    Unsupportive mother :(

GOOD LUCK on your surgery!!!!!! I imagine you are pretty anxious! I have nearly a year (gotta save up the $$) and I already can't wait lol. I will get my pre-op info hopefully Monday so then I will have a better idea of what is to come! Then I have 10 months to obsess about it lol. You just a a month or 2 though and your whole life is gonna change for the better

    Unsupportive mother :(

I will only say that mothers always worry about their babies no matter what!! Mom was afraid for me to have WLS both times--I considered both surgeries lifesaving. The first surgery was gastric bypass 10 yrs ago that began failing me about 5 years ago. It took all this time to get OKd for revision to sleeve. I just think you need to be headstrong in doing surgery for YOU and YOUR HEALTH. Then once you have surgery, education about your new lifestyle, nutritional needs, etc. is in order--be the proof in the pudding for them and their doubts. If they see your efforts openly, my guess is they will be grumbling under their breath, "Why didn't I believe her???" Fear and doubt does strange things to people--typically those we are closest to--namely, our moms!! Good luck with everything, and I will be praying for good things happening with your surgery and your family. :DRonda

    Unsupportive mother :(

You have to keep in mind that you have to do what is best for you and this surgery is NOT for anyone else but YOU!! I told nobody but my husband and I am glad I didn't!! Still haven't at 10 weeks out! Do what is best for you and nobody else! Kelly
  4. I had my lap band done on 12/26/07. I have a total of 5 holes in which the only one that has not healed shut is the one over top of my port area. The surgeon put me on something for infection for a week, then amoxicillin for another week, and now I am on Bactrim after going to see her again yesterday. At first I had my incision covered because it would leak and ooze all over my clothes. Then my surgeon told me to wear an old t-shirt around the house so that the air can get to it. It started to heal but as soon as I make one small movement, it opens up again. I asked the surgeon if this had happened to anyone else and she said, "Only two other people". She also noted that she didn't want to have to go back in and move my port. It's currently located right above my belly button and to the right. However, I have a 2nd port for my morphine pump that is located parallel to the Lap Band port. I went to have my pump refilled yesterday as well and it wasn't very pleasant. My first fill is scheduled for Feb. 19 and the surgeon told me that if we can't get the port area to heal, I will have to cancel my fill. I've waited so long just to have the Lap Band put in. Don’t get me wrong, I love my surgeon because she is upfront with you and has an excellent bed-side manner. She took my Gallbladder out in Sept. 2007, however about 10 days later I began to run a fever and we found out that an Abscess had grown where the Gallbladder used to be. So a lot of this could be my body reacting because I have a systemic disease called RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy). I was just curious if anyone else had problems with their port incision healing. Regards, Marie

  7. @Cynisca, thank you for your honest opinion. I have always been a person that dots all my i's and cross my t's. I obtained one of the best bariatric surgeons in the state. He did an endoscopy and a barium test on me. The test came back and showed what I knew in my heart all along, there was way too much stomach left. So this doctor was not only rude, he failed to do my surgery correctly. Even though I feel this is an open and shut case of malpractice, all I want is my surgery done over and for my insurance company and the big group of doctors he works with to know what he did. My insurance plan did not cover revision surgery, but through God's grace, they approved me for revision. Now I'm in talks with the hospital. I told them I shouldn't have to pay another penny out of pocket for something one of their doctors didn't do right. The doctor I'm with now recently became apart of this group of doctors with my old surgeon. I prayed about it and asked him could he be fair with me and truthful about what his colleague did or didn't do. So far I have been very pleased with him. My revision surgery is January 21, 2019.

    Clothing for Hospital

I brought a robe so that I could take walks without mooning everyone on the ward. I also brought a toothbrush and toothpaste, 1 pair of pajamas (because I get so cold and knew the hospital Johnny would not be adequate warmth) I brought a Super soft fluffy blanket, phone and charger, chapstick because my lips always get so dry, hairbrush and pony tail things, 2 clean pairs of panties, and slippers with actual rubber soles. I wore the same pants home but brought a clean blouse because I didn't want any cooties close to my incisions from previously worn clothing. Even if I did only wear it for 2 hours on the way to the hospital. My hubby had a nice new bottle of water for me for the ride home. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Mexico Surgery

Yes I had two drains and I wished I wouldn't have stayed down there so long with hopes of having my drains removed. I thought I was going to have them removed in 10 days but one was two weeks and the other 3 weeks. It really wasn't that bad other than the thigh lipo which I would never do again nor recommend. That was the most painful not the incision. I had a LBL with the thigh lipo and the LBL was easy compared to the lipo. I am getting ready to have a breast lift next year and possibly a thigh lift we shall see haven't made my mind up on that one yet.
  10. Soup gets my tummy talking too! I thought it may be that I am swallowing air along with the soup. The constant gurgling has for the most part subsided though. I was sleeved 12/19/12

    Newbie here

welcome! my surgeon allowed me to eat during my pre-op diet. He put me on a high protein low carb diet. That meant no dairy except eggs and cheese, no veggies unless they were green and leafy. I could have all the protein I desired and my carbs had to be under 20 grams a day. I did it and lost 10 pounds before my surgery. I also had the sleeve and I am so grateful for it. Congrats on getting approved, it gets better from here!

    HELP!!! Losing my HAIR:(

My hair started thinning around month 3 or 4. Many people posted in the past that it stops falling out by month 8-10, but I'm almost a year out (Mayo Bandito also), and I'm still losing a bit more hair than normal. I've tried Biotin and increased Protein for periods of time, but it didn't seem to have an affect. The problem is that the thinning is somewhat noticeable now-- because I didn't have very thick hair to begin with! I'm losing weight, so that's a great thing, but I want my hair back!!! Anyone out there have it grow back to normal at some point?!

I hate not drinking while I eat.

i wil have to agree…..not drinking while eating is the hardest part of this whole journey. i guess it's because i really don't understand what the big deal about it is. i just had my sleeve done 3/10. i don't think i'm getting enough Water bc scales really aren't moving so much. i am certainly not eating too much. i don't know what the deal is. any advice?
  14. I have 1st appointment with the surgeon on 6/16/10 as well as the nutritionist, however, the psychologist they work with cannot see me until 7/7/10. I have Tricare Standard (North) and I'm wondering if the psych eval is required for approval. I'm hoping this won't delay my surgery! :frown:

Surgery date is so far away!

Wow, that is pretty far out. I'd go crazy. Is it possible to look for another surgeon or ask your current surgeon's office to notify you if they have any cancellations sooner than 9/1/10. Surgeries get cancelled all the time for various reasons, so there may be some chance there. Good luck!
  16. Sounds like gallbladder. 10 wks after my RNY surgery I had severe pain right under my breast and under my rib cage. I called my surgeon and they had me get a ultrasound ASAP. Turns out that I had gall stones and had to have my gallbladder removed... that was not fun. 2 major surgeries in 10 wks not my idea of fun !!! My doctor also had my on a prescription pill that prevented gall stones but I had gall stones prior to RNY.

    VITAMINS!!!???

I was told no gummies as well. I was also told chewable only as they are easiest to absorb. I take the bypass and sleeve optimized once per day by unjury. They cost $10 per month. I also use unjurys calcium citrate. I have glanced around the store here and they do seem to have decent prices as well. I like the fact that unjury contains no ingredients from China. Your team should give you direction and probably a list of what they prefer you to use. Lots of good choices out there
  18. i am getting a bit worried that i am starting to obsese over losing weight i dont think i am but i have been told by my mum and grandparents that i am and when people keep telling me that it starting to make me think that i am. in april it will be my first year being banded and i have lost 10 stone and still got a lot to go but i am very happy with what i have lost so far, to me most the time it dose not feel like i have got a band and i worry that i might slip back into old habbits has anyone else been though this and have and advise to give me
  19. Yeah I'm the same before surgery I'd wait till I was thirsty then whackndownba pint or two of Water or juice then I'd be ok for ages. I'm a big guy at 6ft4 (193cm) so I'm hoping my bougie that was used would be slightly bigger than someone who was sat 5ft 10 as once I've lost weight I will need to be able to eat 1500+ calories a day I'd like to think to maintain a healthy life style. hows your gas? Do you still get gas come up every time you take a sip? Mines a lot better than a few days ago I can actually take a few decent size sips without too much gas but once I have maybe 3oz or so of liquid the gas starts coming up and is quite painful still thanks :-) and well done!!!! How's your weight loss?
  20. I've been reading on here for a while and just got my surgery date today! Friday I go to my nutrition class. My mom is worried because she doesn't know why they haven't sent me to see a pyschologist. Has everyone had to do that?
  21. Best advice = ALWAYS underfill your sleeve. Weigh and/or measure your food. And when it's gone, it's gone, there is no need for seconds. My NUT said that on a scale of 1 (being like about to pass out from not eating i.e. being hungry) to 10 (being so full you are ready to burst) you should eat until you are about a 4. I think that is excellent advice. I'm 18 months post-op and still weigh and/or measure a lot of my food, just so I know what I'm eating vs. guessing or waiting until I feel full. Hope that helps.

    Lap Band With Plication

I had lb with plication on 8/10 and I can drink whatever amount too. I think it had definitely helped me.
  24. I truely feel for you as I recently went through that as well. I was starving by about three days postop. (My surgery was Nov. 19, 2009) During the 2 weeks on the liquid stage after surgery it was pretty tough as I felt so hungry constantly. My stomach was so loud with all the grumbling!! When the pureed stage came the hunger wasn't quite as bad and then was even better when I could eat solids. My surgeon does not put in any fill whatsoever when the band is put in so there is no restriction. I didn't get my first fill until about 6 weeks later. Hang in there. Thankfully it's a "not forever situation" and it will get better. You will feel it was so worth it once you get through this time in your journey and the pounds start coming off.

    1 lb away from 50!

I'm so excited! I am only 1 lb away from the 50-lb mark. I got my 2nd fill today and the surgeon said I was "right on track." I lost 30 lb before the surgery so "only" 19 since surgery on June 27, 2008, but I am happy that the scale is finally moving again. It was almost comical how it never budge from 269. I am staying home from the gym tonight but have been going religiously, which helps with the stress and mood. I am also doing well with "head hunger" since I started researching food addiction and admitted I have an addiction that is easily triggered by some foods. I have 1 good support group and just found another for eating disorders which I will attend next month. I see my family for the first time in 3 years later this month. I hope they can see a difference!!
