    Gross.. But need help!

I'm no doctor but at least they claim to have an answer and that is a good thing. If it's a compressed nerve can they do anything for it? If they can't, is it keeping you from walking? The weight loss from the surgery should help you get to the goal of running around with your two year old I would think so you have to hang on to that. It's hard when we hit these bumps in the road to remain positive. Venting and pushing through it will hopefully help some. I'll be glad to listen!
  3. Hi everyone! I was banded March 8th: _ 1st fill March 29th as I had no restriction - 2nd fill was April 24th I have had very modest weight loss, about 9lbs 2 lbs of which I regained last week before the 2nd fill. I have had a problem with vomiting often but inconsistently on different foods, ie. some days I am ok to eat salads with chicken and some days I am not. I am a little discouraged as I keep hearing there is a sweet spot but I am not finding it. I find it difficult to eat as I throw up and also don't feel full with little amounts when I can eat. I almost have my regular appetite. I was also told to take an antireflux medicine daily. Has anyone found this helps with getting food stuck/vomiting and pressure below the breastbone? I could use anyone's advice right about now. Savannah

    Desperate!

Hello! I am new here. I found this forum while searching for a Doc. to get a fill. I had the lap band done last July through Belight weight & doctors in Detroit. I have not had much help from them regarding my problem. We moved & due to weather & the move had not been able to make it back to Detroit since Ocotober! I am currently in Wisconsin & am trying to find another doctor in driving distance to get a fill. I have not gained any weight since October. However, I have not lost any either. Has it been too long? What does this mean for me? Will I ever be able to find a docotor in my area? Was this move the ruin of my lap band? HELP! If anyone knows any of these answers I'd greatly appreciate if you'd take the time to let me know. THANKS!
  5. I am having the sleeve done in Mexico in November 18th and I am getting nervous. I have a low BMI 30.4 and I know this surgery is usually done on heavier people but i have struggled for the past 6 years with my weight like a rollercoaster and I am tired of all the fad diets. I am hoping to hear some postive comments about this surgery and maybe even some comments from people like me who do not have a high BMI and have done this surgery. I am going with Dr. Ramos Kelly at INT and would like any info or comments. My sister and I will be recording our "adventure"and sharing our experience in Mexico and our journey to hopefully more healthy and beautiful bodies. Any posts would be appreciated : )

    Hello

Welcome Claire! I completely understand wanting to just survive the recovery phase. Especially those first couple of weeks! I too could give a wink about weight or meds immediately post-op, I just wanted to concentrate on getting some kind of nutrition in my body so I didn't feel so weak. I'm sorry that you're suffering from a cold. I can only imagine how much more frustrating and taxing it is on your recovery process. However, like all things in life, the cold will pass, your recovery will come and you will be well on your way to success. This site is a great place to come and ask questions, read others experiences and just have conversations in general about the sleeve. I hope your recovery is quick and that quickly and positively adjust to this new life style. Good luck to you!

    The person in the mirror

I don't see my weight loss either. In fact I made a before/current picture to post on the boards and once I looked at it I threw it away. I've done the superimposed image and I SEE how much I've lost by placing myself now and in June over each other and dimming the current one but when I just see a picture... nada... and I try to avoid the mirrors or, like Barb, I'll cry.
  8. Even I have to say it was a very inspiring show. It almost made me wonder if I could have done it on my own. Don't get me wrong, I am so greatful to my band, and I know in my heart, I needed to do this to combat the 100 pounds of weight I was carrying. But I wish the medical community could find the answer, if there even IS one,to the growing problem of obesity. Sigh! Anyone else see it? What were your thoughts?
  9. My name is Jim and I just had lap band on 11/06/08, I have already lost over 45 LBS!!!!! Well okay, I am streaching the truth a little. I have lost a couple of pounds but have not weighed in yet waiting to see what I lose in the first week. I have been off work, as I work in a physically stressful position and I have been trying to return to a normal lifestyle, but I am constantly fatigued. I did some basic figuring last night and believe that is because I have only been taking in about 350 calories a day. so I am in the process of doubling that today with the High Protien Boost! The only alarming thing that has happened is I had awoken to bruises all around the port sight to the large incision. Have I overdone it on the lifting weight limit, or is the natural to occur after you stop recieving the anti blood clot injections that I had been getting every 6 hours while I was hospitalized (been home 3 days)? Good Luck everyone! Jim

good news but not so good news

Look for a specialty service, My hospital has a Surgical Weight loss center and they are wonderful. Your best bet is to check with all the hospitals in your area to see what they offer, and go to a seminar or two and talk to people in the support groups at each one. Good lick in you search. It's hard to have a bad doctor with bad workers.
  11. hi , its my birthday to day and the start to a new fresh year.. had my band fitted end of sept 2006 and i weighed 32 stones (448 pounds) i now weigh 15 stone ( 212 pounds) i was bigger before i was banded i weighed another 4 stone , so i was 36 stone to start with but with determination and thewill to prove i could lose weight and so they would do the banding i stuck it out and lost the two stone they asked me to and two more i was well shocked. well ive got 2 stone to go and they said i might be able to get cosmetic surgery for my lose skin . i cant believe ive got this far. its been really tough some times but the way i feel now has made it all for the best well happy new year to everybody and keep up the good work u r all doing ... the band isnt for every body but its been the best thing ive ever done. and i would definately reccommend it to every body .. good luck to all for 2008 ( its time for me to live now) love kym
  12. I had to see the nutritionist, surgeon, and exercise gal once a month for 3 months. I had to have 2 yrs proof of my weight--did that thru family physician. I had to do psych evaluation then follow up w/him. (which ins. is denying pmt so I'm appealing) I was on b.p. med and a recent test for sleep apnea showed possible sleep apnea so I had co-morbidities. If you contact your insurance they can email you what's required for the surgery. Keep a copy of that & also, in hindsight, I'd call & verify that everything needed for surgery is a covered expense.
  13. Thanks sunflwr76 I have sadly had to learn over the past few years how many of my friends really weren't true... As soon as I got my band and lost weight and got confident, my friends didn't want me around anymore, even though I was the same person. These were generally the same people who knocked me for getting a Lapband on the first place. After all the drama last time, this time I have been straight up with my friends - I've told them if they don't like or support my decision of RNY bypass then they should bugger off now! WLS is far from the EASY WAY OUT!!! The amount of work put in pre and post op, the supplements you take to support your diet, the emotional toll it takes on your body as well as physical, the hospital stays when things don't go right, the realization that you can't eat a lot of the things you're friends are as well as making the conciencious decision to not eat those cheater "slider" foods as my surgeon calls them (high cal drinks, chocolate, ice cream etc) is NOT EASY! I wish that I had the physical and emotional willpower to just eat healthy and work out. But it's just not easy. Thankyou for all your well wishes... I will keep you all posted as it gets closer... I'm literally at the stage now where I am counting down the days until my liquid diet starts (12 days). I have to do 2 weeks of all shake diet before my op, and then the usual 2 weeks of liquids either... Been there and done it all before with my band, so I know the struggles ahead. I hope you start feeling better soon
  14. Hey All... I'm Jacee and this is my story. I am 23, female and living in Australia. In 2008 I underwent Lapband surgery and went from (127kgs) 275lbs to (70kgs) 150lbs. I was initially very successful and I loved my band. In early 2010 I started suffering for undiagnosed gallstones, which meant that in turn my Lapband had to be loosened from unrelentless vomiting. My gallbladder was removed in December 2010 and by then I'd gained back (20kgs) 45lbs. In early 2011 I suffered from a Lapband slip and my surgeon recommended I undergo RNY Bypass. At first it was a very daunting decision that I wasn't ready to make, but within a month I changed my mind. My codependency to food had returned due to a constant feeling of hunger and an urge to eat after being so severely restricted for 3yrs. Our health system in Australia is very different to the US. We do have public health provided by our tax dollars, but it is a VERY LONG wait for elective surgery. When I was 20 and got my Lapband I didn't have private health, so I had 2 options - wait on the public waiting list - 3-5yrs or pay for outright. So I took the second option and $12,000 later I had a Lapband. When my Lapband slipped in 2011 I didn't have private health cover available to cover the RNY bypass, and my surgeon told me without private health he could only put me on his public wait list for revised surgery. It's been 10months wait now and I go in for surgery in under 4 weeks. I currently weigh close to 140kgs which is over 300lbs. My BMI is 49, nearly 50. The last 10months of my life have been devastating emotionally and physically. I have felt and lived success, but here I am now, bigger than I've ever been, ready to start all over. I'm literally terrified, but at the same time, I am extremely eager to get my "restriction" back. To feel healthy, happy and confident again. I'd love for my husband to know thin me, to feel beautiful for him. I also want him to know that in the next few years I'm going to be healthy enough to give him the family he so eagerly desires. I can't wait to fit into my AU size 12 - US size 8 - clothes again that are piled in boxes in my cupboard. I have so much to strive towards because I've been there, I've felt success, and now I want in more than ever. I wish you all luck and plenty of love on your journeys, I'd love to hear other stories. My surgery is in Brisbane Australia on the 25th of May 2012. All the best, Jacee

    Stalled Big Time

Congrats on your loss thus far. Great work! How much more do you feel you need to lose? (Your weight is not shown in your info.) Are you getting in your Protein? Are you tracking your food intake? Are you getting in your fluids?
  16. I'm really getting nervous now. I have people telling me that the lap band, is a fad... You will never keep the weight off permenantly.... You'll eventually start eating like you always have.... and gain everything you have lost, plus!!!! Are there any Veteran Bansters here..... more then 5 yrs???? I need to know how those people are doing!!!! Please tell me if you were able to maintain!!! Tell me your complications if any... tell me... tell me everything!!! :tongue_smilie:
  17. This week it'll be 5 years since my surgery. I was 265 before my RNY and my lowest weight was 185-190. I stepped on the scale yesterday and I'm 215. The doctor/nurses croon when I had my surgery were never helpful and never helped after surgery with what I needed to do. supplements, food, nothing. They told me I could eat tums for my Calcium. I have books, and the Internet, but for every thing I find "to" do, something else says not to do that or take that. I badly need help. With everything. Is there a way to find someone to be like a sponsor or something? That I can talk to one on one to help me figure out what I need to do/take/eat/avoid and help answer questions if I have any? I'm going to look for support groups, but in the mean time... I don't want to wait to get back on track. Are there any fb groups or anything? Anyone who can point me in the right direction? I don't take any supplements, Vitamins, or anything. Any time I'd get what I thought I needed, I would be told it's the wrong thing. Always got the wrong snack /meal... Eventually, I got tired of wasting my money. Now I'm paying for it. Please tell me not all is lost and I had the surgery for nothing... That I can turn things around... That it's not too late...
  18. Every body is different and I can clearly tell you that it is normal to worry. At first I was like "yeah right lose too much weight" but when I went for my 6 or 7 week visit and noticed i had lost 53 lbs, I started to wonder myself. Then the weight just fell off, I went from the highest of 350 to my lowest of 225 within 6 months. . . but. . . then my body stopped dead in its tracks. . . I held a plateau for 3 1/2 months, wouldn't budge at all. . . it's natures way of letting the brain catch up with the body I think. . . I ate everything but in tiny amounts. . .I didn't care anymore thinking that i was meant to stay fat at 230 lbs forever. . . then I took a mini vacation and when i came back well hell, i had lost 5 lbs. . . the darn plateau was over. . . it made me aware that i do have to watch what i shovel into my mouth and i have to exercise. . i was really happy so now i'm back on track again. . . with the sleeve you will eat small amounts (very small amounts) yes, you can definately get out of control by finding slider foods (mostly carbs, they go down really good) I felt like a kid in a candy store, dense protein hurt, toast and chips didn't, veggies killed me, chocolate and ice cream didn't, but you have to really really want this in order not to let it control you. I was lucky I never gained any weight with getting out of control. . . now i'm back in control, the head hunger is horrible, it haunts me all the time, but you must believe in what you want and concentrate on the goal. . . I hope this helps a bit, most times i feel I just ramble. . . good luck, your going to do great, just like the rest of us. . .

Weight....163.6 Had a cup of hot tea with skim milk this am. Did P90X workout with Jamie for 40 minutes. Lunch is a salad (lettuce, cheese, egg, bacon bits, mushrooms and banana peppers) approximately 2 cups with ranch dressing. Also 2 medium slices french bread with butter.
  20. A little concerned about it -- I just don't want to fail - I have failed at many weight loss attempts and I do not want to fail at this !! Encouragement would be appreciated.
  21. Hi all, I'm new to forums and chat rooms, but getting ready to have this procedure has prompted me to seek out others. I'm almost there, just need my EGD and set up surgery date, looks like it will be in early May 2007. I read several responses to Melissa Dangers posting and felt encouraged already. Glad to know I'm not alone in my struggles with this decision, it's like you guys/girls are in my head - it's comforting to know someone else has walked the walk and talked the talk. I feel pressured from my thin friend who wonders why I couldn't just keep working on the weight loss like I'm doing now (lost 17lbs since Christmas!!) and not go through with this. She really doesn't understand how that I cannot face another big weight loss failure from a "diet" to gain it all back, like I've done for the past 30 years. I'll be sure to share with her some of your sage words of wisdom to help her understand. I too am afraid of the pre-surgery diet and what it is going to take after surgery to succeed, but when you need to lose over 100lbs, I've decided this is the tool I need to have to be successful. Good luck to everyone out there.

    Filled today!!!

So I had my first fill today. 2.5cc. He had some trouble finding my port. He said it was tipped, and he had to angle the syringe twords my feet abit to get the right angle. He told me I should remeber this in case someone who isn't him need to adjust my band. He said this is not a bad thing, and does not mean there is a problem, it's just how I healed. I am officially down 20 pounds since my surgery weight and I have dropped 1 pants size. He was pleased with that. I would like it to be more, but I know I didn't get this way overnight, and I can't fix it overnight. So I guess I keep plugging along until my next fill in 6weeks.

    Eye Mystery

My vision has gotten worse over the years since I was about 8 (when I first got my glasses). In the last year or two it has actually started to get better. I went from a contact prescription of -5.25 to -4.25 in a year, and that's a lot faster than the rate at which it had gotten worse over the years. I'm convinced it has something to do with my weight, which is making me consider waiting until I'm at goal before I get lasik to fix them permanently.
  24. I had my first fill at the end of March. I went back to my surgeon 3 1/2 weeks later for a f/u visit with every intention of getting another fill. I had 1.1 cc's put in at first. I haven't felt much restriction, just sometimes and I PB'd once. I told the doctor that I PB'd once and that I felt the "golf ball" about 2x per week. He told me to hold off for another month because he didn't want me to be too filled to get anything down. He has been happy with my weight loss. So.... I took his advice and will wait until next month. I have just heard nightmare stories about bandsters being overfilled. Just watch what you eat and try to stick to low carbs and high protein. Good luck!!
  25. I had my seminar tonight and I love the surgeon and his entire practice! He thoroughly explained everything and was very real and truthful. He went over all 3 procedures but basically said he will probably not be doing anymore lap band surgeries come next year. He actually sees that entire procedure fading out soon. I asked about a pre op diet and he said he really doesn't require one or require his patients to lose a certain amount of weight prior to surgery. Unless however they are super obese and surgery soul be too risky at their current weight. I turned in my paperwork and they said I should receive a call in a week or so after they contact my insurance. I am looking forward to starting this next chapter in my life!
