Not getting enough protein..
Inner Surfer Girl replied to simplyamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's difficult but you can get in 70 grams of Protein with liquids. 2 premier Protein shakes would give you 60 grams. You just need to be sipping all the time. You can do it. Getting in your protein is critical for both healing and weight loss. My surgeon was emphatic when he said that there is no physical reason someone couldn't drink 3 premier Protein drinks the day after surgery. You've just got to keep sipping! -
Loosing more weight Oh! NO
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to Sexy Granny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wouldn't try to bring it to a halt unless you are at a point where you are so underweight that your health is suffering. Anything you lose has a chance of coming back, and the longer you lose, the greater the odds of the last few pounds returning. So I'd say you take what you can get in the way of weight loss, and if you are happy where you are, your body will likely help you settle back there once maintenance begins. However, it wants to be heavier than you want, so once you are back there, you will have to be more proactive about shutting down the rebound. -
Very slow weight loss?
astarwalker replied to astarwalker's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
HI Monica. So after talking to several nutritionists specialized in bariatrics, and researching, I now made peace with the rate of my weight loss. Somebody here posted a table of weight ranges according to age and height. This also helped. I am 61 will be 62 in two months. Have had already major weightloss with my lap band years ago, so this is my second surgery. All nutritionists said these two details are a big factor that will affect my weight loss. I have now lost a total of 33 pounds in 3 months. My lab tests just came in and I am in the absolute normal range, which means no more cholesterol. No more diabetes. No more high blood pressure. This in itself is already my great victory! I now [emoji817] % fir sure that I will loose the rest 20-25 Kgs (40-45 pounds). If it takes a month longer that is also fine. My full bonus is already here, I am medicine free!! I feel great (except for the occasional gas which sometimes, drives me and my hubby crazy kkk) and hope everyone here has great success with their journey. We have all carried our weight too long with all the pain and I suffering that it involved. Now we are all getting a second lease. This in itself is a great thing. So let us all enjoy the ride. be kind and loving to ourselves and also patient with our bodies. They have endured a lot already. Lots if live to everyone. I had a sleeve done in August 2010. Had typical post surgery issues, but lost and kept off 100+. Had hernia surgery 2x but reflux and gerd required revision. 3 weeks bypass post op. Now back to beginning but with less weight loss, excess terrible gas, insomnia, and depression. Need someone to talk through ledge sitting and weepiness.

It sounds like you made a healthy choice for you. I am so happy for you. We have our own challenges to deal with. I wanted a support system for me when no one around me is being supportive. I am grateful I found this site. Weight Loss Surgery going to be alot of hard work, but I think it will be worth it when I go look at myself down the road.

Feeling frustrated...
Swiftflow replied to angel96049's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just my thoughs based on my weight loss experience: Whats the total on that calorie wise? Just at a brief glance, your calorie intake could be low and your body is in starvation mode or adjusted to the long term low calorie diet. Some possible changes to the ones you already mentioned: 1. try to up your calories a couple of days to jump start your body into burning again 2 days at 1000-1200 calories (edit: healthy foods --use shakes as additional suppliments and not main meals) 2. take a long term approach of 3 on 1 off-- 3 days at low calorie 1 day maintenance level calories (based on your base metabolic rate) This helps prevent the body from ever getting used to the low calories all the time. Again these things have worked in the past on stalls--I obviously have gained it all back and am awaiting my sleeve to help me keep wieght off and not just be a professional dieter. stall article : http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html -

5 week appointment...No Fill Needed!!!
BillOh replied to IWannaBeSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats, we are in similar situations. I went in at 4 weeks and had lost close to 30 and he scheduled my first fill for the 8 week after my surgery date. My weight loss has slowed down a little, so I'm looking forward to the fill. At this point I'm within 2 pounds of shedding the obese label for the first time in 12 years. -

lindar172 replied to IWannaBeSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your weight loss. I didn't have my fill until my 2 month checkup and I was glad of that. Since then I have had two fills and am doing well now. Keep up the good work and good luck with finding a protein replacement you can tolerate. -
What to bring day of surgery!?!
tmcx28 replied to bluejeanbaby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I brought baby wipes, Chapstick, my own slipper socks with grips on the bottom cause the ones from the hospital just don't cut it, my phone and charger, a kindle, my own pillow, gas x strips, dry shampoo cause my hair gets icky fast, loose pajama pants, and my toothbrush -
Recently I felt attacked by someone and this type of behavior in the past would have sent me spiraling down into a deep dark depression of binging and purging. I have elected to take the higher road and not let this behavior undermine what I have accomplished to date. I will say that this type of behavior is what I was so hoping to rid myself of. I see now that this will never be the case. I will just have to understand there are these types of people in the world. I can't change their behavior nor can I change the way they treat me. I CAN change the way I react to that behavior. I also choose to not participate in the communication interchange which makes me feel attacked. Again I say I have taken the higher road and will keep striving for the brass ring. Thanks for reading. Just my own personal rantings. I am so happy I have this forum to vent like this.

I think the one thing that really slows my weight loss is my friends. Not that they are forcing food in my mouth, but they are all overwieght and eat what they want when they want. It is really hard for me to go out to eat with them and order the chicken breast and veggies when they are all ordering something so good. We all eat together about 1-2 times a week and I have no will power when I am with them. It has nothing to do with them and I am not blaming them by any means. I myself have to get out of the habit of rewarding myself with food and be strong enough to order the low cal entree on the menu. I live in a suburb of Dallas and we have over over 40 sit down restaraunts. This does not include fast food. They are too many too count. We have 4 restaraunt rows in my city and at least 4 McDonalds in my city alone, so you can imagine how easy it is to get something to eat. I rarely have time to cook with my schedule so I eat out a lot. For some reason when I am with my friends my band doesn't work! I'm sure it is all mental and mostly just out of habit, but thank god I am working on it. I have a friend coming to visit tonight who likes to eat so I have been preparing myself all day that I will order low fat off of whatever menu we get! It's all a mind game and we have to find out what it is that can trigger our good eating on a meal to meal basis.

From the album: Progress
This is a side-by-side comparison of my somewhat rough head. The pic on the left is actually pulled from my driver's licence and was taken in December 2014. My surgery wasn't until Feb 25th, 2015, so it's likely I was a little heavier than the pic by then. The pic on the right was taken at 6 months post surgery. It represents a loss of 65kg (143 pounds) and puts me just over half way to my "goal". -
I'm in Frederick Md and am going to Dr. Barry Greene, Advanced Weight Loss Centers, in Gaithersburg. He came highly recommended by my thyroid doc's husband, who also has privileges @ Shady Grove Hosp. (I was relieved by the independent recommendation!)

I don't mean to be rude but there's someone really called Johnny Fairplay? Did Bush make him up? Reminds me of one of those army action toy dolls. Is he a secret agent? Completely unknown in the UK. Perhaps that's our loss. What's his real name? What is he famous for?

I understand exactly how you feel! I was banded on June 14, 2010 and have only lost 5 pounds since then. I am only eating about 500-600 calories per day. I am wondering if this is even going to work for me. People keep telling me that I may not be eating enough to lose weight, so I can't help but wonder what is going to happen when I have restriction and can't even eat that much?! They really didn't prepare me for the fact that there would be minimal weight loss after surgery. I was losing more weight before the band!

Any Banders with MS (multiple sclerosis)?
SeaSounders♥ replied to SeaSounders♥'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh no @@Susysleever it is one of those things that's hard to diagnose because other Neuro diseases can display the same symptoms. Did you have a spinal tap to have them test your spinal Fluid? That was the final determining test for me!! I am always tired and weak but the weight loss has helped my energy level immensely. Sorry to hear about your vision and night driving problems that sucks badly.. Hopefully once you’re diagnosed and start treatment therapy you will notice differences. #prayers -
You are absolutely on the right path. This surgery is amazing. It is the tool that has made weight loss possible for me. You will feel so much better as the weight comes off. I can walk better, cross my legs etc. It's great. I think the plication is the better choice because you don't have to mess with fills etc. I was going to do the lap band originally but am so glad I chose the plication. Any surgery is scary but this is so non invasive compared to many other surgeries. I was back to work in six days! You will do great.

How did your significant other handle your weight loss?
Brian B replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My wife has been extremely supportive and extremely happy for me thought my whole journey. I think she does feel the stress as I approach her weight, which she has struggled with since I have known her. I think that what I eat and the amount of physical activity has encouraged her to keep up with me. So my weight loss has invigorated her to be healthier. Sometimes I feel bad for her because I make my weight loss seem so easy, and I feel that I get a little preachy when it comes to helping her work through her weight issues. I know she doesn't have the same tools as me but I want her to succeed because I feel that her frustrations might be exacerbated because of my wins. Either way, she is happy for me which makes it all seem worth it. -
This time 6 months ago I was waking up after my surgery in the ICU. After a moment on confusion and throwing up I started my road to recovery. Before surgery it scary and so hard to imagine what life would look like now, and now I dont know what I was scared of. The journey hasnt always been easy but it has been worth it. I spent alot of time working on myself, my relationship with food and with others. I still have a way to go to be where I want to be both in weight, the way I look and the way my life looks, but it all feels very achievable now. As far as stats go to to date I have lost 105 pounds, and about 5 pounds from my first major goal....i work in kilograms, so to be in double digits will be my first big celebration. From there I have another 60 pounds to go.I wear anything from a 20 to a 14 now depending on the make. It is hard to judge but have been splurging on some goal outfits as I go along....at times I have bought clothes that are already too big for *shrug* I still have some minor issues with reflux but control this with medication at the moment, still am hopeful I will get off these soon. I eat what I want, tho my body does crave healthier more nutrient rich food and am learning to control the binge urges more than I ever have. I have been working out intensely since 6 weeks out, now work out twice a day averaging 5 days a week. My fitness is getting better and better. There have been stalls and downs but I try take them with a grain of salt and keep working on the next goals, mix it up and keep moving forward. They can really do your head in if you let them. I had my follow up with my GP last week and he did not recognise me. I am getting alot of comments, positive feedback and endorsements of what is happening, alot of positive, some people have also decided to add their opinions about who I was before and how I ate without really knowing anything about what i have gone through and the mental changes I have had to make with the physical. Some highlights (NSV's if you like) from the last 6 months: - Being able to run for over 20 minutes straight and extending that - Fitting in and feeliing confident in my first little black dress - Not complaining and actually wanting my photo taken now - Last Friday night, being able to dance the night away in heels with only minimal pain after 7 hours - Walking the whole parade route (back and forth) while in New Orleans for Mardi Gras - No more extender belts on planes, feeling more comfy in those cattle class seats - Not sure if this related but feeling less stress in my life, being able to hand stressful situations better, think this is more to do with my mental health that i have been working on, before I was a major stresshead - Only taking pain killers twice since surgery, once because I drank way too much the night before, before I felt like I was always having some ache or pain - Feeling like I want to jump, dance on a regular basis Below are the before and todate pictures, the newest picture was from a work Ball I went to last Friday and we had our hair and make up done, I got so many comments and felt so good all night. I still have work to go and plan to keep on keeping on. At the end of the first year I am planning on taking a celebration road trip around the US...not celebrating with food.

Trying To Drop 50 B4 Mexico
Bufflehead replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have lost 45 lbs since the middle of June, and I am also pre-op looking to get my BMi down and health better before surgery. My plan: eat between 1200 - 1350 calories per day eat high: protein, fiber, calcium, potassium eat low: fat, cholesterol 30 - 60 minutes of aerobic exercise six days per week. track everything I eat on myfitnesspal, no exceptions drink at least 6 cups of water per day other than water, drink only black coffee and one cup of skim milk per day. My nutritionist has had me bump up both calories (to 1400-1500) and exercise (extra 15 minutes a day) going forwards toward surgery. I haven't weighed in yet so I've been doing that the last ten days and am not sure of the results. That's another part of my plan -- I do not weigh myself except once about every three weeks at my doctor's office. Oh and I do not count carbs or sugars right now although I am advised that will change at least while I am in weight loss phase after surgery. -
I haven't been to a Nut class or seen the surgeon yet but I am trying to lose anyway. I've lost 28 pounds since first of December. Gained back 11(was on prednisone for a week) and now lost 4 more so total of 20 pound loss in a little over 2 months. I have slowed down on my sofa I take, started drinking more water- I made it to about 57 ounces yesterday- so I'm getting there. I assume the dr will want me to lose some weight before surgery - but just have no idea what to expect until I see him. Right now I'm waiting for my pcp to send in letter of recommendation and the hospital will then submit to my insurance. Then idk what to expect.... but I hope it doesn't take too long! I am so ready to get this surgery and lose this weight.

8 months since decision feeing great !
LoriNumbers replied to olliesoda's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
As you can imagine it won't be as easy in the good old USA. I do have a couple of co-morbidities. I need my knees replaced because of arthritis and the ortho suggested the weight loss surgery. I'm hoping insurance will pay for the knees and the weight loss sx. -
Because of my pre-op diet, I was a BMI of 30.5 on my surgery day. I had a BMI as high as 37 when I was heaviest but I had been dieting to bring it down. I knew it was just a matter of time before the weight came back on because over the course of my adult life I've lost 270 pounds from diets (and this isn't counting all the short diet times where I lost 10-15 pounds over and over). With my "low" BMI I was able to reach a "normal" BMI by 3 mo. out, but then it really slowed down and now I only lose a few pounds each month. I eat when I'm hungry, exercise by doing a lot of walking and hiking, and I am 2 pounds from my goal weight of 140 (BMI 22.1). At first I was worried that I'd get too thin and wouldn't be able to maintain a healthy loss, but as my body reached a normal weight, it naturally slowed itself down and I can see now that I think I'll be able to maintain a weight of 135-140 without too much trouble.
