  1. Today was my 1st fill in 10months. Long story, but ready to lose these last 30, that I've had in a year. I've 102 lbs. in 2yrs. The last stretch is hard, and I'm so committed to go forth. I guess my struggle is finding my balance after a fill. You lose a good 10 after the 7days of liquids but as soon as I eat solids, I go back to where I weighed before the band going nowhere. That's with heavy excerise. I'm going to start a food diary, and see what's happening.

Bubbles & Delarla go to TJ

Jeanie, thanks for taking care of me today. I made it all day without leaving the house. Hubby is whining that he wants me to go to bed now. I usually go to bed at 10 cuz if I go earlier, I'm up to early. But he's nagging, "when's the last time you had a good night sleep?" So time to brush my teeth and hit the hay. We have constant air conditioning wars at home. My office is the coldest, so I freeze all summer. When it's 123 outside I sit in my office with a space heater on because my office gets all the cold air, so co-workers are warm while I'm frozen. But my husband works outside in the heat so he melts all day. He wants the house freezing, I want to thaw out. I think it was 105 today and I'm still in my socks & long sweats. Dork. Good night. Thanks again for being there.
  3. I'm not all that happy, but I was ready for less weight loss during the mushy phase. I saw my nutritionist today-lost 1 pound in the last week and a half!!! argh! Two weeks post surgery I had lost 10! Iknow not to be frustrated, and I go in for my first fill tomorrow, so..I posted earlier that I had been feeling hungrier, and as if I can eat more now. I'veread So many posts like this, I really shouldn't be even writing this, but I just needed to vent, y'all! Upping my Water and Protein should help-at least I didn''t gain, right? I'll try and remain positive!..
  4. 19 days out and in hell!! Ended up having a second surgery to remove scar tissue, have been admitted twice back to the hospital for throwing up, and I've only lost ten pounds. I'm nauseous and dry heve if I eat anything, I'm still in pain and wishing I never did this. Tell me it gets better???

    2 Days Post Sleeve

I'm about 10 wks out and feeling great! The first few days, first week can be a royal pain in the #$%!!! Take smaller sips, basically get tiny bit of fluid in your mouth and llet it slide down your throat. Took me awhile, because I realized I was a gulper. Just keep sipping. The gas hurts, belly sore, but, I had to really push myself to get up and walk. Even for a few minutes at a time. I, did this as often as possible. It really helped! Hang in there, rest when you need to, walk when you don't want, and cherish this journey!!!

    tipping in MX?

Tipped driver 10 each way. Tipped the bell boy 5 each way. Tipped room service 3 each time I ordered. Never saw cleaning people. Tipped restaurant staff 3 each meal/broth and spouses food. I took 100 in 1$s!! Having 1's was key and I used less then 30 for tipping! Used 25-30 for souvenirs.... 25-30 for retina a cream(anti wrinkle) and momason (tightened cream) for saggy skin the nurse there told me to get!

    Dumping Syndrome

I’m only 10 days post op and yesterday I had my first experience of dumping syndrome. It was awful, the stomach cramps, hot and cold, everything really took its tole on me. Today I’ve woken up and I’m feeling low and deflated like I’ve made a huge mistake. Everything was going so well in my recovery and now I feel like it’s all a mistake. I’m trying so hard to pick myself up but just feel like hiding away and crying. Had anyone else felt like this?

    quitting smoking

Annie I know just what your going through I was told I had to be smoke free for 3 months before surgery my last one was 01-3-13 I took chantix for 3 weeks and it really helped me get over that initial hump but now that I'm on low carb diet the last 10 days I've been having that nagging craving. I've found that electronic cigarettes help me. My surgeon allows you to use them so you may want to ask and try those it took a few brands until I found one I liked.

    Questions?

I have completed my 6 months of medically supervised weight loss. I am weighting for my tax return so that I can go to the exercise specialist, dietician, and nutritionist. I still need to see the psychologist. I will more than likely have to go through pre-op testing again because I last did some of it on August 26. So I am really worried that this is all too good to be true right now. So with that being said, how much longer do you think it would be until I can schedule my surgery? Or at least, can anyone tell me if they were near the point that I am right now, how long it took them? I didn't think I would ever get to this point. I am really wondering though, I am currently 5'9" and I am flirting with 340lbs. I have a larger bone structure and I was wondering what a good size for me to shoot for would be. I kept saying I would love to be a size 10, but I'm wondering if that's too little. I currently wear a 24, sometimes 26 pants, and a 3x top. I also know that everyone is different. My sister had the gastric bypass back in 2000, and she was a 5x, she got down to a size 18 and looked unhealthy. I am worried that I will do that too. Any input will help right now! This is just all over the place, but I was practically typing what I was thinking at the time! Sorry!

    1st Fill!!

Good morning First fillers. Always remember that after a fill to do your liquids and soft foods for a couple of days. For some reason the band takes time to adjust. I have had 6 fills, different amounts 1.5,1.0, &.5. total of 6.5 cc in a 10 cc. Every thing goes down fine wth the liquids. For me the change always comes on day 6,7, or 8. The restriction is there, it could be from jsut getting back to regular foods that after the liquids yu have atendency to forget how to eat and chew after only a 4 day hiatus. I have sen somepeople that it took two weeks for the restriction to set in. Everyone is different. Main thing give it time, dont push those tough foods, Restriction is good, I lose my most lbs in the two weeks right after a new fill. As long as I and my tummy is losing fat the inside silicone band will loosen each time. So relax and follow the rules. This is journey learn the right way. They may do the barium and the FLouro scope on your first fill to make sure the restriction is there and to hit the port on the first stick. Sorta neat to watch. Good luck remember to take notes in your journal or food log on how things went and how you feel.

    anorexia and the band

Leena, I too went through this about 9mths ago. I am just over 2 yrs out and I had a horrible time getting in enough calories. I would consume about 600-700 calories a day and I was so weak but no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't force myself to eat. My situation lasted for about 4.5 months and I was withering down to nothing. I went and talked to my surgeon and he referred me to the nutritionist and removed about half of the fill I had. At the time I had 6cc's in a 10 cc band, I never threw up and nothing really got stuck I just couldn't eat, no appetite. I too felt like an anorexic, and that was NOT the reason I got the band. So my suggestion to you is to see your doctor and have some Fluid removed. Maybe go see a nutritionist to make up a daily eating plan for you if the fear of gaining weight back is a serious concern, it was for me. Since I started seeing the nutritionist I have since regained control over food and feel great. I have even had fluid added back to my band and have since maintained a healthy weight for myself. I hope this helps and good luck!

    Newly Banded

My doctor gave me the okay to start cardio exercise 1 week post-op. She told me to go ahead and start slow enough that I could hold a regular conversation with someone while on the treadmill or walking without needing to take deep breaths or gasp for air. 10-15 minutes to start, 1-2 times a day. Stop if you feel uncomfy, just listen to your body. More vigorous exercise that use your abs or include high intensity workouts or lifting weights shouldn't happen until at least 6 weeks post-op, or until you're given the okay by your doctor. But during the next 5 weeks, if you feel good enough, you can increase your cardio time to 30minutes at a time. Check with your doctor first, of course, but this is just what my doc told me! Hope everything goes well!

    question please answer. I'm scared

I had sleep apnea & had to do a sleep study prior to surgery. My last sleep study was over 10 years ago. Because I had sleep apnea, a current study was mandatory. Your jitters are normal. The EGD is a piece of cake. Believe me, when it's all said and done, you will love your sleeve. Good luck & keep us posted.
  18. I'm pre surgery, have been for near 10 years as NHS Scotland don't make it easy but I decided to watch the above show and I'm boiling mad. He gets surgery, and totally ignores the rules and guidance given by his team - his mum has had same surgery and is letting him eat pizza, sweets and coke less than 3 months out of surgery!! I'm no saint and will make mistakes as probably everyone has done no matter how well you follow the rules but for the love of all things holy why!!!!! If I was his insurance company I would be billing him for not following insurance rules. Beiling mad!!! Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????
  19. The time draws nigh! Any last minute suggestions to help make my journey a more comfortable one? I've read the threads, made the list, going shopping tonight and I'm cleaning the house today. Liquidy foods are frozen, mushies are in there, too. My Lortab elixir is sitting right here on my desk. Tomorrow! 24 hours from now I will be one of the few, the proud, the banded! Darr
  20. Ok, this is totally TMI but I need help. I had surgery on 3/19, and up to 10 days ago I was doing fine. I lost over 50 lbs and I feel great most of the time. I can eat almost everything by now (of course, no sugar, no fat, no carbonated drinks and no alcohol) but the past few days I've been really constipated. I never had problems like this before, on the contrary, if you know what I mean. I eat plenty of fruit (i admit I've been a little lazy with vegetables, eating only once a day), and every time I have to go is a struggle. I go days without having to go. Can anyone help? By 4 months post op I only lost 37lbs! I am a slow loser also. But things add up I'm the long run because at 10 months post op I'm about 90lbs down .

  23. My surgery is a week from today and I woke up with a totally sore throat.....it's almost swollen shut. No fever or any other symptoms I am praying it's allergies. I called my surgeon's office today and OF COURSE didn't get a call back. I know most times surgery can't be done when you are sick but I also don't want to take my medicine since I was supposed to be off everything except my blood pressure meds 10 days before surgery After working so hard to get to this point since last May I do not want to be denied last minute!! Anyone know if it's okay for me to take allergy/cold meds? or any natural remedies okay for me to do? I am on the liver shrink diet so didn't want to even try honey
  24. I am so frustrated.....I need to vent so here it goes.... I started this process in July. Being that my BMI is greater than 50, the 6mo weight loss program was waived. I submitted all of my information at the end of July to my surgeons office- OSU. I went to an informational seminar on August 5th. First appointment with the center on August 31st along with the psych evaluation on August 30th. On September 30th I had an EGD. On October 9th my information was submitted to BCBSM for pre approval for the sleeve surgery. October 9th and 16th I had my dietiatian classes for life after surgery. On Ocotber 29th and three times before that I had contacted BCBSM to verify they had all of my information they needed to preapprove me. Finally on the 29th I was told that I was pre approved for the inpt hospital stay and the procedure itself. Being so exicted I called my surgeons office to notify my insurance case worker. He stated that he hadn't recieved anything and he would contact them. After playing phone tag between him and BCBSM for over 5 hours he finally got ahold of a real person at BCBSM who notified him that I had not been pre approved for the procedure, that they never had a precertification form or paper work for the surgery itself, just the inpatient hospital stay. The lady at BCBSM told him he sent the info to the wrong fax number and gave him another to refax everything to. She then informed him that it would take up to another 30 business days for approval - this all occured on 10/29-10/30. So my information was resubmitted on the 29th of October. I have been in contact with BCBSM several times since and they will not give me any information, other than the fact that it is not them (BCBSM) that requires preapproval for the surgery- it is the physicans office. BCBSM only requires preapproval for the hospital stay. They keep telling me that the providers office will have to contact the provider inquiry line for that information. My insurance worker, who I'm sure is sick of me, will rarely answer my phone calls and rarely return them. I have left multiple messages. It has been well over 30 business days since my information was submitted. I believe if I don't hear from him by tommorow I will be in contact with his office manager....If they don't help me I will be finding a new surgeon. I have invested so much into OSU's program I really don't want to go somewhere else. I feel as though I have been very patient, I have had all my requirements met since the end of september. I love the office and physicans but I have had nothing but a horrible experience with the insurance cordinator.....BCBSM has not very helpful in the communication department either.....I feel as though I have slipped through the cracks. Anyone else have this similar issue and if so what did you do to resolve it?
  25. Best guess: Plan on losing 10-15 pounds the first month, and 6-8 pounds a month after that.. and the scale will pretty much stop at 160-180lbs. (Once it stops you'll have to work extra hard for additional losses). If you lose faster, it's gravy, but keep expectations low so you aren't disappointed.
