What surgery did you have? VSG When did you have surgery? Aug 11 How much weight loss? 30lbs on pre-op diet. Favorite Protein food? Still on Clear liquids ???????? Hardest food to eat? Takes a long time to get my liquids down . Biggest NSV (non-scale victory) so far? My knees already feel better. One interesting fact about yourself? I have a full time job.. Work two part time jobs, and volunteer with FUMC youth on Wednesday nights. -

I am 16 months out and down 140 lbs. I went from 334 to 194 and LOVE IT! It has been brought to my attention that I no longer look like the woman I used to be. Some say I look younger, others say it looks like it could be my sister but definitely not me.. I love it! I feel like a different person too. There are so many things I can do that I never did before (as I sit with my knees to my chest on the couch comfortably while typing this... ummm can you say MAJOR NSV?????) I would like to lose another 10 lbs or so but I am totally happy where I am now. Feel free to share your face to face pictures below!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Mel, One of the best suggestions my friends gave me was to slow down when you're trying to jog for longer. After a few times at a certain speed, I can typically speed up a little, even if for only a few minutes. I think I have to be more vigilant about what I'm eating, not just calories and protein. I haven't had any issues with getting food down lately, so it's kinda been "open season" if you know what I mean......because I haven't had any problems with tolerating food, I've been good about eating salads and eating more veggies, but it makes it easier to eat brownies, french fries, and crap I wouldn't normally eat. I bought 2 containers of Unjury and they should be here tomorrow. I've also decided to start walking on my "days off" from running. In a huge NSV for me, I walked 2.5 miles yesterday at a 4.0 WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT!!! Ok, I typically look like I've gone swimming in my clothes when I workout. It felt really good to know my body is finally in good condition. Now I just need to go shopping for some headphones. I accidentally left mine in the gym the other night and someone kept them. Jerk. So it's been quiet for me, but a good time to think.... Keep up the great work! -
Hey Juli! Awesome NSV!!! ::eek: Janine! I try to stay away from the "soft foods" Mostly because I want to get my Protein in!

I am 38. I have been married to my best friend for 13 years, have 3 daughters (11,9,6) and live on a small ranch in rural Texas. I am a teacher, writer, and love to read. I have a brother that's 18 months younger than me that has both Down's Syndrome and Autism, and we are very close - he is in my home daily. I live near my parents (my brother lives with them) and have pet fish, a snake, a rat, 3 dogs, 3 cats, chickens and cattle. I have always seen myself as "athletic" - and the outside of me is starting to catch up to the mental image I have! I love camping, hiking, and anything with water. I have been to the Bahamas twice - and can't wait to go back! I love the beach and the Frio River. I love to fish - fresh or salt water. I love to cook - especially the game my husband brings home. I would love to completely live of the land.... I am loud, opinionated, and extremely loyal. I have always viewed myself as more than my weight - and even after just 5 moths post surgery, do not define myself by that number on the scale. I LOVE the NSVs associated with my healtheir self though....and have a bucket list of sorts I am checking off.... Next Saturday - I am back on a horse....

Big NSV I've gone from barely fitting a 3x to fitting into a 1x. It's like a whole clothing world is opening up. I shop at stores like Burlington and Ross and I feel like the plus size selection is sparse for 2X and up. It's also kind of bittersweet. I'm getting off all of this weight that I've gained since having 2 kids and I'm learning that my body composition is.... Different. The biggest part of my body has always been my butt and thighs. My stomach is now the largest area. I'm still thrilled with the changes! Just learning to dress a new body type! Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Tapshoes, thanks so much for your encouragement, you're always so upbeat, and I just want you to know I really appreciate it! I thought I was going to be really sore after that long jog, but I took a nice hot bath that night, and it really seemed to relax and help. (Small NSV - I usually take showers, so it's been awhile since I've had a nice hot bubble bath. I just have to say how nice it is to have my body AND the bath Water both fit in the tub!) ShinyHappymommy, I'm so jealous you can run outside! I'm like tapshoes, I gotta wait until April or May. Although I still can't run - I tried it on my treadmill, I get out of breath and don't last long. Maybe one day, I'm working on it. Yesterday I only got 2 miles in on my treadmill . . . just a tiresome day, but I do try and get a little something in everyday. Writing things out here has been like a journal of sorts for me, it keeps me going! Keep up the GREAT work all, and thanks for all your inspiration!

Thanks for the feed back. I find if I eat slower and talk more then I eat less. That's pretty hard for me being the introvert, but I find if I eat with someone at lunch instead of at my desk, I slow down a lot more and tend to sort of play and pick at my food instead of eating, so net I eat the smaller amount. First fill is scheduled for April 4th, then I go back every two weeks until mid May while my Dr. is trying to get the band to the right place. I have the larger band and he said it takes a little more adjusting to get the restriction to the right place where he wants it. On a completly different note I had a NSV already that almost had me doing cartwheels this morning. I know it sounds lame but big to me. I was acutally able to buy clothes at Wal-mart and they fit. It was the largest size they carry, 3X mens, but none the less it fits. It has bugged me for years to not be able to buy what I call yard clothes or play clothes like tee shirst and stuff from discount stores like Wallyworld and such. Just seems so unfair I have to go to a speciality store to buy a tee-shirt to mow the yard in. So anyway, it was a huge victory for me this morning!

It was either let you keep them or her burning them. Congratulations on this funny NSV and your hard work.

How about some NSVs!?!?
nieuwevis replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally understand this...... I know in my head that I have lost almost 100 pound from the start but I do t really see it Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App yall, this is exactly my nsv, too. so, i was snuggling with my hubby, and i lying on top (don't worry, we're clothed, this is totally safe for work lol), and i said "why is this so uncomfortable?" it turns out that i was still holding myself up as if i was trying not to bear all my weight on him. i've lost 125 lbs, and my body still felt the need to prevent itself from crushing my partner LOL. my mind was truly blown at just how mental this world is, you know what i mean? ahh, this journey is so fun. -

On Thursday I had a regular scheduled doctors appointment. They weighed me but I don't believe their scale cause it's not the surgeons office. Anyway, then they took my blood pressure and oxygen saturation level. It wasn't until after they were done that I realized they used a "regular sized" blood pressure cuff on my arm. That's my first of what I'm sure will be many nsv's. Lol -

quote=insubordination;571722]

Huge NSV for me. I was so worried about this. I stand by my choice of aisle. Awesome! I wouldn't have tried the tray table either! I look forward to the day I don't have to ask for the extender. I am tired of being embarassed! By the way, what does NSV stand for? April: I have to start my pre-op diet tomorrow. It is low calorie and virtually no carbs. I also have to cut my meal portions in half. I am relieved that it is not a liquid diet! I have done Atkins before so I am familiar with low carb. I was wondering about cheating too but I am going to try my damndest to stay on track. I don't want my doctor to say my liver is too fatty to do the surgery. I am waiting to find out if my insurance will approve in the meantime which doesn't help my stress level. Usually stress makes me eat more not less lol. But I am going to keep coming to these boards and getting the encouragement I need. I count myself very lucky because I don't have to go liquids only! Good luck and know that I am in the same boat with you. Keep posting and we will encourage each other! *Trisha* -

This is inspiring to me as it is not all about the scale victories! I’m 12 weeks out today and haven’t had many Non Scale Victories (NSV’s) yet! One big one was last week and I didn’t need a seat belt extension on one leg of the flight! My 5x clothes are starting to get loose on me which is a good thing. I wanted to post here so when I start chalking up all my NSV’s I remember how far I have come. At this time I still use beach towels, wear a size 30 but can get into my 28’s now. I usually sit while I’m in the shower, still don’t sit in a booth and chairs with arms at restaurants make me nervous. I can’t get down the airplane isle without bumping into people on each side. It doesn’t help to turn sideways either as I’m wide both ways. I still pull myself up the banister to get up the stairs. I can’t really shop or go site seeing as I get winded too easily. I have to lean on my shopping cart to get around the store. Okay, this is sounding like a laundry list of why I had the surgery and it is. I’ve noticed all of the posts on here about those that have crossed these hurdles and had major NSV’s! Bring it on! -

My nsv happened Saturday. I just got a cute new hair cute and had to go get cash due to the system being down at the salon. I went to 7-11 and was leaving the store when on of my friends walked right past me as if she didn't know me. I slapped her on her butt and she turned around having a look of shock on her face that was priceless! It took her a second to realize it was me. She had no words! It was pretty funny and made my day! -

I'm not sure if this is a NSV but it was surprising. I usually put my hair bands around my wrist so I would have it handy. When I was overweight I would have to take it off shortly after putting it on because it would start squeezing my wrist. Today I realized I could keep it on all day but also when I pulled up my long sleeve shirt my hair band pulled up to my upper arm and I didn't realize it until I was looking for it to put in my hair. I guess my upper arm has gotten quite a bit smaller. -

I assume you are talking post op. But either way, I got mine the first few months post op with Premiere Protein drinks from Wal-Mart. They are 11 oz and have 30 gr of protein. Two of those get you the minimum. Also early on Isopure Protein waters from GNC were a lifesaver for me during the all liquid stage. Some people don't like the flavor but personally I enjoyed them. Especially over ice. They come in several different flavors and taste like kool-aid. If you mean pre-op or after the liquid phase, I eat lots of rotisserie chicken or grilled chicken. My favorite yogurt is Danon Lite & Fit with 12 gr of protein per serving. Also the chocolate on top flavors really satisfy my desert cravings when I have them. Grilled or baked fish is great also. Just be sure the package says "wild caught" and not farm raised. My other option for extra protein is in the deli section or your store. They are the Oscar Mayer P3 protein packs. They have nuts, cheese and deli meats. A great snack and each package has 11 or 12 grams of protein My NSV... I got to shop on the right side of Catos last week!! Some super cute stuff -

Daisee68 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I packed up a lot of clothes and shoes in my closet yesterday to donate. I am only 17 days post op and while some of it was too big (lost some before surgery), some of it was just old stuff that I didn't need to hang on it anymore. I require tall plus size pants which are hard to find, so getting rid of almost all my tall dress pants (which is all I wear to work) was very overwhelming. I did it and don't plan to ever look back. I'll have tall pants tailor made if I have to! Meanwhile, my actual NSV is that suddenly my stomach has gone down enough that I can bend over and buckle shoes that have a strap around the ankle! I love these shoes but avoided wearing them because it was so hard to twist and get my belly out of the way so I could fasten them. I just wore a lot of slip on / mule type shoes. Can't wait to wear all these shoes now! -

Here is a big NSV for me, my little garden. I'm going to eat healthy and grow some of what I eat. I don't think I would have ever had the energy or motivation to do this last year. It's small, but I tilled it all by hand so it was a lot of work. I'm not done with it yet, but I've so happy with what I've got done so far.
