December Bandwagon Supporters
sheky17g replied to NaNcyNiCoLe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I understand it an NSV is a non-scale victory. Things like getting a "hey you look great!" from a co-worker or simply fitting into clothes from years gone by. -

I had a rough weekend, followed by a NSV. So, I thought I'd share. In terms of roughness I am struggling a little with boundaries regarding the mushies phase of the diet. I probably ate something that were pushing it in terms of nutritional value. I chewed them pretty thoroughly 25-30 times a bite, but I knew they were things I shouldn't be eating yet or at all and still did. On the whole did I do myself any major harm in what I did? Probably not. Although it didn't feel great and although it wasn't a stuck food episode, my band definitely told me "hey! stop that! you can't eat like that!" I didn't eat a huge amount or really even stuff my face like I might have done in the past. My only real regret is that I should be more careful right now because I am healing still. And I don't want to strech my pouch or do anything that could cause me harm or affect my longterm success. My NSV is a nice one. I woke up this morning and had forgotten to put in a wash last night. So, I thought I'd check my closet for old clothes that might fit now. I grabbed a pair of pants that I haven't worn for almost 10 years. They fit! I ironed them and put them on, confirming that I have lost 4 inches off my waist and although I am not yet in my 40's.....my pant size is. That's a race I thought I would lose. I'm getting closer to being able to once again walk into a regular store and buy clothing. I haven't been able to do that in years. -

now that i know what everyone means by nsv, lol, i finally reached one! i have a pair of jeans (just 1) that i could barely fit in, would have to lay down to zip up. now, i can just pull them down cuz their so big, lol.... also, the wheel doesn't rub my belly while driving, i think that is the best part....

Just when I didn't think my energy levels could get any lower, today was a true test. I had to stay up all night finishing a paper, and I was going to go to sleep sometime around 11AM. However, my mom and extended family wanted to drag me out shopping. I was in such a foul mood my mom told me to stay home, and I almost did, but then she felt bad and made me go. Needless to say, walking around with no sleep, protein, sugars, carbs in my body made me feel so physically and mentally exhausted I wanted to cry. The mall was crowded and I couldn't stand all the people around. (Normally I'm such a social person and don't mind at all). But today, everything was pushing my buttons. We also went to Costco. MAN, THAT WAS SO DIFFICULT. If any of you know about Costco, Sam's or BJ's, they offer free samples of their food products. Well, almost every isle had something. Cheesecake, crackers, spreads, mozzarella sticks, pizza, cookies, candy. I wanted to scream right in the middle of the store. But I didn't have a single bite of anything and I felt at least a little proud of myself. I think I caught this one guy staring at me as I was eyeballing my grandmother so hard for eating a lovely piece of candy. I felt like he was thinking "Why isn't this fat girl eating all of the samples?" But oh well. LIQUIDS ARE KILLING ME. I picked up some light muscle milk (said not made with milk) and some lactaid milk as well in case I am lactose intolerant. I also have to buy lactaid pills, just in case. However, I hope I can definitely stand milk. I kind of had a NSV today. When I was at the mall I was looking for a holiday outfit. I still bought a dress in a 22, but I probably could've got it in a 20. However, I did try on this lace party dress in a 20, and holy cow, IT FIT! I haven't tried on jeans because they're uncomfortable, but maybe 16 pound weightloss did help me get down to a 20. It's been since high school that I've been in a 20. I've been a 22 for the last 4 years. When I reach a 14, I feel like the world's fashion doors will open to me. Oh, when I came home, I slept for 10 hours o.O Can't say I didn't need it! xx

Dissappointed by surgeon's goal
Ballermom replied to erp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Surgeon goal was low. He set a goal of 180 lbs. I started at 265lbs. I want to get to 140lbs. But I'm not gonna worry. I'm gonna focus. Getting healthy and learning how to eat with stages of diet in the beginning. Being grateful to gain strength with any weight loss and happy to reach NSV (non scale victories). in other words Enjoying the whole ride. Later I'll add my own goal. -

OK … entering into 'Onderland' would not be a NSV … so my new #1 is when I can say my size 16s are easy to just slip on and off without unbuttoning them … from there that'll change to 14s … then to 12s … and then … hmmmm … I don't know! I have never been under a 12 in my adult life! -

Being able to sit comfortably in airplane seats. Being able to walk/trot without hiding my heavy breathing. Having more room in my car. (Downsized from van to a sexy equinox but have limited room). There are othrrs but my Token NSV (non scale victory) will be being able to fit what once was my favorite winter skirt. Its been around 10-15 years. I kept it as a visual reminder & it now hangs on the closet door across the room from my bed. -

I think all my NSVs will have something to do with clothes. I have a beautiful pair of pants from Nordstroms that I have not worn in years. I refused to get rid of them and yes they are still in my closet. They are my motivation. I told my nutritionist that I don't have a number set as a goal. I want to get out of Lane Bryant! (LOL) -

So what about NSVs. What is something small that you are going to be proud of? I think I'll be quite happy when my boots slide up easily over my calves. What's yours? -

Now that I am so close to my goal of 150 I have developed new habits lol one of which will probably be bad eventually lol but hell I went years without bcuz of my weight. My addictions are shopping for new clothes and shoes and crossing my legs!! Lol I have been to the mall everyday this week!!! Lol I am very cost conscience bcuz I only hit the clearance racks and deals in shoes. So I haven't spent to much but I have spoiled myself. But my bday is dec 23 and I'm finished Xmas shoppin for the family already. And I have no clothes now since I have lost 76lbs. Now that I don't have so much extra weight I can now wear the heels I've been wanting to wear! It feels so good to shop on the clearance rack and always find ur size!! Now the crossing legs addiction...I LOVE IT!!! I haven't been able to cross my legs in years!!! Now that I can do with ease I can't help but to always sit like that now! I think it's so sexy and I feel sooooo sexy!!! This surgery was the best thing I cud have ever done for myself and my family and I hope anyone that is thinking about this surgery will definitely get it!!! IT'S SOOO WORTH IT!!!!

2 Great NSVs, new image of ourselves

What fantastic nsvs!! -
I decided that Christmas is the best time to treat myself to a new outfit that fits my new size. I also am going to the in-laws and have not seen most of these people in year, so I want to knock their socks off. I knew I wanted something out of my comfort zone, and I did. It was fun to know that I could go into any shop in the mall and find clothes that fit me for the first time in my life. Even though I felt overwhelmed by all the options. I now understand how young girls and thin people can spend so much time shopping for the right outfit. I also know that I have no sense of fashion, so I asked for help. What an eye opening experience. I have not completed by journey but this sure was a fun NSV, and I am going to look fabulous at the in-laws I hope each of you treat yourself to a new Christmas outfit that fits your new thinner you.

When I chose my screen name last year, I knew that I would live up to the name. I am literally a new person since my vsg on 12/2/11. The girl I was (i say girl, but im 33) was 266 lbs, unhappy, and beginning to go downhill healthwise. I started the process and it saved my life. If I had not, I would never have discovered and conquered severe sleep apnea and high blood pressure. This has been a complete life style change. I am down to 163 lbs. I hit exactly 166 on my surgiversary, which was amazing to me that I lost 100 lbs! I went from a tight 22 to an 8, 3xl to medium, heck my shoes even went from 8 1/2 to 7 1/2!! I will say that this wasn't always an easy road. It was hard to conquer my eating, portions, and "head hunger" in the beginning. The weight melted off the first six months, and after that every pound was work. I still have the motivation to keep going. My personal goal for me is 133, which would leave me at half the woman I was. I excercise with zumba and watch my carbs. I drink water and limit sugary drinks. Have I had bad days? Heck yeah, sometimes too many. But my motivation kicks in and I get back on track. I log my food and excersice when im focused lol. I will also say I hit a moment of depression around month 7 and 8. But sunny days came when I realized I am in control! My many nsvs include being able to ride amusement park rides with my kids, playing and running with them, wearing skinny jeans and if I say so myself looking darn good in them! I bought myself some beautiful leather boots just because they can zip up over my calves. My bro in law blurted to my mother in law behind my back that I look like a model! My mom didnt recognize me at the mall last week. My husband and kids are so proud of me, they loved me then and now. Last but not least, the biggest goal for me was to regain my self confidence. At the risk of sounding full of myself, I longed for the feeling I had when I was slimmer, the feeling of being able to walk into a room with my head held high and knowing I look damn good!! In essence, im not a new girl, I just got the old me back. And I will say im better than before because of my experience. I struggle at times with the attention, because I feel like I was human before this and people were mean. Ive been humbled by this and just thank the Man above for allowing me to go through all of this and appreciating every second, pound, and inch.

I have a problem with getting boots past my ankle. I have a lympdema in my leg. I finally was able to get the zipper past my ankle. So that was a great NSV for me.

1.The deli manager whose store I have frequented for many years, did a triple take yesterday! He said he almost did not recognize me !. Until I placed my regular order ! Made me smile and feel great all week long ! 2. I was talking to a colleague who I speak to about once every 2 weeks. As we were chatting, I realized that she didn't know who she was talking to !!! She said she didn't recognize me until she heard my voice! I think sometimes we cannot see our "new " selves.
