    Newbie here

welcome! my surgeon allowed me to eat during my pre-op diet. He put me on a high protein low carb diet. That meant no dairy except eggs and cheese, no veggies unless they were green and leafy. I could have all the protein I desired and my carbs had to be under 20 grams a day. I did it and lost 10 pounds before my surgery. I also had the sleeve and I am so grateful for it. Congrats on getting approved, it gets better from here!

    HELP!!! Losing my HAIR:(

My hair started thinning around month 3 or 4. Many people posted in the past that it stops falling out by month 8-10, but I'm almost a year out (Mayo Bandito also), and I'm still losing a bit more hair than normal. I've tried Biotin and increased Protein for periods of time, but it didn't seem to have an affect. The problem is that the thinning is somewhat noticeable now-- because I didn't have very thick hair to begin with! I'm losing weight, so that's a great thing, but I want my hair back!!! Anyone out there have it grow back to normal at some point?!

I hate not drinking while I eat.

i wil have to agree…..not drinking while eating is the hardest part of this whole journey. i guess it's because i really don't understand what the big deal about it is. i just had my sleeve done 3/10. i don't think i'm getting enough Water bc scales really aren't moving so much. i am certainly not eating too much. i don't know what the deal is. any advice?
  4. I have 1st appointment with the surgeon on 6/16/10 as well as the nutritionist, however, the psychologist they work with cannot see me until 7/7/10. I have Tricare Standard (North) and I'm wondering if the psych eval is required for approval. I'm hoping this won't delay my surgery! :frown:

Surgery date is so far away!

Wow, that is pretty far out. I'd go crazy. Is it possible to look for another surgeon or ask your current surgeon's office to notify you if they have any cancellations sooner than 9/1/10. Surgeries get cancelled all the time for various reasons, so there may be some chance there. Good luck!
  6. Sounds like gallbladder. 10 wks after my RNY surgery I had severe pain right under my breast and under my rib cage. I called my surgeon and they had me get a ultrasound ASAP. Turns out that I had gall stones and had to have my gallbladder removed... that was not fun. 2 major surgeries in 10 wks not my idea of fun !!! My doctor also had my on a prescription pill that prevented gall stones but I had gall stones prior to RNY.

    VITAMINS!!!???

I was told no gummies as well. I was also told chewable only as they are easiest to absorb. I take the bypass and sleeve optimized once per day by unjury. They cost $10 per month. I also use unjurys calcium citrate. I have glanced around the store here and they do seem to have decent prices as well. I like the fact that unjury contains no ingredients from China. Your team should give you direction and probably a list of what they prefer you to use. Lots of good choices out there
  8. i am getting a bit worried that i am starting to obsese over losing weight i dont think i am but i have been told by my mum and grandparents that i am and when people keep telling me that it starting to make me think that i am. in april it will be my first year being banded and i have lost 10 stone and still got a lot to go but i am very happy with what i have lost so far, to me most the time it dose not feel like i have got a band and i worry that i might slip back into old habbits has anyone else been though this and have and advise to give me
  9. Yeah I'm the same before surgery I'd wait till I was thirsty then whackndownba pint or two of Water or juice then I'd be ok for ages. I'm a big guy at 6ft4 (193cm) so I'm hoping my bougie that was used would be slightly bigger than someone who was sat 5ft 10 as once I've lost weight I will need to be able to eat 1500+ calories a day I'd like to think to maintain a healthy life style. hows your gas? Do you still get gas come up every time you take a sip? Mines a lot better than a few days ago I can actually take a few decent size sips without too much gas but once I have maybe 3oz or so of liquid the gas starts coming up and is quite painful still thanks :-) and well done!!!! How's your weight loss?
  10. I've been reading on here for a while and just got my surgery date today! Friday I go to my nutrition class. My mom is worried because she doesn't know why they haven't sent me to see a pyschologist. Has everyone had to do that?
  11. Best advice = ALWAYS underfill your sleeve. Weigh and/or measure your food. And when it's gone, it's gone, there is no need for seconds. My NUT said that on a scale of 1 (being like about to pass out from not eating i.e. being hungry) to 10 (being so full you are ready to burst) you should eat until you are about a 4. I think that is excellent advice. I'm 18 months post-op and still weigh and/or measure a lot of my food, just so I know what I'm eating vs. guessing or waiting until I feel full. Hope that helps.

    Lap Band With Plication

I had lb with plication on 8/10 and I can drink whatever amount too. I think it had definitely helped me.
  14. I truely feel for you as I recently went through that as well. I was starving by about three days postop. (My surgery was Nov. 19, 2009) During the 2 weeks on the liquid stage after surgery it was pretty tough as I felt so hungry constantly. My stomach was so loud with all the grumbling!! When the pureed stage came the hunger wasn't quite as bad and then was even better when I could eat solids. My surgeon does not put in any fill whatsoever when the band is put in so there is no restriction. I didn't get my first fill until about 6 weeks later. Hang in there. Thankfully it's a "not forever situation" and it will get better. You will feel it was so worth it once you get through this time in your journey and the pounds start coming off.

    1 lb away from 50!

I'm so excited! I am only 1 lb away from the 50-lb mark. I got my 2nd fill today and the surgeon said I was "right on track." I lost 30 lb before the surgery so "only" 19 since surgery on June 27, 2008, but I am happy that the scale is finally moving again. It was almost comical how it never budge from 269. I am staying home from the gym tonight but have been going religiously, which helps with the stress and mood. I am also doing well with "head hunger" since I started researching food addiction and admitted I have an addiction that is easily triggered by some foods. I have 1 good support group and just found another for eating disorders which I will attend next month. I see my family for the first time in 3 years later this month. I hope they can see a difference!!

    My First Fill

Congrats on your fill and results! I am nervous about my first one coming up, although I dont think I need one yet. My Dr. told me it was a snug fit and I think he was right, I cant eat even 1/2 yogurt without feel to full. I had surgey 10 days ago and have already lost 10 lbs, total of 20 since starting the preop diet. Im missing a few thousand calories! I hope I cont. to be successfull

    almost 4 weeks banded now

Well I am in band land now!! The sugery went really well except for the nausea at the hospital. I am going in for my first fill in 10 days so then I will really see if this thing works, because i can eat just as much as I did before, but with proper restriction, I will hopefully lose weight. I lost 20 lbs...then gained 5 back, so hopefully I will never be above 230 ever again!!! Yaaaayy!!

    A Beef about my Surgeon

Unfortunately, I think this is more common than not. And unfortunately seems to be the case for many different types of surgeons. They hire PA's to handle the follow-ups so they are freed up to do more surgeries. I don't like it either and has been the reason I have changed surgeons (not bariatric) more than once. I really like my surgeon but she is in a small office and still I have only seen her twice since surgery 10 months ago and that was because I had a complication early on. Just wanted you to know you are not alone... Unfortunately, I think this is more common than not. And unfortunately seems to be the case for many different types of surgeons. what to tell people at work

I actually told almost everyone at work (about 10) individually that I was having the surgery. This was after I had a date set and was getting ready to be off. They were all thinking I was preggo because of all of my "dr appointments". LOL. So, I handled each peron directly so that if they had any questions they new I was there to answer them. Also, if I told everyone myself, I didnt have to worry about others telling. I know that this kind of thing just gets out so I started it myself. ONe funny thing: The monday after I came back to work there was a huge article agains bypass surgery on the front page of the newspaper :w00t: so, everyone was like, did you read? But, everyone is very supportive and it is nice to have people constantly telling me I am doing good
  22. I have decided that I want to have RYN bypass and I have set up an appointment for my free seminar 01/08. I have my primary physician behind me a 110%. I just want to know what all else you have to go through before you get your surgery date?

    Shoe Sizes Post Op

I lost a half size after WLS. It took about 6 months to get there. I was a 10 1/2 in high school, but when I put on the weight, my feet would swell - on and off - and I had to buy size 11's.
