The One Thing No One Tells You About Losing Weight
CowgirlJane replied to WL WARRIOR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wouldn't have done it but I was "under" anyway due to breast revision. They actually dont use much fat at all, so you don't need to have much to do this and it came from my inner thigh.. I had it done with other procedures so cost was low. Quote I got stand alone was 1200 by a Seattle plastic surgeon. It lasts longer, for most people, than juvaderm etc. I asked doc about doing lipo around my waist etc..and he said, nope, I dont have excess fat, it's my muscles and the only way to further reduce loose skin is upper body lift or the vertical/anchor cut - and we both agreed totally not worth it. The mistake I made in all this is that my upper inner thighs had gotten worse over time. I had weird cellulite pockets there that were vastly improved with the small thigh lift, but over the 2 years, it was worse again. Thighs do that.. Anyway Dr was hopeful he could do some lipo and very small skin removal - not a full thigh lift. When I came out of recovery, he told me it hadn't gone well and he had to do alot more than expected to get decent results. Then, I had a complication. I don't blame the doc, I blame me. I should have not gotten greedy and pursued it. Recovery has been hell, I have had a recent setback, had to cancel my MAui trip...etc. -
How long did it take for you to heal?
iamshazza replied to Wendydarling19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was back to work in a week after my band to sleeve revision and also had gallbladder out. Not a whole lot of pain for me either after the first few days. I work in the office 3 days a week and I work at home 2 days. Also desk job. I could've taken more time but didn't really feel Like I needed it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
@@Kaila312 I am 3 years out, and I KNOW that my stomach is stretched. I haven't had an UGI, but I already know what it would show. I rarely overeat, and 90% of the time I maintain small portions and low calories. I do not get the same full sensation as I did post op. I was always one who could eat a little more than others, though clearly I couldn't eat a lot. I still have to weigh and measure my food. On the occasions where I indulge, I don't weigh/measure (these occasions are not frequent) I estimate I can eat about 2 cups. That is no where near as much before surgery, but it's certainly enough to allow enough food and calories to gain quickly. I miss the early days when 1/2 cup was enough. It was a lot easier to stay on track. That said, I haven't gained a significant amount of weight, but I gained 2 pounds during a 4 day vacation in September, and another 4 over the holidays. It scares me out of my mind, and I'm working to get it off, but it's stubborn. I am not going to let it get away from me, but it's really all up to me, now. I think I have 75% my effort, and about 25% help from the sleeve, since hunger is back but not like before surgery. I suspect some day, it will be. I keep thinking I need a "tweak" but my doc doesn't do revisions. Honestly, I don't want another surgery, so I just keep fighting the fight, just like people of a near normal weight who have to watch what they eat. I will be anxious to hear what your surgeon says.

You May Be More Successful Than You Think....

Oh, do me, do me. I was just commenting on a fb sleeve forum the other day at how dissapointed I was only losing 22 lbs in 4 mths. Someone then told me I had lost 50% of my excess weight in 4 mths (22 lbs to goal - started lower at 174 - was a band revision). Here's my stats (I'd do it myself but I eeked out a C in college algebra and barely passed college stats): SW: 248 CW: 152 GW: 130 -
Hi. I had a lap band and then revised to sleeve. Lost over 100 lbs with band and then 40 something more with sleeve. I have to have a revision due to gerd and other complications from my sleeve. Luckily, I did not lose any of my hair on either procedures listed above... And I know losing weight is much slower after each revision so maybe I'll be lucky again this time around. I was wondering if any of you lost your hair after revising from sleeve to bypass. Thank you in advance.

My RNY was a revision from a band too. Done on 6/11

Hi I’m new to this thread. I had a sleeve revision to bypass on 6/18 and hate clears. I feel I want substance like stage 2. I’m hungry perhaps because I haven’t been cleared to start protein shakes yet. Anyone else feeling hungry ?

Can I get the sleeve at the same time my band is taken out?
janarae replied to marfar7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band in for just under 2 years and had it removed and time if sleeve. Best thing ever, good luck to you! Revision 1/31/13 by Dr Cabrera and Venezuela in MX -
how much cup size did you lose after a breast lift (not a reduction)?
Travelher replied to Travelher's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
so 10 weeks post op and I'm still wearing the same bras I did before my lift, they just fit better. However, I am going to need a revision of the lift, so with a second lift I would imagine that it is probable I will lose another size. -
Presbyterian Healthcare will only cover the surgery at a "Center of Excellence" and there aren't any in NM. I had the choice of 2 in El Paso or one in Colorado. I went with the one in El Paso because they have an office here and the Drs come in from El Paso frequently to do seminars and follow ups. A friend of mine had a revision to sleeve at Lovelace here, I wish I could stay in town.

they told me that they revise on a case by case basis, but only if there is a problem with the band. ...now I don't want to "wish" for something to be wrong with my band, but . . . -

Greetings Everyone! Has anyone heard of a Kaiser patient getting a revision from Band to Sleeve? I got my band at Richmond (boo-hiss) and transferred my care to So SF. They're much much better, but I was pretty much told to make an appointment with a mortuary if I had a revision. I'd appreciate any news. Thanks -

Nope, I'm nothing special. The band interferes with equipment I wear at work - plain and simple. They know bypass works for everyone who gets it. End of story. I wanted the sleeve originally because of my concerns regarding having a foreign object in my body, but Richmond told me they don't do the surgery (a lie obviously). I really just need to hear from someone - anyone - out there who has had the revision surgery through norcal kaiser -

I am in the same situation. I had considered doing a sleeve revision to give me the restriction again. -
I had revision from the band to bypass 4 weeks ago and it went great but I have only lost about 12lbs and I just think that I should have lost more I only eating about 400 to 500 calories a day so what is going on

Exercise and diet no use for obese, claim researchers
TijuanaPlication replied to TijuanaPlication's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
The MOST effective WLS is the Duodenal Switch. I've seen stats on excessive weight lost (EWL) with the VSG as being 70% and with the DS as 80%. You do have to be more diligent with taking enough vitamins and protein with the DS and that surgery does carry more risk than the VSG. The good thing about VSG is that you could subsequently revise to the DS if necessary (although you're likely to be a slower loser if you choose the 2 stage route). -
Any August 2019 people out there?
BayougirlMrsS replied to big_ange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Back history..... I joined the site back in 2008-2009 i think. Back when it was called Lapbandtalk. Of course, it was for people that had the lapband done. Which i did back in 2009. SW 232, weight the day my band was removed 143 March 2017 due to a slip. This is a revision for me. I know most people say.... well 30lbs is nothing, but when your 5'2" it is. I have told no one except my husband about the sleeve. I didn't want to hear all the crap from all the people. I did what i thought was best. and because i had had a previous WLS and was cash pay.... sleeve it is. Band SW 232, LW 130... removal weight 143 (i stayed here for years) 2009-2017 Sleeved SW 173.5, CW 144.4 (as of today). Sx date Aug 28, 2019....... 10 weeks and two day PO. Chris -

August 26 revision from sleeve to bypass -
Hello world! I am a current lapbander in the process of getting a revision to the sleeve as of july 8th! I have been doing quite extensive research and i am quite curious if there is much of a difference in the restriction feeling between the band and sleeve? It seems what i have read, most virgin sleevers experience a "tightness in chest" feeling which lets them know their full (or over full) Anybody care to share what they have gathered the true difference between the two are? Wether it be from personal experience or personal opinion? As a lapbander, the tightness in chest is all too painful in my experience and was not exactly what i want to look forward to the 2nd time around. Any opinions or factual statements would be most of help! Thanks!

Sleeve surgery, approved, by, insurance,?
LAN2k replied to schatzie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you don't have a slip or an erosion, you have to start a "paper" trail of problems. I was told that the acid regurg. and inability to sleep lying down would require about 9 months of MD documented visits before insurance would "consider" paying for the band to be removed and revising to another surgery. This is horrible...I can't believe to what extent some of you have had to go to and through to finally get to a place where you can lose weight with securtiy. I'm literally choked up here. I am in LI, NY so far I've been told "no" to the Sleeve by the doctor(who considers the Sleeve "experimental" and doesn't do it), who would do the Lap Band surgery on me, (if I am approved...(35BMI with co morbidity factors...)Ins.- Medicare). His secretary told me that medicare will not approve the Sleeve. I do want weight loss surgery scared as I am because I have been around the try-to-lose-weight block so many times that I finally am willing to sacrifice part of my anatomy! I need help. I am feeling pressured due to insurance "approval" issues to take what I can get, either Lap Band or Gastric Bypass. I am not in a position to self-pay nor take out a loan. I am so frustrated. The more I read about being "banded" the more I want to get the sleeve...the more desperate I am becoming. Thanks all for such sincere posts, my heart goes out to you with wishes for victory in the restoration of your bodies to their perfect weight with incredible health and longevity. -
Band Removal Approved; BYPASS DENIED!
betrthnever replied to Bobbe Schu's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yeah Bobbe! Great to hear! The revision has been the best thing and so much easier then the band itself. -
Mimi - September 25th will be here before you know it. Funny how people are, they just don't understand that you can be doing something for just yourself. The Band, now that was just for me, and my TT also. I feel like it had to be just for me for it to be a success. I had to take all of the responsibility for it if it was just for me. The success or the failure, what ever it is. I cannot believe that tomorrow will be 4 weeks since my TT. I will try to take some new pictures in the morning, but will not be able to post them until later in the day. (cannot do that at work) I will let you know when I have them up. I am so proud of my progress and just love my new flat tummy. Each day is better as far as getting my strength back. I just listen to my body, and when I feel tired, I leave work and I get off my feet. I have been able to make it till around 3:30 pm so far. My boss was a little pissy yesterday when I told him I had to leave, but I told him that I was sure that my surgon would have no problem revising my work release and me taking off for another 3 weeks. He changed his toon. I am a good employee, but I am not a martyr. Take care all, Laura

Okay, I finally caught up on all the back posts. How wonderful to see everyone posting here. What I'm seeing is a lot of us settling into real life and trying to figure out how to incorporate the changes we made from having a band into what our daily lives hold. It is certainly a process and I am glad to have the support of you all during it. Crystal, if you truly think the band can't work with your stomach properly have you looked into other options like a gastric sleeve? I've read quite a bit about that on this site. I have had virtually no problems with my band, but if i ever did have complications I would seriously consider revising from band to sleeve. I think a sleeve would eliminate the being-too-tight thing. It's funny, but at first I wanted the band because it was reversible if needed. Now that I've lost so much weight, there's no way in the world I want this reversed! So a more permanent solution is a more realistic option. On running. It surprises me that it's something that I've gotten into. I hated running. Couldn't figure out why someone would do that on purpose unless a large animal was chasing them. But as I started walking I felt empowered. So eventually I tried running a few steps. It freed me from this pre-conceived notion that I couldn't run and was too weak to ever do so. I was strong enough to do that little bit and strong enough to add to it day by day. I used the couch to 5K and thought it was pretty challenging. I didn't know any couch potatoes that could do the amount of walking/running that it prescribes to begin with. But eventually I got there and was able to progress a bit at a time. Like Angie said, I don't know if you'd really call what I do running, it's more what most people would consider jogging, but I call it running because to me that's what I'm doing. I'm not sprinting, but I'm running at a pace that I can sustain for 2 miles or more. Sometimes, though, my workouts fizzle out. I went to the gym yesterday, having had a great run on Monday, and just couldn't do it. I ran for about 5 minutes and just didn't have the oomph to keep going. My goal is 45 minutes of exercise, so walking counted. I got tired of doing the walking eventually and moved to the stationary bike for the last 13 minutes. Today we are going to walk to the library for our exercise. I think it's about a mile away. We'll see how long it takes with the kids in tow. There's a mom and toddler group, followed by a mom's group with free babysitting. I'm looking forward to it. I hope you all have a fabulous day! -

Dang tap! That's probably the longest post Ive seen in awhile! Awesome!! So nice to see you're back, i've missed ya! Been quiet since you were gone. :frown: Girl the 5 lbs. is actually not bad. I can do that in one single "bad" weekend. You'll lose it quick, so mount up! We're here to see you through. As for me, nothing much has changed. I have been looking deeper into the revision, but I'm thinking that's going to be a ways down the road. Even if I get to goal with my band years from now, I know I can never go back to just nothing. I can gain way too easily and I really don't want to be right back where I left off or worse. I cancelled my unfill appt and instead made an appointment to see my surgeons nutritionist. Maybe I just need to be lead back into the right direction? We'll see how that goes. I know I am having issues though because I woke up almost all night the other night with my coughing fits. Some last night too. :-( I'm going to try not eating too late and see how that holds. Shiny, at least you're doing you're workouts! I know it must be really very frustrating though, battling the sweet demon. So sad!! I wish I could just slay him once and for all and he is never able to return. He's like Jason from Friday the 13th!! Just when you think you've conquered him... well... you know how it goes. I'm on part 299 right now! Ezma, I wish I had some good advice for you with your son. But, you're a great Mom and I'm sure you'll get it right. I never had a lot of boyfriends growing up and held down my virtuosity for a bit longer than other girls my age and for the time it was in. Now a days it would seem like I was an old woman! lol What I remember though is that my Mom would always be open with the discussion and always tried to tell me the things boys would do to try to convince me. She would also tell me that I'm special and I should wait for someone that I loved - and when the time came, just to be open with her about it. It wasn't too weird ( I mean it was a little but I'm glad she did it).. anyway what I'm saying is, just try talking with him a little bit. My Mom didn't mind talking to my brothers either. It can't hurt and even if he doesn't receive it well, at least you know you did what you could. Ok well, hope everyone's doing good for a Monday. I'm slammed at work and I've had this spreadsheet due forever. I'll check in again soon! :wink3:
