  1. The bands by themselves on a normal stomach don't work well and tend to be complications in escrow - they go in easily and with minimal complications, but the complications (typically slippage and/or erosion) pile up over time. I haven't seen much about such complications with the BOB (band over bypass) but the overall success rate is fairly poor; likewise with the various stoma tightening procedures. Here is one bariatric surgeon's perspective on the value of various revisions: Check some of this other doc's videos on addressing regain problems - his solution may or may not be something that works for you, but it is something to think about and see if you can craft another approach that is to your liking. Your hunger is not likely to be much affected by the band, as there are no hormonal changes being made to address that issue. There may be some dietary tricks that can be done to reduce hunger (going back to the classic "protein first" bariatric diet is a start.) Have you seen an RD (registered dietician) to see what can be done on that front? That should be a first step before going into a revision. Another surgeon's perspective is that with a BOB, you are taking a failed surgery (your original RNY) and applying a high failure rate device (the band) and expecting great results - disappointment is the most likely result. Sorry.
  2. I'm having a bypass revision (5 yrs of reflux with my sleeve. I'm so ready to sleep all nite without choking on stomach acid) on Aug 9th. I'm looking for some protein powder recommendations. I will probly shop on Amazon, but can go into a brick and mortar if need be. I liked Syntrax Nectar Cappucino flavor when I had my sleeve and am thinking about using it again but it's gone way up in price ($40 for a 2lb tub) and Syntrax Medical has unlfav powder for $20 for a 1lb tub. Also thinking about getting a tub of Chike (protein iced coffee powder). It's going to cause $74 for all 3, and thats not including the Premier clear protein that I'm going to get at Sams for about $24 a case Am I overdoing the protein thing? And what did u drink that first few weeks? Was it good (I think Syntrax is darn good, just not sure its worth the $)? How much did u pay and where'd u get it? Thanks for the input! Marci
  3. I am at the lower end now. I too am getting a revision from the band to the sleeve. I am tired of the up and down both physically and mentally. I do not want to gain the weight I have lost back. I also don't want to continue with the yo yo dieting. I understand you completely; before I got the band I was up and down 40 pounds. I am not sure how quickly we will loose due to the lower BMI, I just know I am ready. I wish you well; my surgery is August 17, 2018.

    Pre-op diet starts tomorrow!

My experience was fantastic. My post surgery pain was only due to a previous back injury and the way I was positioned during surgery. Had I thought to mention it prior, I would not have had any pain at all. No other surgery related pain. I was up and walking immediately, doing as many laps as they’d allow. Mine was a band to sleeve revision. My BMI was 30 on the day of surgery so I know things may have been a bit easier for me. Post op was a breeze. Just over two months out, I’m eating just about anything but I follow the protein first route (and never get beyond that because I’m full immediately)! I take Juice Plus capsules, my supplements and my primary says I’m fit as can be! I know you’re nervous. It’s natural. But this is a wonderful experience. Take it as it comes and don’t worry about what hasn’t yet happened and “scary stories” you’ve heard. Enjoy every day as it comes. You are doing something amazing for yourself!
  5. I think you’re looking for me! 😀 I had my lap band revision in May. My BMI was 30. No one understood why, if I could lose 30-40 pounds in a couple of months anytime I wanted to, I’d ever need to have a sleeve after I got my broken band removed. I didn’t bother explaining it was because it was terrified my life would continue to be me losing 30 pounds, gaining 40, losing 50, gaining 55, losing...gaining...you know the drill. My band was bad for over a decade so the gaining/losing game was all me. The wear and tear...it was enough. If you are young and you think this is for you, do it while your BMI is low and your skin can bounce back. I’m 53 and my skin has had it with me. I was once over a hundred pounds heavier than I am now and it shows on my inner thighs and on my arms. If you’re not so young and it’s what your heart wants...go for it. The heck with everything else! I was treated wonderfully. The surgery was simple for me. No pain. I was right on my feet. I didn’t require help for much. They treated me like gold and one of the overnight staff cut a star out of gold felt and taped it to my gown for being so laid back and independent on a night when 1/3 of staff called out of work! (So I sure wasn’t discriminated against because of my smaller size!) You can ask me anything along you surgery path. I’m an open book. 🙂😉
  6. So to day 7-23-18 I my sleeve revised to a gastric bypass today. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I thought it was going be painful which it's not, I miss walking and all I want it chicken broth lol Question Did anyone have a drains in them?If so was Was a painful to get them removed? And how long were you in the hospital for? Sorry I'm new to all this Sydney Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Unfortunately my story is rather unique.. I had to have a “revision” surgery and Gallbladder removal after falling ill almost 4 weeks out of my original GB surgery in June . After the second surgery I was given a JP drain for the first time. As of now it’s been removed but there are days where i still wake up in pain similar to the pain i was having WITH the drain. Now i understand how gravity works and how sometimes depending on the way that you move can cause you pain in that area in which you had surgery .. after all it’s only been a little over a week. However, sometimes i just wonder has anyone else experienced this pain ... if so how was it for you and how did you deal with said pain. The pain that I’m having in a way feels like someone is physically stabbing me in my incision . It is literally the most uncomfortable feeling ever . Please if anyone can give me pointers , or let me know how things were for them after their drain removal that would be great . Thnx ❤️

    Drs on Mex

Hi! Would love to hear about your experience with Dr. S when you're up for it! I'm in the planning phase for LBL, inner TL, revising old arm lift (fingers crossed it can be done!), possible BL with new implants, and possibly UBL later on.

    Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017

Hi Mama - me too! I have been gaining and losing the same 2lbs over and over again for around the past five weeks I was 4lbs off my original target at the last visit to my nutritionist about 6 weeks ago. He revised my target down the way by another 16lbs. Psychologically I felt a bit deflated after that, but boy am I getting frustrated with this lose/ gain cycle! Am generally more active and running 3 days a week! All in all a bit disheartened now!

    Actual time off work

When I had my sleeve I took off 6 weeks. I felt like I needed it, recovery was harsh for some reason when I had my revision to RNY, I took off for 3 weeks. Recovery was much easier. I work in healthcare and up on my feet handling patients for 8+ hours a day and I did go back with an aide for some help at work until I was 6 weeks post op
  12. My surgery is July 23rd, which is in 2 days!! My Pre Op diet for 7 days was : 1 Premier Shake for Breakfast and Lunch. 1 Dinner meal. 4-6 ozs of lean meat, not fried, steamed or raw veggies. Broccoli, brussel sprouts, green beans. Last 3 days is 3 protein shakes. I am also able to have chicken broth, sf jello, and sf popsicles. That's it. Water or add Crystal Light packet. I am barely making it 10 days! I don't think I would last 4 weeks!! Power to you! I agree on the fact that you need to talk to your Surgeon or their Assistant in helping you revise your Pre Op diet!! It is so crucial!!

    Band removal after 10 years

There's a TON of people on the site who are revisions from band to sleeve or RNY. Give it a quick search. I believe Even the site's creator is making the switch. They all appear to be MUCH HAPPIER. safe journey VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167

    Protein Problems

Hi MissLindsey, I really enjoy the plant based pea protein from Arbonne, both the chocolate and vanilla. They also have unflavored which can be mixed into other liquids...I particularly like adding it to broth. It is maybe a little more expensive than other products, but it's the best tasting protein powder I've ever had. http://www.arbonne.com/Pws/homeoffice/store/AMUS/catalog/Nutrition,272.aspx?itemsperpage=24 Also, I only just ordered the sample variety pack of single-serving Syntex Nectar protein powder and I was amazed at how good the "non-creamy" fruit flavors are. It mixes easily and achieves the consistency of water or crystal lite. Only six grams of protein per serving, but could at least be a boost to what you're already taking in. Of course, everyone's different and tastes change. I got the lapband in 2009 and anything from Isopure made me gag. I'm revising to RNY next week and have been testing out a variety of protein shakes/powders/mixes in advance so I don't end up with a cupboard full of stuff I can't stomach!
  15. And now you are assuming because I'm male I don't have emotions? That I wasn't scared as hell going into things? that I didn't have some crazy depression because the rest of my family can eat all the foods I wish I could? That's I'm not effected by hunger? Seriously. The emotions you speak of... are not specific to one sex. I don't know of anyone that was given a pre-op diet that was informed as to how hard it would be... They didn't tell us before my lap-band back in 2011... they didn't tell use this time around when I was revised from Band to Bypass. I'm going bow out of this... I provided you with sound advice. It's up to you want you want to do with it. Good luck.
  16. I have seen post about people revising to bypass because of GERD and other issues. My surgeon only preforms the sleeve. He does 3-5 surgeries a day, 6 days a week and has been doing it since 2006. I have acid reflux from time to time (very minor) and so my biggest concern was having to eventually revise to bypass. After talking to my surgeon and his staff, he can count on one hand out of the thousands he has operated on, how many have had a revision. He actually stated that because of the new diet plan, many people who have GERD actually see it go away. The sleeve is actually not that new. While doing some research, the bypass used to actually be done in steps. The surgeon would go in and do a sleeve, then once that healed, would do the bypass. Once people started seeing great results with just the sleeve, it continued to gain popularity. A lot of people choose bypass because they want to loose a lot, fast. Even though I am overweight, I don’t have any health issues yet. I am young (28) and don’t have to loose all my weight at once. The sleeve might make me loose slower than the bypass, but will also allow my body to struggle less to keep up. If you read success stories, you will find many who have had the sleeve have done just as well, if not better than the bypass. Best of luck in which ever option you choose.

    Giving up protein shakes

RNY for me. Revision from a gastric band that had turned rogue! So at surgery was at 230lbs - down from my 260 at band surgery 9 years ago, but up from my 180ish post-band weight. i took three months to find a protein shake recipe I can stomach. Hate the protein taste in whey, and pea is even worse. My ‘forever breakfast’ shake has a shot of coffee, 50/50 vanilla and plain unsweetened whey protein, a dash of milk and 7 ice cubes blended into a slushy. In the weekend, I leave out the coffee and add a few berries for variety....
  18. I took a full 2 months for both surgeries. The Band back in 2011 because I was driving upwards of 4 hours 1 way to work. And I didn't want any issues. For my Revision to bypass this past March, I took 2 months because I have to do a lot of lifting things, crouching and crawling under desks etc, and I wanted to make sure I had enough time to get into the full foods stage and have the time to figure out what foods would be ok and what wouldn't work. I'm glad I did, I would have hated being at work and getting a dumping event.
  19. I'm in RI as well, there are a few of us and a bunch from MA. I had the band installed in 2011 and was just recently revised to the Bypass in March.

    First step in the process

Sounds just like my revision. My band had a lot of that, but didn't need the diet. The revision to the band had all that junk as well required. Totally normal. Just make your appointments, follow your instructions as you get them and keep in mind, this whole process sucks for a while, both before and after surgery. But, it DOES get better and it is very much worth it.

    Surgery time

Both my band and revision to bypass were the first up. I don't see it as a problem because the staff has already been at work for a while prepping so it's not like you are going to get some bed headed nursing staff / surgeons strolling in without having their coffee yet to open you up and hope things go smoothly. They take it seriously, I wouldn't worry about it at all.
  22. I am 2 yrs out and I firmly believe the all the diet soda I was drinking stretched my sleeve. I will find out by how much the 27th when I go for my floroscopy for my revision to RNY. Lesson learned. Sent from my SM-G900T using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Excited but nervous! I will be having a revision from the sleeve to the Loop/SIPS. My surgeon will be removing my gall bladder, fixing my hernia and then doing the Loop DS. Has anyone had all 3 of these done together? It just seems like so much! Thanks! 😊
