I have my morning coffee (no breakfast - as I am almost never hungry for it), around noon I would have a salad with fixings and FF Italian dressing, a cup of coffee in the afternoon after work, for dinner some chicken or whatever meat I made that day and veggies (the vegetables in those steamer bags ), and at night maybe some frozen yogurt or pudding with coolwhip. Although lately I can't even eat anything! This morning I tried some egg beaters in the microwave with about 1 Tb of cheese and I can even eat it.... water is hard for me now.... I have bad (and I mean BAD) acid reflux at night and during the day but worse at night. I have to sleep sitting up right... I can hear my esophagus all night long... it gurgles.... all night... no matter what antacids I take its horrible. ....

Bluck! Please tell me there's a better way!
CalicoskiesNC replied to mamato2js's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I didn't purée anything. I ate soups and creamy, mushy things. Refried beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding, mashed veggies, cream of wheat. After my 2nd wk I got permission to move to soft mushy well chewed foods like pasta, eggs, baked tato, even chicken and ground beef. Just be sure to eat small well-chewed bites and measure portions so you don't overeat. -
That's wonderful you're doing so well weight loss wise! I don't know why eating would be a torture at almost three months out, so not sure what is happening to you other than you have to really start thinking about how to eat and planning your day out so you can eat enough and hit your food/water goals? Are you having specific issues like pain or difficulty swallowing or something? I was pretty much fine after the first month other than being sensitive to sugar (which was a good thing) and an intolerance for eggs until about 6 months out (just threw them up every time so stopped eating them until about 6 months out and it's good now). As time goes on, you will need to eat more, and you need to start eating real, whole foods. You need to be making your Protein and Water goals daily, and if you can't do it with the 3X daily meals, then you need to be adding in some snack times and getting in enough calories where your body isn't starving itself. You're still pretty early out, but at 600 calories daily, you're likely in a nutritional deficit that can't be healthy long term. Please do your best to start eating healthy Snacks (a cheese stick with a handful of almonds, a cup of low carb yogurt, some grapes and baby bel cheese wedges... ) There are tons of ideas on here and other bariatric recipe sites. Please discuss your difficulties and calorie intake with your doctor because this isn't healthy long term. And you will notice things like hair loss, exhaustion and muscle loss if you don't start eating a bit more and getting your protein and water in.

no 14 days of liquids after surgery?
McButterpants replied to mimorison's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon was very progressive in introducing foods - immediately, I could have yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, soft foods. When I returned home (I traveled out of area because I was self pay), my local doc was not as progressive and I had to go back to liquids. It was a little weird and at time frustrating. Everyone's post op diet and food introduction is different. I always suggest, however, that no matter what, you always follow YOUR doctor's/nutritionist's plan. -
no 14 days of liquids after surgery?
mimorison posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see that most people have 14 of liquids after surgery, my doctor diet is that after we are discharged we go to phase 3, soft foods lile cottage cheese, protein drinks, tuna w/ mayo, broth, greek yogurt...anyone else's doctor is the same? -
Your body is going through the changes of an intense work out.. you weren't losing because your muscles were building to burn more fat, this is a GREAT thing! I was expecting your post to say "I gained weight!" - which is very typical in this type of situation with intense workouts like boxing. (I kickbox myself.) I would recommend using protein smoothies to supplement your protein..you can make the same smoothie with as much protein as you want without altering the taste too much, especially if you're using greek yogurt like Fage 0% as base, which has 20 grams of protein, mixed with some protein powder (mine is 20 per scoop) add 2 scoops and you're already at 60 grams, plus 8 from the skim milk, etc.. it's a very easy and delicious way to boost your protein, stay full and stay cool during the summer time as well. Overall the chances are you probably weren't eating enough and/or your body was adjusting to the new routine, without seeing your food journal or what you've been eating, its hard to say. But I hope that helped, all the best to you!

Restriction? How Do You Jnow Youre There?
SueBee01 replied to Chiflado's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check your calorie intake with your exercise. I usually try to exercise away 3/4 of the calories I take in each day. Typically I eat 550 calories and exercise off 400 each day. It's working for me. Talk to your nutritionist. They will go over everything you are eating and let you know. They all have different programs. It took. Me several months to figure out what works for me. Also, you should not be throwing up! Keep in mind that yogurt alone is a slider, it will not make you feel full. If you are on mushies, that is ok. When I had my first fill I was told liquids for 2 days and then mushies for 2 days before returning to normal food. Your stomach has to adjust to the fill as it causes swelling. Try a Protein drink for the first couple days, then yogurt. If you continue to have problems, you need to get a small unfill. Best wishes! -
Restriction? How Do You Jnow Youre There?
Chiflado posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone I have a question. I had my surgery on June 4th starting weight was 264 it has been 4 months and I have only dropped to 244. Ire entry had my 3rd fill yesterday. Before I left the doctors office I needed them to take some out because I couldn't swallow Water let alone my on saliva. I actually threw up a little in the doctors office. So I had my doctor take some out and I felt better instantly. Anyways it's been 4 months little frustrated that I see all these individuals having these huge successes and I am not seeing anything. Can anyone let me know how do you know if you're starting to feel restriction? Today I had a little yogurt and practically felt it go down my stomach and come right back up.. Not sure if I should continue liquids today till I feel a little more comfortable. Be aide the two bites I did have did not feel good going down. Is this how restrictions could feel. Also a lot of people say signs of burping or hiccups are signs that let you know you're full. Well since surgery I wake up burping a d every now and then hiccups. Is this normal? Thanks guys just nee some motivation. Really have no one to talk to about this. -
Got a little snacky. Need recipes1
ProjectMe replied to Karess Haivala's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I found these crunchy edamame in the back of TJ Maxx . They totally help when I'm craving salty/crunchy. For sweet, I like to eat 3 tbs of trail mix...the raisins and yogurt chips satisfy that craving. The only thing is, I limit myself to two snack portions a day. I don't like the feeling of grazing all day. I also make quite a few recipes from World According to Eggface and freeze them into small portions. Definitely makes packing my work lunch easy. ETA: another idea for sweet, Lenny & Larrys Complete Protein cookie. But, only like 1/4 portion because while vegan, have a good amount of calories. My favorites are pumpkin spice and Peanut Butter and I gett them at Vitamin shoppe. -
March 20th- New to group and New to sharing

The bike riding only bothers my knee when I try to go up one of the many hills near my house. Not pain as much as I hear it "clicking" and I get off and walk it up I felt really good on the plane, was flying alone with my 8 year-old and just felt happy and capable of keeping up with her. I'm doing pretty well with my protein; I like Think Thin 20 g bars or Premier Protein 30 g shakes for my breakfast then have yogurt for a snack with grilled chicken breast or shrimp for lunch. Some more chicken (deli meat) usually for a snack and cheese or an egg in the afternoon then some other protein for dinner. I usually only have a snack later if I'm low on protein. My daughter recently became a vegetarian so I'm experimenting with meatless options. If you're on Facebook I'm in the group My Bariatric Kitchen - they have recipe ideas and other advice for getting in protein. I use MyFitnessPal to track my protein and have the same username if you want to friend me to see my diary. I've struggled with my water intake but am doing good today - 40 ounces so far. I have a desk job so the steps are harder to come by but hopefully I'll bike tonight. I'm going to try going back to the gym at work and use one of the trainers, just need to start off slow since I'm only at about 1000 calories too. Have fun camping!! Our family doesn't camp (yet) but I'm a Girl Scout leader and took our troop for an overnight in June that involved some hiking and was so happy I could keep up!! Looking forward to more adventures as I become more healthy!! -
How much do you eat for lunch and dinner?
tamg26k posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just curious how much everyone is eating for lunch and dinner. I don't know if I am eating too much or too little. I starting weighing the Protein (chicken, pork, turkey- my 3 main proteins) and eat about 3 oz. at each meal along with a little Greek yogurt or cottage cheese and a few edamame . Is that too big a serving of meat? I know I'm getting in my protein but just want to make sure I'm not eating too much. Don't want to stretch the pouch! -

alyce20 replied to tamg26k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now freaking out that I am eating too much! I was sleeved on August 27... I am now eating 1/3 cup of egg whites for breakfast... 2 hard boiled eggs for lunch... No yolk...a cheese stick or yogurt for snack and 1/2 cup of chicken or fish for dinner and veggie... Have I stretched my sleeve ? I also just added some peanut butter on celery for a snack...I don't feel that restricted feeling that I use to feel after a couple of bites but I just stop after I eat those amounts. Am I eating too much! -
Questions about diet after surgery...
Healthier2day1227 replied to LessofApril's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are right on track. I don't eat refined carbs either. But I do get carbs from fruit and beans. I eat either Greek yogurt or a scrambled egg for breakfast. Lunch either chili, chicken soup or a chicken breast on top of greens. Dinner I eat what I make for the family but not the starch. So if I make them turkey burgers, for example, I just eat the patty and tomato. If I have an evening snack it is usually fruit or string cheese. I often supplement with a protein shake if I'm low. I average about 900-1100 cal per day, 90 G protein and 40 g carb. I've lost 130 pounds and am 6 pounds from my personal goal. -
Amy ~ On my week of full liquids I was able to have approximately 6 ounces at each meal/snack. My doctor allowed me to include light-yogurt and pudding on the full liquids which was a big help. Are you allowed these? If so, try making a smoothie by mixing your protein shakes with yogurt. Other than that, hang in there its only for a week. Kiki ~ One week of clear liquids, poor thing! I only had clear on day one. Again another example of the differences between doctors. You hang in there too!

Uh.. So I admit, I've been watching for that crossover to the under-300# realm: Weight at start (mid-April): 345 Weight going into surgery (30 Jun): 306 Weight @ 1 day: 310 Weight @ 2 days: 304 (dropping about 0.5# every couple hours) Weight @ 3 days: 301 (just measured), 299.8 (lunch) I seem to be losing roughly 2-3# per DAY. At this rate, I'll cross the 300# mark by the time I finish Breakfast. [### EDIT: I went back to sleep, so the best I can say is that I crossed it before lunch...###] This is not an exaggeration: I dropped half a pound yesterday over the course of *consuming* 16oz of Water. Obviously I had 4# of Fluid pumped into me at surgery. I've obviously lost that.. but I didn't expect initial weight loss in the 3#/day range. Honestly, I feel fine overall.. just hungry, not weak. I'm able to consume (water, yogurt, soup .. overall about 300 calories, with plenty of Vitamin supplementation) without difficulty, as long as I don't gulp things down. This, too, seems normal. Am I just lucky, or is this rate of weight loss actually not unusual? I cannot account for it on a simple calories in/calories out model -- it's as if the surgery has told my body to shed a lot of fat up front. I suppose it could be extra energy requirements during healing, but still -- a factor of 3x seems extraordinary. No complaints, of course. I just haven't seen this magnitude of response reported here before.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to thank everyone for all the good information on these boards! I've been lurking for about a week & finally decided to post. All my paperwork has been forwarded to the doctor in Mexico & now it's a waiting game to see if I'm approved! I started a 'liquid' diet yesterday just to see if I could do it, 1 1/2 days in & it's not bad. I was going to go to Starbucks on my lunch break, I usually get a frappachino w/skim milk or a carmel macchiato w/skim milk, but on my way I decided I really didn't have any interest in one!! I'm trying to stick to Slim-Fast, Activia yogurt, eggs, lowfat string cheese, V8... Most of the posts have such a good vibe & everyone seems to be happy with their decision (at least the one's I'm choosing to read!) I look forward to becoming a 'sleeve sister' soon!!

I only had to pack lunch, I eat breakfast and dinner at home. My usual was either Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with a little nut butter or PB2, or a couple of slices of deli meat (roast turkey, roast beef etc.) and maybe a slice of cheese in a roll-up. I kept it very simple. I would also take a couple of protein shakes as snacks, to make sure I hit my protein goals for the day -- Premier Protein was my usual brand.
-
Mine is just with straight milk. Goes right on through in under 5 minutes. Drink the milk, hit the bathroom. I have no problem with yogurt or cheese. Cottage cheese is iffy for me. Sometimes it's okay, other times it's not. I just don't eat it much, maybe once every two months or so.

I have a quick question for those of you who are experiencing post-op lactose intolerance. Is it just with milk or is it with yogurt and cheese as well? What about almond milk? Just wondering. TIA.

Try these: Recipes for Pureed Foods - Entrees, Vegetables, and Salads I substitute for ingredients I don't have, like using yogurt or tofu instead of milk.

People all vary and so do the diets required by Dr's. I lost about 15 to 20 pre-op by following low cal/low fat for two weeks and then doing one week of two protein shakes, two Greek yogurts, and one protein bar daily. I did cheat occasionally on the liquid portion as my Dr only required low fat diet. I also started exercise, as I had read of people who lost little in the first couple months and wanted to at least get some weight off if I was going to fall in that category.

I am on a full liquid diet this week...so mostly blenderized soup, thinned out yogurt, thinned out oatmeal.....sfpudding, sf jello. Next week I will be on pureed foods. How about you? Have you started any exercise yet?

Feeling much better today. It seems that once I realize what the cause of my stress is...regardless of whether I can do anything about it... I feel better. Just knowing the cause it a relief!! So now I'm 6 days after my 2nd adjustment (well 2nd, 3rd & 4th) ... and I'm finally able to drink without pain. I'm still taking it slowly as far as eating is concerned. Egg salad, tuna salad, cottage cheese, yogurt etc. Keeping it soft just in case. I am in love with shadybrook farm turkey meatballs!!! As an italian with the mac daddy meatball recipe... I highly approve of these. They are nothing like MY meatballs, but as far as turkey products are concerned...they are GREAT!!! They have a little bit of spice, but just enough to make it interesting. The texture is great too. They are pretty low calorie vs beef products and they have a good amount of protein!!! They have been my "go-to" protein source!! Also, Jennie-O hot dogs are fabulous. A regular hot dog has about 170 calories each!! These have only 70 and taste just like a beef hot dog without the greasiness. And in my area... a package of the Jennie-O hot dogs is only $1!!! Crazy right?? Butterball makes a great Turkey Kielbasa too...that is awesome on the grill!! Shadybrook farms has good Sweet and Hot italian sausage... it's not bad. The texture isn't quite like pork sausage, but it's pretty decent!! Anyone else have any secret foods they'd like to share???

First Trip To Trader Joe's
mparkersmith replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some of my favorite groceries from Trader Joe's: --Steamed lentils (already cooked, just heat and eat, in refrigerated section) - I use these all the time, they have high Protein, great in salads or as a side. --Teeny tiny potatoes - perfect size for us sleevers! In produce section. --Thai Spicy Peanut salad dressing - a little goes a long way, divine w/ lentils! --chicken Tika Masala, and pretty much ALL of their Indian foods are scrumptious --Frozen garlic Naan --Frozen Turkey meatballs - I eat these all the time! Heat up 2 meatballs in a covered dish w a little chicken broth to keep em moist. --mini party-size meatballs - a bit higher in fat/calories than the turkey --Fresh buffalo mozzarella sticks --California Estate Olive Oil- cheap, good quality --Nonfat Greek yogurt in Mango, blueberry, and pumpkin (when in season!) --Unsweetened vanilla almond milk --Thai noodle salad (many other fabulous salads in refrigerated section) ...seriously, I could go on and on and on! Love Trader Joe's! -
Will i ever be able to eat dairy products if i cant handle it now
Oregondaisy replied to melodydelayne's topic in The Gals' Room
I was very lactose intollerant at first. It probably lasted 2 years. I could eat cheese and yogurt but not milk or ice cream. Now, I am not nearly as bad. I can have a small amount of milk without getting gas pains and diarrhea.
