Maybe a TMI question but i need to know
kurby posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm very new here and have looked but can't figure out where to put this question so please move it if this is the wrong spot. I've decided to get the band done but not until August. we're going away for the month of July and having it done the second week of Aug would give me 3 weeks to recover before i have to head back to work in Sept. my problem is that my AF is very unpredictable because of my weight and i've never had surgery before so what happens if AF comes at the time of my surgery date? does this interfere with getting it done or do we just go ahead? sorry for the TMI and thanks for answering. -
Question before I try my doctor
Syrah replied to JackSpratsWife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have some occasional pain on my left side right below my rib cage. Usually it means I'm getting a bit constipated (sorry, TMI). I do eat a lot of cheese so that's probably the culprit. Are you getting all your fluids in? Try a stool softener or Milk of Magnesia. I was banded the same day as you. -
Dumping...with the sleeve?
Hidden from view posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Without giving TMI, not only did I spew, but I was trapped in the bathroom for an HOUR. I ate a meringue with cream and the effect was immediate!!! Never again. -
I'm having gas pains from my surgery and while its nowhere near as bad as when I had a C-section, I'm not overly comfortable. I'm taking a gas X chewable regularly and it does seem to be helping, but the box says not to go over 6 per day. I haven't been keeping track of how many I take. How many did you guys take each day? (TMI notice!!) On a brighter note, some of the gas is coming out and earlier today, I had the most amazing fart ever in my life!!! LOL Gosh it felt so good! :yikes:

Possible TMI question about preop diet
Who'sThere posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, so today is day 9 of my ten day preop diet. I have been on BC pills continuously (the active pills) for six months to keep me from having a period because I had one non stop from before Halloween to after Christmas. Today, I have had some spotting. Do y'all think this has anything at all to do with the preop diet, either the sudden calorie restriction or the diarrhea that comes along with the all liquids? (I know that when I am on my period, I tend to have diarrhea.) Or do you think it is just a coincedece? Has anyone experienced anything similar? -
happens to me when i eat too fast, which sadly has happened 3 times. you have a pressure in your chest - feels kinda like you ate a brick, and then you feel like you have to burp or something. you try to pull up a burp but instead, it's mucousy "slime." not pleasant, and the times it's happened to me, I've had to induce vomiting to ease pressure.. I dont have to use my finger (tmi, yall) just keep doing that "burp/suck" thing and it keeps coming out for up to an hour. NOT fun. you'd think I'd learn, but I have 6 kids and dinner time is crazy time around hereand i HATE hate hate hate eating slow. well maybe 3 hates for eating slow, and 4 for overeating.

Today I was able to .....
MS_Science_Sleever posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
cross my legs for the first time in I don't know when. Years and years maybe. And I purchased some new underwear - 2 sizes smalled. Maybe TMI, but to me it is a big deal. -
Is/Has anyone had problems with constipation? I'm three weeks out, drinking plenty of fluids, but it's not helping. I'm still eating very little (about 500 calories a day) so I'm not expecting normal poops, but I wasn't expecting to have such trouble going either! Suggestions? I know I can have Beans in the diet phase I'm in. Maybe I just need to have some every day. Ick. Meg

Still Suffering..and A Little Scared?!?! *bowel Issues*
MGM replied to TMyers1471's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Horrible and tmi, but I can't WAIT to have some constipation and be more on the normal side. I go 3+ times a day. IBS, anxiety, and food doesn't agree with me since I was AT LEAST in 2nd grade! So hoping I will go from 3+ per day to every other day! Lol -
Bowel Movements - TMI !

And @AngelaZ, you are nowhere near the edge of TMI-land around here! -
Im hungry. I do a shake and an hour and half later I'm starving. My blood sugar is also getting really low which makes me hungry. I believe I'm going to have to back off the diabetes meds now. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow to sign consents...and I BET I haven't lost any weight. I feel bloated and TMI I'm PMSing. Not a good time to get on the scale. Maybe he won't be too upset. I'm not having surgery til June so that gives me some time to loose some weight. They said to shoot for 10lbs. Just enough to get my liver in shape apparently. I would, however, like to loose more pre-op. Rant over Hi! May I suggest some strategies for this PreOP step? First of all, you are trying to shrink your liver. Dr told me not to worry about losing at this point, just get 60-80g Protein in each day and to avoid carbs and sugars, but drink lots of Water. I use Propel, and Powerade Zero to fill in between my bottled water, and am getting about 64-70 oz in daily. I have lost some weight without trying. I started at 223, 218 when I got my PreOP diet, and am now at 215. I suppose I will be about 210 at surgery. I would make sf Jello, put your nonfat cot cheese in it--tastes great with lime, cherry, orange, etc. I also got sf popsicles, and also eat lean fish and chicken. I did eat a burger patty tonite and blotted all the fats away from it. I put some plain horseradish on it. I use pepper to flavor with. My protein supplements are Premier and Muscle Milk light that I got at costco. Those taste very good. You mix with water the Muscle Milk. I got Premier premixed shakes to carry with me when I am out on errands, etc. I try to vary what I eat as much as I can to break the monotony of the diet. As is, the diet is cut and dry. Mine is revision surgery, so am being extra careful with this and the whole phase of my journey. If you are low in sugars, do not take any more pills or insulin as that would just make you drop dangerously low. Also, make sure you take your vitamins--a multi, Calcium, B12 sublinguals, vit D3(this absorbs the calcium). My thinking is you may not be getting enough liquid in your diet. I hope this helps! Good luck!

1 week Post Op!
ambersterling replied to donatelife36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved this past Thursday, so today I am 4 days out. I am still having a lot of trouble swallowing. Feels like a golf ball every time. Also, they gave me a suppository in the hospital bc I was in SO much pain from gas. So now I have (sorry TMI) liquid diarrhea. Did any of you have any of these issues? I am worried about dehydration. I am on full liquids, so I'm trying to drink skim milk along with water and some zero calorie electrolyte drinks like Powerade Zero and Gatorade. Haven't attempted a protein shake yet. -
LOL AS TMI as this was.... I laughed! I was at WalGreens once and someone stunk up the WHOLE back area by the bathrooms.... It was so bad people were gaging when they walked by!

Fluids and Fiber - TMI story but important
Bornagainbabe replied to DownInSocal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can identify with that but not as bad as you fortunately. I have even had my fingers up there (TMI I know but it's true and definitely not recommended) to get it out and bled a bit afterwards. I take Benefiber now which I think is the same sort of thing as you are taking and it really helps keep me regular and strain-free (I can't afford to strain as have had hernia and ab surgery as well)! Hope you are feeling much better now. Bet it felt like you were passing a rubgy ball didn't it?! Helenxxx -

On the day of my surgery, January 14th, 2013, I was morbidly obese with a BMI over 50. I was suffering from horrific knee pain and was seriously looking at spending my life in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk more than a block without having to sit and rest. I couldn’t do the simplest of things like put on socks, or pick up my legs to shave them in the shower. I knew I was probably done traveling. I had just been on a cruise where I couldn’t get off the ship because of the pain I was in. I was wearing 4X tops and 26/28 slacks. I knew I was going to have to buy clothes online soon because I was growing out of these sizes and even places like Avenue didn’t carry sizes much bigger. The larger I got, the more invisible I felt. I worried about being able to move in spaces that were no longer big enough for me. I made sure to get to the conference room at work before anyone else so I didn’t have to bring unwarranted attention to myself by forcing my colleagues to squeeze in just so I could pass them if I couldn’t get a seat near the door. I worried about restaurants with tight seating…airplanes with narrow seats and the looks from whoever was stuck sitting next to me. Oh God…just thinking about this even now makes me so very sad and hurt because the list of painful and embarrasing situations is a long one. That, however, was before my surgery. Today is my two year bandiversary and during those two years, I have lost around 150 lbs. That’s an amazing amount of excess weight to carry around on a very small frame. No wonder I was so uncomfortable. Today, I feel light as a feather. I can move normally again. As many of you know, I needed my hips replaced even before dealing with my knees. Turns out that my knees are fairly stable now as there is no excess weight to put unnecessary pressure on the joints. I can do all those things healthy people take for granted. I can walk anywhere and everywhere, I can cross my legs like a woman should be able to do, I can go up and down stairs…..hell, I can open my legs again and feel that marvelous weight of a man on top of me (sorry if that’s TMI but we're all adults here and sex is an important part of life that I thought was also in my past) Most of all…I fit in the world again and because I fit, the world has opened back up to me. After 20+ years, I'm wearing petites again. I'm in small sized tops and size 6 slacks. My legs aren't tree trunks anymore and I'm wearing dresses. And just an FYI for you ladies…If you want to attract a man, wear a dress. Works like a charm.. I love to clothes shop again. In these small sizes, the clothes are cute and pretty and I don't buy anything anymore just because it fits. I wear makeup again. My hair is styled attractively. I match the jewelry/bag/shoes to the outfits. Like I said above, I am very much aware now that people notice me. What an amazing transformation that is. To know that people see you again is such a powerful feeling….especially when you've felt invisible for so long. I’m traveling again. In fact, I’m planning a trip to China or now possibly a Nordic cruise to Finland and Norway sometime later this year. I hope to go on one big trip every year. There are so many places I didn't think I'd ever get to and now I need to make up for lost time and go wherever my heart desires. My grandson is due in April. I’ll be able to play with this one. My granddaughter missed out on a lot because I couldn’t keep up with her. She and I did a lot of arts and crafts, and reading books together or watching TV. I’m sure she didn’t feel like she missed anything but I know she did and this time around, Grandma is planning on climbing the monkey bars with this little guy when he gets old enough. One last thing I wanted to put out there. I must thank Alex for creating this site. It has been my salvation. The people here were and are, instrumental in my success. I have said things in my posts that no one outside of this place can truly understand and for that I am so very grateful. I am also blessed to call many of the folks on this site good friends of mine and I can’t wait to meet some of you face to face so I can give you a big hug. Here’s how I feel today..and most days in fact….I’m a person with two birthdays now. One in August of 1958 when I was born, and one in January of 2013 when I was re-born. For anyone reading this post, congrats if you have also found success in your weight loss journey and to those struggling, or who are pre-op and full of doubts and worries, know that a new life is possible for each and every one of you. I'm not special so if I could do this, so can you...no matter what your co-morbidities, starting BMI, or any other challenges you are facing. Here's a couple of before/after pics so you can see what 150 lbs. gone looks like. The ticker is just data but a picture is worth a thousand words as they say.

Another band problem.
SuzanneG replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Warning - may be TMI - I had food poisoning once when I was young. I threw up continuously for a week. Once I emptied my stomach of all food and liquid, I graduated to black throw up. It looked like asshes and Water to me, then on to yellow stuff that looked like Chinese mustard. I was told that the black and yellow stuff was the lining of my stomach and bile (sp?). I think if you were throwing up blood it would be RED, not black. Black blood is blood that has been in the intestinal tract for a long time. For instance if you were passing black stool, it would be possible that you have an ulcer high in the intestines, if you pass red blood in stool, probably a roid. Not sure if this info is helpful, but it's all I've got. Let us know what the doc tells you. Hope you're feeling better and don't leave there without a perscription for anti-nausea meds. -
crazy questions about constipation and such...
MEJONES replied to MEJONES's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
mango24, thanks for the quick reply. i have put miralax in my drinks but didn't result in any movement. when you use metamucil everyday, how often do you go? i usually go about every 4 or so days and then it's like concrete. i have used enemas the last couple of times but the only thing that shoved it through, painfully i might add, is milk of magnesia. sorry, it's tmi! -
I have a really bad stomach flu. Any ideas about what to do abou the throwing up?
Hoosier Tom replied to saravalintine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to do one of two things. Get somewhere and get the vomiting stopped and/or get the band unfilled ASAP. If you continue to heave and not get anything up you risk a couple of things. First, you risk the obvious possibility of displacement of the band, and second, you risk the possibility of a bowel obstruction, which can lead to septic shock, and if enough pressure is placed on the bowels, can lead to a perforated bowel. Don't ask me how I know. I just went through this a little over a month and a half ago. Had a major intestinal virus hit me, started heaving, couldn't get anything up but thought I might be able to ride it out thinking it wouldn't last long. I wound up in the ER with a bowel obstruction, stomach and intestines triple the size they should've been, and on the operating room table at midnight facing emergency surgery. The first thing the doc did as they wheeled me into the ER was stick a huber needle in my gut to drain the band, then down the hatch with a N-G tube to get the pressure off the upper side. I was in the hospital for a week after surgery to relieve the obstruction. Long story short, it ain't worth it to heave with no hurling. Get some Phenergan or other powerful anti-hurling drug, keep it in stock, but also have you a fast escape route planned to get yourself to your doc fast in case you have to get that band drained. Hope this helps, sorry for the TMI, but I lived it and I darn near died (per my doctor). -
Hello everyone.... I had my surgery on Dec 28th. I am 6 days post op and literally feel like im starving. I am drinking water and getting down one protein shake but for the last 2 days hunger pains are out of this world!!! Is this normal i am scheduled to be on a liquid-diet for 3 weeks and i didnt expect to feel like im starving 6 days post op. Its hard to get down3 protein shakes because the taste isnt the greatest since i had the surgery but i am concerned for another reason. I came home sunday from the hospital not feeling the greatest but not the worst, Monday i woke up and felt like i needed to have a bm.... I took miralax to see if my bowels would move but nothing happened all day on Monday. I woke up Tuesday and the constipation was worst and i literally felt like dying considering i hadnt had a bm since last Thursday Dec 27th. I was on the toilet off and on all day straining moaning sweating and trying to push it out but nothing would come out but a small turd. I felt like i was on fire(bottom) and it hurt soooooooooooo bad. I finally called the physicians office and they suggested milk of magnesia or dulcolax. I took milk of magnesia and like anything it takes time to work thru the system and i was soooo desperate and wanted the pain in my butt to stop and to get my bowels to move because it was literally sitting on tip of my exithole(sorry for being so graphic) but i just couldnt poop. I pushed and strained all day thinking i could get it to come out one of my small incisisons started bleeding and my biggest my incision is now bruised and more painful since this fiasco with constipation. Well needless to say i thought i would help speed upthe milk of magnesium and took a stool softner(gel cap) and my lower stomach hasnt been the same. The last 2 days my lower stomach has been bubbly, churning, gassy, and i feel like i have diarhea at times but when i go to the toilet its alot of gas but it feels like im about to poop on myself. I finally had my first bmi on Wednesday at about 4am . I was scared as hell to push but i had to a little and it finally oozed out(sorry i know tmi) but i felt better and was able to finally walk straight because on Monday and Tuesday i was walking hunched over like a lil old lady due to pain and just trying to find comfort from the constipation. I am worried if i have done damage to my pouch and my biggest incision. If anyone else has had constipation problems please share and any suggestions on dealing with my hunger pains which i didnt think i would have 6 days post-op i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for listening!!! I am not having regrets just want my sleeve to work to the max and to be successful!!! Have a blessed Thursday!!!

Hey everyone I was banded July 29th and (knock on wood) things are going just great! My surgery was a breeze and I have experienced very little pain. The gas has been minimal, and I am peeing all the time! My question is... when will I have a BM? My Dr did not give me a stool softener but his nurse did ask me if he had. Why on earth would I need a stool softener when all I am consuming is liquid? My DH said why would you go if you haven't eaten anything but we all know & have probably been there. You still go.... it's just liquid! (TMI right! ) So... when did you all have your first BM post op? It's not out of fear or pain that I don't go either (like after you have a baby!) It's just not there! I'm not uncomfortable, just used to being VERY regular and I haven't had a BM since before the surgery. Other than that I could not be happier. Ok, maybe a little happier if I could have something besides broth and Jello but I'll live until I get to the mushies! Thanks in advance for all your insight!

I think it depends on the individual , not the age. I am 46 was done on tues and don't even feel as though I have had surgery. I had mild pain for the first 24 - 48 hours but nothing now(except period pains and thats altogether another matter, far worse than the op). Sorry if that's TMI! Was nauseous the first couple of days but soup seems to have solved that. I wake up not hungry which is great. Am slowly sipping an instant breakfast at the moment. Normally by now I would have eaten stacks and still be hungry. I don't think I am managing all the drinks as well as the food - it is just sooo much liquid.I find that I am satisfied at the moment but I do need the soup etc. I also find I am hungrier at the end of the day than the beginning. My homemade soup tastes so much better than the preop stuff. I am eating slowly but still worry a little that maybe I am eating faster than I am supposed to - it is difficult to judge. I am able to sleep on my side with no discomfort and can drive short distances without a problem. I have been lounging around the house lots doing nothing much as I don't want to push it. I was wondering if those of you that were done early this week have taken your dressings off already? I am supposed to take them off but am a bit nervous about it, especially the port one. Once you take them off do you leave them as they are or have you put a fresh dressing on?Just wondering what is best.

Got my date: January 21st
kathy0529 replied to Fatdiva14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Fatdiva14 me, too! Surgery ended up being 2 hours later than scheduled which was a bummer. Had a breakdown when they said we were ready. I am completely exhausted and the nausea has been my biggest problem. I have to say that the nurses at my hospital are amazing! Sorry for the tmi, but when I'm upright, I get nauseous and then I dry heave, but it's cause of the gas and then I burp and its a little better. No vomiting. I'm sipping Water and am getting ready to do a 2nd walk. I have to drink 2 8 ounce Protein Drinks in order to get discharged so I plan on starting at 5 or 6 am so I can get out. Hope you are doing well.
