem. I’m thinking great...my BMI isn’t high enough to get the revision paid for and I don’t want to have to go through proving AGAIN, that I need a tool for managing my weight. Plus, my blood pressure is starting to go through the roof! (I’m apple shape so my fat is around my organs) The dr told me I would probably get a denial but we could appeal and do a peer to peer review. Low and behold after waiting 1 week, on the first submission, I got approved. surgery is August 13th 2018!! Eeeek!! I have United Health which has a “once a lifetime” bariatric surgery coverage ( BCBS of Texas did my band). So for all those who are thinking about a revision or band not working, I highly recommended checking into it.
  20. Hey there! I have a band to sleeve revision scheduled for Aug 13th!!! I’m having the revision, hernia repair and gallbladder out. Has anyone had all this done at once, and how long was your stay at the hospital?
  21. I agree with the posts about not losing the weight and GERD. My doctor and I decided on the sleeve as I’ve never had GERD. A little over 2 months post surgery and I still don’t experience it. I do hear a lot about the bypass being better for diabetes, but I stopped all my diabetes medications two days after starting my pre-op diet, and I’m already down to normal levels for A1c and haven’t restarted any of the meds. Personally, the sleeve was my number one choice because it’s less invasive and had fewer complications like dumping. I am losing at a slower rate than the bypass people who had their surgeries around the same time, but I’m still down 43 pounds in 66 days and 99 pounds since I started the WLS journey. I was initially wary because the sleeve is a newer procedure. Turns out the first record I found of it was in 1988. Sure, it’s been perfected and changed over the years, but it’s always been one of the steps of DS. So it’s actually been around quite a while. I found a great surgeon who is very well known for WLS and the rest is history. Also, I don’t believe the majority of sleeve patients end up revising, but since you see the posts of the people who do, it seems like a bigger majority than it is. After all, no one really makes posts about nothing changing 😂
  22. I had the sleeve to bypass revision in May of this year due to GERD. I was on pantaprozole (sp?) for a few months and nothing helped. I also wasn’t losing weight so we agreed on a revision. havent had GERD since and it’s such a relief. I too had no ulcers was well worth it in my opinion
  23. Sorry if this has been asked before. Little background first. I had sleeve 3 years ago and had some GERD prior to surgery. It was well controlled with medication. My surgeon did an upper GI prior to surgery to make sure it was right for me. No hernia found and no damage that was severe enough to switch to bypass. For the first two years after surgery I was on lansoprazole which was controlling the reflux somewhat. Last year, I started having trouble eating. I would have pain and feel like I had a ball sitting in my stomach. I was switched to Protonix and have been on it since. In the recent months the acid has come back. I have also had issues with getting solid foods down. My surgeons office doubled my Protonix and added carafate 4 times a day. And the reflux got worse! I was tested for an ulcer and do not have one. I now have an upper GI scheduled to see what’s going on in my stomach. My questions, who has been revised to bypass? Did it help your reflux issues? What made you and your surgeon finally settle on revision? How many different types of acid medication did you try first? Did you have issues with insurance covering it? Thank you ahead of time. 😊
  24. Got rid of mine ( regrets since 2005) and had RNY the same day. Maybe you can get a revision? RNY June 11,2018
  25. My doctor does sleeve-to-bypass revisions for those who have GERD or those who don't lose weight with the sleeve.
