    No appetite.

I'm glad it's not just me. I am only 10 days out but have no desire to eat anything. Only thing I like is a few bites of sugar free applesauce, fat free refried beans and maybe some yogurt.
  2. I do. This is the reason my plastic surgeon recommend I gain weight cuz I have extra skin and only enough fat to fill my boobs. In other words I don't have enough fat to transfer to my butt & places to curve me up. So come April I have 4 months to gain 10/20 pounds you won't notice since it will be sucked out.
  3. Give it time, i also thought i had too much skin , but as it turns out i went from a size 24 to a size 10.... I had surgery 10/3/12........ Only time will tell.....

    Clothing/size question

Hi Gayle, wow congrats so far on your losses!!! You're rocking your sleeve girlie!! Next, usually for the larger sizes you will stay in them much longer than you will the smaller ones. I went through my first sizes a little fast, but I literally stayed in 18's for about 40 Lbs I think. Now in my smaller sizes they are lasting around 7-10 Lbs each. I hope this helps! Don't feel discouraged. You will get there. Time will pass the inches will melt away into smaller clothes.

    Scheduled massage

I buy myself a charm/bead for a Pandora bracelet for every 10 pounds I lose. My the time I reach goal, the bracelet will be full. I've also started with massages, manis, etc---but not attached to any particular weight goal. I just realized I deserved the good treatment
  7. Hi FXA, I'm new to this site too. Congrats on your decision:thumbup:!! I started last Aug 09. I think you really need the time to get your head in the right place. My surgery date is 07/07/10:ohmy:!! I'm excited and can't wait. When is your date? I've already been encouraged by so many nice people:smile2:. Best of luck and much success!! Carol D' (just outside of Boston, MA) Where in US are you from?

    Reappearing period?

Weight loss is a huge reason for irregular periods. I have an IUD, I am only supposed to spot every once in a while. Since, I have had surgery I have had a full period for about 10 days at a time. I went to my gyn 2 weeks ago and she said it is due to rapid weight loss. I did not think I was having rapid weight loss then I thought, I have lost over 30 pounds since 11/23! That explains why my hormones are going a little crazy! She said when weight loss slows things should go back to normal. We shall see!
  9. Sleeved May 28. Lost 10# prior to surgery, 20# more by end of June, then up and down all through July. My daily caloric intake as a pretty sedentary person is around 3500 calories. My daily workout adds another 350 or so. I routinely eat around 1100 cals/day and never more than 1500 but the weight is not coming off. I'm tempted to go back to pre-surgery diet but I don't know how long I can last on that. Since surgery, I sometimes get very dizzy to the point of almost passing out accompanied by a partial hearing loss. I know my blood pressure is lower now but normal, not low. Wondering if any guys can input about whether I'm eating too much, not enough, or whatever.
  10. Ahhh insurance work with them everyday ! Hoping they get everything settled with you! My process to exactly 3 months! My consult was feb 12th all my testing was on March 10. Surg is may 12th. This process is mentally draining ! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I think this may be because of the sticker shock...I mean, personally, I've tried other programs as well, and while they aren't cheap, they also don't require you to plop down $10-20,000 all at one time up front (in many cases). It's more managable to drop a hundred bucks here and there over the period of months/years and not really mentally absorb the overall cost of what we are trying to do as opposed to having to shell out thousands of dollars all at once. I think that really hits home for those of us who are self-pay. I know it was for me...having to pay out of my own pocket is a constant reminder of what I have commited myself to and really drives me to succeed. For me, it's about taking responsibility for the money I spent and trying to make sure I get every dime's worth out of the procedure. Of course for all of us there is an emotional and physcial investment we make, and that in and of itself is generally enough to motivate us to succeeed. Anyway, just a few thoughts as to why the cost of previous programs may have been easier to accept as opposed to the cost associated with the lap band surgery.
  12. I have the same thing going on here, except I was banded Feb 10, 2008 and my surgeon wont fill until mid June (he insisted on the end of June but I will be on vacation). I totally hear you on the struggling part, and I am actually getting to a point that I am scared to eat, and I am very cautious on what I am eating. I have slipped up a few times and over ate, and the thought of throwing it up crossed my mind but I was scared to slip my band. I AM STARVING TO DEATH LOL (i dont actually believe I will die though). Keep up the good work, and I hope you get a fill as this struggling is not fun. I really hate it when people say that we have taken the easy way out by getting the band...

    My 2 month mark

WOW congrats everyone!!!!!!! My 2 month is not until the end of JAnuary I just hope and pray I do as well as you all. My goal was 30lbs but now I am thinking I should push for 35 or 40. I seem to be loosing slower than others but I am happy I am loosing! If I could lose 10 lbs a month I will be at my goal this time next year! HAPPY LOOSING EVERYONE COME ON 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I was eating similarly initially and then the nutritionist said that I should only eat when I was hungry outside of 3 normal meals. She did say if I needed more meals to hit protein goals I could do that too. Since I switched to that the loss sped up again. I'm often so busy during the day that I've only had 3 normal meals by 7 or 8 pm and then to catch up for protein I'm eating dense protein from 8 - 10. If I do a better job spacing things out I will often treat myself with something as an evening snack (like nuts or cottage cheese), which feels great.
  15. Hang in there Karen. I lost nearly 17 lbs. during the two week pre-op diet and since the surgery, about two months ago, 19 more lbs. So...what took two weeks to lose before the surgery, took eight weeks to lose after. Try not to focus on the scale... I know it's hard to do, but try to ignore it. FYI, I joined the 'Y' today. They're saying bad weather tomorrow starting in the afternoon so I'll look to start on Tuesday after work.

    wedding ring...

18 years ago my ring was a size 9. 10 years ago lost weight and resized to 7.5. Then a few years ago resized back up to 8.75. A few months ago took it down to a 6 and thought it would be good. It fell off my hand last night, guess one more sizing is in order!

What do you think of the tv show Saving Grace?

I recorded every episode on Tivo.. I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes, and it's ok.. but I kept getting bored. It wasn't exciting enough for a whole hour. ADD kicked in, and I'd start reading a book. I actually deleted the other 8-10 episodes off of my TiVo last night. I decided it's not one I'm ever going to get around to, because it doesn't draw me in.

    The year was 1906

THE YEAR 1906 This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1906. One hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some of the U.S. statistics for the Year 1906: ************************************ The average life expectancy in the U.S.was 47 years old. Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads. The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million people, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower! The average wage in the U.S.was 22 Cents per hour. The average U.S.worker made between $200 and $400 per year . A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist made $2,500 per year, a veterinarian $1,500 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year. More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S.took place at HOME. Ninety percent of all U.S.doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard." Sugar cost four cents a pound. eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason. Five leading causes of death in the U.S.were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea 4. Heart disease 5. Stroke The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!!!! Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet. There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two out of every 10 U.S.adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." ( Shocking? ) There were about 230 reported Murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A. ! Now I sent it to you and others all over the United States, possibly the world, in a matter of just Seconds !!!!!!!!! PASS THIS ALONG!!!!! Just Try to imagine..... what it may be like .... in another 100 years !!!!!!! IT STAGGERS THE MIND !!!!!!!!!
  19. I just had a fill yesterday bringing me to 9 cc's in the 10 cc Inamed Band. I have gotten fills, gotten restriction, lost restriction, lost weight. gained weight. At the times that i did have good restriction, I would stay satisfied for at least 5 hours. I think my major problem with restriction is that my doctor follow a schedule for fills that in my opinion is too far apart. I would get a fill and for like 3 weeks would be great then lose my restriction (completely at times) and begin to gain the 10 lbs or so that I lost. Yesterday. Dr Fill  says that he thinks that this one may be the one. Before this, at 8 cc's I was able to eat an entire "diner" wrap. I was getting full quicker then pre band but not enough to lose weight.
  20. I'd be lying if I said I'm not worried about my relationship with my husband after weight loss. He's not supportive of my choice to get WLS, he doesn't want to even know when I get it done. Ive been with him for 10 years and have 3 kids. I'm scared that weight loss will give me the confidence that I've lacked and that I'll stop putting up with his crap. He's not horrible, but I do feel like I put up with far more then what most women put up with.

    Felling frustrated.

I am experiencing the same thing. Surgery on 10/1 and I have lost 14 lbs since then but been stalled the last 7 days. I am following all the guidelines too but weight not budging. I went up my 2 week post op apt yesterday and they told me to get off the scale for this first 2 months because I should not be focused on weight loss at this stage yet. This first few months should be about progressing through the diet phases to get back to solids, getting familiar with what foods you can tolerate now post opp, and healing. I don’t like this answer because I currently weigh everyday because it makes me keep myself accountable. Trying to make this mental shift for my own sanity though because I want this to be successful. I do still feel like I am losing inches even though the scale I s not budging. Are you measuring?

    Lapband Journal

Flew from Atlanta to San Diego on 9/9/05 @ 6am. Picked up by driver in San Diego around 11:00 am then driven to Alma Hospital in Mexicali, Mexico (about a 3 hr drive). I was met at the hospital by Yolanda (Dr. Aceves' coordinator) which informed me of the things that would be taking place. Yolanda is a very lovely lady, very informed (was previous a professor at one of the colleges). I was then checked into a room and immediately they started running test for my surgery (X-rays, bloodwork, ekg, etc., I had elected to have surgery the same day I arrived). Dr. Aceves came into my room sat down and talked with me. He is a very soft spoken, kind, and very knowledgable man. He began to demonostrate the band (he had brought one with him), telling me how everything worked, the good and the bad. He made me feel very comfortable answering all questions patiently without making me feel he needed to be seeing the next patient. He understands English very well, but when he speaks you have to pay attention to get it all. Around 1pm I was taken into surgery, 54 min later I was in recovery. I stayed in recovery for an hour then wheeled back to my room. I was expecting lots of pain (according to everything I had read), but it was more "pressure" than pain (for me anyway). By that evening I was up and walking some. Dr. Aceves came by that night, before leaving the hospital to check on me and to ask if I needed a sleeping pill. The nurses checked on me continually throughout the night giving me pain medicine (through my iv) every 3 hours. The next day I walked a good bit because it makes you feel so much better. Sunday, after lunch, Yolanda came by, got the papers for me to check out and took me to the hotel. The driver picked me up the next morning (Monday) around 7am to go to the airport. I did not get back to GA until 10:45pm (a very long trip). The worse thing for me was the flight returning home; sitting that long with the seatbelt over that area was very uncomfortable, even tho I had on very loose clothes. Probably had the flight not been so long (7 hours) it would not have been nearly as bad. I had taken the following week off and basically I just took it slow. I have a 16 year old daughter that helped me alot, but within a day or so I was fine. I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks which actually wasn't that bad. The people at work simply thought I was just drinking tea or something. I had not told anyone at work because I simply did not want to hear their opinion about me leaving the country for my surgery. On November 23rd I went to get my first fill. They could not locate the port (done without fluro). I had to schedule another location a couple of weeks later to get the fill done under fluro. On December 12th/2005 I went to receive my fill (under fluro) and was given a 2.5cc. By the end of December I knew that my fill was too restricted, however, at their request continued to try to work with it. I basically drank my breakfast and often my lunch, sometimes I could eat something like soup for lunch and then by around 5:30pm I could eat like most bandsters do - protein, veggies etc. I struggled through January and February and was pretty much okay other than still unable to eat in the mornings. In March I received some very disturbing news about my daughter that was and still is very stressful. I started having acid reflux during the night; waking up strangling. I contacted the center and they still think I do not need to have a slight unfill; they want me to "work around" this problem. They did put me on medication which I have been on for 3 days now. However, it is only a 14-day treatment so after this I am not sure what will happen. The good news is that I have lost 45 lbs plus 18 lbs before surgery which amounts to 63 pounds. I am very thankful for the band; I would never have lost this much without it. :clap2: 3/16/06 I have an appointment to go get some of the fill taken out. Still having reflux pretty bad; the little food and little sleep is like waaay too much. 4/21/06 Drove to Nashville to have a portion of the fill removed and they could not find/hit the port (after 4 or 5 sticks...ouch). I was sooooo dissappointed after a 6 hour drive, the cost of gasoline, the cost of a hotel room etc. So...I now have an appointment in Tampa, Fla to have the fill completed under fluro. 5/3/06 - Tampa/fillcenterusa - Had fill (1.8cc), everything went great! No problems in locating the port, in fact the easiest one I've had yet. 9/06 - 1 Year anniversary - total of 71 lbs loss. 10/06 - 203 and still loosing, just slowly, but....that's okay. No hair loss, no loose skin etc., and that's pretty good for someone 51 years old. 1/2007 - 193 - total loss of 85 lbs....yeah. 3/2007 - 187 4/2007 - 180 (-98 lbs) yeah!!!
  23. I never really had a weight issues till I was pregnant with my son at the age of 18 I had gone from 110lbs to 220 lbs in that time. He was trying to come at 5 months a long and I started to get steriod shots a lot and my wieght went up. I struggled for years to try and get the wieght off. I did everything the doctor asked of me and after 10 years I went with this option. I wont lie either, I went with this surgry because they said the weight came off faster. I really wish I didnt go with this option. I had it done Sept 2008 by Dec 2008 I was in the er I had lost over 70% of the blood in my body. I had a tear in my intestine and was bleeding out, so I started throwing up all the blood. I woke up a few days later in an CCU room. After that I struggled with vomiting everyday all the time, I never could even get through a yougort for the whole day. I was in so much pain all the time and cried all the time. 2009 I went in to the er and had to have my gallbladder taking out. in 2010 I went to er again with pain and was flown off to a hosiptal to have emergancy surgry my large instine was twisted and dying and that is th e reason I had been throwing up for almost two years at this poing. I spent three weeks in the hopital and was out of work for 3 more months. My life has been more downs then ups since I have done it. I get blockages all the time, my teeth are falling out. I lack viatims, and to this day i still do not eat much. I do not like oign out with people becusae they do no understand the struglle I have. because other people they dknow dont struggle like me. My sugar drops so low i almost pass out. Everyday is something new and more of a reason I wish I never did this.

    Very discouraged

Girl I FEEL YOU! I had surgery 10/20/17. Date of surgery 275 today 219. the scale has been 219, 220, 219, 221, etc. for 5 weeks! I feel smaller but damn that scale!
  25. I had exactly the same experience, and I know how hard it is to remain optimistic with that pain. After the first few days it subsided enough that it was only really bad when I was changing position. I tried the binder and found it to be uncomfortable because it restricted my breathing but the support at night was the only way I was able to sleep comfortably so I did use if for a few nights. Otherwise I basically pressed into that incision with an open palm when I was switching positions and that helped. It was bad, no joke. But I can't stress enough to keep moving. As odd as it sounds I went back to work (pre k teacher) at 15 days and I was literally in tears the night before because I didn't think I could do it with the pain - but apparently it was the best thing for me because it's 5 days later and by my third day at work I realized I am not in pain at all. Now at 19 days I feel normal! So I don't know if it's the moving or what that helped speed along the recovery of that poor beat up muscle but I have to assume it was because it was the only thing that changed. I was literally sitting on my couch going for short walks and running little errands when someone would drive me and now it's like nothing happened. Keep your eye on the prize. I know it sucks but better things are right around the corner. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
