How long out of you or for Sleevers?

Thanks for all your input. I have enough time to take off more than the 10 days, but it’s just hard because I enjoy the judge that I work with and if someone else fills in, it’s going to be a disaster, which will reflect on her. But maybe I should take extra time if only to show my supervisor the workload is too much lol. Since being back at work full-time, they didn’t give us any time to deal with the four months worth of backlog, and took away our supporting help so we are just swamped and buried all the time and it’s very stressful

    ❤My Revision Story❤

🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 1(+) year post op check in: I was revised from VSG to RNY on July 15, 2019. My weight at the time of that surgery was 157 lbs. A finally was able to complete my 1 yr follow up visit with my team today. My current weight is 160 (really 159 but who cares 😂) When my Surgeon brought up my weight got a little nervous. I immediately panicked a little hoping he was not disappointed that I gained a few lbs. In fact, he was ecstatic. He reminded me that he did not want me to lose weight from the surgery, I was at my goal weight already and he purposefully made my bypass a length that would keep me relatively stable (sometimes I forget what the goal was while scale gazing) When I was in the 140s he wanted me to carefully watch out for too much loss. I fixed that problem 😂 Saying this to remind anyone who maybe going for a revision for further weight loss purposes to confirm the length of the bypass your Surgeon will perform. My bypass is 130, and my Surgeon usually starts Virgin bypass surgeries at 150 and I think that a relatively standard starting length. All issues that existed with the VSG have been resolved and I haven't taken GERD meds in a year, HalleluYah ! Super happy with that outcome. Everything my Surgeon set out to correct was accomplished. Good Luck everyone considering revisions ❤

60 years young and having surgery

I'm 65 and just had it done. I was supposed to have it done 10 years ago but two weeks before surgery, while getting all my doctors appointments taken care of, they found breast cancer so had to deal with that. Then I moved and needed a pacemaker, But I feel great. I didn't have one side effect or problem from the surgery or after. I've asked myself if they actually did anything, then I see the incisions. I've waited so long for this that I'm going to do everything I can to be successful and be the active person I am supposed to be.

    COVID and Gym-ing

So, I haven't really been at the gym since September 2019. I herniated a disc in my back and by the time that felt better I had my TT and arm lift. Once that healed, I made it back in a few times and COVID occurred. I am not an at-home exerciser so the gym was my thing. My gym reopened in May (?) but the locker rooms are closed and they are at reduced capacity, so I requested my account stay on hold. Now I've recently had my butt and leg lift and implants, so I can't exercise until September 1-ish anyways. I am really itching to get back. My TT seems all flabby and I want to tone my new booty and get back to spin. Are you guys back in the gym and do you feel your gym is taking good precautions? I just don't see how everything can be properly sanitized. =/ Masks weren't mandatory until we had a spike about 2 weeks ago and now they are, so I won't go back if a mask is required because I panic with them on and would just feel uncomfortable all sweaty in one.
  6. Everyone is different, but 10 days seems a little brief. At 10 days will you still be on a liquid diet? I was able to take almost 6 weeks off due to my work schedule. Also, my work is very active and requires me to be on my feet each day and I typically put in 10,000 steps during an 8 hour shift. I think 4 weeks would have been the earliest I could have returned. Again, everyone is different so speak with your doctor. Best of luck!
  7. I am wondering what the average amount of time that people took off from work for recuperation following sleeve surgery. I am having the surgery on a Thursday, and was hoping to go back to work on the Monday 10 days following. Is that unrealistic?? I work at a job where I’m sitting all day, but it’s very busy and stressful.  The title was supposed to say “how long out of work.” I am new to this site and I can’t figure out how to edit the subject line.

    July surgery progress report anyone?

Surgery was on 7/7, so I just hit the 4 week mark. HW - 341 SW - 263.8 CW 238.4 Today was also the milestone of hitting 100 pounds lost. As far as my condition goes, the past 7-10 days have found me doing worse than I was previously. I've begun to have periodic dizzy spells that most commonly happen when I stand up, but also when I exert myself. As such, my exercise has not really been happening between the ongoing heat in the past week or so and this dizziness. Was worried I would see lower weight loss this week as a result, but am pleasantly surprised that I came up just shy of 5lbs. The other issue is constipation. Right now, I'm having bowel movements every 3-4 days. What's worse is that when I have them, it's causing hemorrhoids that leave me in excruciating pain for the entire day afterwards. My doctor prescribed some Colace, but near as I can tell, it isn't helping. I've also had nothing but terrible sleep the last couple of weeks, though this can partially be blamed on the fact that the two new CPAP masks that my provider will let me use are just terrible. They don't cover the mask that I prefer. It sucks. I'm also STILL on just full liquids because that's what my doctor wants me on for as long as possible in order to maximize weight loss and avoid the slow down. This has been pretty damn awful, but I'm getting through it. Doctor wants me to do it for 8 weeks. I'm telling him at my follow-up with his next Monday that I'm done and ready to move on. He's getting 5 weeks from me. Otherwise, I'm doing well. All but 1 incision is fully healed and that one is getting close. Just looking forward to being able to start transitioning into other food phases and start the slow path back to the new normal.
  10. Hi all! I’m new here and just wanna share. I had VSG Aug 3,2017 I have PCOS which is like a cockblocker I’ll tell you now! I’ve gained about 30lbs since but am now on phentermine and have lost about 10-12 lbs. but it’s such a struggle . My highest weight was 260 and my lowest was 197. I’m currently 216 but I like 200 on myself. Just need encouragement because I feel I’m slipping away again!

    Worried about never reaching goal.

It is possible & there are quite a lot of us on this forum who have and yes, some don’t for myriad of reasons. I’m 5’3 with a smaller frame & I exceeded my goal. My BMI is about 19 at the moment. But it’s not always about the number on the scale or your BMI. @Recidivist is correct. The ultimate goal should be about being healthy. You need to find the weight you can maintain while being able to live your life happily (balancing diet, exercise, family, relationships, etc.) & healthily. Good luck with your surgery.

So pretty. And nothing wrong with comfort dressing in these times. Recently saw a guy in his 30s at my local supermarket wearing navy pyjamas, a matching robe & slippers carrying a bottle of milk & a couple of other essentials. It was 10:30am. Thought that was taking relaxed, casual dressing a bit far.

    Numbness

Had my blood test last week to see if my B12 was good and it is, so now I'm back to square one. I can't stop losing weight and I'm 10 lbs below what my goal weight was. Can't help but think that if my taste buds were normal I might actually eat the food I crave. Now my Dr wants to stretch my tummy pouch so I can eat more. That is scary!
  14. Hi 🧡 I didn’t read the other replies but I had gastric bypass surgery April 29th 2019. I started out 5’ 208+ lbs and in under a year I lost 106lbs. I do not regret that decision at all. I stick to mainly a low carb way of eating And keep daily log of my meals, protein and calories BUT I do have fruit now no dumping and I have had a little wine here and there no dumping I’ve also had a margarita (whatever option had the least sugar) and I have had Prosecco which usually carbonated is a no no but I do have energy drinks sometimes too, I let the bubbly go out a bit. I didn’t have these until I was close to goal, well I admit I did cheat with the margarita a little early but otherwise I kept to my strict way of eating and slowly added things at goal. well I’m rambling. You Feel it out as you go through the steps when you have surgery. But You won’t regret gastric bypass surgery. I didn’t and would do it again even knowing how hard it was for me with my lifelong chronic illness and disability.
  15. I am almost 3 weeks post surgery - transitioning from a 12 year old lapband to gastric bypass. I lost 200 lbs on lapband and gained 120 of it back over two pregnancies. I am in shock of how ill-prepared I was for this transition. The lapband came so easily to me. I lost weight quickly, followed all the rules, etc. This time around, I am struggling to eat, sleep, take my vitamins, etc. I am severely depressed (Covid-19 doesn't help this), physically uncomfortable, and I feel hopeless. With that said, I've lost over 25 lbs in 2 weeks, I'm not having nearly as many actual eating problems as other people who had this surgery, and I know I'll get through this. I do not regret the decision at this time.
  16. Not really, besides some 10 minute walks.

Help I cheated on preop diet.

If you put 10 WL surgeons in a room..... i would venture to say.... All 10 would have something different they require of their patients. With the band (2009) i was required to the the 1 week of full liquids and 1 week of clear liquids.... the PO i had to do it in reverse... 1 week of clear (so two week total), 1 week full, 1 week puree, 1 week soft to regular. Sleeve (8/28/2019) I only had to do one week clear post op..... and then the same as above PO. I would say do the diet your dr. gave too you. Some people choose to go start before the date give and i still don't know why. This was soooooo hard. But like everything...This to shall pass. It was hard.... but so worth it.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Hello everyone, I had my VSG on July 7th. First week I dropped about 10 lbs which was great. The past 3 weeks I have lost 3 lbs. Do you guys know the reason for this long stall? And how can I break it? I’m getting really frustrated

    Worried about never reaching goal.

yes -- there are people your height who have done it. Regardless of height, though, the average weight loss is around 70% of excess weight. However, that is an average - and with any average, there are people who fall on either side of that. There will be those who lose less - and those who lose more - even some who'll lose 100% of their excess weight. My surgeon said only about 10-15% of his patients make it to a normal BMI, and research appears to back that up, but people do it - you'll find examples of that right here on BP. It'll take a lot of work and commitment, but it's not impossible.

  22. I gained 20 lbs after hitting my lowest point (138). I really needed to gain the first 10 lbs of it - I'd gotten too thin. But I've been struggling to lose the last 10 because I DIDN'T need or want that part of it (have managed to lose like 3 of it -- since March! It's tough...) anyway, I still track my food intake, but I've been doing that since my surgery in 2015 (actually, even BEFORE surgery). I've made a serious effort to stay within my maintenance calorie range, which for me is 1500-1700 per day - and I'm trying to stay at the low end of that (1500). I also really increased my exercise. My primary exercise these days is biking, which I usually do for 60-90 minutes a day, five or six days a week. It's working, but it's S-L-O-W. I know if I lowered my calories even more, to like 1200, the weight would come off faster - but I'm evidently not ready or willing to do that yet or I'd already be doing it. BUT....I'm sure it would work. at this point I just count calories - and I've been doing that since I was about a year out from surgery. I can eat anything as long as it fits into my daily calorie limit. I know that doesn't work for everyone, though. I know several people who are trying to lose regain doing Keto, or Weight Watchers, or Intermittent Fasting. And many just go back to what they were doing the first year post-surgery (not all the way back to protein shakes and purees, but back to protein first, then non-starchy vegetables - and then maybe an occasional serving of fruit or whole-grain carb) it basically comes down to what works for you and what you think you'll be able to sustain long term. Losing regain is hard and it's slow, but it's do-able
  23. I also had the lap band 10 years ago and loved it. I lost over 100 pounds and life was good until the gastric reflux started. It got so bad I was aspirating stomach acid into my lungs and I had to sleep in a chair. They removed all of the fluid from the band and the reflux went away and then I started on the track to get a revision to a sleeve. It seemed to me that I shouldn't have had to gone through the whole program for approval again but I did. I'm now waiting to get my surgery date finally after 6 months, which was probably a little longer because of Covid. Unfortunately having the band deflated and my gym closing (I was working out like crazy and now I've just stopped) I've gained a ton back. I'm so frustrated. Hoping to get the sleeve in 4-6 weeks, fingers crossed.

    Not losing weight

hey there-I had mine on 7/14 as well-you've lost 10 lbs! I have lost 8.....let's be patient because I think this is a bizarre experience that really does require a whole lot of following the rules-I feel like its my fault because i didnt pay close enough attention to how much and what I can take in-a friend of mine who also had this surgery years ago tells me this is normal-also I feel like i try harder everyday to be precise about my intake and exercise-hoping for another two lbs this week
  25. Like everyone here I have struggled with my weight my entire life. It didn't help that growing up my family fat shamed me. I became a closet eater early on, and brought that into adulthood with me. I have been on every diet out there, and as all of you here they worked for a while. I am now the heaviest I have ever been, even when I was pregnant. I am beating myself up every single day. In addition to the self esteem issues, the health issues of being overweight are a concern. I am so tired of the anxiety that I feel every time I go to the Doctor and I know I have to get on the scale. From January to March of 2020 I lost 15 pounds, I felt amazing, I was on a roll. Then Covid-19 happened, and all of a sudden I am working from home. My entire routine has changed and I am still having a difficult time finding the "right" routine. Needless to say I have gained back the 15 pounds that I lost and more. That was the moment I decided to explore bypass surgery. I made an appointment and did my research before my first appointment. I decided on gastric sleeve because I feel that is the best option for me. I have my nutritionist consult on 7 August. At the Doctor appointment, the nurse told me to start drinking 1 protein shake a day for breakfast, which is not an issue since I've been drinking protein shakes forever. My confusion comes in for the rest of the day. My surgery is 6 months out. Do I begin the Pre-Surgery diet now? 350-400 calories per meal, 150 calorie snack etc? Or should I wait until my consult with the nutritionist? Also, the nurse told me I cannot gain any weight between now and my surgery. Any advice you can provide is appreciated. 😁
