I knew the second I saw the thread title someone would bring up genepro. It is impossible to cram 30 grams of anything into a tablespoon. Lol -
Surgery postponed, new date July 12
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to Krista143's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I buy my GENEPRO online thru Amazon. It is kind of expensive but it only takes 1 tablespoon. Some will argue about the grams of protein, I have used this for quite awhile now and have not had anything abnormal on my blood work. It is the only one that is tasteless that I have found. Good Luck -
Protein Powder Suggestions

I am neither endorsing nor recommending this product other than to say I have used it: https://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Nutrition-Protein-Turmeric-Servings/dp/B01DOEL8CM?th=1 Tumeric flavored bone broth powder. The problem with it is the fact that it is a poor protein, collagen. This is not a protein that has any great efficacy with muscle growth or retention. It can't hurt, but it is not really giving you the same bang for your buck in regards to usable protein. But it is at least better than Genepro. Pretty much any unflavored whey protein powder would work with a heavily spiced or seasoned mashed vegetable IMO. While I do enjoy a great tasting meal, an OK tasting meal that meets my macros is far more worthwhile IMO. -

OK, this is going to be a bit long winded, but you asked! I am literally going to copy/paste my past post because I don't feel like typing a book. I find the best way to prepare GENEPRO is to make sure the lid is on tightly and then chuck it in the trash. The makers of that stuff are about as shady as they come. They say their magical process reduces the size of Protein molecules! In their own words: They are saying their 10g of special protein is equivalent to 30g whey. I believe this says it best about Genepro: Long story short, they are selling lies. Most likely they are selling BCAA's and calling it protein. Do yourself a favor and buy a reputable protein brand. Gold Standard is good brand. There are so many manufacturers that lie on their labels, you almost have to look them up and see how many lawsuits they have against them before you buy! If their process was true, every other maker out there would be following suit because it is such a cutthroat business. The fact that most retail chains refuse to carry it is evidence of the company's reputation. The only reason I reply (yet again) to this type of post is to protect new patients from wasting money on snakeoil. I need to bookmark my reply to this ridiculous garbage product. It comes up so often it's a PITA to search for it. The manufacturers even admit that there is really only 10 grams of protein, but it is magically fast with absorption and is the equivalent to eating 30 grams of protein. It's a whey based product. It is most definitely not 30 grams of bio-available protein. The calories are just not there either. This stuff does not contribute to satiety, meaning you will still be hungry. At best it leaves protein markers in the blood stream, more likely though your body will start to break down your own muscle tissue for the protein that it needs. It does not provide the building blocks the body needs for muscle tissue, nails and hair. So you are most likely will have issues with that. Just stay away from this crap and ask your NUT if they are just espousing what a marketing rep told or did some actual leg work and investigated it. I'll wager they did not. Oh, and on the subject of unflavored powder. They are just that, unflavored. That does not mean they have no flavor, it merely means that they do not mask the natural flavor of the powder. I tried unflavored in the beginning, but it only worked for me with very strong soups like curries or tomato. -

Protein shakes post op and protein water
RHmama replied to odontask's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the GenePro unflavored protein powder (available at GNC or Amazon). Adds 30 grams of protein to your food. I put it in soup, oatmeal, mashed cauliflower, Crystal Light and I just discovered putting it in Propel water. Has a slight odor but overall very good! -

Any one ordered through Bariatric Pal before?
Lexington1020 posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I am starting to buy my supplements and I was curious if anyone bought their stuff exclusively through Bariatric Pal store and if they have tried GENEPRO Medical Grade Unflavored 30g Protein Powder - 2nd Generation. I am kinda overwhelmed as to what to purchase- also if any women can offer insight to the soft chews (as far as good flavor) I was going to buy the three pack- but then put it back and just stuck with berry. Any information is welcome! TIA! -

Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
jmar23 replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's only 15 grams of protein since it is impossible to get 30 grams of anything into a 15 gram scoop. Search this forum for genepro. It comes up often. Just my .02 cents though so take it for what it's worth. -
Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
pretty.ruby replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Genepro has an unflavored medical grade protein. That is 30 grams per table spoon. It can easily be stirred into sugar free pudding which would give you plenty of protein per meal or try it in crystal light to do double duty in raising your protein and getting your fluids for the day. Donna -
Unjury or Genepro??
BigViffer replied to ReginaPhalange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh they are truly unflavored. But that does not mean they have no flavor. They just didn't add anything to mask the taste of the powder. Big difference. As far as Genepro, it's worthless and has been discussed ad nauseam: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?&q=genepro&search_in=titles&sortby=relevancy -
When it comes to unflavored protein powders - are Unjury and Genepro TRULY unflavored? I tried Isopure unflavored and it was definitely not unflavored. It also made my Crystal Light thicker, which was gross. Please let me know what you think!!

This is just my opinion which means nothing, BUT, there are Bariatric clinics who recommend GenePro. It isn't "bad" for you in the sense of being a bad product. Now does it contain 30 grams of protein, prolly not, more like 15-20. Is it pure protein, prolly not, but if you are eating a diet rich in protein it's not that serious. If your doctor is fine with the product and your blood work is fine then enjoy. I used it the first month with no problems but it was recommended by my doctor because I could not get protein shakes down until 8 weeks post op. It's a personal choice but in no way is it poisoned and harmful, just factually overrated perhaps. Your decision.

GENEPRO
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to Sherrie Scharbrough's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, the reason and the only reason that I loved GENEPRO is because I can use it in whatever. I am NO WAY pushing anything on anyone. I am NOT getting anything from this company. I don't have a pictue up because I don't know how to do it. And I also had been on here for quite awhile but I quit using the other account due to being hacked and went to my true name. My old account was under shedo82773. I am not new here at all. If onmly had to use GENEPRO as my protein intake well yes there would be problem. I also eat to get protein also. It would seem to me that if I was having problems it would show up in my bllodwork that is still beiing sent to my BARIATRIC SUREGON. I know if there was a problem they would be the first ones to let me know. I am sorry that this post made so many upset. Like was said we all have to do whatever it takes to maintain our health. So if YEARS down the road I get myself in trouble I will come back here and tell you that you were roight. Again Have a great day -
Band-to-sleevies, do you like the sleeve better?
rcm1216 replied to rcm1216's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Sara! I'm doing well. Tomorrow will be two weeks since my revision. I've lost 7 pounds, but I'm still retaining some fluid and swollen. I weigh 157 today. I'm not hungry. The soreness was pretty much gone after 6-7 days, and the part that seemed to linger the longest was the place where my port used to be. I'm having Gatorade Low Cal and creamed soups mostly, and I notice a difference than with the band. At two weeks with the band, I felt huge restriction, and I vomited quite a bit-slime and all. I feel full with the sleeve, but no urge to vomit-not "stuck" or over-full. I hope this doesn't mean I won't feel any kind of restriction when I graduate to regular foods. Any advice on that hermione53? My doctor recommended a protein powder, and I'm liking it so far. I can't get 60-80 grams any other way. It's called Genepro. There's some debate about it online because they claim to use some science to pack 30g of protein into 1 tbsp. My doctor says it's good. I add it to creamed soups, and I can't taste it. And only 1 small tbsp! How are you all doing? -
Well thank goodness...I thought it was pre-op diet day 8, but it's really 9. So, today went just ok again. Will be busy tomorrow so I need to make sure I have stuff handy while I'm out and about. I've noticed I've been on edge with my kids, hubby, work, and all the posts about genepro, stalls, and stretching the sleeve...doing my best to contain myself. I know most of it is in my head, cause my body is being sustained with something at least. Sucks to not eat a regular healthy meal, but hey, it's all for my health and it's temporary. I think I'll take a break tomorrow from logging in...I need to breath.
Ya'll have a blessed night and great day tomorrow!
-
The edge is normal. Lol. Well, I took my breather. Feel much better. Had an awesome dream about my surgery last night. Such peace this morning. Don't think I'll navigate too much on the forums today.

I am glad you are feeling better. I say stay away from them for the time being. Your surgery is soon. Do not need negative vibes, only positive energy. Good for the heart and soul.
@Sweet as peaches how are you doing over there lol?

I'm doing well thanks. Hanging in there last minutes things to do but otherwise manageable. And what's happening with you? Any new recipes?😎

2 Weeks Post-Op and feeling a little regretful?
Honeybee17 replied to Honeybee17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me could take some of that liquid, like Pepto Bismal, but it's called something else, for nausea. I'll look at my paperwork and find the name for you. Maybe that'll help your nausea. Being nauseous won't help you get to your goals of you can't get your protein in. Also my doctortold me about GenePro, which you can get at UNC. 1 scoop is 30 g of protein and it is flavorless. So you can pour our on anything! Goggle GenePro GNC send read the reviews. They are all from people who have had Gastric Bypass like us and most of the reviews are great!
