  1. I like to run first thing in the morning....as a matter of fact it is 5am here now and I'm getting ready to leave.... I like to run an empty stomach....I will take some liquid Protein (15gm) before a run just for energy...along with my Vitamins, Omega 3's, etc.,.....but no food because I want to burn fat...not the food I just ate. Soon I will need to eat before I run, because I don't have much, if any, fat left to burn....but the protein seems to help tremendously and I do not like feeling like I just ate when I work out.... I drink 32oz of Water before during and after running. I will have a high protein smoothie after my workout....but this is also my Breakfast, not just a recovery. As far as abdominal pain....it has nothing to do with being banded.....but everything to do with your body getting extremely "toned" like no other exercise can possibly do.... I have not lost any significant weight in about a year now.....BUT I have dropped 2 clothing sizes just the same, and ready to go to a third drop....that will tell you something about running! I had someone ask me, right out of the blue, if I was a runner.....I said how can you tell? They said I have the legs of a runner and walk (stride) like I run a lot... That was the best NSV I have received in a long time....and never saw that one coming.... (did I mention I'm 61 years old?)
  2. I bought two pairs of size 14 jeans today!!! I'm so excited. I cannot remember the last time I could wear a 14!! :-) yay!!

    Vacation NSVs

I am only 36 pounds lost and I had several NSVs on vacation. First the seat belt on the plane was very loose and not tight like normal. Second, I rode on roller coasters for the first time in years because I wasn't scared I wouldn't fit. And third, I saw pics of me in a bathing suit and didnt cringe;) Ready for the next 36!!!!!!

  8. I am elated and in awe that I am at 390, while I was heavier it seemed impossible to get below 400, but I am grateful I'm below 400. My next goal is below 300, then 200, then I want to stop somewhere between 150 and 169lbs. Any hoo, on to the NSV: 1. My Christmas present was new clothes because all of my 7x, 6x, 5x shirts and 42 and 44 pants are way too big, I can now fit a 22/24 sweater comfortably and 26 jeans, before I couldn't get one leg into the avenue's largest pair of jeans a 30/32 2. I actually ran up the flight of stairs into my apartment and didn't feel like my heart was going to explode LOL 3. I jogged through the parking lot with my daughters, (because of the cold) to the store entrance and one of my daughters said, "Mommy you can run now? Wow!! Before I would slowly lumber through the parking lot and feel like passing out, and one day my daughter 5 at the time told my husband, I don't want to walk with mommy, she walks too slow, I wanted to cry. Now I can keep up and most times I'm a few feet ahead and waiting on everyone else. 4. All of the heels in my closet are now too big! I wanted to start wearing them but now they flop off my feet when I walk in them. 5. My next goal also is the notorious booth  It's been a long time and I want to see if I can fit without turning sideways. 6. Turnstiles are no longer scary. 7. I can do a few laps at the mall without having to find a bench to sit on or a motorized cart, same for the grocery store.
  9. Definitely write down your nsv's I remember clearly feeling how you're feeling...there are stages to this new journey we are on and you are adjusting. Think positive...it will happen...keep getting support, you need to have that, we all do. I really look forward to hearing from you more as I know 6 months from now you will be helping others with the same feelings and struggles you are having now... And yes consider what works for you, honestly, as long as your choosing healthy choices, you will succeed!! Look forward to being suprised because you are going to lose the weight and your new life awaits!! One day at a time
  10. I too find myself comparing myself to others on the boards especially. I also have been in the 380's probably at least ten times over the past 3 years. It would usually take me 2 months instead if the 2 weeks it took this time. I think I have a fear that my body won't let me go below 380. I think that when I get into the 370's it will be more real that this is really working. I will definitely keep my psych & nut appts. I have had victories. I am losing weight differently this time. The ONE pair of jeans that I own are now too big at the waist. Maybe I need to start writing down my NSV so I can look at them when I am feeling down.

Finally Stopped Lying to the DMV

I lied to the DMV for so many years, by over 50 lbs. No one ever said a word. But, my favorite NSV is being special screened after losing all my weight. TSA did not think it was me. Ah, the joys the the VSG. I love my sleeve and have no regrets. Congrats!

    Tell me your recent NSV!

You are all awesome! I can't wait to be right there with you -- but I have one of "those" questions --- what is NSV?
  14. *Having NO slacks left to wear to work (all too big!) *Crossing my legs. Comfortably..without going numb *Fitting into an XL sports tank (formerly wore a 22/24 top) *I made so many new holes in my belts, I had to get rid of them altogether! There are more NSVs, and I cherish each one.

  16. So it has been a year. To the day. Wow! Just…wow. Progress has been steady. Had a slip up but I am back on track. I think there for a little while I felt bullet proof, you know? Nine months out and I was doing well. I have an additional metabolism issue (genetic) that I knew I would not be the high end loser, so I was comfortable with my loss. I had a foot injury, couldn’t run for a long time, couldn’t do as much of what I normally do as often…and let some bad habits creep in as I dealt with inactivity (inactivity = boredom for me). Holidays were approaching and I was really feeling the loss of my Mom (My Mom passed away a week after my surgery, unexpectedly). So I slipped. Then I caught myself and got right back up again. My “last diet” began in January of 2011…I lost some after months of trying, kept it off a little, and about the same time it began to creep back on I was diagnosed with a tumor in my stomach lining – call it serendipity or what you will…I had to have a lot of my tummy removed anyway, I had lost weight I did not want to put back on, and long story short: “last diet” 1/2011, diagnosed w/tumor 10/2011, sleeved 1/4/2012. I was self-pay more than insurance covered anything, because the insurance argued I could get the tumor removed endoscopically, grrrr…but oh well and bills, bills, bills later (paid but disputing a balance w/ with my insurance) sleeved…and I would pay so much more, in hindsight. It has been a crazy journey, so many NSV, so much rediscovering myself….I am nowhere near done. Support from this group has been so important… I am back into everything I missed, trying new things, and there is something about this – doing this now – it is like I am discovering a whole new me. At 39 years old, I am coming “into my own” at the same time I am adapting to my new body…it blows my mind still… Size 14 for now…will maybe try for 10, but 12 would be great. At 5’10” and built like a linebacker, rather than a ballerina it’s a good size for me. Wish me perseverance, and strength - and the same to you all… God Bless. Namaste. Always.

    Tell me your recent NSV!

The lady in wawa didnt recognize me, and asked my son if i was his older sister! I had not been there in a few months ans normally i talk it up with the lady who rings us up....that was a def NSV. Im hoping i have the pants victory soon :-)
  18. Today I wore pants that I haven't worn in YEARS (yes, I save everything). I tried them on a few weeks ago and they were a little tight...so I put them back in the closet thinking ok, I'll try them in a couple weeks. Well today I put them on and they were big...almost sloppy...I was amazed!! I wore them to work but they probably won't be worn again. Squeal!!

    Two Weeks Post Op today!

Sometimes I still wake up and can’t BELIEVE I went and got me some weight loss surgery. I actually did it. This year is gonna BANG, BABY! Highest Weight EVAH- 273 Day of Surgery - 250 Week 1 Weight - 241.2 Week 2 Weight - 239.2 Total Loss - 10.8lbs (-2lbs) I promised myself that I would never be disappointed about a loss, so I refuse to be disappointed. I DID expect more but my body has been playing bald headed games with constipation and water retention, in addition to the adjustment from clear liquids to FULL liquids and eating soups and such. I’m happy to see a loss from last week. I DID see as low as 238.4 this week but then I went back up to 240! ACK! Enter Colace and lots of water to save the day. I expect to see 238 again soon. This is a BIG reason why I weigh everyday. I know, I know, it drives everyone else crazy. What drives ME crazy is to get on the scale after a week and seeing an increase and not knowing WHY. What to correct, what to do. If I get on in the morning and I’m up, I review the day before. Too much salt? Too much nibbling? Not enough of water? It gives me the power of correcting right then and there and then I can watch the numbers go back down. Knowing I am up but not being able to rule out a food or a behavior is useless to me. NSV’s this week- Not too many, it’s still early on in my journey and the weight isn’t ‘falling off’ like it has for others. NOT COMPLAINING cause it is still coming off! I can’t wear any of my size 20 or 22 jeans. I guess that is good. My knees don’t ache like they used to… I can bound up the stairs at my house now. Used to take me a full minute to go up or down 12 steps. I’m sure there are lots of things but sometimes it’s like… I’m doing something and I think…hey! I can DO THIS NOW! Also, I have a jacket that I bought last fall- a berry red trench from Target in XL. The arms on it were SO TIGHT I rarely wore it because I always felt like I was choking. I am no longer choking! \o/ I can’t button it yet….cause I’m busty… but that’ll be another milestone. Week was good, rather uneventful and I suppose that’s how it’ll go. Some will be better than others. I feel like I am still adjusting to The Sleeved Life. I also feel like I need to really get to WORK adding in exercise. I’ve been doing one mile walks about every other day and as my energy allows, I’ve got to start adding in more. This weight isn’t going to just fall off, unfortunately.

    Diabetes recheck with my PCP

SaraLaughs Congratulations bud!!!! the health issues/improvements, are why we have the WLS!!!! you will probably have other health benefits too!! after 20 years, i was taken off my insulin/meds, four weeks PO!!! diabetes meds gone - yes this is a great NSV
  22. I'm only one week out (today) and SHE TOOK ME OFF ALL MY DIABETES MEDS!!! This is the best NSV I have ever had. I can't even tell you how thrilled I am. She's not yet ready to say I don't have diabetes, but she said since I will be losing weight, when I come back for my next recheck in three months, she wouldn't be surprised if we could start saying that I have a history of diabetes, rather than saying I have type II diabetes! I told her, even if I never lost another pound, this surgery was worth it, just for this!

    My very first NSV :)

Awesome NSV. I love clothes shopping now.
  24. Today was my first visit since my surgery last week. Dr says everything is progressing great. I was shocked cuz I actually got to chew today even if it was purée. My husband works at a long term hospital so he brought me home some purée chicken, turkey, green Beans and broccoli(that I'm not allowed to have). Then another week of soft foods then 2 weeks from now I'll be on my lifestyle meal plan. I was surprised that I was going to go thur the meal plans so quickly. I'm so excited...NSV!!!! Oh and I've lost 9 lbs to boot since surgery!!!! Lovin' 2013!!!!
  25. I just uploaded my first video! This was a huge NSV, as I hate having my photo taken or appearing on film. It wasn't as bad as I expected, but I think I'll have to be better prepared next time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27ghLvICixo&feature=youtube_gdata
