Lap Band Scheduled For 5/23/12 So Nervous!!
bigenuff replied to Christine2126's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My best friend died from diabetes at 26 yrs old.I got gestational diabetes with my son in 2009.they told me because of my weigh If I didn't have it after his birth I would probably get it back with a couple of yrs.death is inevitable but dying from diabetes, high blood pressure, and other weight related diseases is not.I'd rather die in plane crash or something that was out of my control than to know that My demise was all my own fault. -
Sashimi is usually cut thin. The block of fish is the piece the counterman cuts the slices from. I'm sure though, if you ask for thin sliced sashimi, they will do it for you. I was also going to recommend sashimi. The fish alone, without the rice or sauce or other toppings is very low in fat and calories and is a healthy option as long as you stay away from the soy sauce...or cut the soy sauce with Water. This is what I do and I find that I don't have much water weight gain from the sodium content. Enjoy!

I Need to Ask Some Questions
jillw8 replied to x4achange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can guarantee you the feelings you are having are normal. You are not alone. To answer some of your questions: The feeling of trapped air does go away. I think it is just our bodies adjusting to this major change. Keep taking your PPI, should help the reflux issues. I count the Water in Protein shakes. I also count Jello, Popsicles, and ang other liquid. Fast weight loss is normal in the beginning! It will slow. You are doing great and I had to remind myself that I went through a major surgery and it changed my life. Hang in there!!! Jill -
I’m scheduled for my first in-person consult March the 7th. I’ve already been told through my phone consult that I am a candidate and my insurance will cover the procedure. My BMI is 38 and I have hyperlipidemia and knee pain. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> Although I am overweight (5’7” 245) I am active, I lift weights and work on my small ranch in Texas. My question is, especially to the men who have had the procedure, is how does a 800 to 1000 per day calorie restriction affect your energy levels and ability to retain and build muscle? I want to lose fat for health reasons and for appearance, but I do not want to loose muscle as well.

I went in this afternoon my 2 week post-op appointment. My recovery has went smoothly up until yesterday when I noticed redness around my largest incision. Today it was even more red and started oozing this afternoon. So now I'm on a 5 day round of antibiotics. Hope it clears up soon! Good news is my doc was happy with my weight loss and moved me to pureed foods! Refried Beans never tasted so good!

Hello my name is Joyce and I am 39 years old and ready to turn 40 years.I had lost 150+ lbs in almost 2 years but sad to say I gained it all back and then some after my father passed away last year in January in front of me while doing CPR on him.I also suffer from back problems(a buldged disk an two slipped disks,I am COPD which has gotten much worse,I also have messed up knees.I had attended seminars in the past with my sister which had gastric and has done very well.At the time I didnt need any kind of surgery cause I was doing it on my own.I am wanting to get lap band done instead of gastric because I have seen the effects of my sisters surgery and some of the things she has experienced scared the crap right out of me.I know Georgetown does the lap band surgery but I would love more info on it please:crying:

5’2 with a bmi of 32. I paid for my surgery at Mexico so I didn’t have to worry about the financial part of it but I was terrified of being rejecting for not having a bmi higher enough. When I went there, I saw other women who were whole lot less bigger than I was and no one even mentioned my bmi. I was just warned a lot not to gain more than what I have mentioned on my charts prior to surgery. But yeah, as someone else mentioned it here, I did contemplate eating to gain if it meant I would get approved. And listen, no one understands how difficult losing weight is for you other than yourself. I lost 50 pounds and everyone else says I was not big enough to have gone for this surgery but I know how those 50 pounds affected my life and what losing them has done for me. No one else will ever understand that.

I love love love to walk. I was walking 2-3 miles a day my goal was 4 miles aDay In an hour. I nan do 2 miles in 30 min. So doable. That is until an old hip injury resurfaced. I had surgery on my left hip in 04. And was part of the reason I gain the weight. Now I'm lucky to get a day where I can get my 2 miles in Then I'm laid up for a few days in pain from the hip injury. Winters coming to NNY. So I planning on getting a gym membership. Any suggestions. Anyone out there suffering from chronic pain in their joints too.

I have been working with a personal trainer 3 days a week and here is what we do on those days... 30 minutes of strength training (weights) then 30 minutes cardio. She/he (I work with a woman 2 days and a guy one day) both said always do weights first - and it I can only get one thing in to make it the weights because you burn more calories and tone more by the strength training. But I think it really depends on your goals -and the most important thing is that you just get to the gym and exercize! Here is a good short article on this topic... My link

Hi all just wondering about this I had surgery on 12.12 and felt like I was doing well. But I got my period and the scale hasn't moved! I'm really frustrated by this. I have a call into my doctor's office, but I'm wondering what you all think. Has this happened to anyone? Could I be doing something wrong? Looking forward to hearing what you all think. Thanks, April

Starting out in a "stall"... has anyone else experienced this?
joatsaint replied to tamigail7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The weight will come off. I've been through at least 3 stalls that lasted around 7 days in my 11 weeks since surgery. I bugs the crap out of me every time. But suddenly, I'll wake up the next morning and be 1 or 2 lbs lighter. The weight loss is not steady or continuous, but it does come off. Hang in there. Keep pimpin your sleeve! -
I had my surgery 6/12/12 and have lost a little over 75 lbs. I have not noticed that my energy level has gone up at all. I haven't started an exercise program and am leaning towards doing zumba. I just have to wait for the next classes to start. I am at a stand still on my weight loss and I am getting depressed about it. I had noticed that since I am able to eat pretty much any type of food, I had been making poor food choices. With the holidays, it was very hard on me with all the sweets! I am conscious of this, so I went to the store yesterday and purchased more healthy foods for me. What type of exercise program for beginners do you recommend?

Calories! Help. Am I getting the bare min.?
Kathy473 replied to aleecia2331's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's possible that you can stop losing weight if you do not get enough calories. When I went to Jenny Craig awhile back they told me that if you don't have enough calories to burn then your body tends to hold on to them, resulting in no weightloss. Not sure of a web site that can tell you about it but your surgeon might have a dietitian that you can also ask. Hope this helps. -
I am currently looking at getting banded. My big question is for those who it didn't work for - why? I would be self pay and of course don't wnat to spend $20K and then not have it be the right tool for me. So is it because we slowley slip into old habits? dont exercise? think we can loose and not exercise and then just slowly nibble the weight back on?

Hello Everyone...First time on this site and still trying to navigate through all this very helpfull info!!! I'm scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, August 14 and am very nervous but quite anxious to finally be able to proceed forward with this banding "tool" for weight loss!!!:clap2: I do have a question...my most recent labs suggested that I am low on magnesium. Does anyone have any comments on magnesium levels? Thanks!

About a year ago I went through the process and was denied because my comorbidities weren't severe enough. So I tried diet, excercise and to at least maintain. However I've gained about 15 pounds which puts me at the low end of being 200% over. Lack of energy, lack of self esteem, joint pain and GERD has of course gotten worse with the weight gain. I go in one week from today to reweigh and update H&P and resubmit. I'm currently on prednisolone for an allergic reaction, so hopefully that weight gain will come into play before my appt. Tuesday. Wish me luck!

Hey all. Wasn’t sure what section to post this in. Question for those with tattoos and skin removal. I’m looking at tattoos on the front/ outside of my thighs and or the outside of my arm or shoulder blade area. I do know I want skin removal once I finish the rest of my weight loss. I am about half way. With the skin removal did your tattoos get stretched or warp in these areas with the continue right loss?

Tattoos/ skin removal
jayteee2660 replied to caitmarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, tattoo artist with a sleeve here. So if you'd like to avoid any and all warping, I'd recommend waiting until AFTER you get your skin removal surgery. As with skin removal surgery they cut out shapes and then pull the edges together to contour and reshape your body, if any tattoo is near the areas, it is likely going to get distorted. This is why I have personally halted getting a back suit, my stomach tattooed, anymore thigh tattoos, and anymore arm tattoos. I already have an underboob piece that is already distorted just from losing weight, and I know once I get skin removal done, it's going to be lower than where it was and it might become misshapen. If I knew id be doing this, I wouldn't have gotten the tattoo yet haha! If you have any other questions feel free to ask [emoji847] Sent from my IN2017 using BariatricPal mobile app -
My Little Piece of Heaven
hikergirl14 replied to hikergirl14's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I just think it is those little things that make us more uncomfortable than the weight sometimes. -
I've been up and down on weight many times in my life. 4(ish) years ago I was fitting into size 36 pants and I saved them in the hopes that one day I'd lose weight again and be able to fit in them. Well, yesterday I pulled them out of the closet and they fit great! YES! We just had a health screening here at work and I felt great when they weighed me. Although I'm still above my ideal weight, I'm on my way there! My blood pressure had gone back to normal, and I'm great on paper now! Just excited and wanted to share!

My surgeon is DR. Scott Steinberg who is located in Decatur, GA. He is an excellent surgeon/physician and I would recommend him to any one. He is young(in his early thirties), but don't let his age fool you! He is very experienced and knowledgeable. He is also really good with the followup procedure, as well. I have been banded about 71/2 months and have had 4 fills already. He is not conservative with the fills or the fill amounts. The only thing he cares about is my overall health and getting me to my goal weight. If you are looking for a great surgeon in the Atlanta area, I recommend giving his office a call at (404) 501-7081, his assistant is named Cheryl. She can answer any questions that you may have:D Lisa

Yay! I got my surgery date today! I have to go in for my pre-op appointment next Monday and my surgery is scheduled for Thursday, July 19. I am so happy that they were able to schedule a date so soon. I want to be off of my modified liquids diet before I go back to school (work). I will be 4 weeks post-op by then, and 12 weeks post-op by my brother-in-law's wedding. I can't wait for my body on the outside to match my personality on the inside. I am so excited! I am motivated to get as much weight as I can off before the wedding. Wahoo!

What to ask my doctor when talking about WLS?
katanne replied to Tierra T Tij's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm also afraid my PCP won't write the required letter for my insurance. But if you're clear about the ways your weight is affecting your health, and that you know what the WLS process entails, it's very likely you'll get the referral. Of course I have to keep reminding myself of this as well! -
