  1. Just wondering.... are there any foods that still ( or all of a sudden ) make you barf ? I ask because I am like 10 years out from a sleeve and the last two times I tried to eat some ( skinny pop ) popcorn..... it came right back up on me. I haven't had that happen in a long time. The first time, I thought, that I probably over ate popcorn; which had been a slider for me.... but then I decided to have some today .... like a month later.... and that did NOT work out well. So... I was wondering have any of you Vets had this experience with anything ?

    Food Before and After Photos

the first two years weren't that hard, to be honest. I just stuck to my plan and tried to exercise regularly. I wasn't a gym rat, but I'd do SOMETHING three or four days a week, even if it was just walking. I wouldn't say it didn't take effort, because it certainly did, but if I stayed committed and didn't stray very often, the weight would come off and stay off. Year three and beyond got a LOT harder. I gained 12 lbs (which actually I probably needed to - my lowest weight was too low for me), but then it became a constant battle to maintain my new weight. If I stop paying attention for more than a couple of days, my weight starts to go up again. I still weigh myself several times a week and track my food - and weigh/measure when I'm not 100% sure how much I'm eating of something. I also set "oh crap" weight levels for myself (which unfortunately I've adjusted up a bit the last couple of years), and when I hit that, it's all hands on deck to get my weight safely back down into an acceptable range again. That worked for a long time, but then I went to India for a month last fall. I didn't have a scale and I ate more than I would if I were at home, but I did NOT eat like a pig. I ate about what a normal person would. And I came back eight lbs heavier. It's been hell taking that off. I've lost 3-4 pounds of it (depending on the day). I used to roll my eyes at these "normies" who'd whine and complain about how hard it was to lose five or ten lbs, but now I totally get it. It is TOUGH. so my advice is 1) follow your plan until you get to your goal 2) once you're there, do whatever you can to avoid gaining weight. A 10-20 lb bounce back after hitting bottom is VERY common, so some of us try to get a little UNDER our goal to account for that. But once you're at what you want to be your final weight, do whatever you can to avoid gaining weight. People do lose regain, but it is TOUGH, especially if you're within a normal BMI range or within 10 or 20 lbs of it.

    Still Winded

    I’m 10 months out. I didn’t feel like myself until6 weeks.
  4. I had a sleeve done 10 years ago. I lost over 140 pounds. At the outset, I only told my closest friends and family. Maybe 8 people - my dad, and brother knew ( but both have passed away since then ). My then 17 year old daughter and her best friend who was HER support person, and 3 friends. I was in my mid 50's - I am now 64 years old. I regained 40 pounds in 9 years. Spent the last year losing those 40 pounds. Who knows now ? My daughter and her best friend, and 3 friends. It does not come up in conversation - people who knew me when I as over 300 pounds assume that it was my divorce - which did coincide with about when I had WLS. I am not skinny by any means, I am now considered overweight by my age adjusted BMI - but I am comfortable in my own loose skin. People who knew me when I was morbidly obese and meet me again now, ask me WHAT HAPPENED ? I tell them the truth " I lost weight". I also do not tell them that I had a hysterectomy and any other medical issues that I have had in 10 years either. Eating less, eating mindfully, and intentionally - along with my sleeve that still does work, if I let it.... is what helped me to lose weight again 10 years later.

Have lost way too much weight

I got really thin during year 2 and then gained 12 lbs in year three without really trying (a 10-20 lb regain during year 3 seems to happen to A LOT of us). So like BigSue said, I guess I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you have other issues going on. You can always gain weight by adding more calories, but that's likely to end up happening in another few months regardless. It's not inevitable, but it's very common.

Gastric Bypass Peeps: Would you do it again?

I just wandered on to this site. I had my bypass 19 years ago. It is probably a bit different now. Iknow people who had a lap band and have gained back their weight. The bypass is harder to defeat but you can do it. I would dump if I ate chocolate or candy and with alcohol. I just kept eating chocolate and now I thrive om it. At first, I could not hold any liquor then it was clear and no it is anything at all. I don't dump anymore. But I don't enjoy ice cream and I used to live on it. But I eat cake and other sweets. I am a big baker. I was about 250 when I started out. Lost 80 and gained back 10. Not great given what I endured but I had a stricture and the fix for that enabled me to eat a lot more. Now I eat like I always did. So at 180 I was much better. No more reflux, which I had bad and I could walk without losing my breath. In time I managed to get to about 150 and stayed there. Even got to 145. Then something happened in my life to motivate me. Six months on WW with working out every day and I was religious about it. I got sown to 112 and stabilized at 114 - 115. It was not easy, but when you really want to do something, you will. That was over 3 years ago. I crept uo to 119 or so and got back to 116. I say am trying to get back to 114 but I have only done this half heartedly. If I really wanted it, I would. But I eat a lot of pizza and pasta and candy and nuts and I drink and have wine on occasion. The bypass is the best thing I have ever done for my health. I should have done it earlier. It totally changed my life. Losing the extra weight was all me. I had to work for it. Now I wear a size 6 or even 4. Lots of loose skin, because of my age, but I look great and I am very happy. I hope this is useful to you.. I am 70 years old.

    Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve

Hi, You will be fine! I, too, was a bandster for 10 years and converted to sleeve 2 months ago. The best word to describe my feeling is RELIEF! the band started out great but then it was too tight, too loose, too finicky from one bite to the next. I have lost 35 pounds and Eat the things that I like. I did away with complex carbs with the band so I haven't (and don't plan on) picked them back up. Best thing, I can eat fruits (All kinds) without throwing up.. You won't regret it. Best,

    Weight gain.....

Due to COVID 19 I am as courteous and supportive to others as I can possibly muster because this time is hard as f**k. I don't know what you are going through, and I don't want to get into a contest about who has it worse, because there is always someone out there that has it worse than me - everybody loses in those contests 😞 So whether you are gaining or losing please accept this virtual hug - you are more than your weight, you matter, and you are loved.

    Weight gain.....

At the end of the day, there are myriad reasons why people may have gained weight over the course of the past 4-5 months. We do not know and cannot know the paths that they walk and the obstacles that they face. COVID-19 is a catastrophic event that has had a huge impact across the world and has upended the lives of EVERYONE. The stresses involved with such a massive disruption to how many people live their lives will have many effects, both visible and invisible. I find absolutely no fault whatsoever with anyone who has gained weight in the midst of the global crisis. Food is a comfort and is (regrettably, in some ways) an easy way to find a moment of peace and solace in the face of so much uncertainty. That some people need to use it to improve their mental and emotional well being is neither surprising, nor shameful.

  12. Easter 2019 before weight loss surgery
  13. Hi everyone, I am becoming desperare and I have no idea what to do. I had gastric sleeve on 20 Nov 2019. Starting weight was 118 kg now I am 93 kg since 15 April. I am 31 years old. A nutritionist told me I don't eat enough and this might be the issue. Are there any people who went throught this? I don't know what I am doing wrong though I suspect I am undereating because....hunger almost disappeared some 3 months ago. While I feel very good at the current weight yesterday someone told me "oh your surgery must not have been successful since you've plateau for so long" and hearing this just hurts. Any tips? Has anyone been in a similar situation? A million thanks in advance and may we all keep up the good work! Roxy

Do and do not eat foods.

I was just asking myself the same question. These are pretty much the same answers I saw online. Corn Tortillas, Pastas, Steak, Pita Bread and Steak were the worst for my husband. He had the lap band about 10 years ago.

    Weight gain.....

Why are people gaining weight during COVID? "The Covid-19 pandemic has likely exacerbated the problem for many teenagers whose daily routines have been disrupted and who now find themselves at home all day with lots of food being hoarded in kitchens and pantries, Dr. Nagata said in an interview. “We’re seeing more patients and referrals for eating disorders and their complications,” he said." With Eating Disorders, Looks Can Be Deceiving
  16. I’ve leveled out after losing nearly half my weight. Doing stuff I love to do now. 2nd pic is me after surgery on pain meds. 1st is this weekend. Deathly afraid of going back up as I never want to be back at my old weight. (Xxxl to med, size 48 to 34). Its an amazing tool and I JUST NOW got to where I knew it was the right decision.
  17. Hi! I am 10 days post gastric bypass surgery, but I am really scared because I am able to eat a lot of yogurt and I’m scared I stretched my pouch! Is this possible or am I spiraling?
  18. that sounds delicious! I will try this one tomorrow. I made a peanut butter and jelly shake with cashew milk that has 10g of protein per serving, organ organic vanilla with 21 grams of protein, 2 servings of PB2 and a tablespoon of sugar free strawberry jelly, 1/4 cup of plain greek yogurt..all less than 10 grams of sugar. it was delicious.

    Weight gain.....

So true !! I also put on weight. From Feb to May 1st I gained 15 or 16 lbs. Then on May 1st I decided it was enough and went back to eating the way we are taught. About 2 weeks later I got the call that my revision to bypass was scheduled. In 3 weeks I lost 6 lbs and have taken the rest off since the bypass. It is much better to get on the horse with a 10 to 20 lb gain then that 50 lbs like you said.

    Weight gain.....

Well, I think in some aspects the metal thing comes into play. Living in a drastically changed environment so quickly can do a number on you. Anxiety, depression, boredom, etc. 24-access to both your fridge and your TV/couch, for those with small kids, the lack of non-kid time to do anything else, wariness of going outside for walks/runs, etc... In my own personal experience, I gained 6 lbs around Feb-March. Reasons? It was probably a combination of laziness and boredom, as well as slacking on weighing and tracking food and exercising. Is it a coincidence that the weight gain coincided with the beginnings of COVID? Maybe, maybe not. I had to refocus and get back to my "regular" habits and with some dedicated effort, I got rid of those effing 6 lbs. For some, given whatever circumstances they find themselves in, it may be more difficult for them. Just like before WLS, people would question why did we gain so much weight? Why do you even need WLS? Can't you just diet and exercise? Same questioning, just different circumstances. So for all those out there who are finding themselves with the COVID-19-lbs-weight-gain, try as best as you are able to get back to what you were doing when you were successfully losing weight. You did it before, you can totally do it again. Addressing a 10-20 lbs weight gain now is alot more manageable than 50 later. Good Luck everyone, and stay safe ❤️

    Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve

Good for you. Only thing that was ever covered by insurance was 2009 banding (232lbs). My ER removal was OOP (2017 143lbs), and so was the Sleeve (8/28/19 173lbs). Have you talked to him about the MGB?

    Weight gain

Before surgery, people repeatedly suggested that I log my food at MyFitnessPal and weigh the food every day. That was way too burdensome for me. But when I reached maintenance weight a year post-surgery, this became my life-saver. Through MyFitnessPal, I discovered that prior to logging, I was eating about 300 calories a day more than my daily required caloric needs (1200/day) and was wildly off when I guesstimated how much food was in a cup. (I always overestimated). If I hadn't started logging and weighing, I would be quickly regaining all the weight I had just lost. Yah, it's a pain. It's time-consuming. And it's burdensome. But it may be what helps you lose those 10 pounds and shed even more.
  24. I'm probably weird, but before I made the decision to have surgery, I looked for WLS horror stories because I like to be prepared for the worst-case scenario and it kind of helps me to know what that is. I was surprised by how difficult it was to find horror stories and people who regretted their WLS. Even some people who had horrible complications still said they would do it again! The reality is that the overwhelming majority of people have few complications (or none) and the surgery drastically changes their lives for the better. Also, it is a lot safer than it used to be, so some of the horror stories from 10 or 20 years ago are about complications that are incredibly rare now. I still thought, "Yeah, but what if I'm the unlucky one out of hundreds who has horrible complications or dies?" I took some steps to make sure my affairs were in order just in case (like updating my beneficiaries and calling my mom, who didn't and still doesn't know I had surgery), but you can't spend all your time worrying about everything bad that could possibly happen, because bad things can happen no matter what choices you make. I do not remember going under at all. I don't remember being in the OR or seeing the anesthesiologist or counting backwards from 100 or anything. The last thing I remember was being wide awake in the surgery staging area, and the nurse said she was going to give me a heparin shot in my stomach but she would wait until the Versed kicked in. Next thing I knew, I was waking up after surgery.

    Grief and staying on track

It’s been a year since my gastric sleeve surgery and I’ve lost almost 90lbs. During COVID 19 quarantine I gained 5 lbs I believe because I wasn’t being as active. I used to go to the YMCA 3 to 4 times a week, but during the quarantine the Y was closed. On a good note I lost the 5 lbs by drinking lots of water and being more active at home. 3 days ago my mother passed away in her sleep (not COVID-19). I’m having a hard time eating food, but no problem eating junk. For example I tried to eat a healthy, grilled turkey burger and could only eat a couple bites, but I had no problem eating some ice cream and peanut M&Ms! I know I’m grieving but I’m also beating myself up because I worked so hard to lose the weight and I don’t want to gain it back because I’m an emotional wreck! My husband thinks I’m being too hard on myself, am I?
