Hello everyone. I had my VSG surgery on November 15, 2021 and I feel like I am at a stall and I'm looking for a gym buddy in my area San Antonio, TX. I feel awkward going to the gym on my own. I have no idea where to start and would appreciate having someone who knows what I am going through. I'd love to push you on with your weight loss goals and hopefully be able to push myself also in this weight loss journey. I see the before and after pictures of many of you and you all look so GREAT! I am ready to work on myself.

I had a follow up on Wednesday and the surgeon emphasized how important weight loss was in the first year. I am losing slow but I have been sticking to consistency and working out. While I'm not seeing huge numbers on the scale I feel pretty great in my clothes and I'm even moving faster when I take my walks which is weird since before it would take me like 45 minutes to walk 2 miles and now I'm crushing 2 in 34 minutes. Keep going!

my stalls seemed to be more frequent and lasted longer the farther out I got from surgery. After the first year, there were MANY times I thought "well, this is it", and then the weight loss would start up again. It finally stopped at 20 months out.

How exciting!!! It's finally here! I love your comment about "it's all about self-love", because you are so right! It took me a while to get there mentally. Don't be too hard on yourself, because a loss of 26 lbs is fantastic! I lost 3 lbs during my waiting period. I did not have to do a full-blown pre-op diet. Just the week before my surgery, I had to cut out all carbonated and caffeinated drinks, sweets, etc. and amp up on complex carbs instead. I was told it helped with the nausea experienced from the surgery, and I can attest that it did! So I was happy about that. Keep your eye on the big prize, and take it one day at a time. You have 11 days to go......it will be here before you know it. I'm 2 weeks post-surgery and I've lost 22 lbs. I had the sleeve. I can tell you, I have very little appetite. I don't feel hungry at all. I have to remind myself to eat my 3 meals a day to make sure I meet my protein requirements. It's crazy. The only thing I crave is COFFEE......isn't it crazy? It's not even food....it's a good robust coffee with the Funfetti-flavored creamer.....sigh.... Keep us updated! Good Luck! ♥

I’m glad you’re here. I used to know many athletes in CO who had MS. I have found the weight loss has helped me tremendously with mobility (arthritis).

Hi, Not sure which procedure you got done- I had the sleeve one, and I can tell you, 2 weeks post-op, I'm still not hungry. During Phase 1, I made sure to sip sip sip all day. What helped me a lot was diluted apple juice. I would definitely not recommend drinking with a straw and also drinking while eating. Poor thing. I hope you feel better soon. Congrats on the 14.3 lbs loss! That's awesome! Take it one day a time, and sip sip sip ♥ Good Luck!

Did your comorbidities go away after surgery?

I had NASH (fatty liver disease), newly diagnosed high blood pressure and I've had migraines since I was 10. I'm 50. Everything went away except the migraines, but I'm also going through menopause I think and they have increased. [emoji2370] The thing is, anyone can have these conditions, so I do take issue with doctors acting like weight loss will cure everything. I knew it was the only way to improve my fatty liver, and it did, so I'm happy about that, but I wish doctors would let people know that there is no guarantee it will make all thr comorbidities go away. I am right there with you. I have been at a steady 2lb loss a week, and just in the last 2 weeks its come to a screeching halt. Still getting my protein, fluids, and movement everyday, so I just have to chalk it up to part of the process. From what I've read, stalls can last a few weeks to a few months, just depending on the person. I'm trying really hard to not focus on the scale and just appreciate how far I've come and how much better I feel now vs. 5 months ago.

I'm sorry for your loss! I only have a one bedroom apartment, and I do walk a lot around my apartment every day (multiple times an hour!) but it doesn't amount to much. I agree, treadmill is much harder on the joints than "natural" walking. I have considered doing some step works (I have a step from exercise years ago) and I really SHOULD swim, but there's so much set up/break down time for swimming!

I have heard people who have had stalls last for up to six weeks on here and then the loss started again. I was worried that I was going into maintenance too but I am a little closer to “normal” BMI and I worry that my body is just happier at the higher end of that normal range. Honestly I will be thrilled if I get to my goal of normal BMI. I actually gained four pounds now (my grandma was in hospice and just passed away Monday so I was definitely eating more than I should) and I have a post op appointment today so I get to go In and face the NP knowing I haven’t lost much since my last visit 😢. This may sound crazy Or silly but can you clear a path to walk from one end of your house to the other? I have a tiny house and am surprised I haven’t worn out the wood laminate but I walk back and forth like this daily. I do it because the treadmill is hard on my knees and just walking in my house doesn’t hurt them.

I lost 50 lbs before surgery and have lost 46 since surgery (4.5 months ago). I KNOW from everything I've read here, in my support groups, and in the information provided to me by my bariatric center that stalls are normal and inevitable. BUT THEY STILL SUCK DONKEY BALLS! I was losing about 9 lbs a month (rolling average) for the first 4 months, but since month 4, it's been just up and down the same two pounds. I'm TRYING to focus on the fact that I've gone from a 2x-3x to a large. I'm TRYING to focus on the fact that I can walk so much more quickly now. But I am so scared the weight loss has stopped. I am trying to do exercises, but I hurt my arm and my doc told me to rest it for a while. I was then doing more treadmill, but my hip started to hurt like it did when I did treadmill every day before surgery. My eating is decent but not perfect (I eat out a lot due to traveling for work, so I know my meals aren't low fat). I'm drinking so much I have to pee every hour. How long do stalls last and how do you know if you're in a stall or if your weight loss has STOPPED? (sorry for the CAPS 🤪)

He is basically skin and bones and a giant but dysfunctional brain. We're still very close. The word in Spanish is "amigovios", if you speak Spanish. If not, it's a cross between "amigos" (friends) and "novios" (boyfriend/girlfriend). He's actually really supportive of my weight loss efforts, despite liking larger women and not understanding weight issues at all. He's 5'10" and weighs 135lb soaking wet and holding a cheese stick (that is literally how he weighed himself when he was here last).

At my first one (which was several months into my weight loss journey but a few months before surgery) I was over 55%. My current body fat per my home scale is 48.7% (by my home scale in May it was 57%). I don't know about these pictures. My semi-ex boyfriend has a 6% body fat and he just looks really scrawny, no muscles at all. He is strong, but there's no six pack or anything. Certainly no pectoral definition (or arm definition for that matter).

Today is first day I didn’t have a loss on the scale. Actually put 1/2 lb on 252!!!! As I’m reading this, I’m getting ready to go walk at gym. I had my 11.5 oz fairlife chocolate protein shake for breakfast. Water while walking. 1 cup of tomatoe vegetable(strained of course) soup for lunch . More water, Okios pro yogurt for dinner. Hot tea and jello cup for dessert. I still have 4 week before I head back to work. Loving the process so far, looking forward to phase 3 next week with purée veggies and chopped meat!! -
Good on you for taking some steps towards a healthier life, and congrats on the weight loss so far! Talk to your neurologist maybe about some exercises that are tailored to your abilities or ask to work with a physical therapist.

Hello all! I definitely am protecting the pouch! The most strenuous thing I’ve had is 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt! :) I broke my stall today! I’m now 244.6 with a 2 pound weight loss!! I’m so happy! Definitely thinking the fact that I hit my liquid goal yesterday had to do with the loss. Staying hydrated is super important! My meals yesterday… 20 oz coffee Protein Drink (fairlife coffee flavor with Starbucks blonde cold brew black coffee) 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt About 4 oz of a creamy puréed chicken bacon potato Soup. And lots of water! Today I’ll be taking my Christmas tree down. Well- everything but the actual tree due to the weight restriction. Then I’ll go walk at the gym. Only today and tomorrow left of my medical leave. Back to work on Saturday night. :) -
My feeling is for the first few months follow your surgeon's and dietician's guidelines. From there once you've transitoned to solid foods you can work what works for you to lose weight (I wish we could talk about fat instead of weight) in a healthy way. In saying that, there are is a varitey advice from surgeons and dieticians...but none that recommends eating what you like three days out...please anyone who is new to this site or weight loss surgery...please disregard the approach of eating what you like three days out! There are medical reasons for not doing this. Your stomach healing is at risk, and just because one person didn't experience complications from eating 'what they liked' doesn't mean you won' t.

Hello Danna, Welcome to this wonderful site and all the great advice in it. Well done on the weight loss so far.. My anxiety has improved at every pound I have lost and it feels amazing. I went away for a week by the sea with friends last week and truly never once felt anxious or that everyone was watching me. Good luck on your journey

Wow! I knew that they blocked visitors but missed that Allina cancelled all weight loss surgeries. I went through the Allina weight management program a couple years ago but switched to Park Nicollet a year ago. -
That's not odd - pretty much what I've experienced! Eating less calories isn't the answer and I imagine that will just create more problems. Your body needs those calories. Stalls are your body's time-out to deal with the trauma of the surgery and the sudden prolonged severe drop in caloric intake. If anything, upping the calories and exercise has been the best way I've found to break the stalls. I'm averaging about a kilogram of weight loss a week, which is what I was losing when I was doing calorie counting and exercise the last time I made a decent effort of losing the analogue way - before I finally accepted I needed surgical help. So I've not experienced the "weight melting off" or "honeymoon period" so many others talk about on here. And while it can get you down, I look at the long term bright side. Slower steadier weight loss is healthy, the number is still going down, and hopefully this means our skin has a better chance of springing back, and our hair loss will be minimal. Fingers crossed!

I would say this surgeon seems more concerned with results on the scale than the health of the patients. We eat little enough already in the first few months following WLS, but one small meal day is a disaster in the making, it isn't sustainable and setting patients up for failure. They will battle fatigue, hunger, muscle wastage, greater hair loss, vitamin and mineral deficiency (if not supplementing to the nth degree) etc etc -

I had my op October 2021, Doing great, the weight loss is coming off. 5 and a half stone so far, I feel so much better and able to move more, I am happier thats for sure! However I do have a question......Just recently when I eat, straight after I get all hot, sweaty and shaky and have palpitations almost like a diabetic Hypo(low blood sugar) . However I checked my blood sugar, and it is normal. Am I eating too fast? I have no other symptoms. This is just weird!!! Love & Light

Another day without a weight loss- I’m kinda stuck at 246.6. Still better than the starting weight I was at. Todays win is that my favorite pair of lounge pants aren’t so tight. :) Yesterday I definitely didn’t hit my liquid goals. So I’m gonna focus on that today. Currently I’m enjoying a coffee with protein drink. Out of the 20 oz I have about 5 oz left to drink. Only about 44 oz left for the day. I have my 38 oz water bottle with me as well. So I’ll be working on drinking that as well today. The remainder will probably be another shake so I’m getting my protein in. I also have a dentist appointment for a cleaning and I can not wait! Let me tell you- not being able to chew and being on a liquid only diet for almost 4 weeks has made my teeth feel gross no matter how many times a day I’m brushing/ flossing and using mouth wash. ICK. Last night I went out with friends. We walked around a mall, then went and saw a movie. I found it easier than I expected to be with them as they had movie theater snacks. I was very happy with my water- I also snuck a protein shake in if I felt like I needed something more. :) I know I’m supposed to be working on establishing 3 meals a day but it’s really challenging with such a limited variety. It’s totally psychological for me due to my normal schedule. I currently work overnights but have switched my sleep schedule to more of a normal one while being home on leave. So everything is kinda goofy and it’s gonna stay that way for a little bit. I just found out yesterday I have about two more weeks of traditional overnights then I’m moving to a semi overnight schedule. I’m ecstatic to be moving to a different schedule that’s a little more normal. :)
